[Q] OS and battery life - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
i've recently got into rooting and trying custom roms, sadly my intention was to gain maximum battery life but it seems the Eclair my mb525 red lense came with was its optimal, i am what you may call a "light user" and the phone spends most of its time on standby.
rough data:
stock eclair - over 50 hours
cm7 kernel+cm9 rom -around 20 hours of battery life
stock froyo - about 45 hours of work
now, i was hoping some one with the same device would share his experience regarding which rom\kernel gave you the longest run without a charger.
thank you.

Because of the controversy and arguments they inevitably generate, "best ROM" threads are prohibited on XDA (whether that be best battery life or any other aspect to a ROM). Thread closed.

Best ROM for battery life...

Well, I know that most ROMs claim to have better battery life and yada, yada, yada. But which one do you believe is the winner? I have only tried Fresh other than stock and I can't complain. But for you, which one do you feel offers the best battery life performance?!
Thanks in advance...
I got great battery life in DamageControl, but I dumped that for CyanogenMod.
This may not be the exact answer you were looking for, but I've found that using an underclocking kernel I get great battery life, even with the latest cyanogen nightly. You might want to try using SetCPU if you haven't done that already.
DamageControl
DamageControl v3.2.3 using DConfig with the profile set to battery Saver. My battery last for days (moderate use).
I believe t0ast3d de1ight has the best battery
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
All very subjective but I've been reading that Baked Snack is specifically geared towards battery life.
like above poasts state, rom does not matter, undervolt kernal + setcpu/phone setting settings does
cm heavy usage > 18 hours regular use 36 hours idle for days
Best I had was baked snack 9. 7 I got al most 24 hours on a charge with normal usage
Ava 2. 2v3 I. Got 18 hours
Cm6 barely 8 hours
sent with my evo from a secret place

I second this. I was using this setup before updating to official 2.2. I was getting about 5-6 hours of usage(I.e. When you're actually using your phone--Screen on browsing the web, using apps) plus around 20 hours of "Uptime" (standby, screen off).
I am getting equal or better battery life with the official 2.2 update. I am surprised I'm not seeing more people mention just how good battery life is with it.
BakedSnack with 3rd kernel did miracles for me

I also have been having good battery life on the official pre-release, just about on par with what I had running baked snack 9.6, which underclocked a good amount for battery life. Very pleased with the new release, I haven't had any problems going from a fresh wipe to this update.
I would bet most people haven't really noticed how good the battery life has been because they've been busy trying to restore backups, apps, and test out the camera functionality.
Best battery life I had was DC 3.2.3 with Battery config, SetCPU w/ undervoltage kernel, JuiceDefender, and Autostarts configed. Got about 26 hours moderate usage. I still get excellent battery life using the same setup on CM6, around 20-24 hours.
I'm getting great battery life with the leaked, stock 2.2
I think it is almost impossible to prove a rom has the best battery life when there are so many options/tweaks that can be done to every rom and all phones won't necessarily act the exact same.
Choose a rom based on functionality and features that appeal to you and then figure out how to obtain the battery life you want through different tweaks/usage. They all can have great battery life.

I believe people that have tried multiple ROMs can accurately assess which is better/worse in terms of battery life. Obviously there can be variations due to tweaks, apps, and usage, but it isn't difficult to get a sense of where you stand. I know I noticed a drastic increase coming from stock to Fresh.

True, what I should have said was without testing yourself and keeping variables the same, you can't just take the word of others.

Battery life AGAIN!

I was on IRC a couple of nights ago asking a simple question about battery stats when I get the bull**** answer from one of the community's finest.
Thanks to the other IRC member who was able to give a reasonable and respectable answer. I think it was Micellis.
Anyway, the whole battery situation on my phone has been like this: I flash whatever rom tickled my fancy and as long as things worked with a minimum of fuss and gave good battery life I would keep it on.
In the search for the good battery life I have flashed just about everything that was pretty much fully operational(still waiting for that Death Star build...) and came across only one that gave decent life. Superclean 2.6Voodoo.
For the sake of experimentation I proceeded on to 2.7.1V and 2.8V as well as DR1V and now DR2V. Since SC2.6V I have went back to bad battery life and I started checking Spare Parts for battery stats and noticed that my phone would flatline and 3,500ish mV. Apparently the phone should be kicking the bucket when it is around 3,000mV.
Now with DR2V I am back to what I feel is normal and the only thing I have done is do a full charge and run the bstats zip from Adrynalyn and the thing is using the battery in a much more miserly manner.
It still isn't accurately reporting yet as I am at 3,823mV at 56% after 4h:45m but under normal circumstances the battery would be at 25% right now and hit rock bottom come 3,500mV. The battery life is at a stand still when the screen is off and nothing being used which is an amazing thing to witness as it usually drops 10% an hour or more.
My hope is that after a few full charges and discharges the phone will start using what available battery is there and really kick up the mpg's.
For what it is worth, my battery is currently at 3595 mv at 3% remaining. It is at 36 hours of use including 4.5 hours of display on. I am running 2.1 DL09 though with no voodoo and no UV.
At least for me, it turns out that 3500ish mv is a perfectly acceptable reading for ending a decent day of battery life, so perhaps it is being misreported or there is more to the equation.
Swyped w/ XDA App. A clean tie attracts the soup of the day.

[Q] Battery Life and ROMs

Hey guyz, I just got an X10 used, it was running on a Wolfbreak ROM and the year old battery drains 4% per hour on minimal use and even just burning a mere 3% in 3 hours when screen off, I was quite satisfied with that bcoz I understood it was a used up old battery but the ROM was just so buggy and it's prone to freezes and glitches so my friend told me to do a full wipe and get back to stock gingerbread 2.3 and i did but the problem is the battery life got even worse, it burns 10% per hour(even when screen off) now. I tried everything, advanced task killer(aggressive, when screen off, security level low), turning off wifi/bt/gps/background data syncing, I set brightness to 25% but it's still like that.
TLDR: ROM was buggy so I went to stock gingerbread and Battery life got worse when I went to stock gingerbread
So I've decided to resort to having a custom ROM again, which ROM is the best for battery life?
the answer might be Wolfbreak and the one I had wasn't that stable
EDIT: or maybe post an alternative method of improving battery life, that I wasn't aware off lol

Why stock Roms have better battery life than Custom Roms

Why stock Roms have better battery life than Custom Roms. I am on DEFY CM9. Froyo had a better life. I know that kernels are different. I wanna is there anyway to increase battery life like stock roms.
That may be your case. For me, CM9 has better battery life than CM7. Stock Froyo was so bad that I barely made it through the day with one charge. It's almost impossible to make a battery usage chart, since it depends mostly on independent variables (starting with the CPU, because each is different and not all can work with lower voltages, and ending with the main culprit, the user).

I hate Stock ROMs but motorola says. Defy has a standby back up of 400 hours but i am on CM9 it gives only 16hours of backup with minimal usage.

The quoted standby time is the maximum under 'ideal' conditions. Wanna check it, turn off your network data, no vibration, no video, no browsing, no music. I tested my defy+, and it lasted for almost 5 days on CM7.
Besides, battery consumption does depend on ROM and usage. A more performance oriented ROM will definitely use more battery. Good thing with custom ROMs, you can tweak the system as per your usage habits.

My friend, never trust the official values, given by the producer (this goes from phones to cars), regarding the battery life or consumption. They are recorded in an ideal environment, with strong signal, a certain value for the temperature and no usage at all. I get around 40 hours with CM9.

[Q] Best android ROM for battery life?

So I have NAND android on my HD2, currently the Nexus HD2 ICS ROM, and I've noticed that I'm getting only 9 hours out of my phone with wifi off, and only using it VERY occasionally to send a text message (link to picture). This is a bit ridiculous, if I use my phone for anything more, such as drowning out obnoxious idiots with some Alan Parsons Project through my earbuds, or I decide I want to play a game for about 15 minutes, I won't be able to get my phone to last through a full school day!
My question is this: What Android ROM for the HD2 will get me the best battery life? ICS, JB, GB, hell even Froyo. I don't care. I need battery life.
One thing I haven't tried is wiping battery stats or installing any Android "helpers", but I think the question of what ROM get the most out of a battery is a valid question.
Post your ROM, battery life, usage, and if possible include a picture similar to mine.
use juice defender if you are using 3g mutch. and when you rly dont need the phone put it in airplane mode. i have 21h 45m and still 67% texting mutch 20 mins phone calls a day some xda and web browsing.
It isn't a valid question purely because there are so many threads asking exactly the same thing, any of which you could have used instead of creating a new thread. Search before posting in future.
In terms of your question, as I have on multiple other threads I'm going to say that battery life depends largely on usage, not on the ROM. Generally GB ROMs will drain less than ICS or JB ROMs, but what I do is to use a combination of SetCPU and JuiceDefender to maximise my battery life. I get a basic drain of 1% every 1.5ish hours, which is fine for me. As long as my phone lasts the day (which it often does with over 60% left) I'm happy.
