Google Chrome vs Samsung Internet Browser - Galaxy Note II General

Hi xda
I've been using my new Note 2 for the past 2 weeks now but still havent made a decision to go for which browser to use as stock.
A number of apps, website etc etc opens up a window of choices and still I pick one or the other as 'and haven't decided on the "default" one yet.
Which browser are you using on your Note 2? Or you think suits the Note best?
Wish there were some features which could enhance the implementation of the stylus
Handwritten from my Galaxy Note II

Opera Mobile

Default Samsung browser is the fastest, even faster than opera and all the other 3rd party ones. The only issue i have with it is it won't zoom in on text as nice as chrome when i double tap. Then theres the chrome sync which syncs your desktop stuff to you phone. Guess its up to you to decide

Ahmm actually it does. Go to Settings in the Internet app then Advanced and tick the box where it says Auto-Fit Pages. It will do the trick. You can even customize the minimum zoom you want there. I am actually beginning to like the default app instead of Chrome. I dunno it kinda sucks. Except the tab sync there is not really a benefit in using Chrome.

Dolphin. The best in my opinion. However stock is better than chrome.
sent from my Note 2.

stock browser.
if opera had flash then I'd choose that, but it doesn't.

The samsung browser is I think the android browser. It's not samsung. Js

Stock browser because I like the smoothness.
Chrome is laggy

Dolphin, alternatively if you require flash the "samsung" stock browser.

Today I've stumbled upon the Boat Browser, and I think it's the best one I've used so far, it even can fit in Page when pinched to zoom ilike Opera except that it also supports Flash.

Of course Samsung browser, most manufacture optimize browsers for the phone and should be faster than all browsers

Same here.. If only the stock browser could incorporate the Swipe to change tab feature in Chrome!

stock browser plus tab = perfect

Yeah but for me tabs switching on the stock broswer is jusy an awful experience. Whereas for chrome dolphin etc it is very accessible.

Which Browser works best on the Note for you?

I used the Dolphin browser on the Nexus One and automatically installed it on the Note believing it to still offer the best Web browsing experience with the most add-ins. I suppose if the Google Chrome was available for phones I would use it to match with my laptop. Which browsers work best on the Note for you?
I just started using dolphin, its nice to set it in desktop mode and have no more mobile pages
For heavy sites opera. Small mobile sites probably dolphin and the likes. Opera is the best imo

I intend to use Xscope, because A) I always have, b) it works!
Check out boat mini....did a multiple site download test on all the browsers and this and stock was fastest...Opera Mobile was close second. The Dolphin is most feature rich but doesn't transmit data as quickly as these.
Stock unfortunately, unbelievably! doesn't display desktop versions...hello Samsung!... You have the best screens in the industry and don't have a useragent desktop option!!

i love Dolphin Browser- what's wrong with it on the Note?
Is it just me or is the stock browser missing the all important STOP/REFRESH button?? Why would they omit that weird..
im using stock and opera here. seem stock is faster tho ( tried zoom in and out) seem stock is more responsive.
ps. from the guy comment above so i tried the Dolphin . oh and its better than opera
another updated : after played with Dolphin about an hr, i still think stock browser is faster and more responsive
first Firefox Mobile Beta, loving to have all my Desktop Bookmarks in sync
Second Stock Browser
I been using Dolphin Browser HD for month on dell streak and i gotta tell this is one of the best browser on Android. Desktop mode and On demand Flash Plugin is awesome.
I just installed Dolphin HD to see the difference and on the BBC website there is a hell of a difference. The stock browser is far smoother scrolling the page up and down than Dolphin HD
Opera Mobile
Opera Mobile is the fastest on heavy sites, for me.

Just a tip I just learned, i know some on XDA already know this,
but if you type about:useragent into the default browser, you get a dialog to pick desktop browser functionality and remove mobile pages.
I personally prefer default browser to any other so this is a good thing.
I know about the useragent ...trouble is you have to keep repeating the process after rebooting or.powering off. A pain after a while
Opera Mobile for me.
dolphin is my favorite
but I had to install opera in order to download all files confused:)
also for me the default browser is faster, but the comfortable features of dolphin no one have it
Stock browser is probably GPU accelerated like the SGS2. Dolphin HD isn't, and since the Note runs at a significantly higher res than the SGS2 it therefore is "slower" than the Stock browser.... at least until ICS comes out for the Note. Then it shouldn't matter since everything will be GPU accelerated.

stock browser vs chrome

Both from a factual view and a personal preference view what do you guys think is the better browser of the two?
I found with the jb update the Stock browser began to load faster than chrome although the keyboards generally still worked badly in forums, swype being worst.
With chromes new update I find it to be about equal. I've tried running the ms fish HTML test on both and it doesn't run well on either so I didn't find that a good test to give any solid facts but right now I prefer chorine purely based on using it to write in forums but other than that they seem to perform roughly equal as far add I can tell. What do you guys think?
To be honest I have not found any better than stock. I don't care for gestures, synch or any fancy features, all I want I a fast browser that doesn't lag while reading and rendering pages. Stock is awesome, chrome not so much. Flash seems to work on stock and if it didn't video and mx player do a good job.
I'd like, however, that it would organize pages as opera mobile does. Opera's brilliant in this. Sadly is rather buggy in other departments. That's the only thing I'm missing. Other than that, stock is just about perfect and that's what I use.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Premium App
Some good points well made, since Google make both browsers its strange that they should be so different though maybe stock is optimised to each device and chrome is one size fits all.
I love a lot of things about chrome but for raw speed as far as I can tell like you say, stock is the Best in that department. Difficult to Test without 2 phones
stock browser all the day
its faster smoother have more feature like full screen mode
but chrome has cool feature too but its suck :silly:
The stock app is awful, I have Firefox, Chrome and Skyfire installed on my S3
None. I don't like the stock browser's messy menu configuration. Chrome is just... odd. I rather enjoy Dolphin, but I've been using Boat Browser for a while now, and I've grown fond of it...

Chrome causes S3's running Jelly Bean to reboot when you use cut and paste, so I'd have to vote for the stock browser, or dolphin, or firefox, or any other browser.
Seriously, try it. Load up Chrome (on your GT-I9300 Galaxy S3) and long-press on an area of text, select some text and then either press on the selected text or press the copy icon (two overlapping rectangles). Do this between 1 and 20 times and your phone will reboot. It's great!
after so many months, the chrome browser sucks, i admit it looks nice, cool features, but its so laggy, even scrolling mobile sites, its a joke, i feel sorry for the nexus 4 owners
Nothing beats the fluidity of the stock browser. Sure, it might not be fully compatible with all the websites but it is miles better than having frustration over laggy scrolling found in Chrome.
Moreover, the browsing convenience and speed using Quick Controls is unmatched.
I don't know why Google doesn't implement these things in Chrome.
Stock is noticeably smooth in scrolling.
i think stock is better but chrome has better sync abilities with desktop
Back before I was an android user (and therefore didn't pay much attention) I'm sure I read that they intend to eventually replace stock with chrome as default browser in android... Is there any truth to this? I hope not, while I love having chrome I like to have the choice, and the different things that stock browser has.
I really want to like chrome... I really do. I keep giving it a chance for a few days every time they push an update out. The deal breaker for me is the lack of full screen mode and the relatively choppy scrolling in general - emphasis on 'relative' ! I guess if the stock browser wasn't so smooth (and very fast to use with quick controls) I would be perfectly happy with chrome.

The new JellyBean stock browser seems very nice, has some features from ICS Browser+, this is from my limited time playing with it at least. Which of them all probably would make this one my favorite browser, but of course it could be because it is new.

Couldn't put it better myself. I also "give it a chance" every now and then... but get annoyed about the same things as well as lack of flash support.
When referring to "stock" browser, I feel the cm10 stock browser is also far superior to stock Samsung however...

+1, totally agree. Though since I am making UCCW theme's, I kind off have to link my widgets to Chrome for universal support
Still use the Stock CM10 browser more though. Chrome sometimes feels slow and not so smooth when scrolling.

Loving the stock browser

I'm really enjoying using the stock browser on my One, it's a real plessure to use. As I do a lot of web browsing on my device this is very important to me. Plus the gorgeous display makes happy that I went and got myself the best phone on the planet.
ye its amazing cant wait to get my own one!
faster than chrome and/or dolphin?
I know on phones the stock browser is usually hardware rendered but these days chrome/dolphin are lightning quick
Can't remember if it came with Chrome or not. If it did then I must have removed it as a matter course.
Sent from my Tricked out HTC One via xda-developers application
It comes with Chrome pre-installed. Stock is slightly faster and supports Flash, but I prefer the Chrome integration across devices.
It looks great for sure. Does it still have text reflow?
Stock has yes.
I never thought i would switch from Chrome but the stock browser is extremely smoother and faster for a fairly intensive project i'm working on
The text reflow is perfect on the stock browser, that's why I'm using it.
I've also noticed it supports 16 tabs/windows at the same time!
I was getting pretty fed-up with the 5 tab limit on my Sensation ...
I must admit it's better than the S3 stock browser. I migrated to Chrome and prefer this day to day.
Is there a way to quick change tabs? It's one of the reasons I like chrome (swipe to change tabs)
But I am loving Chrome :victory:
I'm an avid chrome user but since getting this phone I've actually has no reason to actually use chrome over the default browser. It performs exceptionally well. Best stock browser I've used to date.

I dont know if you have to zoom out evertime when you load a page.
But as i tested the one in an o2 store, there was NOT A SINGLE LAGG in pinch to zoom or scrolling. It was the best browser i´ve ever experienced on any phone (tested the s3 and ip5 in the same store for example).

I like the stock browser as well, I.a. for it's flash capability. Funny thing: The Dropbox status (where you can see, who and which programs actually have access) recognizes the browser as SAFARI!!!

So stock browser is pretty bad, what alternative is there?

This is first time since Galaxy S2 time I had to check for another browser! The default browser always did the job for me, it's fluidity, smooth and fast performance was great, but Samsung f****d up big time with the S4 browser, it doesn't go to full screen, it lags....damn. So I installed the most popular browser, Dolphin, it's okay, but I don't like it, it lags too! Is there a fluid and smooth browser out there, I have tried Mozilla and Chrome, while I am a Chrome user for my desktop and I like Mozilla too, their mobile versions are nowhere near PC versions. I like Maxthon, it's really nice, but that blue dot at the bottom is a deal breaker. Any option left for me?
PS: I forgot to mention that I would like full screen option and flash support too.
Boat browser ... never experienced lag on it ... it's light and fast ... that's what i use at least despite i like chrome but chrome is too resource hungry and gets bloated sometimes
I'm using Opera. For me it´s better than chrome, which sometimes freeze the phone.
Only use UC browser very fast and full flash support. Download latest Flash apk from Adobe archive.

Try dolphin beta browser, smooth as butter for me.
And I agree, the stock browser on the S2 was incredible. They mucked things up on the S3 and that pattern continued to the S4.
Thanks guys. Tried Boat, it's a nice browser, liked the real time text wrapping of it. I also tried another browser called Next (from Go dev team) and I really like the UI of it. It's slightly less fluid than Boat, but I love that UI, currently settling for Boat, I wish the UI was better.

Best browser for SM-60x?

What browser do you use? I am trying to find the a browser that has the following features:
1. Smoothness. Must have hardware acceleration enabled. I find that UC Browser HD is good in this section.
2. Has good HTML5 support (tested from html5test.com). I find Dolphin has the best.
3. Has fast javascript.
4. Supports gestures.
5. Supports proper fonts as set by site. For example UC Browser uses system fonts and it sucks..
6. Supports flash.
From my findings so far with Exynos (P600):
UC Browser is the smoothest because of hardware acceleration, has gestures, has flash, html5 support is good but not good at rendering fonts.
Dolphin with jetpack is close in smoothness but swiping up and down is too fast and the page goes to its top or bottom by a slight touch. Has the best html5 support and the gestures are not so great as UC.
Chrome beta is a bit behind in smoothness, great html5 score but lacks in gestures and no flash. I don't even discuss Chrome (plain), it is very jerky.
Firefox is a big dissapointment. I think however that Note 3 is great with firefox. I need some opinions from the Note 10.1 2014 Snapdragon users for Firefox (P601, P605).
Maxthon sucks bigtime. Your opinions please and if there is a dev that can suggest a speedup for a browser is welcome.
PS: I use a SM-P600 and have CleanRom and Bindroid kernel.
Dolphin with JetPack is a very good combination for html5 support but without jetpack is far from Opera Browser...
i have tested a lot of web browsers and the best browsers i found were Opera Browser, Boat Browser, and UC Browser (this one always freezes with no reason)
Opera, for overall smoothness. I use Outlook. Com to check my emails and Opera does the best rendering for that site too. Only gripe is the tiny fonts.
Opera the best for me .

You guys might wanna try Habit Browser (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.ddo.pigsty.HabitBrowser). It is fast&smooth and extremly customizable. Probably the most feature packed browser in existance.
It takes some time to set it up and the menus might overwhelm at first but once you're done its amazing.
UC might become my primary browser in the future, but there are some issues (like font size) that need to be worked out first.
I use the aosp browser on this tablet and all my devices I find it fast enough and I like the quick controls

I am using different browser. They are: Chrome, Firefox, Stock Browser and Skyfire Web Browser.
But I use Chrome most often because it is synchronized with my PC chrome and it supports pages translation..
You got the right man here.... uc browser ftw dude xD..... i contacted the developers several times and they listened and added my features .... like the scrolling button which appears when you scroll very hard ... that comes from me telling them haha xD im their nr 1 tester xD.... I tested like almost every browser .... some come close but fail at smth....
And dude I advise you dont upgrade to kitkat... because you will have to stick with dolphin which freaking sucks your battery dry by playing flash.... 10 percent in 1 minute no lies happened to me.... if you have trouble with font size try ...exposed module "app settings" its awesome...you can even enable fullscreen mode which hides the status bar.... i am all about that stuff.... if you have more questions contact me... ill give you some advise.... those previous comments really have no clue what browsers to use ...... uc is the best ... i kinda would have wished for a decent firefox browser... but that thing is just so bad...... Uc browser dude there is nothing better... i even use an older version of it on my note 2 .... i wanted a browser which comes close to firefox on desktop.... uc is the choice.... other browsers have issues that casual user dont notice but there are there.... these ppl will recommend you any kind of random browser .... uc nails it for a great UI ... adblock and widget buttons... and much more.... it comes closer to perfection every update ... try contact the devs for the font issue..... it doesnt bother me ... so....
I use Firefox Beta because I can syncrhonize it with my desktop-firefox and it's the only browser that does not corrupt downloadsand websites of my university.
i use aosp brower
so so fast

There is no point just saying which browser someone uses without mentioning their model. The P600 is exynos which behaves differently than the P601/P605. Please state your browser along with your model as smoothness is subjective to the processor.
