Kindle App FC after 4.2.1 update - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks, any of you run into this problem? The Kindle app ran fine on 4.2, but after the 4.2.1 update, every time I try to open it, it FC. Tried rebooting the device with no avail.

I'm running stock 4.2.1 and the kindle app runs fine...

I ended up going into App Info and deleting the data for Kindle. It worked after that.

Moral of the story: one has to do what has to be done and can be done before crying wolf.

Deleting/restoring all data with the Kindle app is a painful process if you have a lot of books loaded - I have 200. You have to individually elect and reload every book you want on your device. It is irritating that there is not an option to download all archived items or at least a multi-select capability. Oh, yeah, please add collections ...

EXACTLY! We should petition Amazon for this feature. It's ridiculous that I have to press, hold, and hit download for every. single. book. I would welcome a select all or multi-select feature.

After update to 4.2.1 the Kindle app hangs at the splash screen.
Neither clearing data nor reinstall helps.
What else can I do?

[Q] XDA Premium App Wont Install on Iconia?

So i had the Premium App and enjoyed reading from my tablet.
Now in Marketplace under "My Apps" it shows as "not installed" and when i hit install it does a little loader and goes back to the "not installed screen"...
Anyone else having this happen on a Acer Iconia a500 ?
not quite the same issue, but the free version of the app constantly force closes on my a500. every time i open it back up, i have to login, only to be force closed on again a few minutes later. maybe they finally realized it doesnt work on honeycomb and removed the ability to install it on this version of android?
in your case, can you try restoring it from titanium backup? assuming you're using that of course.

OK....now it still shows in market as not being installed.... but it works.
Odd.
Need to screenshot this somehow without having to root the tablet.

I have the same problem with the free version. It force closes after I sign in.
Also for the Market, when I am looking through apps, the FREE or BUY button appears next to them even if I already have them installed.
Question ...why are you guys using an app instead of the browser?
Outside of the search function it works just as it does on a desktop

Being able to quickly search is helpful and to show support for XDA.

click on Browser (or whatever app your having problems with)
click on clear data

Thanks, I'll try that.
if you don't know which Google sync is causing the problems go into accounts sync turn off all the snyc with your account and turn then on one by one, you'll get the error when you go to sync on of the Google apps, for me it was a problem with my bookmarks sync with chrome once I had sync chrome on my desktop to my Google account the problem stopped on the tablet
I tried a bunch of different things. Error kept coming back.. I gave up and took it back to best buy to get a new tablet. I didn't feel like installing a rom from xda when it should have worked in the first place. Installed the updates on the new tablet and everything is working.
Thanks for your help

[Solved] Rooting breaks Amazon video?

I rooted my Kindle successfully using the great video tutorials here, but since then the Amazon video feature does not work. It says my device is not configured to allow the streaming video when I try to play and the play buttons are greyed out.
Is this a known issue? Is there a fix for it? Thanks!

What Rom are you using?
If stock or stock related, you can use OTA Rootkeeper to make Amazon Video think it is not rooted.

It is Kindle stock rooted, no custom ROM.
Thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded and installed Rootkeeper and Amazon video still isn't working. I even tried to temp unroot with no luck.
You have to use the Unroot button.
Then, go to Setup -> Applications
Select Amazon Video
Choose Force close
Now try it. Amazon video basically runs all the time, so until you force close it, it will think you are still rooted.

[Help] Docs Stopped Working

My documents are not opening on the "Amazon Launcher" anymore.
Once i touch the file on the grid, it "flashes" (indicating the "click/touch") but nothing happens.
Also, my Documents on the "sdcard" folder are not showing up on the "Device" tab, is there any specific folder i have to put them ?
I installed two apps "Quick Office" and "Office Suite", i dont know if it makes any difference but, who knows.
What can be happening?
Info : Rooted 6.3 Kindle Fire - No Custom Rom
Thanks in advance.
Bumping Thread.
Sorry for doing this, but, i need to make the documents tab work
The location of the document folder is user configurable through setting option as part of office application. You may create a new folder to store your docs or you can use icloude services.

Im not sure if im too late, but i had a similar problem, and i read in a thread a ways back that to solve this, you need to go to system/app/kindleforotter.apk reinstall the app using root explorer or something similar. It solved my issue with this, i hipe it does yours.

[HACK] Kindle Reading App on Third Party Launchers

This is a hack for anyone who is running stock Amazon OS. For some reason, if you add the Kindle Reading app icon to a third party launcher (Such as Nova, Apex, etc.), it won't launch the app. Instead, to access your books, you must use the stock Carousel launcher to get to your reading library. This command, however, will force the Kindle to display your books.
This has been tested on a KFHD 7" running Stock OS 7.4.3. It should work on the 2nd gen Kindle Fire and the KFHD 8.9" and even Kinology as well.
Some notes:
Root required
You need to have a way to launch command shortcuts from your launcher home screen (for a Laucher Icon)
The stock launcher MUST be installed. The command uses a line from Launcher.apk's Android-Manifest file.
You can also create a command shortcut on the home screen using ROM Toolbox. Enter this command...
Code:
am start -a com.amazon.kindle.otter.action.SHOW_BOOKS
or
Code:
am start -a com.amazon.kindle.otter.action.internal.SHOW_BOOKS
...and allow it to run commands as root.
The script and a couple screenshots are attached below. Also attached is the Kindle Reading app icon, pulled straight from the app; for anyone who wants to change the image of their homescreen icon.
EDIT: Running the command "am start -a com.amazon.kindle.otter.action.internal.SHOW_BOOKS" will show the books already on your SD card, rather than all the books stored in the Amazon cloud.
and if i put this script in int.d?

Honestly? I have no clue
It's not necessarily a performance tweak. It just kind of fires a command when the user triggers it.

I'm don't know. Lemme try something...
Okay. I downloaded ROM Toolbox (after a couple times of rebooting my internet router -_-) and set the script to run at boot. After a few seconds of rebooting, it opened the KindleForOtter.apk. So running this script at boot will immediately launch the Kindle reading app.
I know just enough to be a danger to myself ...

I want to start by saying thanks. This has been driving me nuts and every fix I have seen involves files that are no longer online, as well as moving, deleting, moving again, uninstalling, reinstalling ... this seems to be a pretty simple fix ... but the presentation is a little higher level than I am at. Y'all have kinda glossed over some areas I am unsure of.
I have ROM Toolbox downloaded and have looked all this over ... but I've no idea exactly what to do to put this hack into action. Where do I go in ROM Toolbox to enter the command? I'm guessing once I save this, I can create a shortcut to it and then change the icon. Would y'all be able to give me some more direction, please?

Sure. Assuming you have a different launcher installed, go to your widgets and select "Command Shortcut". Place it wherever, and in the "Command:" field, enter the command. Name it whatever you want, and once it's on your home screen, you can change the icon by holding it and selecting "Edit" and then tapping the icon.

Thanks. Sometime after I posted my query above my reader on the Kindle stock screen stopped working ... and in trying to figure out what I'd done, which at the point had been nothing, I somehow lost my root and ended up with a reset. Now I'm trying to clear everything out, since the reset leaves a lot of residue behind. Once I fix my mess I'll be back to try this out.
Edit: Fixed my mess. Second of two command lines from the hack worked. Now I'm just trying to get the icon the way I want it. Thank you all for your help.
