[Q]Volume Rocker Wake - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I am using paranoid android the latest stable before 2.99 and cannot wake my screen using the Volume Rocker
I have it set to on. and it maybe works within the first 3s after a screen is off but any longer and it wont wake the screen.
I have toggled it off, rebooted; toggeld back on, rebooted. But no luck.
If anyone knows any fixes to this or any tips that would be awesome, thanks.

:what:
Just use the button right next to the volume key. Really its not any different. Works just like the volume buttons. Just apply sufficient pressure as to cause the surface of the key to become flush with the side of the device and you're good to go.

power button wake up problem

is anyone having issues with waking up this phone? Randomly to get the screen back on I will have to press the power button about four times for the screen to come back on. its really starting to bug

press harder. I learned quickly that it takes a firm push and you have to hit the button w/o your fingers getting caught up on the sides of the phone.
it's either that or you got a bad button
I have the same issue, this along with the lag I get at times when I attempt to use the camera has me seriously considering returning this phone. The Inspired I returned had non of these issues just a tinny speaker.

Mine wouldnt go to sleep today when pushing the button. Seems to be a few bugs with this phone eh?
I'm starting to look at re-mapping the keyword to allow the volume keys to wake it up, and then use the fingerprint reader to unlock it. That power button seems to fragile to me. To turn the screen off I just use Extended Controls.
Any thoughts?
Widget locker has an option to use the vol buttons for wake
I kinda have the same problem but its when i press the lock button the screen shuts off but then comes right back on. I press it again, it shuts off, then comes right back on.
I had the same problem - power button wouldn't wake phone from sleep.
I had to do a battery pull to resolve the issue.
I'm using the lastest FW.
Motorola phones (Not just Atrix, but Droid X also) have some funky business that sometimes prevents/delays the screen from turning on, even if the button press is registered. This happens with the power button and also the volume buttons if they're used to wake the device (Like with WidgetLocker). I haven't been able to narrow it down, but I suspect it's related to (ab)use of PowerManager's preventScreenOn()

It sounds logic to me, because even editing the right keyboard file to add a wake_dropped to the volume down, it won't turn on the screen. I hate when they change things the way they do with this, the bootloader, etc.

How to turn on screen with volume buttons?

So on my Nexus 7 I have the app "WidgetLocker" installed and there's an option to wake up the device with the volume buttons but it doesn't work. Even with my Nexus 7 rooted and root helper on in Widgetlocker it doesn't work. Anyone know of a method to turn the screen on without the power button (I've gotten this fear of it not working since my Nexus One was victim to the infamous broken power button). No suggestions on magnet wake up please! Thanks.

it works perfectly on my nexus s and galaxy nexus. but strangely, it works 5 out of 7 times on my nexus 7
I use Wake Up Screen. I shake the device to start it. The number of shakes and the intensity are customizable. I also use a shaking app to turn off.

Is it possible to wake mytouch with buttons on CM 7 Nightlies?

Hi i really like CM 7 nightlies, but it's kinda annoying to wake the phone by the power button and my trackpad is broken. I know that there is a wake by volume button option but i prefer not to use it because i listen to music a lot and waking the screen every time i change the volume and turning off the screen is annoying. So i was wondering if there is an app or some option in the settings that i missed that enables wake by any other button like the home or genius button?

[Q] Power button not working

Hi,
after unlocking and rooting my Nexus 4 I flashed the franco-kernel. I did these steps with the ToolKit. But now when I start my phone I can press the power button once and it offers me to shut it down. After that there is no reaction when pressing the power button. I tried to reset the Nexus but I still get the same error. Can anyone help? Thanks!
EDIT: My nexus just turned off the screen and I was able to reactive it by pushing the powerbutton. What works all the time is shutting down the phone by long pressing.
From your initial post it sounds like it might be sticking..

I don't think that it's hardware related. It might be a software issue. Sometimes the screen stays on for ever unless I open an app and close it again. It seems the phone doesn't know what to do when the button is pressed.
EDIT: When connected to PC I can use the button only to power off the phone. I can't wake it...weird

[Q] Nexus 4 died weirdly

ROM: Cyanogenmod
Android OS ver.: 4.4.2
Device: Nexus 4
Apparently, using CleanMaster to clear up RAM and locking my phone at the same time is a bad combination.
My Nexus 4 is now bricked somehow.
I remember my battery is about 60% and above.
My "Hold" button is broken so I used Cyanogenmod's double tap on status bar to lock screen function mostly.
The "Hold" button will work if I pressed the "Sweet" spot.
I tried calling my Nexus 4 and there's a dial tone but my Nexus 4 do not have any indication that there's a call.
No vibration or ringtones.
There isn't any LED light indicating my phone is in critical state.
I believe my Nexus 4 is still "Online" as I still can call it.
Please help! What should I do now? I think I'm the first one to have this problem.

Well, I don't know if i'm pressing the "Sweet" spot but I tried holding for more than 60 seconds. Nothing happens.
I think my phone is having CPU or RAM lock?
Any more ideas to force reboot my device? :crying:

I've tried and held it more than 60 seconds again.
both holding Volume up + Power and Volume down + Power doesn't work.
Thanks for the suggestions though!
I'm still confused.. why did this happened? :l
Oh.!!! After constantly pressing volume up and down with power button and power button alone.
I couldn't tell if my phone had shut down, I tried calling my phone and there was no dial tone!
I tried powering on at the same time and a logo on the screen came up!
My phone is working fine now!
Lesson learned: Do not Clear RAM with Clean Master and lock screen at the same time.
Current Battery Level: 25%
Thank you all!

glad it's working. just to let you know you don't need to clear ram since Android 2.0 eclair. So don't use those apps.
