optimus g bootloader has been unlocked but so far not much dev
What? You want the guys to port over the LG software on to the N4? I don't think it'll happen.

im asking in this forum to hopefully get some dev involvement, the g forum is pretty dead right now
with the unlocked bootloader the att version is nicer in my opinion with lte and sd card slot
thanks in advance if anyone can help, also willing to donate
Sell it and buy an N4.
Since the OG is about as popular as a fart in a spacesuit, no real chance of AOSP/CM.
And, since LG haven't launched the thing globally, even less chance.

I don't know about that, RC gets LG devices shipped to him, and he's some sort of freaky genius!

Depends what you want from the phone really.
From a hardware point of view, the Optimus. Software point of view depends on the devs.
I'd go with the LG. There's no real difference between the Nexus and the Nexus S so i don't really see the point
EDIT:
Just realised there's another thread exactly the same as this one. Post in the already existing thread next time, rather than starting a new one.

Currently using the LG Optimus L5. I like the phone,, others (OFCOURSE) may think different but I actually got used to this one. Is the Nexus 4 really worth upgrading to? I don't even know the Europian price... as far as I know its 300$ US and Europe hasen't even released a date nor price. If someone please can tell me why I should upgrade than i would be gratefull ,
PS:
I know the Nexus 4 is way better but what makes it better.

Hey guys,
Just a quick question. When the Nexus 4 was released, it was pretty much identical to the Optimus G. People figured out how to flash the Nexus 4 stock firmware onto the G, and inturn the G turned into a Nexus 4, and received all Nexus 4 updates. Do you guys think this will be possible with the Nexus 5 and G2? I've just bought a G2 because I am too impatient to wait for the Nexus 5, and I'm hoping I'll be able to do it
no, n5 has different hardware

How so? Same CPU, same amount of ram, same res screen, pretty much everything is the same except the camera and the G2 has an IR blaster...

The main board, kernel and other smaller parts such as sensors and memory will be different chips (most likely) so although the N5 software should be a, relatively, easy port to the G2 I would strongly recommend you don't try flashing your G2 with any software for the N5 unless it is specifically advised to do so.
You can't ever flash anything without modification or porting of some kind. Will it boot likely but not everything is likely top work either.

Im not entirely sure it would even boot. Either way you have a very high chance of causing some kind of software brick which although is fixable can be a long and annoying process.
I still having figured out why people are drooling over boring aosp...it doesn't even out bench stock but maybe 4.4 will be light and fluffy as promised

There's just something about AOSP that I love, but not entirely sure what it is. I've had every Nexus device except the Nexus One, and I've loved them all, and they always seem to be the devices I keep the longest
There's high resemblance between CM and the stock Nexus 4, with CM having the upper hand with features the stock roms are lacking (e.g. the latest added call blocking). So, we're in good hands don't worry.

You can have AOSP on the G2 without needing the nexus firmware. And for the Nexus 5 firmware to work on the G2... it needs pretty much every inch of hardware to be the same... not just the main parts. Look at the development forums... theres already AOSP based ROMs

Only for the American variants. Unfortunately us in Europe are stuck with very little choice in that department at the moment. And all because stupid American carriers require different hardware variants. :crying:

Plenty of AOSP Roms for the D802. D800 just got CM and D803 just got Carbon. It's just a snowball effect, well be getting even more as time goes on.

I hope so, at the moment it seems all the American G2s are having a party while us here in Europe are a little high and dry.
I don't wish to be hypocritical, if i were intelligent enough I would develop my own ROMS but i find all that way to complex for me xD
Just purchased a Nexus 5 from Play. I'm retiring the Epic for good. It's been a beast of a phone to last from launch until now. I didn't see a point in investing in another GS2 battery for such an old phone. So time to drop Sprint and move on over to T-Mobile for a hopefully better network experience.
I'll be lingering around for the next few weeks until my order arrives. I'll continue to assist in Q/A as often as I can. Have a good one all.
Cheers. :good:
Lucky Nexus 5 guy... Good luck! You'll fall in love with KitKat (I already am).

Hey dude, how's your N4 treating you? Things have picked up a LOT over here in the LG Optimus G land, but still waiting for a 4.4 build. >_< Its coming, though!

Nice hijack, lol.
Wondering if someone I'd planning to convert the G2 into the Nexus 5 as what took place with the optimus g and the nexus 4? I ordered the 32gb nexus 5 and am considering a trade to the G2 but will not give up the benefits if KitKat to do so. Heard on all about android podcast that the Google now integration is hardware based similar to what is found with the moto x
I bought the optimus g knowing that ROMs would never be an issue between it and the nexus and I was correct.... So does anyone know when this may or may not become the nexus?

This is not dev.
The google now integration isn't hardware specific. I could use the okay google on the kitk kat launcher on my Verizon galaxy s3. Also you can get the GEL to work flawlessly on the G2. Requires root.
Only reason I posted it here wookie was due to the completed thread being here on the Optimus G

If there is a known irc chat for the g2 perhaps I'll address my question there. Anyone know?
Sent from my BN Nook HD using xda app-developers app
This question has been asked multiple times in recent days. I'm not an expert in ROM development, but from what I've read in these other threads an N5 to G2 conversion won't be as simple as it was with the N4 and Optimus G. Evidently there are just enough differences between the N5 and G2 to make this quite difficult.
