[Q] Can touchscreen sensitiveness be modded? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've heard many complaints about touchscreen responsiveness, so the question is if we can modify it in any way? Like flash some mods or kernels? or even somehow get floating touch (like this)? :silly:
Thanks

bump

Yes with a custom kernel its possible

It depends some phones can and some can't. I had the galaxy nexus and there was never a way to adjust sensitivity. At least that I knew of.

Lines flash on screen

Occasionally, a horizontal or vertical line flashes on the screen very quickly and then disappears. Does anybody else have that? Is it anything to worry about, or does it not matter? Is it likely that a software update will fix this?
Thanks for any replies!
First, are you running a custom kernel or stock?

I have not rooted my device. I have flash installed and Iplayer, but apart from that all my apps come directly from the Google appstore...

Damn it! I was seeing this on occasion and hoped that if I just thought I was crazy I wouldn't have to acknowledge it. Now I see it's not my imagination. It happens only rarely and it's really just a blip, but it is indeed weird. I just unlocked/rooted last night though so I'll have to see if it still happens now...
Always happens to me, really only noticeable on mostly white screens like in xda app.

First device had this issue, took it back (for many reasons), and have not noticed that little "subliminal" black line anymore.
Happens to me too, so far only seen it in the xda app, and in my browser while waiting for a Page to load that is taking a while.... I'm currently waiting for an exchange because I have a slight screen lift issue, but I doubt it will fix this black line problem, it is probably standard on these things. I guess I can live with it

I get it like once every 10 hours or so and only when using xda app or chrome for some reason.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Yep, I see it with tapatalk. Haven't noticed it with anything else just yet.

I also get it a lot when playing an online chess game. It seems related to the apps used. Don't know what to make of it...
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Could it be a memory leak or a GPU rendering issue as some have suggested? Many of us get this on the stock ROM with no developer menu changes.
I notice it too. I thought I was seeing things. It is not serious enough to give a crap though. I just hope it does not evolve into a worse issue.
It probably has to do with spotty Tegra drivers. I noticed it slightly on Chrome, but never on anything else.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I've seen this quite a bit also. Seems most prevalent for me when I'm using the GPS Status & Toolbox app from EclipSim, except in that app the lines are white.
I think you guys are referring to screen tearing. I have seen it a few times to I think in chrome. Pretty sure its not a hardware problem.

I haven't noticed it at all on the nexus. I have had this issue on my tf201 though.

Hmmm... seems this thread should be combined with the other regarding the same issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1791281
Yeah I get this too I'm hoping its a software issue it doesn't happen often but I seem to only notice it on tapatalk or the Facebook app. I haven't seen it on games or videos.

I get that in Tapatalk once in a while. I would guess its a coding thing and not a device defect.

Compatibility and performance issues

Alright to start off I love this device everything I expected and more but I came across some issues. The first one I had ran flawlessly no stutter nothing it came preloaded with JB. I went and exchanged it for a new one due to numerous dead and stuck pixels that showed up within 2 weeks. The new one I got came with ICS. I updated it. It was a disaster. A lot of stutter and force closes I did a factory reset. It seems better but not up to par with my previous one. Any one have any ideas on this issue?
Issue number 2. I had need for speed most wanted on the first tablet. Then when I go to rediwnload it on the second one. It says the device isn't compatible. Any ideas?

Awesome that's good to hear. What kernel is everyone using. Also are there any known common issues I should know about for warranty issues?

Yes. You are going to have to unlock ur device, and that voids warranty

I've seen a lot of folks reporting cracked screens, so be careful. Also check your micro sd slot and hdmi out functionality if you can easily. Is your device new or a refurb? A refurb has a 90 day warranty vs a new unit being a year, so keep that in mind.
I know it voids the software warranty. I was more talking hardware wise. Its new not a returb. Just hoping I don't get a bunch of dead pixels again

Unlocking/rooting voids the hardware warranty as well. Asus will not be responsible for -anything- if you unlock...
Asus will cover hardware failure even if the tablet is unlocked. Just don't overclock it and burn the cpu up. Lol. Pretty sure they won't help you out it that happens.

I personally see no need in overclocking a tablet. I couldnt imagine a significamt performance boost.

Oh believe me, you can definitely tell a difference when you go from 1.2ghz to 1.6 or 7ghz. A big difference.

What need do you have for those speeds? All your doing is increasing the likelihood of hardware failure.

Not only can you change the speed, you can also change the I/O and governor. That in itself is enough reason to use a modified kernel.
Also, I play a lot of games and the extra speed increases the quality of the games.

TF300t powerbuton / Charging issues
My Asus Transformer Pad TF300T has been sent in for repairs 3 different time in the last 2 months for power/ charging issues. It is only 7 months old and has been only used lightly.
Has anyone else had any trouble with the tablet not charging and the power button not working?

[Q]Nexus 4 touch sensitivity sucks

Coming from an s3 I was able to use my finger nail if I wanted to click on stuff and scroll. No joke I can post a video lol.
Just got my nexus four tonight and I love the phone overall but the touch sensitivity is really bad. Any ideas how I can improve it?

There's a mod in one of the Dev forums... I haven't used it but it seems to be working for those that have installed it.

Lol You're fingernail at the time you were using your s3 must have been short, thus allowing your finger as well to touch the screen without you noticing it. And now that you use your nexus 4, you're fingernail is long again..

Lol ... No. Actually used the back of nail where no skin would be able to touch.
On the n4 I press as hard as I want with my nail and it won't click anything.

This topic doesn't make sense. How does the screen suck when nails aren't supposed to be able to work on a capacitive screen normally?

Really? What are you touching then when you're testing the sensitivity? Do you even understand how capacitive screens work?
The sensitivity mod allows you to tap with the back of fingernail (i know i tried lol). It uses the earlier touch driver, but it does have the side affect of making the phone stall for a minute or more when first booted up; but if used with the supplied modded stock kernel you only have this happen once, also 'Matr1x' kernel also has this feature.

Everything and anything on my phone.
Even if I put my finger on the screen slowly without adding too much pressure it will not recognize the touch...try it.
I guess I'm just used to the s3 really sensitive touch screen.

Can you scroll on your home screen or click on apps with your finger nail?
Can you tap on an app with your finger ever so slightly, but definitely make contact with the glass, on an app icon or keyboard, and no action happens? Meaning the app doesn't open or the letter pressed isn't typed in...
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I can scroll with the back of my fingernail, and can open apps with a very small amount of pressure. I don't see why I would use my fingernail anyway

I can't do either. My sensitivity is really bad. It's really annoying when I'm typing so fast and half the letters pressed don't register.

Wow most of you are assholes.. I stopped reading after the 3rd negative response. Does anyone know what an example is? That is what the OP was saying when they said they could select things with their fingernail. It does not mean that they want it to do that but only showing an example of its sensitivity that their other phone had and I can tell you that you CANNOT do this on the Nexus 4 unless you push somewhat. My GS2 would scroll with no issues by grazing the screen I actually have to push before doing the mod.
There is a temp fix and it works fairly well. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2028289

[Q] 2 screen?

My question is:
Is there a way to have two things running on the screen at the same time like the s note2. granted i know the screen is not the same size but i do think it is big enough to have the function. and if so how ca it be done????
Sorry that is multiview and that is a Samsung feature. I believe we will never see that on the N4. Dev's are trying to get it to work on S3 and still have not got it.

Two things : 1) if CM 11 integrate the back white power button led that'll be awesome

Just want to conform to the above two things, and if they are possible then cyanogen mod will be the ultimate operating system for lg g 2... Any suggestions on this one?

The bavk button power led should be functioning exactly as the stock.... The second one is.... If CM could integrate a fool proof mechanism which eliminates all the bloatware right from the scratch, as if CM was the ROM the phone came with.... That will give us space like crazy on our phones. I've achieved it.. But almost was on the verge of bricking my device.. So a sure shot mechanism.
