Hi!
I'm thinking of buying a Nexus 4 from a play store in Canada. My question is, does an unbranded Canadian Nexus work on European networks and sims?
Yes, nexus 4 is Quadriband and Sim Free.

Looking at getting a mate to get me a Nexus 4 from the google play store while he's in the US. Everything should work on the phone fine in New Zealand right, no region locked type stuff?
Cheers
Yes, it will work fine, no N4s are carrier locked and they ask have the right radio bands. I bought an N4 from Google in the UK and sent it to my son in NZ.

I would like to buy a nexus 7 tablet with cellular data. I saw on google play device page there is a version for AT&T. I live in a different country. Device from at&t is compatible with my country network. I bought a Motorola Atrix 4G throught amazon.
If i buy from Google Play would the device be network locked to at&t? Should i buy from other place?
It is not a version specifically for AT&T. It is an unlocked GSM device. You can use it as long as you have a data plan for tablets or something similar.

Confirm. If you buy from Google Play it will not be locked to AT&T.
It's not sim locked, it just comes with a AT&T sim card, same goes to the T-Mobile version.

I can confirm this (least with a Nexus 4). The only difference between for example a Nexus 4 purchased from google directly and from T-Mobile is the higher price + Sim card, otherwise you can just pop in a new GSM sim card and it'll work. The same should be true of the Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 with 3G capabilities. (Google as I recall won't deal with carriers that wish to sim-lock their devices).
so basically there is no such thing as a locked nexus 7 2 gen + 4g (2013) ?
I'm looking for a nexus 7 2 gen 32gb + 4g and the seller stated that it's locked on t-mobile

I'm not sure about the nexus 7 but Google will allow simlocks what they will not allow carriers to do is lock the bootloader. The nexus range are first and foremost a developer range simlocks don't interfere with that but locked bootloader do.

I don't want to start a new thread for an old topic, so I'm recycling this one with the same basic question.
I have a chance to get a Nexus 7 2013 with LTE, but the seller claims that it is "locked to T-Mobile" and comes packaged with a T-Mo SIM.
I never thought these Nexus 7s were locked to any carrier. Has anyone here confirmed that these will work on other carriers, before I take the leap?
Have a Nexus 7 2nd gen, won't work with T-Mobile
I bought a used 2nd gen Nexus 7 which was sold as being unlocked, but it wouldn't sign in to T-Mobile's network. Their tech called support at ASUS who replied that the Nexus 7 can be locked by a particular carrier when it joins their network.
I did two full factory resets to no avail. My SIM works in my Chromebook but not in my tablet.
Has the lte versions with simcard slots been discontinued?
Can't find any for sale on the Google store.
Were there problems with them?
Are there any variances in software/modem/bloatware between the version sold in google play VS sold by Rogers ?
Or it it perhaps locked to rogers ?
thanks
There aren't any variants of the Nexus 4, so no.
Some carriers add some bloatware
It might be locked to Rogers so you better check that out
Bloatware can be removed once rooted
All Nexus phones are sim unlocked. Also, I have never seen a Nexus phone with carrier customizations in Canada.
It is unlocked. Someone I know bought one from Rogers and they told him it was locked. I put in my Bell simcard and it worked
I think it is a requirement that all Nexus phones must be unlocked.

Yeah its A Google Phone
and nexus devices do not include bloatware from carriers, even if bought through a carrier.
Locked bootloader is no go for me for the T-Mobile version. I was thinking about the International version, but then checked out the FCC specs for the Canadian version S7 Edge SM-G935W8 which are for Telus and Bell. The specs show that the Canadian model supports all the T-Mobile and AT&T LTE: Bands (2/4/5/12/13/17/25/30/41) as well as the 4g HSPA frequencies (850/900/1700/1900/2100)

It has the Exynos , but is bootloader unlocked and rootable. Off contract price in Canada is $1000 CDN which with exchange is approx $780 USD.
People have unlocked this device using internet unlocking services, so I am strongly considering this model. Is anyone here using it?

Not yet but I'm considering the same option.. Looks like everything is compatible
Yes, apparently if you buy through a Samsung experience store rather than a carrier store it comes with factory unlock codes.

So you have to travel to Canada to purchase one of these variants?

You could more then likely purchase them online as well.
Any update on this? I am looking to get one from Canada too but not sure if it's worth it. I know it won't work with Samsung Pay, Volte, and wifi calling. Anything else you know might not work?
Nope, everything else is working. Supports T-Mobile and att lte
