No chance mate.
Samsung won`t make updates to such "old" phones....
I'm agree with Lelex45, Samsung has forgotten this device... But there are a lot of "unofficial" very good rom here

Unfortunaly this won't happen. However like occ hio said, there are plenty of good custom roms. I own my i9001 now for 13 months, only the first couple of months of them I ran stock gingerbread from samsung. Never regretted that I turned to custom roms.
i think the custom roms that you can find here are a great solution
Yeah, get over it - JB custom ROMs are now for daily use IMHO, or you can just wait for the 3.0 kernel + few bugs fixed and it'll be close to perfection Cheers
Who cares whether they release it or not? Obviously the OP, but i doubt many others. We got the files, and the community. There's lots of custom ROMs that are better anyway..
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk 2
There are less roms than every body always says there are. For the most interesting android version (4.1) there's cm10, and variations based on that cm10 rom. If you find bugs in cm10 that annoy you, there is no use switching to an other rom.
I gave up the hope of an official update from samsung, but it would be nice if they could provide up to date drivers. But I really can't image they suddenly changed their attitude. Samsung is a hardware manufacturer and they see very little interest in software (quite common in Asia. People invest in stuff you can hold in your hands, not virtual stuff like software). But on the other hand, I gave up buying samsung stuff so can't really expect them to do anything for me
There really no chance for this petition!
They won't do it, they are so mean about new roms old devices or to it's modifications: s

I remember that a time ago in a German forum people send many requests for ics to Samsung like a petition but it had no use. I think they said the device wouldn't be popular enough but not sure...
I think Samsung won't release JB for I9001 too. But give the best support to CM10 team!
If Samsung would release JB for such "old" phones, they couldn't sell so much oft their new devices. Anyway, i'm using cm 10 on my S-Plus, and in really can say it's much smoother than my wifes S3 mini.
no chance for this to succeed

probly Samsung would get new libs for the GPU from Quallcom. That could be a great improvement to the performence. The current libs are buggy.
not possible

I'm using Custom Roms since 3 months and i love it. I think we don't need Samsung for giving us Jelly Bean, cause there are much more features for performance and style in our great Custom Roms.
So thank's our great developers for making this possible for us.:good::good::good:

Impossible Samsung never take us new software 4.1.2 we have to use only custom roms

Wat makes cynomod better than the original samsung firmware eeally? Is it coz its jus rooted and has a better theme? Can someone clarify this please?

I am not a big fan of cyanogen (well I wasn't when I was using htc' sense, not a big fan of TW) but I see it as a big step towards the community (if atinm really is just a cyanogen developer) and as a steppingstone to many different mods and custom roms once CM is up and running, I am also very pleased they releases sources early and chose as much as possible open hardware

It depends if you like touchwiz cyanogen probably sucks for you, I love HTC's sense and was never interested in running CM roms (I ran one for 15 minutes and quickly reflashed a sense rom)1 but if you don't care about these vendor customizations you can get roms without all the bloat.
For me the good thing is the galaxy sense team use CM as their base, so hopefully this means a quicker port of sense to the sgs2 too
I suppose this will bring wiimote functionality too?

That would be a AOSP rom, there is a work in progress build in the dev section right now.
CM7 is close to aosp, better most would say.

CM is based on AOSP or vanilla android. However it is pretty heavily modded and has a slew of features such as lock screen gestures, modding of system apps to include additional settings, support for additional file types etc. It's a nice ROM for sure but there are no guarantees it will be 'Faster'. Touchwiz 4.0 hardware accelerates some system apps such as the browser and homescreens/application drawer so a stock S2 may still feel 'Faster'.
Edit: As the above poster said, a pure stock ROM like the Nexus 1/S is in progress in the dev section, CM is far from vanilla android; an advantage for some and a disadvantage for others
This team just opened a thread in the dev section. Let's hope they will do some good work!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
It's not just the CM7 rom that's important
Slew of other custom roms such as miui are based on CM7. This will open the flood gate to modding hopefully
FYI AFAIK (yay acronyms) Samsung gave 1 SGS2 to each big CM7 contributor of CM7 for SGS, so "again AFAIK" 4 SGS2.
Which is pretty much an awesome move IMO

Why would you ever think you were going to get a pure ICS?
Well will this be usefull for development. Becuase they have to release sources and Gnote is almost similar to SgS2.....
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Well, touchwiz it is still better than pure ics who can't even make folders in the drawer.
I have a nexus and I still using go launcher, the contact section it is a skin, the functions are the same.
But if you want stock ics wait some weeks for a rom
It seems that Samsung is currently deploying ICS in Asia and Europe, the ICS release for Note is going to follow.
Hope this will help devs to release custom ROMs without this crappy Touchwiz
I see where ICS for the SGS2 released by sammy has already been rooted.
The first few "official" releases should have numerous exploits that allow for
root without too much trouble.
I'll just be glad to get root back. I screwed up on the last update and did it
from Kies and lost root and don't want to jump through the hoops of downgrading,
wiping etc just to get root back, knowing the ICS update will probably wipe it all out again anyway.

Touchwiz is Samung's way of branding their Android devices. If every manufacturer included stock Android in their phones, what would be the incentive to get one particular device over another, especially if the hardware of all high end devices from all manufacturers is almost identical? Unfortunately, if you want the stock Android experience you'll have to get a Nexus, or flash a stock rom built from the ICS source code. Can't have your cake and eat it too I guess..

Great... I really think ICS is for the Note is somehow tricky to do for Samsung...
So Q2 to get a new kernel source or can we hope the developers get another lucky sooner?

What do you guys think?
It's not good is it?!
I have a Note and an S2 - unable to decide which one to keep... ICS on the S2 is amazing (Omega Rom). No ICS on the Note does suggest that Samsung are having issues, which they are trying to push aside with the anouncement of a "Premium Suite".
I was very much in favour of the superior Note but with the S2 being solid & reliable with ICS already I am leaning back towards it.
Hopefully a leak will allow the Devs here to get stuck in and bring customised/optimised ICS Roms to us sooner.
I think samsung shuld employ more developers to be able to support its countless phones.
They have released more than 10 models in a year!

Hello everyone. The time has come. Today Samsung announced their new flagship device GT i9300 A.K.A. Galaxy S3. Now, if you are a big fan of pure AOSP and his aftermarket distributions like I am you certainly already know that ICS based CyanogenMod 9 is out there and running and its pure fresh blazing awesomeness. That said, I decided to start this pledge to gather money to give Teamhacksung members codeworkx and xplodwild the next Samsung Galaxy S3 so they can develop for it and port CM9. As you probably know, Teamhacksung is the official CM mantainer for Samsung devices.
Im daily in touch with Teamhacksung members and they are already aware and fully support this pledge.
We running for two devices here. The ammount already includes Pledgie taxes. The donnations are going straight to xplodwild’s paypal account.
We count on you that, like me, is certainly going to buy this new beast called Galaxy S3 and want to see it sporting CM9 and future Google AOSP releases.
CM9 on Galaxy S3 for the WIN!!!!

I'm not entirely sure I will want to put a vanilla or CM on this phone right away... the stock Touchwiz ROM seems to have a lot of nice features.. Unless these can be incorporated into a ROM that is based on CM9 or what-have-you I think I will try running a stock Touchwiz ROM with root access.. I have never used Touchwiz but even if I had I couldn't definitively say I won't like this because it's new to everyone.

Awesome.
---
To each their own.
Thanks for being so sarcastic. I guess things went a bit too fast.
Actually, while the Galaxy S3 will have many great features, they're all software-based. And after looking deeply, there's nothing that prevents us from adding these nice features to an AOSP ROM, for instance CyanogenMod 9.
Hence why, Galaxy S3, once running CyanogenMod 9, will profit from a community effort started recently to bring manufacturers' features to all CM9-enabled devices. This can include actions triggered by motion, and other features so-called "natural".
You can find out more details at http://opendesign.blamesamsung.org/. Details on specific features, as well as the ability for everyone to request this kind of features, will be available on May 10th.
I can only thank once more people that will help Team Hacksung and CyanogenMod getting a Galaxy S III, to help all CyanogenMod 9 devices.

And to answer CoNsPiRiSiZe, touchwiz always deceived us. I don't see why it would change now. A proverb says : "You don't have to taste **** to know it taste like ****".

I've concluded from some of the threads that this tab was released after the announcement that it would be getting an ICS update. Or close to it.
So as the update is expected soon, I expect the devs are waiting for that prior to putting all the efforts into android 3.2 roma.
Efforts are underway on a ICS port, but I'd guess the official release would expedite that quite a alot.
I'm hoping for a flood of ICS roms when its released
Yep. This is the coolest tab on the market right now. No sense wasting time on HC with ICS about to officially appear. It does feel weird to have this thing pretty much stock though. Using ADW launcher has helped the laginess.
