Anyone had this one? Since 4.2, the screen momentarily goes black, with a similar transition to hitting the task manage soft key, but transiting to the left in landscape, then flicks back to normal use. Happens in apps...screws up some games, puts others into pause mode as if a task has been switched. Thought it might have had something to do with auto rotation going a bit bonkers, but not sure....
Not heard any reports...have looked through the forum, couldn't find anything.
Weird...it just did it then....but the keyboard stayed on screen, xda disappeared to the left...
Any thoughts and thanks in advance

Ok..just happened again while in portrait mode. Definitely saw it flick to landscape. Rotation is locked btw.
Hmmmmm.....

It happened to me three times last night after update to 4.2 :crying:
Ok...so, while sitting in a tedious meeting, Nexus in landscape, propped up with its folding case the screened flipped upside down and stayed upside down. 3 times. My ipad using colleague giggled.
Any way to recalibrate the tilt sensor? Or any other suggestions?
It's not the end of the world but...there must be a patch solution or other? Before 4.1 I used the auto rotate app, I forget its correct name...
Thoughts?
Sent from my GT-I9100P using xda app-developers app
I used logcat to monitor the Nexus 7 until the random rotation happened. After looking at the log I realized that it was always the same process being activated and that process was nVision.
Since nVision always rotates into landscape mode I was suspicious that perhaps when it tried to update itself in the background it was changing the screen orientation. I disabled notifications and then uninstalled the app and the problem has completely gone away. I have had no random rotations at all in the last 24 hours.

Thanks very much. Ill give it a try and report back
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Okie doke.
For the record.... 48 hours and no random flips to landscape and back. I'd be willing to be a substantial amount of money this was the culprit. However, whether this is a 4.2 issue per se vs. Bad behavior in nVision is an open Question.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Ok. Disabling nvision notifications still flips out. Will uninstall later.
Thanks again
Sent from my GT-I9100P using xda app-developers app
Uninstall it. I still think it checks in and screws your screen, whether it shows you the notification or not.

Uninstalled...all good so far. Woooooo!

So I should just wait for a fix and not return it over and over to try to find a good one. It has a year warranty.

I turned off automatic brightness and I think that solved it. I think it was flickering when it was changing brightness.
its still there with auto off.
And with the brightness up but it so slight u have to be ocd like I am about my stuff to see it. But its easy to tell its not hardware because games like sonic CD are beautiful.

It happens to mine when its on the lowest brightness setting of when "auto brightness" is on. For now I've just set the brightness to max so I don't have deal with all the flickering.. for now.

With my settings set to Automatically lock (immediately after sleep) and power button instantly locks with a visible patter screen lock, my Nexus 7 on wake-up [pushing the power button immediately] either right after an invalid pattern code (where device then sleeps) or waiting a few seconds with no activity until the device sleeps (where the Nexus 7 fades to a black screen) will have a delay in bringing up the lock screen OR sort of flicker presenting some sort of black and white bar lines background at the bottom half of the screen for a split second before bringing up the lock screen. Is this normal or it is in fact a defect?
Thanks in advance!
Not sire about that I have seen it in 3rd patty apps on all devices before. But the flicker we are seeing is like it changing the brightness up and down.

As does mine. I think people think it goes away when not on auto, because the "low" setting is about 20-25% and auto will often bring it lower than that, making the flickering worse.
At medium brightness the problem is almost, almost, non-existant.
It's also not just in chrome as some say, just most noticable on chrome's white backgrounds. I've noticed it in any app with lighter, brighter colors. I just exchanged my Nexus 7, and the new one has the exact same problem. This leads me to think the software problem is the most correct answer.
I get it every once in a while. Full brightness set, no automatic. Ill wait for a fix, doesn't bug me too bad.

I suspect it to be a software problem because in game it looks great. Plus in a new device like this software problems go with the territory.

And mine as well I noticed my screen flickered when my batt was getting down to 10% and my brightness level was at about 1/3. But now its charged and I don't see it flickering yet. I don't know...with Chrome having a bug (lags when scrolling) and the flickering screen...I may be returning my unit? I really hate to because aside from my issues, it's an awesome device!
Don't take it back they well fix it with a update.

Occasionally, a horizontal or vertical line flashes on the screen very quickly and then disappears. Does anybody else have that? Is it anything to worry about, or does it not matter? Is it likely that a software update will fix this?

Damn it! I was seeing this on occasion and hoped that if I just thought I was crazy I wouldn't have to acknowledge it. Now I see it's not my imagination. It happens only rarely and it's really just a blip, but it is indeed weird. I just unlocked/rooted last night though so I'll have to see if it still happens now...
Always happens to me, really only noticeable on mostly white screens like in xda app.

First device had this issue, took it back (for many reasons), and have not noticed that little "subliminal" black line anymore.
Happens to me too, so far only seen it in the xda app, and in my browser while waiting for a Page to load that is taking a while.... I'm currently waiting for an exchange because I have a slight screen lift issue, but I doubt it will fix this black line problem, it is probably standard on these things. I guess I can live with it

Could it be a memory leak or a GPU rendering issue as some have suggested? Many of us get this on the stock ROM with no developer menu changes.
I notice it too. I thought I was seeing things. It is not serious enough to give a crap though. I just hope it does not evolve into a worse issue.
It probably has to do with spotty Tegra drivers. I noticed it slightly on Chrome, but never on anything else.

I've seen this quite a bit also. Seems most prevalent for me when I'm using the GPS Status & Toolbox app from EclipSim, except in that app the lines are white.
I think you guys are referring to screen tearing. I have seen it a few times to I think in chrome. Pretty sure its not a hardware problem.

I have three users configured and at times the tablet seems to lock up. But I can still pull down the notification drawer and setting drawer. I can touch the back, home, or multitask softkeys, or slide up for Google now.
But no matter where I navigate to, the N7 does not register touches in the "screen" area.
I have found that pulling down the setting drawer and tapping the user to "logout" and then logging back in immediately fixes the issue. Also toggling sleep/wake button and logging back in also fixes it.
Is this a known issue? Is this multiuser, software or hardware specific? Any solutions?
(I read back through a couple weeks of posts but didn't see this issue)
--- UPDATE------
Just happened again. But I left it alone for a minute, picked it back up and it was working fine. Perhaps this is app lag. The notification and navi bar work because they're systems but the screen stops taking input while it lags....(just a thought, I don't know how that stuff might work)
BTW I have a 32 GB N7, it is not rooted, and is fully up to date running 4.2.1

Damn. Well maybe get a log cat next time it happens. Maybe there will be something there to show why it stopped working.

I'll have to learn how to get a logcat. But I was able to recreate the issue and get a video. I could only get it to affect settings and the play store but I've had this in the launcher before too. I don't think you can hear but tapping the screen was causing the touch sound.

No one has had this issue? I've only experienced it in Settings and PlayStore on me first and second user, nothing on my third user. Also noticed a litte lag on the homescreen too.
In the video you may be able to hear the touch feedback sound. The screen is recognizing taps but not doing anything. Sleep/Wake fixes the issue until you leave the app...
Guess I'll need to exchange my N7 and hope to get one without this issue.
Why did this get moved to Q&A??
Are Issues not discussed in General?
[SOLVED]
I was using APP LOCK on User #3 and that caused what seems like an overlay that prevented touch on users 1&2.
I sent this issue to the apps support. And will try to find a free app locker that is milti-user friendly.
Sent from my LG-P930 using xda app-developers app
This has been happening since I remember getting the device. About 3/5 times when I bring my device out of standby and I go to enter my pattern the touch is off. I have "show touches" enabled in developer options to verify this.
When I put my finger on the top left dot of the 3X3 pattern, which is around the middle-left of the screen, it is detecting that I'm touching the device all the way in the top left corner. If I drag my finger around the screen, the touch is offset. If I remove my finger from the screen and place it back on the screen, then it is properly detected.
I didn't run on stock for very long, maybe an hour or two, before I rooted and flashed AOKP. Right now I'm on WhiteHawkx's unnoficial AOKP nightly and Franco's Kernel (r122).
My plan is to flash back to stock and see if it still happens then. But currently I have a really busy week ahead and don't have time so looking for insight.
Anyone else experience something like this?

I'm on stock ROM. I have this issue too, when I power on and drag to unlock, I get a delayed mismatched response. I have to power off then back on again.
It started this recently, so might be app related.

Turn on " show touches" in developer options to help verify if you the save thing happening.
I don't have to reboot mine but I have to lift finger of screen and put back on to get it to properly detect where the touch should be.

So just as a follow up I reverted to stock for 5 days and didn't see this issue. Flashed back to AOKP and Franco kernel and now it's happening randomly when I go to hang up a call. I tap on the red hang up bar and it detects the touch in the top left corner.
I called Google play support but since I didn't buy my device from them they directed me to lg.
I'm starting to think it's my screen protector.

lol, I had insensitivity issues on the bottom of the screen way back, I use a displayed pin pad on lockscreen so I just tap a certain spot to unlock, I sometimes wonder why the digitizer register incorrectly.
flashing a different kernel helped, I'm using motleys.
Have had this problem since launch, im on stock rooted, maybe its a certain app?
If anyone wants to compare their apps with me to find a similar problem, shoot me a pm
