Hey guys,
I searched the forums and couldn't easily find an answer to this: does the nexus 4 support tv out via it's micro usb port? In particular, I am interested in possibly connecting it to a tv via component cables.
Thanks!
Arthur
Yes, it has SlimPort HDMI capabilities. It's comparable to MHL, but uses a different cable.

Hi everyone,
I've searched this forum and on Google but didn't really find the answers to my questions.
If I want to connect my Nexus to a TV (that has a USB port of course) what cables and adapters do I need to use?
By searching I found out I need this adapter:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009UZBLSG
But what other cable/s do I need?
Thank you.

Just a heads up, there are cheaper ones that work better...
You screen will flicker with the SlimPort... at least mine did.

Can you show me an example, give me a link in Ebay or something? I seriously don't know what to search for.

Thanks, how are they called?
Can someone help? Do I need to buy a cable that has a male HDMI connector and a male USB connector so that it connects to my TV?
And along with it I need the slimport adapter (or any other adapter)?
Thanks.

Just a normal male to male hdmi cable, slimport goes to the hdmi input on your tv
It's easiest to just get a Miracast adapter since that's what the Nexus uses for Wireless Display. Just connect that little box to your TV via said HDMI cable and the nexus will connect to it directly, wirelessly.

That's no good for gaming though as there is a slight delay
Hi all,
I've just ordered this gorgeous phone and am waiting for it to be delivered. In the meantime I've been wondering given that it's capable of HDMI output and serve as USB host whether it is possible of it doing both at the same time, if say I hooked up the HDMI output along with other usb devices, like a USB drive and a keyboard via a usb HUB. I would be practically creating a bespoke docking station of sorts..
I know it's pushing the technology a little... and there are other alternatives to USB devices (NAS drives, wireless mouse/keyboards...), but my question is more about what the device is capable of.
Thanks.
Update:
So far I've successfully managed to plug in an old USB hub via a cheap micro-usb to USB adapter bought off e-bay. From there I hooked up a USB keyboard, Mouse, pen drive and also USB speakers.
I'm amazed it actually managed to power all of these devices without any problems (imagine battery drain is massive given that the usb hub is unpowered).
I would like to know if anyone has tried hooking up HDMI output while the USB is hosting other devices. Has anyone tried this already? I've searched everywhere and can't seem to find a definitive answer to my question.
As a side note, does anyone know of a docking station for the G2, similar to what you get with laptops?
Did you figure out the answer to this?

No, I have not yet tried this out. I had bought an HDMI cable/device thing but never got it to work on my TV.. apparently it had something to do with the technology that the phone uses for HDMI not being compatible with older Samsung TVs.
Would be great if anyone else has tried this out could post here, whatever the outcome
Hey guys,
I received today my MHL adpater
http://www.ebay.com/itm/171436891054?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
The signal to the TV is working fine.
My problem is when I'm connecting devices to the USB host port, there is a power over there but my phone not responding, while those devices are working with a simple OTG cable.
Some help over here?

I have been looking for the same thing, an MHL - OTG - charging dock/adapter/dongle, I have not found anything that people report as working reliably on the S5 (I am also looking for one to work with a Note 10.1 2014).
Have you tried to connect a power supply on the micrUSB port? I have a MHL adapter and it needs external power.

Yes, I did.
I even tried connecting a USB hub and I saw there is a power from the USB Host.
Please give me a link for what you're using a direct link to eBay item.

There is a chance that will work?

I'm not using a OTG MHL, just plain MHL adapter like this:

I was under the impression you can either use mhl or otg. Not both at the same time. You tried just using the thumb drive by itself without the hdmi plugged in?
anyone had luck finding an adapter allowing you to use hdmi alongside otg?
anyone found an adapter than can do hdmi and usb host at the same time??? there seem to have plenty for s4 but nothing for s5?? although s5 is using a newer and more capable mhl if i am not wrong

i received this one
it works well at same time as otg and hdmi
i am just not satisfied with the quality of the hdmi output.

i meant the image quality,to just watch and control your device its ok,to watch a 720p movie its not ok,video will be blur sometimes and it will be a little delay at sound.
few days ago i used a friends standalone hdmi adapter was performing amazing even at 1080p.
it is very nice thank you very much

I got that hdmi connection kit and it works great with my S3 doing hdmi 1080p and otg simultaneous + charging. But with my S5 it will only do hdmi 720p or otg not both. Image quality is poor on the monitor but great on the HD TV.
Maybe "Display Link" is the way to go to get wired screen mirroring and otg at the same time on the S5?
I gather the Zenfone 2 has MHL capability - high definition video and audio (up to 7 channels) output to HDMI via a USB MHL cable/adapter. Has anyone tried connecting to a TV by this method?

GSMArena says that it did have MHL, but everyone who has tried had not gotten it to work, so I'd say it doesn't have it.

Good job I didn't buy an HML adapter I saw yesterday then
I tried to compile in Moorefield's HDMI into my kernel for fun the other day; not so great.
Phone booted up, but said that there was an hdmi connection ( without connecting anything ) and started overheating fast.
I'm guessing that there might be an hdmi connection on the board somewhere that connects to the microUSB bus, but it's soldered/jumpered over.

I think, it's full-featured HDMI connector reserved on SoC (in case if used in Android TV dongle), not MHL.
There is Intel WiDi wifi display service integrated in the Rom. How can we use that for wireless display to a pc or android/smart tv?
Mhl didn't work, tested and asked in zentalk, online chat support and in xda..
But i seen an apk with name hdmi don't know what it is for
I purchased a usb type c to hdmi adapter and when I plugged in it said g6 does not support slimport and to use miscast instead, but my question is IS slimport hardware or software based function, thank you.
I' really like to know this, the lg site says the phone supports MHL. How is a MHL cable different to a usb type c to hdmi?
MHL, Slimport, HDMI and Miracast are all different technologies.
You're honestly better off getting a Chromecast. If you absolutely need to mirror, then miracast.
The USB ports on devices these days are non standard, and there is a lot of confusion about what is supported and what isn't.
As a rule of thumb, mobile devices only support faster transfer and power delivery, but not the additional hardware for multi screen support or others
Well I bought a oculus rift a week ago and trying to use it as a fpv with my drone and the rift has hdmi input so is the reason I brought this cable but g6 does not support it and even my rift doesn't appear to power on unless connected to pc and oculus app running to provided video coded for it, but is slimport a hardware or software based function.
