Nexus 7 doesn't see wifi connection (yet everything else can connect) - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As the title indicates, I've got my wifi going from your typical Linksys WRT54 and the laptop I'm on right now is connected to it and working just fine. Wife's ipad is connected and my Mytouch4G sees it as well.
I've got the wifi analyzer app on my nexus 7 and even it shows a massively strong signal from that wifi connection here in the room but alas, there is no notification on the top status bar of the device allowing me to connect to it.
I've tired restarting the device but that didn't help. Is there anything I'm missing here?
i'm running bugless beast rom which is essentially stock android 4.1.2.
EDIT: FIXED
I figured it out. Those missing settings are revealed by long pressing where it says wifi. That opened up the new menu with all the standard wifi settings. Hit scan and it found the network right away.
Case closed!

Any other Wi-Fi connections to test it on?
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app

the wifi analyzer sees about 6 or 7 different networks but there seems to be no way to even attempt to connect to any of them.
at my house, first time connecting it would have up in the top left corner of the screen, the little wifi cone/signal icon with the ? in it indicating that there was a connection I could hop on but that's not there right now.
the wifi icon on the top right typically indicating signal strength is totally empty.

I don't see that option anywhere in the settings menu. the wireless & networks section of the settings only has airplane mode, VPN, NFC and android beam.

Change the WiFi channel in your router. I had this problem with one of my phones, red that someone had solved it by changing the channel. It sounded to easy but it worked. I really really hate wifi standards.

That fix you post it, it's what I was trying to tell you by "rescan". I should be more specific I thought you were more familiar with android.
Good you figured it out.

I am confused. Did you not know the stock froyo did wifi tethering? Am I not understanding completely?

You're not understanding completely. My desktop computer does not have a built in wi-fi adapter, so I would have to use a wireless USB network adapter to get internet on this machine. Using this method, I was able to use the internet from my ISP (Cox Communications) rather than resort to using T-mobile's 3G network.
Let me do a flowchart for you:

Yeah, okay I did understand.
The phone can tether the cellular signal or the wifi signal.
It was implemented in froyo.
What is really cool is how fast it is. My computer is hard wired into my home network and when I activate tethering and disable the wired connection, the difference in speed tests and pings is imperceptible. They are both the same. Very impressive.
I like what you've done. You are tethering your computer to your phone via USB and then using your phone's WiFi connection to connect to your home's WiFi router, then on to Cox and the Internet.
In your diagram, the Internet doesn't lie between your phone and the computer. The Internet lies beyond your ISP. Otherwise nice.
Lastly, the tethering features were added by 2.2 as pointed out already.
Edit: added a diagram

By default wifi is set to sleep when the screen is off. Have you disabled this in wifi advanced settings?
Took me a few minutes to understand...
The point to note is: "tethering shares whatever internet connection is available"
1) Connect to the wifi network using your nexus one.
2) Share the internet via USB tethering.

Networking problem, need help please

Help,please.
Meet the problem. Transformer connected to my home wifi network. All devices in network connected to the internet, except Transformer. Manually configured network. I tried different wifi networks. All wifi networks successfully connected, but without internet. It looks like transformer could not route. i could not ping machines in the same network. Is there anybody who has same problem??
Thanks in advance
P.S. Who knows how to make routing table? Transformer connects to wifi, can ping himself but could not ping gateway in the same network.
It happend when i started playing with ROMs. Installed different ROMs with super wipe (Revolver, Revolution HD, Megatron, ICS WW_epaduser9_2_1_24, same problem.
have you tried switching the router off for a few minutes and rebooting it?

O yess, many times. If it is router problem, then all other machines could not connect to internet over wifi. Only Transformer could not, and tested on 3 different wifi networks (with and without DHCP)
probably wont help, but what about Kernel - have you tried different Kernels?

I tried different kernels, (Kernel-ICS-V22.6-OC1700-fb-AOKP_646, kernel_asus_rev01) but what kernel would you suggest?
if those have not worked then i doubt any others will. Rev3 Harmony (asus or universal) depending on which base your going to try - or the latest Guevor, version depending on base again.
Wifi is not my thing but thought id ask the obvious just incase. sorry i cant help more but im sure someone will be along soon :good:
WTF.
Installed Kernel Guevor N22.6 and Revolver 4.0.3 ROM. Same problem. Connected to wifi but no internet.
Even I disassemble Transformer and reconnected batteries. Does not help
Is it possible that hardware problem in wifi? Why in that case wifi connected? Magic.
First try turning air plane mode on then off to see if that works also your network may not like androids long default host name so consider changing that if you have root
What router are you using? make sure your using channels 1-11 (not 12 or 13) and check your on 2.4 GHz not 5 GHz
For the present test im using connectify soft and share my internet over my laptop. And it worked before. I installed busybox and did some commands. It looks like oruting table is correct, def gateway is pinging, interface is up. But could not connect to any site over integrated brower, could not connect to youtube or playmarket or gmail. Attached is screenshot. Maybe i lost something.

:crying:
No one, who can give me any advice??
I reflashed Transformer up to latest ICS WW 9.2.1.27. Did not help. Still connected to wifi, but could not access to internet.
giving your router configuration and brands, could help I think...
in my period of owning a transformer, there are one place at where I live where it can't connect to.. a free wifi at a restaurant.. it just cant't, it detects but it can't connect.. the channel was within 1-11, but still not connectable.. I've tried different roms and kernel, still to no avail.. while my other device can connect to it just fine... maybe there are some router that transformer not compatible with..
Problem is that transformer could connect to wifi network without any problem. It shows that connected to internet, but could not open any site or youtube or gmail.

WiFi battery drain

I have terrible battery at home, but ok at work. Looking at my graph, the first 2 and last wifi line is home, the 3rd is at work. Mostly screen off. What's going on? Is there a router setting I can change?

I had bad battery life on my S4 right after release. I tracked it down to Multicast being ENABLED on one of my Access Points. I would recommend logging into your routers and/or) access points and look for anything related to Multicast and Disable it (or uncheck it).
Granted this was for a totally different device (note that my Nexus 7 was NOT affected by multicast) but it certainly cant hurt anything by disabling multicast..If it does, just enable it again.
My S4 was using approx 5%-8% of battery per hour with multicast enabled...once I disabled it, I now drain about 1% per hour.
This took me almost 2 weeks to discover...keeping in mind that my S4 never connected to the affected AP. I use that AP for older legacy devices.....just having it on the network affected my S4.
Give it a try..if it does not work..enable it again.
That does sound logical, and I've read about that in other threads. I have a WRT54G router and see nothing about multicast other than "filter multicast" under security (block LAN requests) which is checked to prevent multicast.
The other thing that has changed recently is I switched Cable modems from Cisco 2100 to Motorola SB6141. Not sure if I can change anything in it or if could cause problems.

I was running Tomato on the WRT54G and that is the setting I was referring to (but under tomato its in FIrewall - "Allow MultiCast"
It seems that you have the "correct" setting - To block multicast - As such, I'm sorry that my fix didnt work for you..
As far as the new Modem, it may be possible that multicast is enabled on the new one. Im not even sure if that is a setting you can change as those motorolas are locked down pretty tight by the ISP's

Have you used the same SSID on your 5GHz as on your 2.4GHz?
If so: they must be different!

My Note 3 Work very well on 5 Ghz, is my wifi at home. Router Belkin.
Look whit Wifi Analyzer, option wifi channels. You see all of the 2,4 Ghz, and if You touch on top left it change to 5 Ghz. You must see Yours.
My N9005 connects to my Asus RT-AC66U, but keeps complaining about an unstable internet connection. My old SIII worked fine. Compatibility issue between N9005 and Asus AP's?

Did you find a solution? I have the same pproblem. This plus the unstable connection problem is making me miss my note 1
Found this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1675547 on 5ghz connection issues on Note 1 in Hong Kong. It describes channel limitation based on region. The file in my etc folder has ccode=GB which I assume is Great Britain. However, it allows the channels that my wifi router EA4500 is using on the 5ghz channel. So no luck on recognizing the 5 ghz network still.
I downloaed wifi analyzer and looked at my network. By default my router and I assume all the ones in my neighborhood use channel 1 on 2.4ghz. I just switched to channel 12 and there hasn't been any issue for the past hour i.e. no unstable connection warning from the phone. Just downloaded a 40MB file without any glitches at good speed. Will report back if the problem comes back.
Edit: Spoke too soon. Unstable connection warning back in a couple of hours. The interesting thing is that both my old Note 1 (N7000) and my wife's S4 can see and connect to the 5ghz SSID just fine and of course have no unstable connection notifications which seem to be an 'enhancement' in the note 3! Sigh Haven't even rooted the N9005 because of the knox flag or I would have played a bit with the wlan configs in the etc folder. Guess will have to wait for Samsung to come around to admitting a problem and then fixing it.
I've been having the same issue with my RT-AC66U.

I also have a RT-AC66U... and I'm connected fine with my Note 3.
go into your wifi settings and make sure that the third checkbox is not checked.
Name in french of this box is "Basculement réseau auto"...
With this setting enabled, my wifi is unstable even if the signal power is full.
Also make sure that you have the latest firmware on your router.
Try channel 48. Dont use those channels 160+, may not be supported.
I'm using an AC66U.

Is anyone having an issue where WiFi disconnects on its own and seems to disconnect the phone from Verizon's network as well.

I haven't had that problem. I only had a problem with the advanced calling feature turned on during a call.
I did where the phone showed still connected but router showed disconnected. It is not a phone issue, it was an issue with my Linksys N router

What was the issue with the router causing this? Did you fix it?
Thanks!
It seems to be a problem on both the Turbo and the Moto x pure, many people in the Motorola forums say they purchased a new router and it seemed to work. I personally won't be buying a new router just for this phone. Hopefully it will be fixed with the marshmallow update
Well I disconnected my Linksys Router and used the Comcast modem and setup WiFi with it and works great now
extremely frustrated with turbo 2 wifi
I'm having the same problem, and it's true on at least 3 different routers so far. I surely won't be replacing every router I ever need to connect to. As a frequent international traveler this is a HUGE problem for me and will result in my getting a different phone before my next international trip if it is not resolved quickly.

No. Haven't tested on any Linksys. All were Netgear routers, 2 with N (running DDWRT) and one with AC (factory firmware) protocol.
Don't know then. Mine has worked fine on a netgear R7000 on stock and dd-wrt.
