HDC Super Nexus (china phone) and my current AT&T unlimited DATA - Networking

I am thinking of buying a China phone. It does have AT&T WCDMA and GSM bands.
I am concerned that when I put in my SIM the new IMEI may trigger AT&T to make my
unlimited feature phone data ($10 mo) jump to a smartphone plan.
Anyone have experience bringing a China Smartphone onto AT&T and getting the Dreaded
"AUTOmatic Upgrade to 4GB a month plan" sms from AT&T? Thoughts?
Thanks in advance!

[Q] Dubai Tab in the USA

Hello !!
I bought an unlocked Galaxy Tab in Dubai UAE and would like to use it in SF Bay Area.
My Tab's Supported bands are:
GSM&EDGE Band 850/900/1800/1900
3G Band 900/1900/2100
I would like your advice / experience sharing with subscribing to the most suitable US wireless carrier for my tab.
Would ATT or Tmobile work?
Is 3G an attainable objective?
Which plans would you suggest? I am planning to use this device primarily for mobile web access, with occasional phone calls as well.
Thanks in advance for your kind feedback!
K
PS: pls note I spent several hours trying to find answer on this site as well as others before posting, my apologies however if this question was already asked and answered on this forum.
Hi,
on a recent trip the the US I purchased a prepaid SIM from AT&T for data usage only.
I wanted to get one that allowed me the option to make a phone call but didnt find any luck - all data/phone bundles are for postpaid and tie you to a 12/18 month contract....
Although I must say they were not very sure of what they were doing, I had to convince them that the same iPad packages would work on the Galaxy - keeping in mind that you would have to manually entr the APN settings..

You won't get 3G on TMo at all, since your Tab doesn't support AWS 1700/2100.
AT&T supports 3G on 850MHz and 1900MHz, so if you are in a region which uses 1900MHz you should be ok.
The bad news is that prepaid data deals on AT&T are very poor indeed and there don't seem to be an MVNOs that run on AT&T and offer decent amounts of data.
My advice, which is what I've actually done, would be to by a Virgin Mobile MiFi - for $40 a month you get 5GB data (it was unlimited, but that ends at the start of Feb). Virgin Mobile runs over Sprint (CDMA), but using the MiFi at least gives you a decent amount of data for a reasonable price - however, the MiFi will run you around $129.
Regards,
Dave

This tab will work on the at&t network and should go to 3g. Unlocked is a good start, but you will most likely need to flash Roto JME version 4, to get the phone dialer. You should also flash the bell i900 modem instead of the stock modem. You will need an at&t data plan. I don't know what their prices are. I have heard of people using an iphone plan.
There are several good step by step lessons. I saw one by member Queen Amy that is excellent.
Or you can avoid all this and use wifi only.

Does your Galaxy Tab have the Market App? When I bought mine from Dubai, it didn't.
You might want to have a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818167 for details about how to enable it.
Thank you all!

[Q] Sim card

I just purchased an unlocked galaxy note this evening, which is the first unlocked international phone that i have ever purchased and I just thought of a question that I can't find the answer to. Does the Nkte come with a sim card if not how do I get one for use on AT&T? I hope someone can help with my question.
Thanks,
Wrong section. Ask this on Q section please.
Anyway, if im not mistaken i read some where that u need to purchase the sim and the phone with proper plan (im not att customer). Grand father, use as u want on the go plan etc. Purchase the iphone, sell the phone on ebay n use the sim on your Note.
But u will only get edge from this. No 4g or lte..

No SIM card in the box that I know of.
AT&T or any other provider should send you one upon request.

Incorrect, you will get 3g and H+ on ATT, not just edge. T-Mobile will only worth with Edge(2g).
The SIM is always associated with the carrier, so you need to get the SIM from the carrier. If you have a active SIM from your old phone on ATT, use that. If you do not want to buy another phone just to activate it, take the Note into the ATT store and they can get you set up. Just get the correct APN information here before you go in, the people in the store are not always trained to program(input the apn) international phones.
If you plan to keep the Note for a contract period (2 years) The best option is for you to buy a iPhone 4S for $200 and re-sell it only for $600. You will make a very nice profit if you keep your ATT plan for the entire 2 years...and if you do not keep the plan, that extra you made will more then pay for your ETF.

Really? Maybe im wrong then. Anyway, what i know is that (by just reading in xda) is that the 3g, 4g and others only applicable with the phone that u had register with att. They have your imei no. Others than that imei no phone, you will end up throtteling and just can use the edge.
Anyway, dont take my word. Better you go to the att center to get the correct info

People in an ATT Store may or may not be able to help you. They are not always trained to deal with international phones, as US phones are always locked in.
I am using my Note with ATT. You will most certinaly get 3G as I do.

So if I can't get much help with getting the ATT people at a store can I purchase on from ebay. Is it a micro or regular sim card that is used in the note?
Thanks
I had absolutely no problems when I brought my Note into AT&T. They put a new SIM card in and all was good. Just had to put in the correct APN information in and I had 3G and HSPA+. No worries.

Ok...AT&T it is then. Thanks for the help.

Who is getting the GT-9500 for the media net AT&T plan?

I will be getting the GT-9500 even with out LTE so that it will work on my AT&T unlimited data plan.
That and from what I seen with both of my Verizon LTE phones or 3 if you count a replacement LTE for phone use over 5mbs 3g is not that big of a deal unless you are going to tether the living crap out of it or download ton's of stuff to your phone with a unlimited data plan.
But I also hate having to "fix" branded phone's full of junk ware. I would like to just have a phone that you don't have to flash a rom just to tether, because the one on the phone sucks thanks to verizon/AT&T putting theres on it or other issues that come with it.
Now is any one else going to do this?
The International Galaxy S2 (i9100) is pretty much one of the only Android phones that still works on the MediaNet plan.
The International Galaxy S3 and the International HTC One X have been swept a long time ago. I am sure it will be the same with the S4.
Sorry to say, but you will probably get put on a smartphone plan not long after you put in your microSIM card.

Dang it, well it looks like I will have to get the Verizon S4 then at full or cross upgrade. Thanks for the heads up, could have had a 500 dollar data bill or more.
I was using the i-9300 S3 on AT&T's medianet plan for a while and never got flagged. This was last year though. I just don't see the point when I have their LTE everywhere.
I have been on the unlimited 3g for $10 pan on 3 smartphones now. Most recently the S3 i9300 for 9 months. Never got flagged.
Not 5 hours after putting my SIM into my brand new i9500 S4 did I receive an email saying I was 'upgraded' to a smartphone data plan. That really sucks.
Anyone know how to fix it? If there is a fix. A different APN? Spoofing a non-smart imei number?
If not I can't justify the unsubsidized price of the octacore version and pay $20 more a month in data....

Is this an IMEI thing or a microsim thing?
I know AT&T supposedly does sweeps by IMEI, but it's just weird that it only seems that phones that use MicroSims are the ones that are affected.
Anybody try cutting their old regular SIM card to see if they still got flagged?
^ I know that's kinda a stupid question, but it's just weird that Micro Sim phones seems to be the phones that get flagged...

Wow.. That's interesting. I've been using my international i9100 since almost launch, and I've been fine. *knock on wood*
I was thinking about upgrading to the i9300 just because I've seen many say that they used the i9300 with no problems.
I'd much rather go i9500, but it appears that EVERYONE gets dinged as soon as they put their new Sim on those.
Also anyone know about Canadian phones?
I've been using a Bell Atrix since launch on and off with no problems too.
TIA for any help!...

Which Note 3 should I buy ?

My family has account with Verizon, and I live 1/2 year overseas in Asia where it has only 3G ( atm, no 4G/ LTE yet) . Also, I plan to use prepaid number sometimes like from Tmobile, H20wireless, Ptel or whatever for 2nd number/backup whenever I am in the States.
So, which version of Note 3 should I buy ? the international N9005 or the Verizon version ( no problem to have another line with them to have a primary number for myself ) ? or even Tmobile/ATT version ? Of course, I want to have fastest internet speed in US. TIA

If you want to use a prepaid simcard your basically forcing yourself into a non verizon N3. If you use verizon N3 you can simswap overseas but not domestically. If you want total freedom, N9005 but then you cannot use verizon.

I just got a Verizon note 3 and was told that it was not unlocked for use in the United states. I complained to Verizon that I paid the whole Cosy of the phone up front and that didn't want a contract. They told me that it is not possible to unlock the phone from Verizon wireless. Come to find out that a att sim, t-mobile works just fine. I'm so confused as to why my phone is unlocked here in the states and afar?
Can anyone help me to understand this issue.?

[Q] Note 4 for straight talk?

Just wondering what will be the easiest way to get a Note 4 that will work with straight talk. I'm sick of paying 100+ dollars a month with US cellular and was thinking of just buying a note 4 when it comes out for full price and setting it up with straight talk.
Do I just buy an unlocked GSM version of the Note 4 or do I need a ATT version? I know I need to change some settings ect to make it work. I obviously would want it to be LTE and have everything work (phone, MMS, etc).
Sorry if this is a newb question.
Thanks for the help!
Straight talk uses GSM and CDMA from various networks, so you have to check where you are located. I'm getting the att version or unlocked and putting a cricket sim in it. Can't beat the new 10gb unlimited talk text plan for 55 with auto pay no taxes or fees. I get good reception since they are att but the data is limited to 8mb downloads which is fine for me.
You need the T-mobile version. If history repeats itself, it will work with both the GSM Straight talk sims (Tmobile/ATT) as the S4, S5, and Note 3 has. The international version won't get all the bands you need and the ATT version removed some bands in the Note 3. ATT is shady like that plus it will be locked down tighter than a drum.
BTW, don't even bother with a CDMA sim. It runs off of sprint most likely and we all know how horrible that is.
So basically I need an unlocked GSM version. My wifes GS2 is GSM because I think straight talk uses ATT towers in this area (Wisconsin).
So would I be better off getting a Tmobile, ATT or just an unlocked GSM version (non international so I can use LTE) if I plan on at least rooting?
And I'm assuming Amazaon will have unlocked GSM versions of the note 4 for sale when it comes out? Also, do need to worry about bands/frequencies or will any US unlocked GSM note 4 work?
Thanks for the input and help guys!

Ya, the international version is not an option here in the US. The carriers are moving to voice over lte and the international version won't have the correct LTE bands or at least they didn't on the previous samsung devices. The Tmobile version will work on ATT and Tmobile straight talk sims with full LTE compatibility if history repeats itself.
The international versions used to be great here in the US in the Note 1 era but with the introduction of LTE on frequencies not wildly used in Europe, you can't do that anymore. Samsung has never made a "US" unlocked version of the Note so it doesn't exist. Only the international versions.
So I should get a Tmobile note 4. How would I go about getting it unlocked so I can use it with straight talk?
Thanks
Also, how do I go about buying a Tmobile note 4 (when they come out) if I don't have a contract with them? Can I just go in there and buy one for full retail or how does that work?
tmobile doesn't have contracts, and they wont sell you a phone unlocked unless you have been a customer with them for a certain period of time
Does anyone know roughly how much the note 4 will cost? Thanks

Yup, just go in there and buy one and use cellunlocker.net. If they won't sell you one without knowing someone with tmobile or having an account yourself, keep in mind that there are no contracts, so as with the note 3, you can sign up and cancel it at any time and keep the phone.
Reference this thread if you have questions. A lot of it applies to the Note 4 as well.

Ordering ATT version this weekend
I am ordering ATT unactivated, unlocked Galaxy Note 4 this weekend. With the One Plus, One, I just exchanged the sim card from Nexus 5 into One Plus, One on StraightTalk.
Ok this is what I'm thinking, please let me know if this will or will not work.
I think I'm going to preorder the note 4 through best buy, a verizon version. If I trade in any working phone I will get a $200 gift card.
My questions are: If I don't have service with Verizon, can I still preorder a note 4 from Bestbuy? If so, will it be locked? If so, will they unlock it for me to use with a different carrier?
I have confirmed that my US cellular note 2 is compatabile with straight talk, because the phone hasn't been released yet, is it wrong to assume that a verizon note 4 should also work with straight talk?
Obviously I need to use a straight talk SIM card and adjust some settings so data and everything work.
Thoughts? Will it work?
You have nothing to fear or be weary of!

Okay, I'm going to make this very simple for you. I have been with straight talk since the days when having a flip phone were still cool. Besides the rare bad customer service (boo hoo) straight talk is amazing! Ever since I joined the Android phone race (I began with the LG thrill), I have used a straight talk sim. I have only ever used at&t because they're bigger and more reliable in most cases than T-Mobile. All you do is you buy an at&t phone, I did this with my Thrill, then my Galaxy s2 skyrocket and now my recently purchased Galaxy Note 4, which I'm using to type this! I paid it full price from Amazon, got 2 year insurance (accidental included) from Assurant Solutionsavailable at amAmazonccheckout for a total of $923. Then all you do is you go to a walmart and purchasean at&t compatible sstraighttalk sim or you can korder one from straighttalksim.com for like $7. The new straight talk at&t compatible Sims do support 4g LTE, I'm using it now, on speedtest it shows me about 222-25mbps download and 10+ mbps upload. In short, straight talk is great oI'm the unlimited everything plan, I spend $50.16 after taxes, which is automatically debited from your debit card if you choose to enroll in auto refill. Also, the play store has straight talk apps, the My Account app, and the Data Settings app. The data settings app will walk you through the settings you need to change to make it easy on you. Then, all you do is reboot your phone, and viola! You've got unlimited at&t 4g LTE! It's amazing, and you'll feel relieved at the price and saving over $1,200 over 2 years by paying full price and going the straight talk route. Way better than a 2 year contract, ill never do one of those! So yeah, straight talk is perfect for my at&t Galaxy note 4,worked right out of the box, no hassle, no need to unlock the phone, everything works as it should, even MMS! I hope I helped you, and I'm sorry for the long reply but if I was in your shoes, I'd want piece of mind too!

You get 3gb unlimited @ lte speeds. If you go over 3gb over 30 days (which I have NEVER done, except for back when they only offered 2gb) the they slow you down to 2g speeds like edge if you use at&t. Don't fearthis llimitation. It offers more data than the bug carriers 2gb and like I said, with everyday use here and there, I barely reach 2gb used, much less 3gb!

Could you link the exact page from Amazon where you purchased your Galaxy Note 4? I want to make absolute certain that I get the right phone to use with straight talk. I assume it needs to be AT&T factory unlocked? Does it need to be the international model? If you could link the actual phone you got working on straight talk then it would make me feel more comfortable with making sure I get exactly what I am looking for.
Thanks!

Type amazon.com and then add the rest of the link that Ippasted. This forum doesn't allow me to post links yet.
It is $825.99 and you get free shipping and no tax, and the option to add insurance.

Thank you very much, I figured it needed to be factory unlocked to work with Straight talk.
