Hi all,
I am new to Android and just used the nexus 7 toolkit v3.2 to unlock my nexus 7. The rooting seemed to proceed without a hitch, but after the reboot it doesn't seem to be rooted, according to root checker. What should I do?

Root manually. This is a Nexus, there's no need for all this toolkit crap. (No offense to the devs of course, they are awesome)

Use Wug's toolkit, it's better. The devs of that toolkit you are using have only given updates to paid members - that toolkit version is quite old.

Don't use a toolkit. It is one command to unlock, one command to flash cwm. Then you flash supersu from cwm. It takes less than 2 minutes.

I was able to get rooted, and flash cwm using wug's toolkit. I also found instructions to do it manually, so I will try that next time. Thanks!

Hey guys this may seem like a really stupid question... But is it possible to get my Nexus 4 stuck in fastboot mode? This is going to be my second android device and I want to root it. I have a Kindle Fire that when I first attempted to root it got stuck in fastboot mode and was not recognized by my computer. I managed to get on another computer and complete the root, but is there any risk of this happening to my new Nexus 4? Thanks
There are always risks, but it is very low risk with the Nexus. The Kindle is locked down by Amazon thus is a pain to root, while Nexus is a development device made by Google so root is very easy and straight forward. Don't worry about it

I personally recommend Wug's since it has a graphical interface with a lot less options (much easier to use). There is also a detailed guide on how to install Nexus 4 driver.
For recovery, installing it via ROM Manager/Goo.im after root obtained works best. The ToolKit doesn't seem to flash recovery very well.

The same happened with my Kindle fire but not the Nexus 4 as it is meant to be unlocked and accessible. Hack on!

didnt notice that the nexus 4 toolkit did not work after the 4.2.2 update so whats my next best option?
Unlock bootloader in fastboot, fastboot flash your recovery then flash an SU zip then your rooted

Hi, the nexus toolkit works! You just have Tod change the adb files manually. Take a look at the homepage oft wug fresh, there you will find Moore information.

Toolkits work fine. Need to update devkit, follow the developers download sites and instructions.
Hi,
After rooting my nexus 4 device is not working.After rebooting it ,it is only showing the colorful X sign and gets stuck there.It seems somehow i lost the OS.I tried verious methods to push the os in the device but it throws the error "device not founf".
Please help.

What method did you use to root it? What OS version did you have when you tried?
Use wugfresh toolkit, then go to bootloader then do an unroot, (soft-brick) after the method is done, follow steps on wugfresh and reroot, you can also install twrp, not sure if cwm is there or not.

What method did you use?
Try the manual method.. Toolkits are never recommended by pros here..

Hi Guys, I want to root my nexus 4 running 4.3 but I have heard it is not as easy to do since the update, any help please.

Background info: I was rooted before this latest update, so my bootloader is still unlocked. Are there any one click method that can work with 4.3?

You can also use ClockworkMod's superuser program instead, if you prefer. It has worked flawlessly for me on 4.3.
The 4.3 permission issues have been resolved in both programs (although in different ways).

Click on the url link for Manual installation with the recovery zip (Recommended if you are having installation issues or are not rooted), and download the file.
Flash recovery in fastboot and then flash superuser in recovery.
Rooting 4.3 is identical to rooting 4.2 (or any other version really) with the exception of requiring an updated su application. The only difference is the implementation, which you as the end user shouldn't have to worry about as long as it's working okay.

I'd recommend learning to do it manually rather than a toolkit, that way this will never be an issue again. It's very easy to do. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2382051. The entire instruction set is in the very first post.

That is not manually rooting. It uses auto root (and has superfluous steps), which is silly for a nexus device.

We're here to help, man. Try it manually and let us know if you run into any problems. It's basically impossible to hard brick a Nexus device. Almost anything can be recovered from.

I have used the wugfresh toolkit to root on latest firmware (KRT16S) and it works fine. Just select the "any build" option. Don't know about unlocking though, as my device was unlocked from 4.3
However, I do remember that I was able to unlock my 7 using the wugfresh toolkit BEFORE there was even an option for "nexus 7 2013" so it will probably work ?
Or you could do it the way everybody else here is saying, instead of the newb way ? (but I prefer the newb way)

Toolkit was updated and supports latest kitkat, I prefer the easy way. Not that I wouldn't of tried the other method. I've rooted plenty... Just wanted the easy option. Took a while to sort out.. As I had just factory restored my laptop. Anyways that's for all ur help guys, all sorted here!
Wugfresh is what I used. Works flawlessly. Very fast an simple ?

I really don't understand how a toolkit can be "the easy way" on a nexus device. Run two fastboot commands and press one button and you've done it manually. You never have to worry about someone else's code working or compatibility for future updates. And it's the same for any nexus device.
