Anyone know what the solution is to this problem?
When I plug in my NC to my computer using a standard micro-USB cable, whatever state the battery is in, it instantly indicates 100%.
For example, right now it is plugged into the computer and the battery was at abou 73%/3900mV when I plugged it in, and it instantly indicated 100% (still 3900mV).
The only solution I find is to just let it sit and charge for hours until it's back to 4200mV and then reset the battery stats using BatteryCalibration app.
Why is it doing this? Can I stop it?
Thanks!
I recently updated to encore 253 and have noticed the same thing. I don't remember this occuring with 177. From what I gather there probably won't be anymore CM7 updates as all resources are now being devoted to CM9.
Well I am not running the nightlies. This has happened with two builds, the 1/13 build I am running now and the 12/13 build (or whatever the mid-Dec build was) it happened a couple of weeks ago.
Strange.
I had a similar problem with a broken cable. Do you have another micro-usb cable that you can try to see if it's the stock cable? New cable fixed my issue.
It's happened with two different cables. Possible they are both bad. One is the one I use with my phone all the time, it's never done this with my phone.
I've come across a problem using Rack's dualboot CM9. If the Nook Color's been running and the battery has run down, connecting plugging in the stock cable + charger results in a green light on the cable and the Nook not charging. After playing around for a bit I figured out that if I reboot it or keep the Nook off it will charge fine. If I reboot and charge, however, the battery percent indicator does not update until after I unplug the charger. If I try to charge it again after unplugging, the light stays green and refuses to charge as before, even though the battery is not at 100%.
I wanted to rule out this being a problem with the charger first, and it seems that way to me but my knowledge about the inner workings of the Nook are limited. Any help is appreciated!
I have the same problem yesterday, and I just rebooted and work well now, don't know what's wrong with it.
Last night I was charging my S4 in my car adapter, but noticed the cattery was still going down. I went home and plugged it into my AC (wall charger) and went to bed. The next morning the S4 was dead and couldn't charge. The only solution was to plug it in my computer and went an hour for it to get some charge back.
I have a root i337m running rootbox 4.1, and I went into TWRP to wiped the phone and installed the ROM again - no luck.
Is this a battery issue, a software issue or a whole device issue? Thanks.

I don't think its a rom issue. I tried charging via USB as well and had phone charging a few hours and it ate crap. So I only charge via AC outlet only. USB charges but at a very slow pace.

I made an error in the OP - I meant to say I left it to charge on the wall and I got nothing.
Right now, the charge light doesn't even come on if I plug it with AC.

Maybe see the results by changing the charger you're using?

I've tried 3-4 different chargers and cables, same issue. Charges slowly through PC,doesn't charge at all with AC. Did a factory reset after reverting to stock FW, no luck.

I doubt it's a ROM issue, but there's no harm in reverting back to stock to see the results (assuming you've backed it up). If it all fails, i think you should unroot and send it to Samsung for the warranty. Software problems are somewhat easier to fix here than hardware, so it may be the best option to let Samsung handle it.
I had similar problems with my Note 2 before and now with my S4. What I found was, sometimes the usb cable wasn't tightly plugged into the wall charger. Once I've made sure of this, I've been able to charge (AC) every time.
I found this article that indicates that the S4 is looking for special sauce on the D+D- pins.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6914/samsung-galaxy-s-4-review/2
Obviously the Galaxy S 4 will charge with any USB charger, but the charge time will simply be longer. Samsung uses a voltage divider and signals the presence of their own charger by sending 1.2-1.3 V across the D+ / D- pins, this is similar to what Apple does with 2.0 or 2.8 V across the pins for various USB chargers they've shipped over the years. This signaling is essentially Samsung's proprietary tablet charging signaling which they've employed on the Galaxy Note 2 and now SGS4, in fact the two use the same exact charger, so it's worth tossing out your old ones and getting the appropriate one to take advantage of the faster charging.
However I do not believe this to be 100% true. I think not all chargers will work..
I took a charger that is very vanilla (Wall charger but the D+D- pins are NC) and it works with the S3 and NEXUS7 but does not work with the S4.
This charger uses a stock USB cable so I took a wall charger that had gone bad but had a dedicated cable and hacked off the end and wired up my own cable...
That works! So it appears that the S4 will only charge properly with certain chargers that do something to the D+D- pins (either shorting them with a resistor like the article indicates
I then took a look at the cable I used to replace. It is a Motorola cable and it has the ID pin pulled high built into the cable... So I suspect that is required for the phone to work... But to fast charge it will need the special sauce indicated above!
Had the same issue and found the solutions which worked for me. Go into the developer mode and deactivate the usb debug mode.
Had the exact same issue. I took a soldering iron to my charging port on my phone. Problem solved. The ID pin had a bad joint.

I have a strange issue, my s4 is detected by pc, charges normally with usb ( wall or pc charge ) my battery is full but when I take the cable from microUSB port and s4 should work with the battery, turns off and consumes no battery, it's like refusing to use the battery and that it is full! battery checked on a sph l 720
I've tried installing other roms with safestrap but I still have the same problem, refuses to consume battery and while the battery is at 100% ,my s4 shows 0% if I disconnect the usb cable... game over. However, I can be on the safestrap menu for hours only with the battery, no problem, is a problem of rom I think but did not know how to fix it .. : (
I'm having the same issue as the original poster. The USB port is good, charges fine when connected to PC (although much slower because of different mVS). Have tried amidst everything and nothing fixes it. I've turned debugging mode off and back on, restore to backup, complete wipe and reinstall of 2 ROMs with and without apps, fix permissions, different kernels, different USB cables... The adaptor is in good condition. But when plugged in while on my phone doesn't recognize that's it's connected. Previously out would give a false charging reading. If off sometimes I got the grey bar battery but note is just vibrating every few seconds. Idk what to do...

I'd guess it's the charger. Get a new one

I had the same problem. S4 will recognize charger as USB charger, not AC. solution was to clean usb port connector, was some cloth covering wires. then restarted and worked ok
I am having trouble charging the phone the same way. I have reset the phone 3 times and still can't get a charge.
I have had ongoing charging issues.
My original micro USB charging cable stopped functioning after some time. I switched to another one that worked very well for a few months. Than that one stopped working. I would plug either one in and it wouldn't recognize. I finally wrote it off as a faulty micro USB port so I ordered a POGO cable.
I got the cable yesterday and it started charging immediately. I got up to about 37% and than charging stopped. I unplugged, replugged, rebooted, etc. I left it on the charger over night. It's consistantly loosing power. I even tried switching it off and than charging without being booted. The battery charging indicator would come on, show the charging animation than disappear and continue to die.
I'm getting quite frusterated at this point. I am running CM 10.2. I have a sneaky suspicion that the culprit might be a corrupted part of the rom. My next step is to try things like factory wipe or flashing a new version of a rom. If that doesn't work, I don't know what else to try.
Any ideas?
Solved
It turned out to indeed be some problem with the rom. After doing a factory reset, it started to charge in the correct direction. I'm now at 100%.
Out of curiousity, does anyone know what would happen to a rom to make it drain a batter, even when connected to a charger?

If for some reason it is using 100% of its CPU, the Nexus 10 can potentially draw more power than the microUSB or Pogo chargers can provide.
I have rooted phone.
with clock work 6.0.4.7
Installed Android L Preview ROM for Nexus 4
Everything runs fine.
Problem/Error.
While on charge it is showing charging on USB even while connected to the socket it should be Charging normal/ Ac Charger/ charging.
disadvantages: device heating up. Charging slow.
Turning of the phone.
Charging while turned off, starts charging then it reboots into the recovery. after few seconds.
Please need help.
FIXED.
Flashed 4.4.4 Nexus 4 stock rom.
everything working fine.
Rooted and had nothing wrong with the recoveries or anything the Android L rom i flashed had issues. waiting for a fix.
try a different charger or chord, most likely its one of those items fault.

Thanks for the reply bro.
Everything worked just fine before the root and the Rom installation. The charger and the chord works fine on other nexus 4. Used samsung s3 charger chord as well it detects it as "Charging via USB" not "Ac charger" and if i charfe after shutting down phone. It boots into the CMW it self after dew seconds and stays there. Device heating up both ways.
try a different charger. they go bad and often. if its not producing enough voltage, then the phone will see it as usb. itll see anything as usb if it doesnt provide enough volts/watts.

Did a reset from CMW now while turned on it detects as AC charger tho charging took long. Turn off it boots into the CMW recovery it self.
Me too, using the stock charger it will charge as USB; but when using car charger, it will charge as AC... stock ROM + kernel.... try different USB cable also same, I suspect is the charger having some problem...
