Samsung epic to metro pcs - Epic 4G General

I need a lot of help. I went to this place and got my phone flashed but I guess they decided they would just stop after getting my epic flashed over with just talk and text. I want web and mms and I'm not even sure where to start to get it. I looked at a bunch of threads but it doesn't seem as though they apply. If anybody can help me out it would be greatly appreciated cause otherwise this phone is useless and I just paid a lot of money for it :/

I'm pretty sure metro nixed data for flashed phones when TMo bought them out a few weeks ago. There was a thread floating around here with some temp fixes, but none of them stuck.

Darn ... this phone should work with boost mobile right ? That's my only option isn't it ?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda app-developers app

Boost, virgin, cricket, some others maybe. There are a lot of guides on here for flashing to various carriers, check them out and see which one will give you the best service in your area, price, etc and go from there.

Not sure where the above info is from but.. I have a flashed Epic 4G and my girl has a Nexus S 4G both flashed to Metro PCS and we get 3G and 1x data on our phones.. The only thing we don't get is working MMS(texting pics).. Everything else works fine..
She is on stock JellyBean from the Sprint Update and I am running CM10 official.
Just wondering when Metro nixed data on flashed phones?
The merger with T mobile isn't 100% yet from what I have read as the good ole government was sticking their nose in for some issue or another.. Even if it is/was official they don't merge till 2013..
Hope this helps
** Reginadee what area are you in? If your in the greater Detroit area I could get the info of where I got our phones flashed and maybe they could help ya!

Thank you for trying but no i am in california. Did you do the flashing yourself? I'm trying to figure it out but qpst won't recognize my phone...

When it comes to flashing to alternative carriers, shinydude's word is bond.

It looks like the original poster in that thread got his 3g to start working after flashing a different rom or the one he first used.. I talked with the guy who flashed my phone and he said he still flashes phones daily to Metro PCS and 3G data still works fine for everyone its just the MMS issue he can't get right on some phones. Maybe it just hasn't hit Michigan yet. I do know this though I have 2 sprint phones flashed to Metro PCS and they both get 3G data and the speeds are decent if I am in a decent area of coverage. On the flipside I have thought of going a different route like Virgin Mobile just for the better coverage area around me. Good luck to whatever you find out there. Shinydudes got a lot of good info on flashing the Eic to Virgin Mobile though so give that a try.

Thanks for the recommendation to the OP guys, its not everyday I get some sort of recognition for the guide. that reminds me, I need to re-update the guide's links, they go bad if nobody is actively downloading from it from time to time.
MetroPCS's 3G is blocked in some cities, although I do know it tends to work in others, early 2010, I had my phone flashed to metro before I got deep into programming phones, it got to the point where I reprogrammed it on my own in a state that did not even have metro, and still got it working with a couple tricks up my sleeve, I do recommend my Virgin Mobile guide if Sprint is a good coverage in your area.
Edit: OP, I just noticed that your Epic was metro without 3g or 1x, not even mms? That's terrible!
I cannot guarantee 3g will work in your city, but to my knowledge, the same key for 1x was for 3g (unaware if Tmobile's merger affected it.) I have the mms fix, as well as be able to head you in the right direction to get 1x working and hopefully 3g alongside! What you're looking for is DFS for programming, and the Metro SPC calculator, its an easy password Metro invented unique to each user calculated with their own math formula when you enter your esn. There should still be apps on the market that'll spit that code out for you, just search for metro spc calc, or something along those lines, if you can't find it, I'll look into my files and post the calculator. Also, the mms fix is an outdated script, so I would manually replace files in the root directory of the phone to get it working, it doesn't seem to want to stick on some phones, but it works.

DFS is free programming software, with an optional paid version if you don't want to wait a few secs each time you launch the app, as the free version has a timer,
it's what you need in order to add the spc code from the calculator to your phone, unless you have cdma workshop, which isn't free.
For picture messaging (after you have 1x, and/or 3g working)
If you're running cyanogenmod, it's as simple as changing the apn-conf.xml, and your mms.apk.
using a file i have saved, although i need to hunt for it, i have it somewhere, i'll have it ready once you've done the above.

I am on CM10 official.. probably move to a nightly soon. I am very interested in getting MMS working. I get pictures all the time through text and its embarrassing telling the other party that my badass old phone with newer software than thiers won't send or receive pics.. lol.. I have tried playing with the apn stuff but its a lot different on CM10 for some reason.. I know if I flash stock GB on my phone MMS works.. Thanks in advance for any help here bro.. There have been many days I have read your stuff and think about going the Virgin Mobile route..

It must be done from programming software, although you're just going to be making very few edits, and a change of prl, unless it's already a metro 3g prl, which in that case you'd toggle a setting in the software to avoid it getting pushed via a non-3g prl. This is all theorhetical that 3g will work, as I do not know if metro has blocked 3g in your area, but it will grant you 1x, and then mms with the right settings.

Internet really slow on x

Hey I just flashed my droid x to cricket and the internet is really slow. On the top of phone it says 1x and little arrows under that. Isn't there supposed to be a 3g symbol there instead . Is it supposed to be like that. How can I make it faster. Any ideas. Also if I flash cm6 will I loose my full flash
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
looks like a poor signal issue to me does the phone work better in a diffrent area of town ?? or outside ??.
Its my understanding c6 is not for the DX you should check it out a bit better.
Cricket phones being on a different network may not work as well with a lot of the posted Rom's. Is the SBF for a Cricket phone different ?
Just some quick thought about your issues, hope they help...
Wat is the SBC? No i had the zio from kyocera before this one and it was pretty fast. Actually it was super fast on the web compared to this one. Could it be maybe the Guy who flashed it for me didn't flash it right.

A SBF is a system boot File. it contains boot up file, programs & system files and may contain phone (radio) files for your particular network which is Cricket. Most of the info here IMHO pertaind to Verizon.
I would search around in a thread that pertains to Cricket and SBF files and Roms.
Even though you have a DroidX thing are different with system files etc.
I just cancelled my wireless broadband service with Cricket after 4 solid months of crap for service. They were going to get the problem fixed for 3.5 months in my area.
I fixed it a couple of days ago. "CANCELLED THE SERVICE"....
Do you have an appropriate PRL file for Cricket? If not, that can be the root of some of your problems..

How would I go about getting a prl file. I never flashed a phone so all this is new. Does any one no of a good rom that I could use without loosing the full flash or any way to get around that
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
The person who flashed your phone did not do it properly and you do not have authentication for the EvDO(3G) network for your carrier. You only have 1X authentication so you are limited to 144Kbps.
You need to go back to that person and get them to fix it.
I do not recommend trying to fix it yourself unless you understand how to use software that can access the NVRAM and fix the data authentication items required for EvDO access on Cricket. The phone is setup to default to Verizon data authentication and rewrites those values to the MIP profile every time the phone boots. That has to be fixed in exactly the right way for it to work on Cricket and for those values to persist after a reboot. That is what they did wrong.
There is no SBF for Cricket because these phones are VZW exclusive devices.
Oh and SBF= Single Binary File that contains all of the code groups for the various partitions in the device's flash memory.
Ok so ur saying it is PR isn't or is possible to get evdo
Sent from my Droid x using XDA App
Yes, it is possible and is done frequently by people who know how.
You paid to have it flashed once I assume and you should have them fix it for you.
There are many threads about flashing to Cricket on many forums that explain in detail what you need to do. It is not an easy hack for a novice, unless you want to do a lot of research and find and learn to use software like CDMA Workshop or QXDM.

HTC evo on straight talk

okay so here is my question.
lets just say i got straight talk to activate my evo (no more info needed use you imagination)
1. would the data work
- i know i would have to get a verizion prl there is some on this forum.
would those prls work?
- i know verizion uses a-keys to authenticate the phone would *22890 work?
2. does sprint use a-keys?
3. i know that the radios are compatiable to use verizions towers.
4. would i need to change the spc to 000000?
- as i know that all verizion phones use that spc but does straight talk?
5does straight talk have data/mms format like [email protected]
any insight would be helpful?
im not stuck on straight talk open to boost virgin mobile im mostly wanting data
Sorry to bump an old thread but I've been playing with such things recently myself... Any luck?
Well I run my EVO on cricket, it works fine if data is all your after.

I appreciate the reply. I'm trying to find a service (preferably pre-paid) that uses Verizon with unlimited talk/data at a decent price. I'm moving where they have the only towers. Moved 5x (4 efts and many phones) since '03 and this sign a contract, buy a phone, repeat stuff stinks.

You have any links? I have pagplus now but would rather be on straight talk.
I had my evo on straight talk but no luck with the data settings. Scoured the internet forever. Also was unable to read settings from straight talk phones using cdma workshop or qpst because of the USB lock. A passcode is required on the phones themselves for service programming.
If you have anything on this I would appreciate it!

[Q] Questions about Droid X on Metro PCS

I know this question has been asked plenty of times before but I have some questions that I just cannot get a straight answer to. XDA came through for me with my HD2 and I hope I can get some guideance again.
Backstory....I got my HD2 all androided up with 2.2, ran up to my local "Simple Mobile" Store (Im sure most of you know, simple mobile is pretty much T-Mobile in disguise) and I got my phone activated. Then to smah my dreams, I find out I cant get signal at all within 10miles of my house. Although the phone is amazing when it does have signal.
So now, Im Looking into going back to MetroPCS because I have full signal with them every where I go, and Im looking at the Droid-X as my next phone porting Victim. However I cannot seem to find one solid guide on getting everything working properly. Some guides say everything but apps work, some say apps work but no mms, Is there one rock solid guide out there that will cover all aspects? Obviously I would like my phone to act just as it would on VZW, or as close as I can get. Secondly, Will I beable to get 3G or not? Im pretty sure MetroPCS does not have 3G(Atleast in Daytona Beach, FL), but some people keep saying they do. Lastly, Since im pretty sure that the answer to the last question will be a big fat NO, what kinds of internet speeds can I expect with Metro's network? Will apps like Pandora and Youtube Work? If so I know they will be slow, but just how slow are we talking?
Also, as a side question, are there any 4G LTE phones that can be ported over from verizon yet? Metro doesnt have the best selection of phones.
Thank you to anyone who can shed some light on this for me. Im definately not a noob, but I'm sure as hell no expert either.
Sorry for being so wordy with my question
Edit: Also I have a friend willing to sell me a EVO for $100, Is it possible to get that phone working aswell, apps and all?
for droid x:

for evo:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=704161
or
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=796257
just got these from a quick google search. there are lots of other guides
I have actually Seen the Guide for the droid X, and the first one you posted for the EVO. However I haven't see the second EVO guide that you posted, so thank you for that one, that answered the EVO question.
My only other question is; What (if any) apps Will not function on metropcs? I do not live in a EVDO market so I wont have 3G. Will apps like Pandora, Youtube, and google maps work? and if they do what kind of experiences have peole had with them, are they tolerable, or are they so slow that their barely usable?

Do you think it will even be worth it?
While I myself am a total VZW Fanboy, if you have constant access to WiFi (college campus), it wouldn't be so bad.
Personally, the hassle isn't worth it for me and I'd rather pay the premium for a reliable network, but for others, maybe not .
Interestingly enough I am seriously considering going to VZW. However I know they are going to require a deposit from me, but it's almost worth it for me. On a side note, this is for me and my wife, so if i do end up biting the bullet and going with VZW do you know if it would be one deposit for the whole account, or one deposit per line? ATT wanted $500 per line.
But in the mean time im still stuck with metro, and I have 25Mb/s internet at my house so im covers there, but unfortunately no WiFi at work.
I am currently using droid x on metro. With it upgraded to leaked gingerbread everything works except picture messages which can work but is a little buggy. You can follow the guid at Howard forums for flashing. You do not need U2LN or AUTOSTAT files at all with gingerbread and since metro dos not use a proxy anymore....

[CDMA NS4G] HOW TO: PRL hack Man UPDATE!

THIS Forum has helped me tremendously, This Question has been asked by ME and some other people, and I would like to share how I accomplished this Task.. Thanks for all of the useful info in the Q&A section..With out it i would have never have figured it out!! Hope this helps some!
First Off Google Search and download QPST 2.7 build 323
Install QPST
On your phones dialer: *#*#8778#*#*
Once the menu pops up select "Modem" on the bottom "USB" section
If on windows 7, Navigate to: stat menu >Control Panel>Device manager> PORTS>Samsung Mobile Modem...GET THE "COM##"
"Example Mine is COM39."
Go Start -> (All) Programs -> QPST -> QPST Configuration. Go Start -> (All) Programs -> QPST -> QPST Configuration.
"Add Port" - and input your COM#
Select your Device and Select "OK"
Open QSPT > Service Programing, Select your device
Navigate to the ROAM Tab, In the preferred Roaming section You can now Browse and select the PRL of your Choice.
I use the hybrid PRLs in the HTC evo Threads.
Select "write to phone."
If you want to Revert back to Sprint PRLs Here is a Link for Current and older Sprint PRLs
http://cid-eabe29f3770d8d15.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/.Public/PRLs
Phone should reboot and you are ready to rock and roll. Look under the about phone section to confirm your PRL has indeed changed.
I would Like to say this is not anything I have made up. I browsed multiple forums and sections to figure this out. All i did was simply write what worked for me. I hope Some of you peps can find this helpful. Thanks to everyone who responded to my posts in the Q&A section!
As Always Practice with care!!
I find this very helpful! I started a thread asking about this just today! So -this is awesome! Would you mind linking to a prl you have had success with?
Good on ya bro.
####EDIT####
I wanted to come back and state what should be obvious - but was not to me. When you are doing working on your prl you need to go back into *#*#8778#*#* and set it to pda/pda
After I did the above I thought I really jacked something up bc I could no longer use adb. then remembered that I had switched to modem/modem. I wrongly assumed a reboot would just change that back. I almost completely wiped and re-installed everything.

Can u provide more insight into this? How much is too much? When sprint drops u, do u mean they just drop ur phone from using their prl? My sprint signal near home is super weak and being able to jump on verizon would be stellar.

Guess its a good way to get out of your contract without the ETF. But after reading that hybrid prl's only increases your coverage and not your data speed, i'm not sure if i'll be using it. I get full bars where I live, just slow data speeds.

I tested my data before the prl hack and averaged 100kbs. I tested my data speeds after flashing the 00001 prl and averaged 800kbs.
so I did see an increase in data speeds.
Hmmm, interesting. Maybe I will take a look into it then.

The increase in data speeds is likely because you're pulling it off Verizon's 3G instead of Sprint's... What I said still applies, just a FYI.
So do ppl just leave it hanging while the hybrid prl is sucking in Verizon's 3g? Or do they turn it on and off to avoid sprint dropping them?

There is no easy off/on switch other then reflashing a non hybrid prl.

So do ppl just leave it hanging while the hybrid prl is sucking in Verizon's 3g? Or do they turn it on and off to avoid sprint dropping them?

I just did it bc I am a nerd and I wanted to try it. I am to chicken to continue the use of the hack prl. I may flash it sometimes if I "desperately" need faster data for something -but I have already flashed back to the latest sprint prl 01115 i think it is.
once you have figured out how to do it -and done it a couple of times - it just takes 2 minutes. the hardest part (as always) is finding the stuff and installing it and then a little bit of figuring out. First attempt was scary. Next couple of times -not so scary. Now -just like flashing a rom.
Sprint can drop you for excessive roaming.
Simply said, Just use this hack if you absolutely need it. The ROAMING RULE IS, It takes away from your anytime minutes, and only 300mbs of roaming data a month. Hence Sprint can and may cancel your contract early.
FOR ME I HAVE RAN INTO NO PROBLEMS, so your outcome may be different so practice with care. I only use it because it is beneficial for me, and for many people as well, just check the EVO DEV Tread.
BUT SAME COULD BE SAID FOR TETHERING YOUR DEVICE, sprint also could reserve the right to cancel your contract...Have any of you heard of CIQ? Believe it or not sprint already knows your rooted and what firmware-ROM u are running exactly- In Fact i have first hand experience in actually knowing so. Long Story how but I do!
Rule of thumb practice with care you will be alright
SOME PEPS have more of a Inside connect so i personally don't worry as much as some peps

Evo and freedompop

Has anyone been able to get their Evo to connect to freedom pop?
I have changed the realm and Mac, just like the S2 phone, but to no avail.

It's probably possible if you have a wifi network set up with them as your isp. I don't know much about them, and I don't have FreedomPop availability anywhere near me, so I can't really help you. Sorry
did it work?
ant news on this post??
I have an old EVO 4G and considering it's a free service, I'll give it a shot when I get home.
I got it to work a few hours ago.
I had to revert to stock and then update profile.
Works though, I am also not in the coverage area. But I can make calls.
Thanks for the tip frogman, I had to update profile as well but it worked. Another note for others: The MSL password freedompop gave me during its setup instructions did not work, but updating profile afterwards did.
Here's a speed test on 4G in the Houston area. Not too shabby for a 100% free service!!

I just flashed my old bedside Evo 4g (it's seriously been an alarm clock for months) back to Sprint from Cricket and activated it with FreedomPop. I bought it a couple years ago thinking it had a bad ESN and I could save a few bucks using it on Cricket. I would have never imaged that today I would be activating it for totally free service.
My alarm clock has just become highly capable off wifi again lol.
Crazy.
It's time to get back in to developing on this thing again.
Update: Seems to work nicely so far. The only things I'd note are that the VoIP is a tad slow. If I make a call in the same room with someone I notice about a 1 second delay between them actually talking and me hearing them on the phone. Also I really don't like the text messaging app. It cuts off part of the text message with the balloon graphic. Not sure if there's any way around that. It'd be nice if they'd hijack the default messaging app in the same way they did the phone app so it'd be truly seamless. But oh well, it is FREE.
Has anyone tried this with a non-stock ROM like Cyanogenmod?
i got it working, finally. i had to get my own msl unlock code.
Anyways, i just got the phone off of CL. I want to root it.
before i can root it, i need to unlock the bootloader, and it would factory reset the phone. Would the factory reset mess up the freedompop setup?
thanks

I just got my (retired) OG set up on this. Was pretty straightforward. Once the device is activated, you should be able to unlock/S-OFF/whatever. I'm about to check and see if it's possible to use a JellyBean ROM with it. It should be fine.
Works on CM10.1. And I can still use Google Voice for my other number through the native dialer, if I want. Very nice.

Which rom did you flash? Would the 422 aokp rom work?

Any ROM should work, as long as you activate it on stock first. Once it's activated it should stay that way.
Keep in mind though that you lose WiMAX once you flash a non-Gingerbread ROM. Call quality did seem adequate over 3G, though (surprisingly).
Would someone mind sharing the search terms you used to find instructions on how to flash to Freedom pop? I've searched Google and even on Freedom pop's website. I'm willing to search, but just need a little help to get started.

you dont need to flash to it, but you do need to have the right phones:
Phones you can bring:
- Source Gizmodo
HTC EVO 4G
Samsung Epic 4G
Samsung Epic 4G Touch
Samsung Galaxy S III 16GB
LG Optimus S
Motorola Photon 4G
HTC EVO 3D
Boost Prevail by Samsung
Galaxy Nexus by Samsung
Nexus S 4G by Samsung
http://freedompop.com/byod
- after you put your address, you will need to put the meid of the phone, then it will tell you if you phone will work with them
Many thanks!

EVO 3D doesn't work - I tried it. I think the EVO 4G might be the only phone they're supporting initially (since it's the one they offer). And you have to use the MEID DEC - HEX won't work.
Loading went well. Speed test over 1mb down. Made a test phone call... Unbelievable! This can't be real. Lol All, thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Yep, the only phone you can activate right now is the Evo 4G or the Evo design. Some people are having luck with the Galaxy SII, but it's not universal. Long thread here:
