Recently, I've noticed that the CRT-off animation is faster than it normally was. Has anyone else experienced this? I haven't messed with the animation speeds.

It seems just fine, but I can't really say if it was slower. Do you mean faster compared to another phone?
Well it only appears to be doing part of the notification. I'll do a factory reset and see if that fixes it.

Completely from memory, it does look a little bit quicker than on previous devices.

I'm guessing I'm not the only one then.

Oh yeah. It is like twice the speed it was on my HD2. It is nice, but if it was a bit 'slower' it would be more noticeable / showy . hmm. Maybe that is why they changed it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe slower would have made it look worse because IPS screens don't turn off pixels when displaying the color black.

Just got a nexus s 4g yesterday. Like it so far. Bit when I woke up this morning the screen looked like it was a much lower resolution. Looks like little dots on every line etc.
Grabbed my wife's evo and her icons look much smoother as I can not see this on hers at all.
Anyone else see anything similiar? It kind of looks like stipulation if that makes any sense (using colored dots to make a picture).
Any comments ate appreciated.

If you look very close at the screen it looks pixilated but from a decent distance it should look great, I had an evo before the nexus and IMO the nexus screen is worlds better than the evo.

That's how amoled screens are. Read up a little on the difference between LCD and amoled and you'll see that the amoled has less pixels, making it less clear than LCD.

I am new to this type of screen so just wanted to make sure my phone was OK. Thanks for the input guys and if you have any links to send please do.
P.s. I read the previous AOMLED screens were worse due to sub pixel layout.

Ours does use the worse pentile matrix sub pixel layout. Its the newer SAMOLED Plus that doesn't.

I usually keep my phones on full brightness. I'll deal with the battery draining because I love how it looks with full brightness. Has anyone noticed the display on the n4 kind of adjusting sometimes. I have noticed sometimes it changes to a little darker or a little brighter while using the phone.
I also noticed when I am talking on the phone with the speaker on sometimes it shuts when opening an application or sometimes even without opening an app and switches to regular ear piece. Sometimes it will stay on speaker but go lower.
Anyone having these issues? Its not a deal breaker or anything I still love it. I know phones will always have their issues, I've had ever nexus and the g1. I just want to know if other people are having this issue.

Its not auto brightness, my phone does the same thing. Its hardly noticeable but I find it strange too

My guess is glitch hardware. Lg is known for making inconsistent quality. Terrible QA. Just because its made in Korea doesn't means its better than in China.

I don't know how you can use this display on full brightness it's too damn bright! Strains my eyes. lol I tend to keep mine around the 25% mark
It's adaptive contrast, runs independent of your brightness settings and there's not an option to disable it. You probably notice it most when moving from a largely black screen to a white one.
I think I remember first hearing about it's use in a Galaxy S2 review, my TV does the same thing on its dynamic setting.

Hello guys.
I don't know if it is just me but I can't see a big difference between medium and max bright, you obviously can tell it changed a bit but it's not like other devices I've had before, although the difference between min and max is way bigger, just wanted to know if this is a normal standard thing or some kind of issue. Thanks.

Can confirm that. A bit weird that the other half of the slider is like doing nothing. Its like the volume slider on the galaxy nexus.. After the half, the music won't go noticeable louder... Weird... Maybe a 4.2 problem idk..

But after knowing that 4.2 brought a lot of bad stuff I think maybe this too... Only a guy or girl that had it for a few months can help us

So I rooted and froze all I felt comfortable with (almost all of the bloat and non used) and seemed to have a few more moments of jitters. I thought it was my fast moving in and out of apps, or my games causing the hardware to stumble, but now think its totally hardware.
My question is, after switching to force GPU settings in developer options, has anyone noticed it stopping? Or at least a marked decrease in episodes?
Disable HW overlays and force GPU rendering of 2d being the two options I'm using. I just started last night and already I'm noticing things seem much snappier and no stutters.

I did not have force GPU selected. I just turned it on and will see if it makes a difference.

Yeah I noticed a jitter now and again, seems it was more placebo than cure. The setting did make the phone a little faster in response though.

Been running it with the force GPU on. I still see the problem but I don't think I see it as much.

I think its definitely a hardware issue. Seems like most people report it after they flash a new ROM, stock based or not.

A couple years ago, back when I had the HTC Evo4g, Crackanug made a boot animation at my request. I still have the file, bit the animation isn't sized properly for the Nexus 4. Would anyone be up to the task of resizing the file? Of course, it would be available for anyone to use.
I just need to figure out how to add the file with the XDA app...
Edit: here's the link to the animation, if anyone is up to it: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0Bz99F3aNUgdGWUI5dTh4bzZINjg/edit?usp=docslist_api

The pictures all have low resolutions. It wouldn't look good on a Nexus 4 if I scale it up to make it fit. Do you still wanna do it? May I ask, if there are higher res pics?
Btw, ice-hockey ftw

I have no idea about higher res pictures. The animation was completely created by crackanug.

But it would really looks pixelated on a N4. Believe me you could count every pixel if I scale it up. It is really a waste on a HD screen...
Anyway, stay tuned for the next days. I will work on it.

Cool... I put it into my phone, and was shocked at how small the images were... Was hoping it would be something easy (a change in the desc file, etc.). Would be nice to get this one on my nexus 4... I do understand the limitation with pixels though.

Here is the bootanimation. There are two versions, a fullscreen one and a default one. Try them out and give me feedback. I hope you like it!

The default one looks amazing. The only issue is size. That being said, the resolution is to notch.
The full screen one looks good too. AD you said, it is a bit pixelated, but not so much that our destroys the animation. I wouldn't want to watch a movie with that level of pixelation, but for the short amount of time it is actually seen, the quality looks good.
