My opinion;
Despite all the other HTC Android phones coming the Nexus One will remain on top. The reason why I think this is because having a phone directly from Google itself means you'll get updates before anybody, and popularity from any other 'Droid phone won't beat out a Android phone from Google itself.
So to everyone who has a Nexus One or those people who are scared too get one because another one might make it look obsolete..DON'T WORRY. The Nexus One will remain on top due to the fact that it's from Google itself.
Just my two cents..
I agree with you on that. I just made the leap from the TP2 after running Android on it for a couple of days. I love it. Its awesome.

LOL, I did the same thing. My TP2 is now collecting dust.
So what you're saying is that because this phone is being so heavily backed by Google it will have a very long lifespan?
I think I can agree with that
I came from the CLIQ and man is this phone a speeeeeed demon!
well so far there is very little (to none) support from google......and Nexus One is the worst cell phone experience i have ever had.
The phone is good, the hardware is good, the OS is ok.......It just feels like everything is in beta or made from cheapo parts.

Well, you know, you should lay off from Google a little. This is there first directly sold phone, and they weren't exactly prepared for all the whining and problems people were going to have. I don't know how they didn't expect for nearly everyone to complain, but apparently they weren't exactly ready to join the phone competition. They haven't had to deal with any problems till now because they have been selling their Android powered phones through carriers..
I honestly don't understand how this phone could have so many aggravations for people though.. like the above poster said, you should also be more specific.
The good thing is that if the 3g connection is good, htc/moterola/exc can't put the blame on Google, Google has to accept the blame, thus forcing them to fix it snappy (hopefully like we've seen with the radio haha)!
coming from touch pro 2 the N1 is amazing
gotta be honest i miss the keyboard but its alright
just the fact that the phone has a 1ghz processor tells me that they are palnning to keep it for a while. ive had an iphone 3g too and so far i still like the n1 the best ...
just one problem so far - the youtube player is stupid and slow... =[
other than that 5 stars

Are people still getting dust under the screen...or has that been fixed.I'm debating if I should get the N1.I had the G1 and loved all the mods you could do to it and the N1 has twice the specs so it's a powerhouse and the only phone out there close to those specs is the HD2.Man I just can't decide, maybe I should wait till all the kinks are worked out.

I love the phone. But the speaker phone suks arse! How do you miss that part in the testing of the phone. Maybe if I bend it a little and give it a HERO Chin that might fix it. Now if I can only get that "bending device" they used in the "Making Of The N1"......hmmmmmmmmm

I don't know if there is a limit. But if there is, then there's even LESS reason to send it in right away, like so many people are doing, and then getting phones with the dust issue once again. Get the phone, enjoy, send it back at 11 months.

I found a brand new one on Craigslist for 300 bucks, will be picking it up tomorrow, I think I'll be keeping the Nexus S as well, unless the Nexus One just blows my mind somehow lol..
I don't think it will no true multi touch
I've never actually used a Nexus One, but am I the only one who think it's ugly as sin? I'd be turned off to it simply by aesthetics.

I was enamored of the N1's appearance when it first came out, but not so much any more. The NS is much "sexier" in my opinion.
Why do you want an N1 now? It's over a year old in design, and has some serious hardware flaws in my opinion. The display and especially the touchscreen and capacitive buttons are all problematic in one way or another (can't see screen outdoors, can't do multitouch accurately, capacitive menu buttons misaligned.) The camera also puts a nice pink blur on every pic you take.
If you can get past those hardware flaws, it's not a bad phone otherwise. The sound quality is good on calls and the 3G speeds are really good. There's also a ton of software support with custom roms and mods and other hacks.
Surprised you could actually find one "new" this late in the game.

If its "new" probably a nexus one with an SLCD screen
I'm really liking the nexus one over my G2 for now. It could be the new factor. I love how all the roms work perfect on the device. With the G2 the sense rom lagged and the miui rom would reboot randomly. I really miss the keyboard of the G2. I really would love to see the G2 get official miui support. The development on the nexus one is outrageous.
PS. I didn't mean to put down any G2 developers. You all are awesome and you guys are the reason I'm still holding onto the phone.

I guess that is one of the reason I have not upgrade to new device. Every Rom available for nexus pretty much q good choice. You can't go wrong with any of them.

Nexus one is the one for me, fortunately, i owned it over a year...
if you think development for the nexus one is good now, you should have seen it a few months ago. the development on this phone is just through the roof.
it really is a great phone, all this time later, and why many of us cant find a replacement for our nexus one. it still matches most phones out now approximately, and its perfect size and build with color trackball. nothing else can match it for me but i'm thinking of going with desire s maybe...
The Desire S would be a good choice as it's the closest thing to a N1
I would only buy it though once a CM ROM was available.
The N1 is an awesome phone but has it's issues. Flawed to perfection in my mind!
I get my first N1 soon...stoked to add it to my stable.

I can see myself hanging onto my N1 for as long as possible. Perhaps when the Nexus comes back to the HTC camp again... For now we still have a top flight device that's on par with the best of the competition.
I'd miss the great dock capability, with the gold contacts on the phone, and simple things like the pouch, (been using it since day 1 and after a year it's still pristine), too much to want to change to something that's lacking those nice extras.
it's stupid, I know, but one of the reasons I don't wanna switch from N1 to anything else is the position of the "BACK" button (I like where the buttons are now... Back, Menu, Home, Search)
other factors:
- other phones aren't vanilla-friendly
- trackball
- nexus s feels like something from the dollar store
I really hope another nexus-type phone comes out from HTC, not Samsung (terrible build quality)
oh yeah AND THE POUCH !

The N1 package, with the official docks too, is the best i've ever seen! Docking contacts should be mandatory on all new phones and they should be supplied with pouches!

For Cyanogen Mod alone, nope.
I like Miui which i find to be a little buggy for the G2. So for me it's perfect. I really like the Nexus One, but my G2 isn't going anywhere.
Only problem with the Nexus One is the occasionally erratic touch screen.
And of course at some point the CPU and/or GPU power will become a problem... then we'll have to upgrade.
nexus one is one hell of a phone..
great combination of google(the best os co.)
and htc (the craziest and best phone manufacturer)
I think that until more and more applications are developed for dual core phones or take up more RAM and require more processing power, the phone will always be here.
I personally dony think that we need dual core phones at this point, and I'm only interested in the GS2 because of the screen size and specs.
Ill definitely be keeping this phone for a long time.

you make a great point that is never mentioned, the BACK button should ALWAYS be on the left most part of the bottom. its just natural. we read left to right, and something backwards is to the left, forwards is to the right. so moving your thumb LEFT to hit the back button is the most natural feeling, and the way it should be. moving your thumb RIGHT to go LEFT is just counter intuitive and opposite of how it should be. not sure how these manufacturers dont realize this fact and test it.

I completely agree about the buttons, that is the first thing I look for on a new android device, and they never get it right! Also, I absolutely LOVE trackball notifications! I honestly don't know what I would do without them. Nexus One is an amazing device that I see myself holding on to for a long time.
I'm not really sure if the battery is replacable or not. It's not as easy as with other smartphones, but it is possible, right? You just have to careful to not break some wire.
Because otherwise, what could I do if the battery would die? If it wasn't replacable, I mean. I've read somewhere that the battery inside the N4 has 800 "cycles".
Uh, well, like ANY OTHER PHONE with a "non-removable" battery you have two options:
1) Buy a battery, crack it open, and replace it.
2) Send it to the manufacturer and have them replace it.
If under warranty then have it fixed. If not under warranty the either take it to a repair shop and have it fixed or fix it yourself by replacing the battery or buy a new phone. There is a video that is very good on disassembly of the nexus 4....

It's still not nearly as popular as the GSIII or the One X for example, even if LG would've produced more. Everyone looked weird at my Nexus S, as they would at a Nexus 4. They just don't know it exists.
It is a VERY popular phone at a community like XDA. But the "normal/mainstream" customer doesn't know about it, and will never buy one even though the price is ridiculously low.

Who cares? Quality > Quantity. I don't idealistically want a phone that everybody else has. It's popular within the developer community, that's what matters to me. They wouldn't of thought your Nexus 4 is a Nexus S because Nexus S sold less than Nexus 4 most likely.
Why wouldn't they buy the phone? T Mobile is praising subsidized devices on their carrier and will be offering marketing within their stores.
One X is also not a popular phone with HTC on the decline.

Misunderstanding what. You're confusing me. You're pointing that the Nexus device isn't a popular device compared to a S3, iPhone. I agreed with you, PERSONALLY in my experience, I don't want a phone everybody in their world has or know what it is.
Being a popular phone is very subjective anyway. In the developer community or android hard fan base, it's a popular phone. The average user only knows of Droids, Galaxy S#, iPhones, Blackberry.

is there really any reason that google has made the GEL launcher exclusive to the nexus 5? I looked at the lg g2 a few days ago in my local t-mo store and liked the fact it had a large screen, and figured i could get something like that if I had my bars transparent like the bars on the g2 since it's a huge price jump and I couldn't afford it. That being said, is there really any reason other than a selling point to keep the GEL on the n5 only? Thanks
