need some help with a weird issue - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

ive started having wifi issues lately on all roms with it just sitting at obtaining ip address
ive done everything i can think of from restarting the router
to flashing back to winmo and then starting from scratch
with task 29 and so on
but the same thing happens stuck at obtaining ip address
so this morning while i was messing around i found a backup i had made
of sundawgs cm7 rom, so for hoots and hollers i flashed the backup
and viola wifi works fine
so i tried other roms cm9 and cm10 as well as sense 3.5 but all where stuck at obtaing ip address
flashed the cm7 backup and wifi still works lol
does any one have any clue as to why i can get it working on cm7 and not on
cm9 cm10 or sense 3.5
any ideas or help are highly appreciated
Thanks

Some sort of kernel update? Maybe the fact that you were flashing an older ROM meant it had an older kernel which didn't give you issues? I guess you could try flashing a CM7 ROM then flashing one of the older Tytung or Dorimanx kernels and checking if WiFi works. Tbh I highly doubt it will but I guess it's worth a shot.

yea i was thinking that since the cm7 rom that wifi works on uses fikret kernal
ive seriuosly tried everything i can think of and its driving me craxy lol

I sometimes have this issue and I fix it by setting a static IP address, but a few weeks ago I stumbled across this. I haven't tried it though since I haven't faced the problem recently.
Please search before posting and title your thread descriptively.

that fix didnt work as i dont have any of those files
it says to look for

Try using the files from /vendor/firmware that has bcm4329, and the wpa supplicant from /system/bin from the working ROM on others that don't work. Have you also tried different kernels (tytung, marc1706, securecrt)?
Anything on the logcat?

yep tryed all 3 kernals
i will try those files and get a logcat if they dont work
edit...ok that didnt work either wifi now it says cant connect to network
should i start logcat from boot or when should i start it

I think the logcat should be recorded when you turn on wifi and try to connect.
A temporary fix is the static IP I stated earlier. It could be something on your SD-card btw, since ALL the roms are having the problem.

doing a sd card format now and see if that helps at all

ok here is the logcat

with static IP you need DNS of google set.
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
Calm down

no they have been checked
so i formatted my sdcards earlier
and started from task29 and so forth
and this is the strange part i can get it to connect normally
on cm7 roms and sundawgs tbd v15 lite rom and his tbd legendary rom
but not on any of his other versions of tbd roms
and still nothing on cm10
even reflashed both of your test roms and nothing and even tried xylos aokp b40 rom and nothing
its like the phones are picking and choosing when wifi wants to connect lol
im at a loss now
guess it may be time to hang up the hd2s and save up for a new adventure
and thanks for helping

Before you give up, maybe we're looking in the wrong place?
Maybe it's not the phone? why? because I have 3 routers in my house.
On some ROMs, I can connect to one, the others give me "obtaining IP address", and I have to set a static IP for them. And some ROMs, work flawlessly with all three routers.
I know this might sound stupid, but have you tried to connect to another router or network?

If it's finding the AP, it sounds more like a router problem.
Do you use MAC address filtering? If so, you'll need to add the new MAC address given by android. (Settings->About Phone->Hardware Information). Should usually begin 00:90:4C:xx:xx:xx
I had a similar problem when running it from SD via magldr, it seemed to do it every time I did a clean boot.
I solved my issue by removing the profile, turning off wifi and then turning back on and letting it find AP again and re-entering key, it then connects fine and this has worked multiple times and after doing it never had problem again until clean install.
Not sure if that will solve your issue but worth a try.
That worked thank you

i flashed the rom 4 or 5 times and with full wipe , wipe cache devilk and eveything but nothing work.
i was editing the tiwlan but the wifi dosnt work.

You mean you are using the phone and suddenly it just disconnect? Or when you are not using the phone?

i mean i turn on the phone, wifi works 5 or 10 minutes, after stop worklin,,, i thin the problem is the refresh , when I have the modem close to me,the signal is full but when I have the modem away from me the signal is the same.
the wifi signal not refresh i think thats the problem
as the signal is not refresh does not tell me I'm disconect just tells me that the network is not available
clear the history of wifis i dont think it will solve your problem but give it a try
i did it but dosnt work, i tried everything i read and nothing work,
Maybe it is a ROM bug. Not much people use this ROM, cant really confirm. Why dont you change to Gingerbread ROMs?

Well even I'm having the same problem but not just with PAC ROMs...WiFi doesn't work on paranoid android, aokp as well...
Right now I'm running CyanogenMod 11 which is quite stable...have been using it for some time now without any issues...this, and the stock ROM are the only ones where WiFi works for me
If u found a fix please post it ...
My friend had the same problem, his phone could not connect my wifi, but mine could. If you have another phone with wifi try if you can connect.
Sometimes its not phones fault,I fixed my friends problem going to my routers page(192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 Depens what router you are using. )
So I went on routers page, went to Wifi settings and then changed the channel settings(From 01 channel to 04).
And then restarted router.
My friend was able to connect to it right away.
Note:This problem began to appear when he flashed custom rom.
Hope this works for you

Ditto here. Wifis greyed out on most Roms.Add Miui to this list also.. :-/ anyone know what's wrong.. ???
Absolutely NOT router related..
Running pa 4.0 beta here. No issues.
For those flashing KK roms, are you using the latest radio?
Fixed it!

Defy Wifi drops problem is driving me crazy, tried everything, plz help !

Hello guys,
I've been trying to fix wifi on my Defy since I got the phone a month ago and I'm starting to get really frustrated with this problem.
I usually just read, dont post on forums but I've tried alot of solutions found on this forum and others and. nothing has worked except flashing CM10/11 or SlimRom. Wifi doesn't work properly on stock ROM or MIUI so my guess is it's a framework problem which has been fixed on newer versions because as soon as I swith to android 4.0 or above, I have no problem, but these ROMs eat up alot of the phones resources and I would like to have a more fluent experience so I want to stay on MIUI.
Any other defive connects fine to my Asus router.
So on any gingerbread ROM (stock/custom) wifi works fine a few minutes and then the signal drops and disconnects. After that I can't see any wifi networks in range. and only works again if I enable/disable wifi or activate/deactivate airplane mode, but it drops again after a few minutes.
I've tried changing every setting in the router(changed channels, frequencies, disabled 802.11n mode, changed to g mode, etc), or in the defy related, nothing works unless I flash an android 4.x.
Plz help, I'm desperate.
Thx.

One idea: try getting the Wi-Fi related files from a CM11 rom and use them in a CM7 one. Maybe system/etc/wifi ?

Can you do that? Has anyone tried it? I mean I suppose you mean the wifi drivers, are they compatible with a gingerbread system if they were designed for android 4.x? And if so where/which arethese files? and do I simply replace them like copy/paste?

I used to replace gps.conf with a version that worked better in my country. I never tried with wi-fi files. You could copy-paste them, but I think you should repair permission afterwards.
