How to get my internal storage back - Acer Iconia A500

Softbricked, only boot in cwm. So i use apx tool and flash the orignal EUU Honeycomb rom to unbrick. And i can boot to the home screen but My internal storage has gone , only 128mb. I want to know how to get it back.

You probably have corrupt data on it.
I don't know how you got yourself into this, or what you were running before. V8 Bootloader and CWM? Which Ruus?
Do you have your original UID? You will need it again.
Here's a link to TD's V4 rollback. You will need your UID. So get it using the USBDview app in the rollback kit before you begin.

Thank you MD and downloading the file. I have used thor JB ROM with HC Bootloader before. I noticed that message showed "removed error /data/misc/bluetooth/xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx/config formate /data error" when I wipe data. After that perhaps data corrupted and cant boot into system again. I jave a question I download another tdV4 package perhaps the same as you give me. And donetdetect.exe cannot run under my system(win8 64bit)It showed compatible error. So perhaps your package can run under my system or I have to wait until Monday afternoon after I finish the damn bussiness things and back to my office and get a xp computer.

Flashing CleanCB

For the life of me, I cannot get either version to flash. I've read, and reread this thread (I'm a reader) as well as everything in general - the wiki (I'm a reader). Just need 2 say that before JC is brought up in any response I get. At any rate, I boot into cw, wipe and flash. Each time and I've tried 4 times now, I get stuck at the Samsung screen. I'm on EL30, also have the modem and I'm rooted...I've done this many times bu cannot get this ROM to work for me....and I oh so wanna buy the dev a beer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried redownloading? Maybe you got a bad download.

What CWM are you running? And is the CleanGb build MTD or BML
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
I am on ClockworkMod 5.0.2.7
Tried downloading 4 different times
First tried flashing BML - twice
stuck on Samsung screen
nandroided back
Tried flashing MTD
stuck on Samsung screen
Tried one last time to flash BML - had to nandroid back again.
I've read a lot, a whole lot and I still cannot figure it out.
OK, try reflashing CWM 5.0.2.7 first. then do a Factory Data reset in CWM then flash the ROM right after. Don't use ROM Manager. See how that works. If you tried the MTD version then use that one. You may want to Odin back to BML with repartition checked if you want to try that one.

Ok....tried that with high hopes and got:

going to nandroid back again...if that works
Did try redownloading the rom &reflashing it?

Looks like you are getting bad downloads or your sd card is corrupted. You may need to backup and reformat your sd card.

I'm beginning to think this download (second MTD download) is bad. I totally removed my card - put all the info on my computer, inserted a new card, flashed and got the same error. Gonna delete the download and try again.

very helpful information. I have read a lot about people having issues with bad downloads. Nice to know you can check them like that. I have noticed in flashing various roms that I have come across some random glitches. Perhaps this could be the culprit. Thanks again.
Users should ALWAYS verify the integrity of ROM downloads using the md5 sums posted by the developer. If you download directly to your phone you can use the "properties" view in Root Explorer. If you've got it on your PC you can use the utilities found here - http://www.winmd5.com/

Samsung OTA update download location?

So I rooted my P6010 and installed CWM but now I'm checking for updates in anticipation of ICS (fingers crossed any day now) and I get an update (stability 17.08MB) but it won't apply as there's no stock recovery installed.
Everything it reboots to try to opens CWM obviously about to apply but can't...
No sign of a downloaded update in the obvious places.
Where do the Samsung OTAs download to?

You can flash the stock recovery back. Get your stock rom, extract the recovery.img
Make a uncompressed tar with just recovery.img in it. Then flash this tar with odin (in the pda)
Tip: dont use 7-zip to build the tar, it just wont work. You should use linux or busybox tar in your tab to create it.
This way you can switch between cwm and stock recovery as necessary.
Thanks for your help. I'm aware of this and I realise I could do this but it's a lot of hassle when I'd prefer to investigate the option of just flashing the OTA using CWM. I just need to find out where the damn file is!

When I try
reboot fota
from a terminal as root, I get a log dumped in /cache/fota
It looks like its looking in multiple locations for a directory tmp_sec_fota.
I dont have any updates, so it all fails, but maybe a clue?
I had a good look around but can't seem to be able to find anything. Shame.
I pulled this screenshot from CWM logs and there's a lot of reference to fota but everywhere I look there's no file even approaching 17MB.
Now I have a real problem because the Tab is my only device apart from a Galaxy Nexus so I don't think I can get a copy of stock recovery. I can flash as I've got MobileOdin though. I'm wondering if it's worth the hassle to do all of this for the OTA or if I should just wait for a version I can flash with CWM.
I only really rooted to sort the rw problem out with my 64GB MSD, if Samsung had have been better devastating I wouldn't have had to.

Those partitions in your photo are not correct for a p6810. You must have the wrong cwm installed.
/system is on /dev/block/mmcblk0p8
on my device, and your data and preload are wrong as well.
Where did you get the cwm. Could you be using one for the p6800? It has different partitions.
See the 7.7 development thread for one suited to the p6810.
Be very careful what operations you select if you have wrong cwm!
Also, any backups you have previously made (with the wrong cwm) should probably be discarded, as the data files will be misnamed/incorrect contents.
I got it from the P6010 CWM thread...? Strange.
I've discarded it and moved back to stock, ran the updates and everything works well now. Ran into some minor permissions stuff with modin but sorted it with removal from such app.
I think a lot of people are going to bump into these problems when ICS hits if they're running CWM.

Install a new ROM with no CPUID

Hi guys
I don't know what is happening with my tablet. I dropped it on the floor and after that quit working. I tried to flash a new rom as I am able to go into the recovery but installation hangs up at finding boot img step. Restore not working as well. Sometimes it says that it couldn't load the sd card or the ext sd card. Now it bots but it stays at android logo forever and eventually shuts down.
I dont have the CPUID handy so any method using it is out of discussion.
If you can come up with a solution would be really awesome. If not I guess I have to throw it in the garbage.
Thanks a million.

If you did a recovery backup, you should be able to find the UID number in the recovery folder on your EXT SD card.
Or perhaps you were not rooted with CWM installed?
More than likely, it could possibly be just corrupt data. First thing I would do, is check your EXT SD Card on your PC. Copy the contents to your PC, then format it FAT32. (always try to save the contents of it first)
Then, I would try running one of the update files. Copy it to SD Card, and try installing it. You may have to try a couple first. Here's a link with decrypted A500 ICS update files. Generally, we install these (rename the file to update.zip), by holding Vol+ and PWR till it starts installing the update. However, if you have the V8 Bootloader installed, then you need to try them through CWM. One of them should work usually.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31323893&postcount=8
Another method is to totally wipe the internal memory from your tablet. This can be done through CWM. When you do your wipes and formats before installing a custom rom, go to Mounts and Storage, and toggle Data/Media. Then when you do your wipes, it will wipe and format EVERYTHING, leaving bootloader and CWM.
also, I would pop the back cover off, and look for loose connections.
As with throwing in the garbage, there is a market for a500/501 parts.
MD
Thanks a lot for the tips. Never thought of sticking the sd card into the pc. I did a backup so i should easily find the CPUID. I'll try to follow your steps and see what's going on.
Thank you.

Other things you can try, if you have Skrilax_CZ V8 bootloader, you can try booting to fastboot, and wipe data. Theres several commands to do this for the different partitions like data, system, cache, then try re-installing the custom rom you were using again.

Dead android = dead NAND?

I'm taking a look at a relatives TWO Iconia A500’s both with the same issue. It sticks on Acer screen, I clear cache and user data and do the lock toggle trick, Andy shows up with magic spinning in his chest, offering a glimpse of a new beginning then KABLAM, he drops dead. I've tried loading an SD card with several different iterations of a stock rom , hoping to find the correct version for model I'm trying to save. I know this device has several charming hardware issues. Is there hope or should i move on?

In all honesty, it you can't get a clean reinstall using an EUU in APX mode, they are probably past saving. See my thread about my A501, which seems to be similar.

not sure if anyone else is game to try - he could probably make a few bucks on here if he wanted! I think someone else tried it a year or so ago but they went thru a few more hoops as the tab would not charge either, I can't find that post though!!
tdv4 - theres two different methods for running tdv4
from HC rom follow the directions in the pdf for "upgrade process"
from ICS rom you must use the "downgrade process" - do not connect your usb cable UNTIL you see the "cannot detect your Iconia Tab" window.
It will give you instructions for manual apx mode - carry on from there....
It may still fail, as it needs usb debug enabled from your tab. You can try using lcd047's method using tdv4 and manual nvFlash commands - theres a short guide about it in my cpuid guide
I'm leaning towards hardware at this point. The tdv 4 install hangs at about 10%. The manual nvflash spits out an error at the partition 4 write. I'm probably missing something, as I have no solid programming skill set, but I've spent several hours trying to sort these pieces of **** out. I have an Acer laptop and I've decided the Iconia a500 is a bigger turd than even it is.

PLEASE HELP. Boot loops to recovery

I installed the HORSEMAGEDDON ROM and it worked - for the most part. But it kept giving me annoying errors about different apps that were attempting to update every time I turned it on. So I tried to restore my backup that I had made with CWM 6.0.2.8. However the backup apparently did not restore properly because it now boot loops back into CWM any time I try to start it. I get the errors:
E:Can't open cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open cache/recovery/last_log
So I tried to reflash HORSEMAGEDDON but it still loops back into the CWM recovery screen.
I have wiped everything according to the instructions on the HORSEMAGEDDON thread.
HELP!! This happened to me on another U8800-51 phone and I wound up hard bricking it trying to get back to stock.
Anybody???
Does anybody have any ideas on how I can fix this?

What I would do is get an SD card with a custom rom on it and try installing it from recovery menu

Okay. Here is what I did step by step:
1. I was on Stock 2.2.2 Froyo and flashed HORSEMAGEDDON successfully. But I had some errors related to updates since it was such an old ROM the updates were all for much newer versions of the apps tied to 4.x.x.
2. I attempted to restore my backup made with CWM 6 to return to the stock. It said it completed successfully but when I rebooted it just looped into the recovery screen with the error messages posted in my first post.
3. So I tried to reflash HORSEMAGEDDON and it said it completed successfully. But it still bootloops into recovery.
4. I can access most of the features of the recovery. I can access the pink screen and swap recovery versions. I can access my SD card from my PC when I mount it from recovery.
5. Yes, I did do full wipes with each attempt to reflash.
The ROM was not the problem. It worked and worked well other than update issues for apps. It was only after attempting to restore to stock I ran into issues.
The problem appears to be something was corrupted when I tried to restore my backup, even though it said it completed successfully.
So if I try to flash yet another custom ROM, even if I could find one I trust given all of the version issues etc., I don't think it would act any differently. But if somebody can recommend one I am all ears. Keep in mind I have a -51 phone so it will have to be for that or the PRO.
Given that, how can I get back to stock? Am I the only person who has ever had this problem? I don't believe that is the case, so somebody must know how to fix it or can point me to a procedure to repair the internal memory.

None of the fixes on this link seem to apply to my situation.
When I said "bootloop" I may have misused the term. What happens is I power up, it goes to logo screen for about 10 seconds, shuts down and restarts to logo screen then goes into recovery after about 5 seconds. From other info that I have found it is due to a corrupt bootloader and I need to reflash the bootloader. Problem is, reflashing the bootloader i.e. CWM, does no good at all.
I am also hampered by lack of info specific to the -51 model. And I cannot find a copy of the stock ROM anywhere that is for the -51.
So essentially I am screwed. All of that said, I have found a new phone for $40.00 so all is not lost. It's a U8800 but not the -51 or PRO. I don't plan on customizing it, I'll just stick with stock. After trashing two phones even after following the advice to "BACKUP" I think enough is enough. Backing up did me no good whatsoever in both cases.
In my estimation, the culprit is CWM, or at least the versions I used.
If anybody has any advice I'm all ears.
