What is the deal with the awake times in 4.2.1? My phone shows that it is barely ever "awake" on the battery stats, despite 4 hours of screen usage today?
It's probably like me for the first couple of hours every morning then
I'm noticing the same thing. I would presume that the phone should be awake when the screen is on, but it show as sleeping. I think the awake stats are messed-up.

The battery seems to be the main annoyance with this phone. I have odd awake times too. I disabled everything in wireless, sync and Google now etc and still get odd readings. Its drains overnight more than any other Android phone I have used (S2 just flat lines overnight)
Then in use the battery can take a real dive. Youtube and Chrome are very battery hungry yet I get decent results from games like Asphalt?
I think they need to sort this out.
My Galaxy Nexus would easily go 24 hours on a charge. This phone won't make it 9 hours with light use.
I thought it would be as good or better than its twin, the LTE Optimus G. The fact that it only lasts half as long is insane.
I should clarify - I am not having problems with battery LIFE as opposed to screwy battery stats claiming my phone is rarely actually awake. This phone flatlines for me when idle as well as any other has - I rarely lose more then 1% an hour.
I never had this issue on my Galaxy Nexus, but I never bothered to update it beyond 4.1.2 since my Nexus 4 was en route. For example:

I've seen this in a ton of other screenshots as well and always thought it was peculiar behavior. Shouldn't the stats show "awake" when the screen is on? That's how all my previous phones have done it, and it's the way things make sense. With these stats, how are you supposed to tell when an app is waking the phone up as opposed to you waking the phone up by turning the screen on?
Unless that's what these new stats are representing? Maybe now instead of sowing ALL awake time, they only show awake time for when it isn't actually YOU waking up the phone, it's when something other than you wakes up the phone, like a rogue app. In which case this would be extremely handy.
Interesting theory, but it's a bit hard to prove. It's amazing no one has really discussed this yet.
Bump.
Mine looks the same... :S
im confused with the "keep awake" times of android OS and google services in battery stats. clearly eating battery while the phone is sleeping but i've tried turning off everything and still they show long keep awake times.

0.5% for every hour is actually really good. When you think about it, that amounts to about 200 hours, which is over 8 days. I don't think it gets better than that.
Don't be fooled by manufacturer specs that claim ridiculous amounts of standby time because that is under very specific conditions. For example, "Airplane Mode", no apps installed, and zero(0) screen time.
EDIT: I just noticed you have it on Airplane mode. Do you have anything installed that could keep it awake? Such as a third party launcher or lock screen?

That really isn't bad at all... why don't you use the phone normally, start from a full charge and when it gets to 5% check your battery stats again.
I haven't seen an Atrix rom yet on which the phone goes to sleep properly.
But to be fair, it doesn't influence battery life all that much.
And yes, 0.5% per hour drain is about the best you can get with this phone.
Have you had any problems with that rom? Now that I see your stats, I think I might switch to it.
How do you know it dont go to deep sleep mode? Install CPU Spy, and it will tell how many hours the phone stays in each cpu state...
Im on gingermod and my phone drains like 5-7% in like 8 hours if its only in standby, without data/wifi on, but keeping phone signal on.
Atrix 4g
I'm running WETDREAM 1. 3.0 and FAUX 1.3ghz kernel. No wifi, no gps, average widgets active, active twitter, active google plus, 3 gmail accounts and constantly playing shadow8-gun....i average 8-10 hrs with medium to harsh usage.
Neutrino has to be one of the best ROM's I've ever experienced. It's well maintained and has a host of performance improvements. I've had some of the best battery life out of this rom.
The ICS alpha is going well but its a long way away from matching the maturity of Neutrino. The battery life right now is not great due to a "bluesleep" issue but its currently being looked at.
Whichever rom you choose, make sure you calibrate your battery after flashing!
I'm not an incredibly advanced android user, I am smart and experienced enough to optimize some settings. I've got stock rom and andrew did. I do not have any application killer maps or anything stupid like that. I do you use elixir 2 widgets with all lots of widgets showing - like 32 of them. They are all set to refresh relatively frequently. However in not certain this is what is eating my battery as elixir has never been a problem on 4 other devices.
I also use very low brightness setting - 8% mostly and 23% or 65% very infrequently.
I'm seeing high 70%s of screen battery usage. Overall, I like the battery life but I'm concerned that if I do much more than I have been - which isn't much - or if I decide to get some gaming or put this screen up to real brightness, I'll have negligible life.
Summer question, what am I doing wrong, or what can I do including nonstock roms or further settings modifications to make sure I get the most of my battery life/screen use?
Obviously I'm about to remove elixir widgets and letting it run for a while to see if there's any change.

Uh, I'd say that 47% used with the device on for 9+ hours and 3+ hours of screen time is really good. There's nothing wrong with your Nexus and the high screen percentage is normal.

43% total.
But anyway to the point - really 77% screen usage is normal? I have seen lots of screens from other people where their screen usage is in the 45% range. I thought things wrong. Especially considering that I'm working at such a low brightness.

Seems normal to me, around 70% is pretty much what mine gets for Screen usage, unless I'm gaming a lot and then it drops to 40-50%.

Of all the battery you used, the screen used 77 percent of that. If you play a graphically intensive game, that percentage will decrease, but that doesn't mean it is using less battery, just less in comparison to other apps.
People who have screens using 45% are using MORE battery than you, other apps are balancing out that ratio. Basically, you want the screen to have the largest percentage, and there is nothing you can do to decrease screen drain other than turning brightness down as low as you can tolerate.
Having send thought about it for quite awhile, now I understand thanks for all the help.

I read a blog which suggested, when charging overnight, to turn the N10 off completely rather than just having it sleep. Is there any merit to this? Does it charge faster?

It does charge faster because the device isn't doing anything to drain the battery. Although overnight is often when devices update themselves so it's up to you if it is necessary as it should fully charge overnight.
I dont see a reason to turn off the tablet to charge, and my tablet never gets turned off. Because there was a user here saying we needed to turn off our tablets any time we werent going to use it within the next hour or two, I did some battery tests. This tablet (assuming you aren't running battery draining apps in the background) loses 1% of battery every 7~ days when idle. So thinking the tablet will somehow charge faster while it is off would be false as we really have negligible drain during idle time. That is unless you are syncing a large number of apps and have a ton of things updating in the background.
Currently my tablet has been on and hasnt charged in 16 and a half days. I have been really busy at work during the week and busy with my friends on the weekends, so I have really only used my tablet about an hour and a half during this charge cycle. So have so far lost only 2% battery from idle, and another 19% from the hour to hour and a half from the time I was playing a video game on the tablet. Assuming I dont use the tablet, I truly expect to be able to pick it up in another 2 weeks from now if I wanted and still be in the 70% range on battery life remaining.

And if you do have a lot of stuff syncing in the background, you still wouldn't want to turn the tablet off while charging since then the things you want to sync will need to sync when you're running off battery instead.
Yup, I agree with the posts above. The only way you could really slow down charging significantly would be with daydream running. This display sure drains lots of energy.
I do both, sometimes powered down other times in sleep mode. Don't see a whole lot of difference.
Here are some screenshots of just how long the battery lasts while idle:

Hi, I have my s7 edge for 3 months and my battery life is less and less big. My android system is taking a lot of the battery life but I let you see that in the screenshots.

I looked for the solution and I saw that some of the users of s7 edge reset their phone and the issue was gone bit it didn't work for me.
Thank you in advance.
This topic has been discussed ad nauseam in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/help/how-experiencing-android-battery-drain-t3327730
There has not been a clear solution that works for everyone. 18% seems to be normal for most. I am usually around that and can get above 5 hrs of SOT with 24 hours total. I would focus on other ways to improve battery life. There is other app or process that is causing your problems. For example, it looks like Good Lock is using a lot of battery in the screen shot you posted. When I used it, it only used about 2-3% battery. The location specific settings in that app can drain a lot of battery. I would also try and see if something is keeping your phone awake. There probably is something and that is what is most likely draining your battery.
First thing would be turn off google back-up if you have not. That was a major source of wakelocks for me. Also try a battery monitor like GSAM or Better battery Stats to get a better picture of what is going on.

Thank you for your help, I will try your solution. If the issue persists I will go to my carreer to see what they will they about that.
As already posted there is a thread for this here

so I'll close this one as it probably should have been in Q&A

Is that not normal? lol Mine pretty much looks the same. All my apps are at the bottom of the list but iam getting great battery life
what is your SOT?
i get same system usage as you but i 5-6 sot
4-6 SOT, actually, I thought Android battery life has evolved when I bought galaxy s8. But no, it keeps sucking my battery life even when it's in my pocket.
Unfortunately this issue is present on all samsung galaxy phones i've owned recently (s6 edge, s7).
I can't understand why the battery life is so bad and inconsistent.
No matter if all day wifi or mixed (data 4g/lte & wifi)
The background usage is pretty minimal. I don't understand why people complain that "something" however small is going on with the phone when the screen is off. The system is still alive, after all. Notifications need to get through, sensors need to be active to wake the phone (fingerprint, accelerometer, etc), apps need to be kept in memory, not to mention the always on display. Is it that surprising that if battery went down 10 percent during sleep 20, 30 or even 80 of that drop is due to these things? (that's what that reading indicates after all, 9% is not from total battery capacity, but 9% out of the amount drained).
Sorry for the rude rant, but people "expect" too much of the standby times.
Can the battery be improved? Certainly. Can the power drain be improved? Of course. But never to the point where it consumes absolutely nothing at all during sleep. Except if you turn the phone off.

20 hours on battery, 30%left. OP must be trolling.
Normal
I noticed finger print loves to break deep sleep.
4-6 hours of SOT? That's pretty good though... Same with what most people are getting including me. If I drained it all the way down I could probably reach 7 hours SOT. Totally beats the 3 hours SOT I got with my Note 5.

Did your previous phone with a 3000mah battery and a bigass screen get 4-6 hours of sot? I thought so...

Did you realize that when you total up the battery usage, you won't get 100% of battery charge?
