Yay so I'm really happy about the iconia so far. The whole no acees to SD card through computer while connected to the computer will take some getting used to, but its the wifi that'll probably get this sent back. It's really bad. I've reset the connection half a dozen times since last night because it keeps hangin and can only downloads app when in the same room with the router.
Now the issue is that I'm laying beside the router now and getting 2 bars. If I sit up I get 3 bars. Yippee. The signal in the bedroom, on the first floor, get maybe 1 bar and I can't stream or download anything in there. I never get a great wifi signal in there', but its between 2 and 3 bars on my phone and netbook,. I wondered if there might be some interference so brought up the handy wifi analyzer and found 4 other wifi signals all on the first channel, so now my router is on channel 11. It didn't help any :-\
So if I exchange it, will the new unit possibly be an improvement? Is this just the way it is?
I noticed that the connection quality drops sharply the further away you are, but atleast on my tablet it still doesn't drop as sharply as in your case. I have the router here in living room and I get 65Mbps, everything works fine. Then if I move to bedroom or kitchen it drops to something around 20Mbps, yet it still works just fine.
What type of router do you use.I have a newer netgear with no issues my router is in the basement at front of house almost under the front porch.concrete ceiling above it. I can go out to my back yard approximately 200 feet and still get 1 bar and OK speed.I do notice. That the indicator bars do not exactly deplict your signal strength.
I also know there is a issue with some routers and the network card in this device I read in a thread long back.you have to turn off n or g feature I think it was.but do firmware update on router as well might help.not all routers are created equally Linksys sucks in my book. Lately
I can also see neighbors wifi signal but 1 bar they are 500 feet. Prob could not connect thou
Wish you lots of luck
hmmmmm
You could have a faulty Wi-Fi antenna ...
More likely, you are using a cheap router or a router with out of date firmware. Have you checked to make sure you have kept your router up to date with the latest firmware?
Also, have you tested this with other routers? If a multitude of routers show the same issue - you likely have a hardware problem with the a500 - if only your router shows this problem, then likely it is a problem with your local router.
a different unit MAY help, but I would try friends routers n such. My router blows but I can still stream Netflix no problem all the way across the house. I can't even do that on my laptop which has a beastly card. +1 for updating your router and device though, that might help.
Thanks for the replies. I have an old Motorola sbg900. I think I bought it 2 years ago. I have noticed that the iconia doesn't see as many networks as my phone does and the speedtest results are interesting. I left everything default in the app. By the router, I get 9 mb/s with the iconia vs 7 mb/s with the phone. In the bedroom, I get. .8 mb/s on the iconia and almost 6 mb/s on the phone. That is a huge drop and gap :'( I'll look up updating the router. I've never had connection problems before and we have 2 desktops upstairs plus both me and my roommates phones and both laptops and the wii and xbox. I just hope I can get some signal improvements on this nifty device.
sounds like firmware or...
I would find a friend with a different type of wifi router and test your connection with it. That way you get a pretty good indication of if you have a issue with your router or an issue with your Iconia.
Bother, my work wifi allows me to connect, but doesn't allow me to do anything with the connection. I am connected, but cannot do a speedtest. Relying only on bars the phone gets all 4 while the iconia gets only 3. The iconia also only sees 3 of the wifi signals in the building while my phone picks up 7 plus an open adhoc network. I know, it's time to visit with some friends so I can do a second test or maybe this is an excuse to go out for lunch today
ETA: At McDonalds, both devices had 3 bars and identical download and upload speeds. I've gone ahead and ordered a cheap $20 wireless n router to see if that improves things. It should arrive tomorrow, but since it's coming via UPS, it may not arrive until Monday.
Is anybody experiencing wireless signal strength issues with Nexus 10 ?
In the same room with the router the signal strength drops from excellent to none and back at will. Router is fine, I have other devices (apple and windows based) which have no such issue.
Yes I noticed the same issue.
No issues with my one, I have my router in the same room too and I'm getting full strength. Occasionally it drops by one bar momentarily.
Is it just the on screen meter showing the fluctuation or are you actually losing connectivity?

I notice that download speed drops significantly when that happens
Yeah for me too. When this issue appears I'm doing a speed test and the speed is slow as hell.

Hm, this is a concern. Is that new MIMO wifi thing too new to be released in a product? Hope not.
No issues for me, stable connection all around the house, even in the kitchen where my phone sometimes loses WiFi signal.
Thought I'd post a quick update. I set my IP to be static on Nexus and looks like signal got a bit stronger, it's Max or 3 bars without random dropping. Will see how it goes.

THis is a problem between Android and your router. Certain routers just have this issue, usually because they are not designed a specific way and do one thing or another out of official spec. This causes an Android device to drop out of connection every couple minutes or so. The biggest problem that causes this is routers that do not have a DHCP lease time set up. There are other causes too, but that was a major one. Also make sure you have wifi sleep mode set to never (I think it defaults to off when screen is off), and if you can also set your wifi mode to high performance (usually a kernel feature and I doubt we have it on this tablet yet)
Now this isnt talking about weak strength or losing bars. What I am describing is specifically for Android based devices that can have fine strength and then suddenly at any random time completely drop the connection to nothing, and then try to reconnect once more. Over and over

MIMO is OLD by now. Been around for years
I wanted to chime in here, because I was getting frustrated as well. I was having all sorts of trouble connecting to the 5Ghz signal from my Linksys e4200: sometimes it would show a connection but I wouldn't have internet access, other times the signal was super weak and unreliable. I went into my router's settings and changed the channel width to Auto (20Mhz or 40Mhz) and that resolved the problem immediately.
I hope this helps someone!
I am having a similar issue. Sitting about 10 feet from my router and my signal strength, bars, is down to 1. I know bars mean nothing but this is concerning.
Hopefully this is just a software issue. I have a spare wireless N router that I am going to hook up and use it just for the nexus to see if it helps.

Good question. I was actually thinking about creating a thread for this, but then I saw this! Anyway, I'm in my apartment where I usually get three out of four bars on my HTC one x, but on this tablet I'm getting between one and two, they switch from one to two nearly every ten seconds so maybe I'm right on the edge.
However, so far I have no complaints about Wi-Fi strength - I'm watching Netflix without any problems, browsing chrome is fast, and downloading apps has been fast. These are not very scientific tests, but in normal use it has been adequately speedy. Oh, except when I streamed the free HD video (I won't say which title in case anyone is trying to avoid " spoilers"), it switched from HD to standard definition a few times. could that have just been because lots of new N10 users were accessing it?

Not only do I not have signal issues, but the Nexus 10 is picking up about twice as many wifi networks as my Acer A500 or my DroidX, and no they aren't 5ghz, just better range.
Mine is. So far so good but I don't have a dual band router so I only have 2.4 GHz enabled' its definitely has better radio than my Acer iconia I tested both next to eachother. With Wi-Fi analyzer
I have the same problems... My WiFi signal is as good as it in my Hox, but sometimes my WiFi connexion drop and disappear, just to return after 1-2 seconds. Not sure if this could be a problem with my ****ty router but I have never experienced this "drops" with my phones or computers

You didn't have any issues with WiFi analyzer? Did you use it in the view that does signal strength of nearby networks as curves?

I've just done. I noticed that my WiFi signal had many "ups and downs", even using it in the same room where my router is. The signal wasn't very stable so I decided to use my phone as a router and connect the tablet. I have been browsing for a while with my phone WiFi network and I haven't suffer any drops. Signal has been stable so far and with the app WiFi analysed I get much better results.
So I think there is not any problem with the tablet. Somehow it is no it very "compatible" with my router. Not sure if the MIMO technology doesn't get along with my old router

I've tried something that seems to help, although it doesn't fix it completely. I accessed into my router's advance settings and changed the "signal interval" from 100 to 10 msec. Not sure this will apply to anyone, but it helped people with similar issues in their iPhone 5 WiFi signal. As I said, my signal seems more stable now

Every time i connect nexus 4 to my home wi-fi. Every other device gets terrible connection speed... Before nexus 4 my Nexus 7 had steady speeds up to 20mbps. With nexus 4 connected speeds go down to 5-3 mbps and even when i disconnect n4 from my home wi-fi router still acts really strange and i have to reboot it. Anybody experienced anything like that?

I have three desktop computers, an iPad, an iPod, a Roku unit, and two smartphones sharing the same wifi signal. My speeds don't seem to vary any regardless of the number of devices sharing it at any given time. I would have to call my service provider if I found myself in your situation.

Yep, same.
To the op, I'd say either reboot the router (which you probably have done) and / or see if there's a firmware update for the router.
If no cure, call your internet provider.
Ok.. Forgot to mentioned that n4 also loses wifi connection from time to time.

I have seen this before. It happens in mixed networks (old B laptop used to crash the WiFi AP when G clients were also connected).
1) Check for a firmware update to your router. This is most likely where your issue is. The router speed should drop and increase as needed, but buggy firmware may only keep in last slowest speed until a reboot.
2) Mixed encryption (WPA & WPA2) is a nightmare Force "WPA2 only with AES only" -or- "WPA only with TKIP only". Some clients may try to use WPA with AES and this was what was crashing my AP at the time.
3) If you still have issues, try using "G&N" only, or even force G only. Some older G clients don't hear N traffic, so they just transmit on top of it.
4) Last resort, look for a used router that can run DD-WRT firmware. Personally, I will never go back to OEM router firmware.
Hope this helps...
i used Wi-Fi Analyzer and it showed 2 really strong signals on the same channel.. one being mine and the other someone's else. i manually changed it from 11 to channel 5 and everything back to normal/// 20mbps just like before!

Hi every one. I just got my N4 last week and i experiense the exact same thing!!!!
this is realy bad because every time i use the wireless network every body in the house starts complaining because my N4 shuts down all connections here.
It works alright with the main router wich is a thomson. but it fails with the other two routers (that are Belkin - N) that are only access points!
I realy want this fixed because not having internet at home is quite bad!
Hey kids.
I came from the S3 the beginning of November. One of the "new" annoyances I've come across is a notification that the wifi connection Internet speed is too slow. Which is bull. The only way to reconnect after that is to reboot. Sometimes enabling airplane mode does it as well. So my question is twofold. Has anyone else come across this? Has anyone figured out how to turn this stupid setting off?
Thanks in advance.

I haven't encountered any of these problems. My Wi-Fi signal it's weak at times, but when I have a good connection internet speed is fast
If I helped hit thanks!!
im not saying this will fix your problem, but i was getting these messages as well. I switched my wifi power saving off via service menu. I also changed my router band from 2.4ghz to 5ghz 40 bandwidth and i havnt seen the message in about 2 weeks.

Thanks. Actually did the power save to off this morning. Happened again this afternoon. As far as switch to 5ghz, I've found that my wifi signal's reach gets cut by about 20-30 feet on that band. Which means I lose reception in part of my basement. I can move my router more centrally in the house, but overall speed suffers (goes from a solid 8-10mbps connection to about 1.5 mbps) cuz the wiring to that receptical is sketchy.
I can get that stupid message in the same room as the router.

yeah 5ghz band will cut your signal strength in half probably. Maybe buy a dual band wireless access point? Its wierd that your speed goes down on 5ghz. Mine practically doubled on my note 3. My house connection is 100mbps / 5mps. On 2.4ghz i can only get up to 30 mbps, when i enabled 5ghz wifi, i shot up to ~110mbps down.

that's ridiculous... buy another router or access point? Its the phone, not the internet, when you get the notification when you're right next to the router. The Note 3 is the only device on my house giving me Wi-Fi issues. Sorry I don't mean to sound like an arse, but it seems silly to buy a phone and have to replace your router, when everything else works just fine with the WiFi signal.
Just to clear up, speed goes down when I connect to the other phone plug. So my router (brand new, furnished by internet provider) is on one side of my house. And this happened before moving in mid Nov as well. Before was cable Internet, now dsl. It's the best thing I can get @ current location.
I'm not sure if it will actually solve anything, but I received the latest update ota. Tomorrow gonna download latest firmware and flash via odin avter wiping everything with safestrap.

Kancerstick pretty much had it right. Rather than switching the band from direct 2.4 to 5.0 though, go into your router settings and look for a setting that says "channel".
What channel are you running on? There are 1-11 channels, try different ones or the idea is to find the one that matches the channel of the phone/client device

The one solution that did work for me was to go into the WIFI Settings -> Advanced option under the menu key -> Uncheck the "Auto network switch" option. I haven't had any further issues with that message so far.
tried everything...
I think I have tried everything on this issue. I got my note 3 a few days ago and it will not keep a stable network connection. tried:
1. uncheck the auto switch
2. turn off mobile networks
3. turn off wifi when sleeping
4 changed my router to static ip and not DCHP
5. forget and reconnect to network
6. reset router
I don't thing I can change my router settings anymore or I will have issues with other equipment
I am sitting right next to my router and everything else works fine but my note 3 will not keep a connection. I keep running speed test and half the time it works and half the time I get a no connection error.
Any other thoughts? Should I try another unit?
Hi there,
i found that all 5GHz wifi will disappear sometime and only 2.4GHz wifi were left even the signal is very good.
Not only mine but also my neighbor's 5GHz wifi was gone too so i can confirm that there is no problem with my router.
but it can be solved by restarting WIFI in setting menu.
is that a hardware bug or software bug? have anyone facing this problem too? :crying:
ps: using stock rom 4.5.5 & stock kernel
I've too, but disappear and restore itself.

I have the exact same issue, I have 2 separate routers, one upstairs and one downstairs. The one upstairs is a 2.4ghz router and the one downstairs a dual-band router with separate SSID's for the bands, sometimes when I come downstairs I can only see the 2.4ghz SSID not the 5ghz one.

but the 5ghz one shown when u restart wifi, right?
Have you guys already contacted OnePlus about this? I have a few days ago, and I'm currently still in touch with them to find out why this happens.
I for example have the problem, that sometimes the data throughput using 5 GHz networks is absolutely zero, no data is transferred at all (tested with iperf3) and then sometimes it resumes but other times I have to disable WiFi entirely (disable background scan to do that) and reconnect and only then it would start communicating again.
BTW: I'll include a link to this thread on my ticket with them, so that they can see I'm not alone with WiFi issues on the 5 GHz band.
