[Q] PDANet Autoconnect? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way to have a Nexus 7 automatically connect to a device running PDANet/FoxFi over bluetooth any time both devices are within range of each other? I'm looking to put my Nexus in my car and want them to connect every time I get in so I can stream Pandora/Spotify etc.

[Q] Nexus 7 Bluetooth Details

I am considering to pair the Nexus 7 to my phone for internet connection. I know that my phone (Motorola XT894; Droid 4) supports Bluetooth 4.0 LE + EDR.
I know that WiFi tether is a real battery drain plus it always has to be enabled in order for it to work, so I was hoping that I could do get some kind of half-decent speeds when tethering through bluetooth, but I haven't been able to find the exact specs of the Bluetooth supported by Nexus 7.
I have read in the teardown about the bluetooth chipset, but I'm not sure if everything is enabled.
Can anybody provide more details on Bluetooth for Nexus 7?
bluetooth 4.0
nexus 7 also has bluetooth 4.0
Is Bluetooth tethering more battery efficient? Might try it from my HTC Desire if it's possible once the tablet arrives. I imagine I will need a third-party app as I only have USB and Wi-Fi Hotspot tethering options.

I'm not sure if it's more power efficient, but it does claim to operate in a "Low power" mode (I'm not sure if all bluetooth 4 devices are operating in this mode or not). Doesn't hurt to try of course!
It may only work for now between Nexus 7 devices, but Android Beam sounds really neat. Bring two units close together, and NFC performs the Bluetooth pairing. Sort of an auto-connect. Data transfer is all then done over Bluetooth.
Bluetooth LE on Nexus 7 does *NOT* see Bluetooth LE devices
Just got a Bluetooth LE heart rate monitor and the Nexus 7 can't see it at all.
FWIW, the Samsung S3 can't either.
You have to wonder how much testing people did
Bt tether is very light in battery consumption terms.
At office I connect my htc to pc in pass through mode, then I share this connection through bt, after 8h the battery of the nexus7 is still at 85%, on phone side I can keep it in tether mode the whole day without significant battery usage .
another plus is that carrier can't detect the tethering.
Some apps (i.e. sky tvguide) can't detect any connection, in fact there are some apps that check if a 3g or wifi connection is active before open any tcp connection.

Tethering - wifi bluetooth or USB ??

ok there are tethering threads but i would like to figure out for sure the best of the 3 options relating to tethering from an ANDROID phone to the NEXUS 7.
wifi is easy and fast connection, bluetooth less so - but both eat the battery on the phone.
so usb tether cable connection seems like it could be the most efficient method, but i cannot find much relating to usb tethering to a tablet or how the N7 would fair. maybe you guys that know will explain that the battery usage would be the same as wifi or worse or something. please inform!
surely its possible?
the only post i found was a rom changing complex solution.
i'm hoping to hook up a cable, launch an app on the N7, set android phone to usb tether and off i go...
i just the personal hotspot on the iphone for tethering, but would be interested in learning how to do it via bluetooth DUN
WiFi hotspot is an absolute battery killer on a phone. I've only briefly tried Bluetooth tethering but so far it looks great on battery usage.
Basically install "FoxFi" to the phone, and "PDANet Tablet" to the Nexus 7. Enable Bluetooth DUN via FoxFi, and then on PDANet pair up the two devices.
For USB tethering you'd probably need cable with mini-usb on both ends, I've no idea if this exists, and whether it would actually work.
Or get an Xperia S, update to ics and you have blue tooth tethering out of the box.

You can enable bluetooth, wifi, and usb tethering using this solution
I use tethering between the galaxy nexus and the nexus 7 on the train. Wireless works far better as Bluetooth disconnects each time signal is lost...uses more battery tho

I rock bluetooth tether all day every day. My phone is a Galaxy Nexus and it would loose connection whenever the phone would go into deep sleep. On the market there is a program called bluetoothkeepalive This forces a wake lock when ever there is a bluetooth connection to the phone. For email, web, some basic google apps this is a perfect solution for me. I have even streamed Pandora with the connection. After a 9 hour work day I have ~70% battery left on my phone.

Sharing Bluetooth via my iMac, connected with Nexus 7 (NOT WORKING??)

So, yeah. As the title says. I've setup a Bluetooth PAN so that I can share my internet connection with my Nexus 7 and iPod Touch.
The iPod Touch pairs and just works automatically. With the Nexus 7 I have to go to Settings and a tick a box that tells me to use the internet from the device the Nexus 7 is paired with, my iMac.
Long story short, it doesn't work and I'm just dead confused. And incredibly annoyed

[Q] How do I get the Nexus 7 to work as a car Bluetooth phone?

So I have my car set up as a Wifi hotspot thanks to my work-provided cellphone.
I'd like to use my personal Nexus 7, Wifi tethered to my work cellphone, to make phone calls.
Can anyone provide any suggestions? I've tried using GrooveIP, and it will play incoming call audio through my car's speakers, but it appears to only use the Nexus's internal mic rather than the car's mic.
Thanks for any tips!
What exactly are you trying to connect to, the car or your mobile phone's hotspot? Is it your car or phone that has mobile hot spot? and if so, does it support infrastructure or adhoc wireless tethering? Need more information before I can try to find a work around for you.
In most cases, if you have a Wifi hotspot you should be able to connect just as you would to your home network. Sometimes adhoc wifi networks aren't support by certain devices, such as the first gen Kindle Fire tablet.
Edit: Reread your post, it's impossible. The car's Bluetooth won't recognize the Nexus 7 as a phone, it sees it as it is, a tablet. It would be like trying to connect a Bluetooth capable keyboard to your car, the car doesn't understand why it needs a keyboard, so it doesn't tether. There may be a work-around to this issue, but I know little about Bluetooth tethering. That work-around may require root access on your Nexus 7.

There are certain profiles a car's Bluetooth receiver will work with. For hands free calling, it is HFP. Since your Nexus 7 is not a mobile phone, it will not have this profile for the car to communicate with. However, the tablet can be connected to stream BT audio, hence why you can get the audio through the car's speakers but not have the mic working.

Sorry - I want it to connect to the car. But, as Asus_USA says, that might not be possible with a tablet...

[Q] [HELP] Nexus 7 3g bluetooth tethering (as a host) to another android device

[Q] [HELP] Nexus 7 3g bluetooth tethering (as a host) to another android device
Dear all
I have got two devices:
Nexus 7 3g (2012), system 4.4 KRT16S, and it is rooted and as taughted by a post in this forum, I flashed a zip file to enable WIFI and bluetooth tethering.
Another device is Nexus 5
I want to make N7 as a host or say modem to share its internet connection to N5.
I want to use bluetooth tethering because it saves battery. What I did is paired N7 and N5, and on N7 in "settings"-"Tethering and hotspot", I enabled bluetooth tethering.
But on N5, in bluetooth, I click paired Nesus 7 icon, there is no profile icon, and no use for internet access check box.
Does any one how to make it work?
I know how to use a phone as host and let N7 to access internet via phone. It works well. But I really need to make N7 as a host and use bluetooth tethering.
Thank you very much!
Please help.
Has anyone successfully did this? Thanks a lot!
I also tried with another device, after paired with nexus 7, it also cannot see bluetooth profile where we can enable internet sharing.
