Hello everyone. I've got a question. I've been having issues with my keyboard. It seems to not register certain letters when I type. I have an officially unlocked streak running an official 2.2 rom. I have NO idea how to fix this. I've tried various keyboards and they all have the same issue (except for the default android keyboard, which I don't like too much).
I saw this link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848487). I'm not sure about anything. I have no idea what baseband I have or anything like that, nor if I have to be rooted or not. I'm so very confused about EVERYTHING Android. I've had this device for a total of a week. I'm not sure if anyone can give me a hand?
Have you ever had this issue? When I type messages it sometimes misses letters (but they register but not on the screen), for example, the letter jumps up (as if it knows it's being pressed), but then doesn't register on the screen. For example I can type:
"this is an example"
and it would come out "his is an exmple" or something like that.
I've downloaded multiple keyboards and they have the same issue (some more than others) and I'm not sure how to fix this. Any ideas? Suggestions?
Thanks!
Kent.
I figure out im portrait mode is better than landscape. But i don't know why. Must be bug..

I've fixed this. I've downloaded the image directly from dell and then reflashed it. Not only do I get higher benchmarks but I also got rid of that pesky typing issue. Hehe

Hello Folks,
I have come across an Article in BBC News : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-12138790
It points out at a potential bug in Android OS which causes messaging problems. I have personally noticed this issue. I am a heavy texting person and sometimes when I open a Conversation Thread just after I send a message and before the Conversation App Refreshes, I am pointed to the wrong Conversation Thread. Noticed it many times, I thought it might be an issue with Samsung (As Always), but I was wrong. Interesting to note that Galaxy S is also affected.
The above issue Pinpointed :
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=9392#c1460
EDIT: Also noticed sometimes that when I send a message to person A, and I get a new message from person B, when I click on the New Message Notification from the Notification bar, I am sometimes presented with the Thread of person A rather than Person B.
Have to see how Sammy Responds.
Anyone Noticed Similar issues?
Thanks!
Interesting...
I had a different bug on JG1 fw with SMSes, but it had been solved with upgrade.
I'm guessing you're using stock messaging app and the problem is with stock app only?
Personally I didn't use stock app for a long time, I'm using Handcent and have no such problem.
Have you actually experienced that the message was sent to a wrong person?
Yeah Endgadget did a piece on it in December.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/31/android-still-has-horrible-text-messaging-bugs-thatll-get-you-f/
And on the 5th they posted about the fix

I noticed this when I was on 2.1 and using the stock messaging app.... Got me into a bit of trouble once or twice! I thought maybe it was fixed in 2.2, but maybe not... I just don't notice is as I use ChompSMS now, as it's features suit me better.
Ever since I upgraded my 3g Xoom to 3.1 (using BDR's flashable image, thanks again!) I have an issue when using apostrophes in communications. When I write "I'll" for example, it looks fine on my screen. However, once I send that email to it's recipient it translates to "I'll" on their end.
Is this new to 3.1 or is it a known issue? I have never seen it before.
I saw a couple posts referencing "'" but not in this manner.
Anyone else experiencing this?
Conspiracy Theory: Every fifth grade English teacher in the U.S. partnered with Google to, once and for all, stop our use of contractions. *dum dum dum*
yes, i noticed it too. oddly, it seems to only happen when i reply to emails originally composed in html. i noticed it last week for the first time but i don't recall if it was before or after the upgrade to 3.1. it is definitely there in 3.1 though.
Yeah, I'm not 100% sure when it started but I'm sure I never noticed it before 3.1.
It's annoying trying to not use apostrophes in emails

I just noticed this...very annoying.
did you modify any system files? what keyboard are you using?
Not extra mods beyond the flashed 3.1 from bdr. Now running the new 1.6 tiamat as well and still have the issue.
I'm using thumbkeyboard but used that in the past without noticing the issue.
I have noticed something new. When I view the Xoom General board using the XDA app and see a post with a quote or apostrophe in the 1 line preview its replaced with ' or ". However, when I open the thread it is displayed correctly.
Very odd.
Edit: you guys see "' or "." above? I entered that as """ above and it changed to " when I clicked submit...
Is this an interpretation problem with HTML codes?

I don't have a solution but I can validate the same issue.
I am not experiencing the issue. I just sent myself a test email using the gmail client and used ' a lot, but it showed up properly on both the xoom and on the computer I sent it to.
Oh, and I'm on BRD's 3.1.
keyboard changes
I also noted that the colon : symbol is gone from the keyboard when typing an address using the browser. For example the "About:debug" command could not be typed as the key was gone. I had to go into a search box to type the command and then cut and paste it into the address bar.
Another google conspiracy....
Next to the space bar in the browser. Select the URL bar and the forward slash button immediately to the right button gets the colon as a shift selection. Just long press the that button and you get about:debug entered with no problems.

validated.
Only noticed it today. In gmail. Grr. Stock. Rooted. 3.1
Yeah, it has become increasingly annoying to me.

Apostrophe Bug, Android 3.1
Anything out there besides people who also notice it? Need a fix, not company.
Everybody experiencing this issue please go to code.google.com and search for "android 16873" and then STAR it so that the priority will go up. This bug is killing me. Thanks!
P.S. If anybody could please repost the actual link I'd greatly appreciate it. I don't have enough posts.

I was getting this issue in some emails to my mate. I replied with thumb keyboard, then replied without it. And without thumb keyboard didn't get the issue. (I used stock)

Hi everyone,
This issue was tracked internally on the team and has been fixed in our codebase. It will go out with in a future system update. Thanks to everyone for their patience.
I just wanted to clarify a few things and repeat what some people on this thread have already said:
- the issue exhibits itself only when you reply to a message, and not when composing new mails
- the issue exhibits itself if you are using an Exchange 2007 (or newer) account
- the issue should not be fixed after a reboot
- the issue should not be seen with IMAP, POP3, or Exchange 2003 accounts
If you are seeing an issue which does not fit the above criteria, you may be seeing something else, and it would be useful to identify your device type and version, as well as precise steps to reproduce the issue on a separate issue entry.
Thanks!

There's your fix... 3.1.1 or 3.2 probably
This issue still hasn't been fixed as it happens all the time on my Xoom which I only bought a few weeks ago. Standard out of the box Xoom. Using MS exchange email client. It works fine on GMail.
The double-letter glitch with the stock Android keyboard (and with other keyboards that have adopted the code to the stock Gingerbread keyboard, like Better Keyboard 8) is becoming obnoxious.
It happens so frequently, and not even when typing that fast either. It seems to happen only with the first letter of words... "like tthis" for example, but it'll also happen with the first two letters of a word... "like ththis." It's especially ridiculous when this happens with only two letter words, like... "I'm going toto the movies."
It's insane how frequent these glitches occur. And I'm not alone. A search in other forums of other phones running the stock Android keyboard will show threads about this exact issue as well.
A while back I filed a report to Google. If anybody is also experiencing this, please star the report, share, and even add your own experiences if you wish: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=14755
I even made a video a while back to show Google: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUZdvr6Pdjk
It's discussed more in length on this old thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11403637&postcount=168
This glitch has got to be addressed and fixed.
I have this problem as well. Have left a reply on the Google report. Really hope it gets fixed as its beginning to spoil my experience with this great phone!
Yea this is really annoying. When I was using Swift Key for a while it wasn't noticeable but now that I am back on the regular keyboard it is annoying as hell.
Interesting. I cannot reproduce on my device.

I hhaaave problem withh my ssony Xperia z2. Thhiss iss how it typesş. Thhe middlle row types twice.
Today is the first time, since the Google Assistant update, that I've really text anyone.... I tend to use the voice to text feature on my keyboard for long text/posts. So when I use SwiftKey, I press the microphone and it brings up the "Google voice to text" and I'll say what I want, but when I look at it - t's in there 2 or 3 times?? I noticed it first in Facebook Messenger, then when texting my wife.....So it's not just one app.
I just switched to Gboard (Google Keyboard) and it does the same thing.... I switched to Swype and it's fine, but Swype uses it's own voice to text software (Dragon) instead of Google.
Like I said, this just started today and I'm not sure if it has to do with the Google Assistant update, or just something screwy is going on with Google?
Anyone else getting this?
[UPDATE]
I've found several people having this same issue:
http://androidforums.com/threads/vo...ce-to-text-keeps-repeating-sentences.1124892/
[UPDATE]
Well, it seems to have fixed itself over-night?
A little more insight into what it was actually doing....
When I would press the microphone (on my keyboard) and speak, it would put three variations of what you said in the field you were adding text to....For example, when I said the phrase "Testing one (comma) two (period).....It would come out like this:
Testing one, two. Testing 1 comma 2 period testing 1, 2.

The error seems to be that it is typing out every single possible interpretation of what you're saying instead of the most likely one.
Like I said, it seems to be fixed now? But I am in a different location now (work vs home). I'll have to check it this evening too.

Thanks for finding the thread where other people also had that issue. Various complaints were popping up in ROM threads for other devices and it's NOT a ROM issue.
Replied by mistake to this topic.....Disregard this reply :highfive:
