Jelly Bean volume states (Sound -> Vibrate) - Galaxy S III General

As we all know, with Jelly Bean one of the volume states disappeared. In ICS it used to be possible to use the volume rockers to go: Sound -> Vibrate -> Silent and viceversa. Now, with JB, the "complete silent state" is gone.
I have decompiled the framework.jar file and looked at the AudioService.smali file, which I believe is where the behavior is configured, but I have really little experience and I don't really know what to touch.
Basically with this thread, I'd like to know if anyone with more experience would take a look at it, as I'm sure a lot of people would be appreciative. If anybody has already messed around with the smali code, please share your experience.
Thanks!

Just scroll down notification bar and press the button..

That's not the point. Of course you can get around it in a thousand ways, but it's a simple functionality that has always been there and it would be nice to have back. This is not a post about how to get to silent state, we all know how to. It's about modifying the behavior of the volume rockers.

Notification Volume

So on every android phone, in the sound settings for ringtone, you can set it so that your notification and ringtone volume is the same (by checking off a little box). I font see this option on the phone and so when I lower my volume it only lowers it for the ringtone, not emails and texts etc. this is ANNOYING. is they're not a setting for this or is it just me?

It's extremely annoying, and my biggest issue I've had with the phone so far. Followed closely by no notification LED. Hoping to see fixes for both soon.
Okay, here's how.
As usual, Settings > Sound and Display > Notification Ringtone. Now that you have the notification ringtone list open, just press the volume key to adjust.
That's how you manually adjust the notification ringtone, as always. What we're missing is the option always in every other Android OS that allows you to match your notification volume automatically to your ringtone volume, allowing you to adjust everything at once by the hard keys on the outside of the phone. Without that option you bump your ringtone way down, for example to go in a meeting, then one of your notifications goes off full blast.
Okay, I see now. I haven't had an android phone in a month so I'm a bit rusty. Well here's a fix to that then. I can't do anything about it in the settings itself, but go to the market and download "Quick Settings." Open the app and go into volume control. On the top there is a check box for "Use Ringer volume for Notifications." Now it'll work.
That sucks big ones. I'll have to use audio manager till that issue gets fixed. This is why I hate non-stock android phones because manufacturers like htc, motorola, and samsung think they thought of everything but they always end up messing something up

I agree, this is the most annoying thing about the vibrant. (luckily its an easy fix)
Thanks for the suggestion on the "Quick Settings" app
damn, whats up with samsung phones just straight up missing **** that's included in android? I was googling for a way to block calls when I saw that android should be able to take any contact and send their calls straight to voicemail.. NOPE, not on my epic.. now the notification/ringer volume link is missing too?! WTF?
I'm having a serious case of buyer's remorse right now.

[Q] CM7 - quiet ring on pickup

Does anybody knows what's happen in CM7 to "quiet ring on pickup" option?
yeah i miss that feature as well.
also it would be cool if ringtone/vibration would stop if u put the phone upside down on the table...
stock htc roms got that option
anybody?
The "turn to silence" option was present in some of the nightlies. I don't know where is now or if it's vanished. But I too miss it... The "quiet ring to pickup" was never in CM ROMs as I recall, I think is part of HTC proprietary code that's not open source

An app similar to Invisibright Pro but for Volume?

I use the invisibright app because it gives you the option to stick it in the notifications bar so you can access it whenever you need to change the brightness. I'm looking for a similar app that does the same except this time, its the volume settings, not brightness. My volume rockers have been modded to be used as menu and back buttons, which I find really handy, so I'm left with using recent plus to access volume settings. Sometimes it takes a while to have recent plus start up, and pulling up the notification bar is faster. Is there such an app?

Have you tried this one? Sounds like what you're looking for:

in recent plus you can set it for both volume and brightness all in the same long press

That's what I'm currently using for volume. I don't like it that much though because sometimes it takes forever to show up. The 'long-press' on that app seems to be a 'press for a lifetime' for me.

I emailed the dev about it. Received a reply 5 minutes later (talk about excellent customer service!) He acknowledged my suggestion of being able to change the volume as well, and said that he'll get it working pretty soon.

Hey guys,
I'm working on this today and ran into an interesting issue. Normally, volume rockers can are "smart" by sending a volume up/down event to the currently open app. You'll see this when you hit the rocker while playing music and it knows to adjust the media volume, not the system volume. If I implement this in the slider, I have a bad feeling that the key remap mod will kick in and it'll send a menu button action or something. Can someone (with a Nook) willing to test this out for me give me a quick PM? I only have a Droid Charge.
UPDATE:
nvm, found a much better way of doing it
Thanks.

This is great news, danny. I'm willing to test anything for you, but the thing is I've got my NC bricked just yesterday. :'( I've been up all night trying to fix it! T_T Once I get it up and running again I'll be 100% supporting this project of yours! ^_^
InvisiBright updated
3.3 now has options for volume and new slider height settings (both for tablets). Enjoy!

Different volume bars not appearing

Hi, I just got my Nexus 4 and I noticed that when you push the volume keys, you only get one volume bar and no options to show other volumes like it's supposed to happen with Jelly Bean. As I readed, you should get a settings icon at the right side of the volume bar to show other volumes but I'm not getting that icon so if I'm not using any application and I want to change the media volume, I have to go to settings --> sound --> volume wich is very annoying.
Here is a screen of what should happen:

I'm only getting one bar and with no options to show any ohter ...
Is this by any chance desactivted on Nexus 4 or something?
Thank you!

actually this is the first time i see this second bar... maybe it was a feature of a custom rom?
Well, It could be, but as far as I know it's a Jelly Bean feature, you just have to google "Jelly Bean tips" and you'll get toon of pages that reference the volume bars thing. It should be possible to activate it... Or maybe it's not an offcial feature or maybe they removed it in android 4.2.2 idk :S

after searching for a while i found this... same problem, and a (lil more difficult) way to get the thing running? Don't know if this will help you?
Of, course you will find this function in some of the custom roms around, but i don't think it's the solution you are searching for At least i tried helping
Afaik these options only exist in custom roms

Option to cut off notification sounds

Hi All
I did a few searches throgh this forum but couldn't find the answer I was after. Basically I'm after some way to cut off or override the sound of notifications while the phone is in my pocket. I had thisfeature on my Atrix using MIUI so unsure if it's a feature/option relating to MIUI itself but would very much like the same functionality using the i9505. Does anyone know how I might achieve this?
Thanks in advance

If you're looking to turn off the notification sounds (or change the volume) click one of the buttons for volume and click the gear the the right of the volume bar and then you can change the ringtone , media , notifications and system.
Hi, thanks for the reply, That's not exactly what I'm after.
Basically when you have a notification going off and you drag the notification bar down, it'll cut out the sound. I used to be able to hit the power button when my Atrix was in my pocket and it would do the same thing. I'm just looking to be able to do the same thing with the S4.
