Microsim - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone else who bought a phone off the play store having trouble finding a micro-sim. I've been to four stores for t-mobile in MN, and one of the stores have/ or are especting micro-sims. I'm curious if this is a MN thing, t-mobile thing, or if there's actually a micro-sim shortage.

I got a sim cutter on amazon for like $9. Worked well for me. I'm in MN too but I haven't looked around for micro sims. I would let you use my sim cutter though!

I ordered a micro-sim off T-Mobile's website for 99 cents which included shipping and activation.

I just googled a template and cut my old Sim down with scissors.

Must be an MN thing.
I walked into my T-Mobile and told them I needed a microsim and they gave it to me no problem.

@OP. Not sure where in MN you are located, but I got mine at the Roseville Mall corporate store.

I guess they must have gotten recently or something. I just got mine here also, even though according to the guy at north town all the nearby stores were out. Now I can finally use my phone

I eyeballed mine and cut it with a butcher knife.

I had a sim cutter, go to some mom and pops indirects and see if one of them has a sim cutter if you aren't comfortable eyeballing it.

I'm in MN also and couldn't get one. Had to cut mine with some instructions and template I found on YouTube.

I ordered a sim cutter on eBay for a few dollars a couple of weeks before the N4 went on sale. But it didn't arrive until a few days after I got my phone, so I just went to a local phone shop and offered them 5 bucks to cut my sim and they just did it for free: )

I didn't want to pay for a SIM cutter so I tried cutting it myself with scissors and eyeballing it. Somehow it got messed up and when I put it in the phone I never got it to work.

Cost of MicroSIM

I have already ordered a SIM cutter and it's on its way to me. I had to speak to Orange customer service about a problem I was having and thought I would ask them about buying a MicroSIM. I'm on PAYG for now, as most of my time now is out of the UK, and they said a regular SIM would cost about £1 but a MicroSIM on PAYG would be £25. Ridiculous!
I'll just have to stick to my cutter and hope I get it right. If not, I suppose I can buy 25 new SIMs until I cut one right!
haha yh got to cut mine soon too. I wonder if they can cut it instore.
it's very easy to cut. you really cant mess up.
micro-sim cutter: $4
new mirco-sim: $25
I just buy a Micro Sim Card Cutter+4 Sim Adapter on ebay for 4 dollars and I'm ready to cut my SIM
I walked into a Vodafone store and got a free microsim in about 5 minutes. Good thing too because the Sim that Voda sent out with the phone was a standard sized sim!!!
Tmobile told me i can go to any store and theyll swap my regular sim for a micro sim for the sum of £10.25 there and then.
Seems pretty reasonable to me.

Wow. Vodafone Ireland will replace your sim with a micro sim for free, even if you are a pay as you go customer who has bought a new phone elsewhere which requires a micro sim.
I guess from their perspective, you're asking for a sim that needs to be used on their network, so why wouldn't they do it for free. It ultimately means revenue for them.

Orange UK once tried to charge my colleague an extra £10 a month for a micro sim.
He told them he'd cut the sim himself and it was working fine, but he wanted an official micro sim. They told him it wasn't possible to cut the sim and that he'd need to pay an extra £10 a month for an Iphone 4 plan. He just said thanks and hung up and he still uses the sim he cut...

You're right. I've decided to switch to Giffgaff. I have to be on PAYG in the UK as I am not here very often. I have a contract sim from masmovil in Spain. I'll ask them if I can have a microsim from them.

All the other carriers have their own "Official" thread so why not
Figured this would would be a good central location where fellow AT&T victims, err, customers, can help each other out and discuss all things GSIII.
I preordered mine yesterday at Best Buy, 16gb Pebble Blue. Got an XtremeGuard full body protector coming for it and gonna order up a TPU case tonight so I have some sort of protection for it until my Otterbox arrives. I hope we (US S4 GS3) get our dev section soon so our devs can do what they do. It never ceases to amaze me at what those guys can do
Can't wait to get mine and do some comparing with my One X. Preordered the white model today through ATT.

It was an instant rebate. I highly doubt a rebate will be in the box. If that was the case, I would be getting mine for $99. Sounds like the rep doesn't know what they're talking about. I would call again and explain what the other rep told you. If you are upgrade eligible, you should only pay $199 plus tax.

after going through 4 methods to try to pre-order and retain my unlimited data, i decided... i'm just going into the store on launch day. that way i can 1) get the phone at 9am instead of waiting till i get home from work and 2) keep my unlimited without extra hassle (the store has no problem keeping unlimited on immediate phone sales but for some reason it doesn't work for them on pre-orders)
bought mine online at bestbuy.com had no problems keeping my plan or unlimited data intact
I'm wondering what people are getting for sd cards, there's quite a few 32gb out there, only a couple 64gb ones... I think i'll stick with the 32gb as it took me 2 years to fill up the 16gb on my sgs1... are there any reviews, comparison, etc for these micro cards? i know these sd cards can really vary in terms of r/w speeds and what not.

Think I will wait to get my hands on a galaxy s3 in store before ordering. Waiting a couple months and that $199 price with 2 year contract should drop a little.
Edit. With SD cards, you want the highest class number. Those are the fastest. But be careful because the most extreme speedy cards might not be supported.

what store sells the nexus 7?

I got mine on release day in a store in NYC b/c i really wanted it.
Recently a friend asked me what tablet to get and i said i really love my 7, does everything and is cheap. Then he looks into it and wants to buy it, goes to 2 stores and they basically laugh at him.
It looks so bad when you are trying to win over new customers that no one even sells your product. Where can I tell him to go to buy it. I know staples, but thats embarssing in itself.

WalMart. This past weekend, one of my local WalMarts had 6 of them, and another one had 3. They don't advertise that they have them, there is no sample on display, and there are no signs. Just Nexus boxes locked up in the glass cabinet.
Every other store around here never has them in stock. Sam's Club, Staples and Gamestop have signs but no stock and no display model.
Game stop I went to had advertising everywhere but sold out. Said they sell too fast to keep in stock. Called for me and found one store that has a few in stock

sorry guys..just saw this in the other tmo thread:
"Micro sim cards are free at T-Mobile store or 99¢ if you want it mailed to you. "
thank you!!
Yep. I purchased an iPhone 5 off contract (don't worry I hated it and returned it within 5 days) and went into a T-Mobile store and they gave me a micro SIM on the spot, free of charge.
T-Mobile website is currently 'out of stock' for the micro sim activation kit (i want the prepaid 100 voice, unlimited text, 'unlimited' data plan). According to the online chat person I talked to, the kit should be back in stock in 24 to 48 hours.
I just did a chat session on their website. Asked for a Micro-SIM to use with the Nexus 4 and the rep in the chat gave me a link to order, and verified the order number went through. I did this at 4PM. Literally at 9AM in the morning our mailroom guy handed me a package with the SIM inside.
All for $1 and change...lol

Definitely just go to the store and get one. I called 3 stores in the atlanta area (near my house, near my work, on the drive there) and they all said they have a crap ton of them in stock and will give you one/activate it in store for free, or (if you prefer) will cut your normal sim with a hole punch type of thing for free as well.
I'm a prepaid Tmob subsriber and I went to my local store where I go to refill my account every month, the guy there said that a microsim would
cost 20 bucks!
Planning to order one online now. I would still be able to retain my number, right?
I just got one for free in my local T-Mo store. Google doesn't anticipate even shipping mine until today, so I asked them not to activate it. You can activate it from 611 or from their website once you get the phone - obviously that will kill your existing phone so hold off before doing this.

VZW Activation issues

First off, I am a current VZW customer switching from a Note 4 to the Nexus 6p and so far I'm having some trouble.
So I just left a local Verizon authorized dealer (not VZW corporate store) where the sales rep assured me repeatedly that my new 6P will NOT work on Verizon's network. Saying it has something to do with the specific bandwidth of the VZW network... Idk the networking side of things is completely foreign to me. He even went as far as to refer me to other carriers, saying the Cricket store right next door would activate it for me.
I left dissapointed, but called VZW customer support as I sat in the parking lot. The girl I talked to had absolutely no problem sending me a new nano Sim card for my 6P.. However, with as easy and smoothly as it went, I'm hoping the sim will already be activated to my account when it arrives.
But on the chance that it is not, am I correct in believing that as long as I can get a hold of ANY nano sim phone I can take that into VZW and have them activate the card for me?

That verizon rep is either clueless or a liar. I bought a sim cutter off amazon and cut my Verizon Note 4 sim down. Took 30 seconds from start to finish and worked immediately.
Alternatively, I couldn't cut my wife's note 3 sim down to a nano for her new Moto X Pure so we went to a Verizon Authorized reseller and asked them to activate a nano sim for us. The guy was super nice and said he could do it but they had to charge $20. He said the Verizon corporate store would do it for free...I opted to pay the $20 to not deal with actual Verizon employees.
I sort of wish Verizon's network wasn't so good..their client service is so bad.

I came from Verizon Note 4 as well. I just walked into my local Verizon Corporate Store and he activated a nano sim for me right there. Probably took 10 mins and I walked out with the 6P activated. If the nano doesn't come activated, I'd call verizon or take it to a corporate store instead of an authorized dealer.
Wish I had just gone into the corporate store at this point.. Seems that has been pretty successful for most. Oh well, nano sim will be here tomorrow and I'll be sure to go back in and prove to that rep that he was wrong.. He VERY clearly informed me
"even though the guys on xda say it will work, I promise you it won't. I would have gotten one month's ago. But I went with the LG V10 since the 6P won't work on Verizon"
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Authorized retailers are the worst. These guys are 3rd party companies who just resell Verizon's services. They always want to push you to buy a branded phone instead of bringing your own, and they often charge higher prices for devices than corporate stores. Also a lot of them charge "programming fees" of $15 or $20 on top of traditional activation fees if you're doing a new line. Many also charge for SIM cards, anywhere from $20 to $30 whereas corporate stores will give them to you for free. Authorized retailers are a racket and should only be used if absolutely necessary. Verizon corporate stores generally offer a great customer experience in my dealings with them.
Sent from my iPhone 6S Plus using Tapatalk
A sim cutter would have saved you a lot of issues. I popped my nano out of my Droid Maxx, put it into the 6p and it was good to go. The only thing "not compatible" on the 6p for verizon is visual voice mail.
