[Q] Any More Love for A501? - Acer Iconia A500

Hi, been following this A500 forum since I got my A501 a year ago. Currently using Moscow's HC3.2.1 ROM hoping to go JB soon. But heart broken when I read MD's no longer into A501!! Can we get more love for A501 users. I could flash A500 ROM but hate to lose my 3g.
Thanks.

And you'll lose your GPS also (500 uses a different GPS radio).
Here's a trick if you really want to run JB. Use the PPP Widget. Enter your APN ie; internet.beeline.ru, and your network password and username. ie; beeline and beeline.
You should get 3g connected.
At least on the JB builds the guys have sent me, it works. Not sure if the ones posted in the forums will work though.

Exactly why I was confused.
I do regret getting the A501 over something else now, because of the lack of 501-specific development. Moscow was my hero.

Ok, so a grammar mistake.
Should have used "IG".
In the future, I think I will just close this thread. Seeing IQ's have grown so low so as to miss the meaning of what was intended. Never claimed to be a "Grammar Pro".
Nite people....

Hey man - it was genuine confusion. No offence intended!

Thanks MD. I upgraded my A501 from HC to JB 4.1.2 (CM10-Flex-v6... Thanks Civato). The internal 3g works for my A501 based on your suggestion. In the configuration panel, I disabled the auto-connection and keyed in the APN but without the username and password.
It uses the WiFi feature to show its strength (fan shape) at the notification bar (in HC 3.2.1 it showed 3g and two arrows)!! This is good enough for me, I don't need to plug in my 3g USB stick like I used to when I was having the A500.
The GPS is broken as you mentioned, but not an issue for me as I don't use it at all.
Million THANKS again MD :good:

It's a shame that we don't have any devs for the A501 anymore... but I'd be curious as to how many people actually own it out there in the world to begin with. I just don't have the time/knowledge to fool around with things like this anymore.

+1 for more A501 love. Having 3G on a tablet computer makes it so much more useful, I would never buy a wifi only tab.
Would love a JB rom, the aging Tegra 2 is screaming for some Buttery love...

and how about making your phone 3 to 5 times faster!!!
use the search button to the top right
It's much faster for one and more refined than earlier builds. That last past is much more apparent in aosp builds then with sense. And there is WiFi tether. You just have to use the latest apk. And just an FYI, prepare to ne flamed by someone. This type of post belongs in q&a.

so WiFi Tethering is working on your ROM? if so that is great to hear.
I going to go read your thread and try to get some confirmation of this.
You really really can tell the phone is less sluggish. Video-taking is much improved because of this. The speed of which i can snap photos of funny **** my kids are doing is so important to me. They can be doing funny things for half a second and can't stand any lag.
The signal seems improved to me in my area with the new radio flash. so thats good
The phone is just loads better at what it is supposed to do.

Ya...Try one of the Kernels floatin around to speed things up
I just flashed BakedSnack's rom (Thank you kind sir) and it's scary fast. 47 MFLOPS compared to 7 on 2.1. I just tested the wifi-tethering and it worked seamlessly. I also don't have the FPS capped situation. I'm averaging around 50 at the moment.

Evo View Port?

Has anyone tried to port the evo view to the nc? I had the chance to play with one and I think it would port well as it is gb based and it is on a 7" tablet.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
No offence, but... why?
1) The nook is running a VERY well established version of GB, so we stand nothing to gain there
2) The hardware is so different, it is a huge undertaking to make it work (why do people mention the screen size as if it is important? The important thing is native resolution..); again, we have a good working GB.
3) The only thing you might possibly want to get is Sense, but that will be tightly integrated into the framework, again, making it difficult.
Really, there is almost nothing to be gained for the community with such an undertaking.. its not worth giving a second thought to.
No offence taken! Thanks for such a quick response. I should have been more exact in my initial post, but yes, the sense ui is what I am most intrigued about. The view that I used had a form of sense that seemed uniquely tailored to the tablet form factor. Also, I only mentioned the size because, as a tablet, at 7" it too does not have HC and all of the compatibility issues that come with it.
Thanks again for the response.

If any of you have seen the inFini Sense thread, then you know that this kind of stuff is really hard. The main problem: All parts of HTC Sense on the View look for a 3G/4G radio. Hmm... the Nook doesn't have that, right?
Edit: That said, it doesn't stop me from trying to port it.
Hello,
There are versions of both the view and flyer that don't have 3g/4g and only have wifi. The resoultion of both is 1024x600 on a 7" screen. The only problem I can see is the kernel and ramdisk, to have the rom boot. Correct me if I am wrong.

Dosen't make any sense to me either, but there has to be a reason. I like the look of the flyer better too.

I had started to port the Wifi only Flyer ROM a few months back but got busy with school and work and never got around to it. I've got 2 weeks off between the summer semester and the fall semester, though, so with 40-50 hours of work and a wife that I want to spend time with, I probably won't get around to it, either. But of what I did get, there were some major kernel problems that needed to be worked on. Sense requires certain things in the kernel that I just didn't have time to figure out.
As a side note: The Tablet Sense rom is HUGE! Like MASSIVE. Like require 1GB of dedicated SD storage for it (before debloating it.)

im sure if any of you all were to get a Evo View or the Flyer ROM working on the NC then there would be a nice following. I mentioned it in other threads when people was talking about it and didn't get a very nice response. Ive been modding WinMo phones for a very long time but just have been getting into modifying a NC because i wanted a tablet but didn't want to spend all that money on one. Especially since once you start flashing ROM s they are very addictive. Also if a new tablet comes out i like to say i have that same setup on mine basically without unloading the bank acct.

I've got an HTC Evo and a Nook Color running CM7. You can get a similar feel to Sense by installing the ADW EX launcher and Fancy Widgets on your Nook. My Evo has 7 home screens, while my Nook has only 5, but it's still quite nice. And ADW has some attractiuve transition effects when you flip between home screens. Bumping the CPU to 1.2 Ghz helps, but it's usable even at stock speed.

ROMs for a N00b?

My wife has a VZW GTab 7, and I'd love to get something more stock Android on it; preferably Gingerbread (for the increased functionality). However, she's not a power user so I'd prefer something as bullet-proof as possible. I'd even be willing to keep it FroYo if stability on GB is an issue.
What would you guys think, from your experience, is the smoothest, fastest, most trouble free ROM?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that a GSM ROM? Is there a way to get that to work on the VZW Tab?
You are correct. Do not flash GSM stuff on your CDMA device.
Right now there are a few GB options that oldmacnut has been working on, but if you wait just a little longer (a few days probably) he should have CM7 up for public consumption and it could change the answer to your question.

I wouldn't count on oldmacnut releasing anything. He was caught red handed stealing credit for somebody eles releases (ie he rezipped somebody work and renamed it), after he was caught and his threads locked he acted like a little girl, threw a hissy fit and then deleted all his links.
Nevertheless his "leaked" GB rom for the Verizon Gtab is what I would recommend right now. Definitely better than running stock Froyo.

Questions to 70it2 / 70B owners

Hello All,
I have few questions to 70it2 owners:
- How does it charge ? Through specific charger or usb port ?
- How is screen ?
- Did you try to root it ?
If you successfully rooted it, I'd be interested in a dd of mmc to check if I can get the aos keys. It's completely safe for your device, and it would help me for the future...
Thanks,

the charge is great, had no problem with it. It comes with 3 adapters from 3 countries:US, HongKong and Europe. Also with a USB cable and

Yes, it's completely different, soc is previous generation, omap3, single core and slower graphics.
But I don't buy the argument that it would be too slow, we see it running quite smooth on slower platform. And it's supposed to be more efficient than Honeycomb after all.

And you owe me personally, about well, a lot of beers. And not just any beer mind you, but I like really expensive beer
In fact, if one would calculate 12 beers per day @.5L per beer since the time he got HW Accel working, No green screens, and 85% of all functions working, you owe me about 457 beers, give or take. But I'm not greedy. I'll settle for an even 400 x.5L.
The Pure ICS rom 4.x, runs damn good. Only 3 or 4 things left. Most people are using it as a daily driver.
But now, "Iced" cube, if you don't come through with your wager, on open terms as you set, Well... that would be considered "welching" on a bet.
Welp, there goes my weekly wage...

assert failed: file_grep_prop("/system/build.prop","ro.build.fingerprint") == "motorola/tervigon/wingray:3.2.1/HTK75D/190830:user/release_keys [...]"
Is there a work around?

Youre flashing a xoom rom? That might be the problem. There is an ics build mostly functional for our device a few pages in to the dev forum (where we are) or you can google thor and try his which afaik is just lacking camera and rotation lock.
Which ICS rom is everyone running?
