[Q] power button - Bravo General

Hello, is there any way to get my BRAVO to power on with one of the volume buttons? My power button only works every great once in a while, and now, if it powers off, I have to get to the bootmenu on the blue light before it goes to the battery charge indicator while it's plugged into a charger. then I have to fiddle with the power button while I have REBOOT selected. I would buy another one and install it, but I fear it may be the connector on the main board, and I don't want to break anything else while trying. the button seems to click just fine. it just doesn't register on the phone.
I use a screen off app and the volume button wake when the phone is turned.
all suggestions are appreciated.

Use Rom Toolbox by JRummy. There's a Rebooter widget that allows you to Reboot, Fast Reboot, Reboot Recovery\Bootmenu, Power Off, Restart SystemUI. I have the Pro version (highly recommended app to have), but I think the Lite\Free version has that feature as well. On CM10, select Rom Toolbox from the Widget Screen (app drawer) then select Rebooter -- for some reason, selecting Rebooter from the Widget Screen doesn't work (never shows up on desktop). Its a really good widget to have if you're running Paranoid and changing up your dpi values.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure my BRAVO has burned up now. about 5 hours ago it just shut off while I was using it, and now I can't get the charge LED to come on. The shutting off thing really isn't anything new,but the LED thing is. It used to shut off a lot; sometimes I couldn't get it to stay on for more than five minutes, and other times it would be fine for a couple weeks.
I finally took the phone apart figuring that it couldn't hurt anything since the phone wont turn on anyway. The power button itself was physically fine. (at least from what I can tell) I didn't see anything out of the ordinary.
I was wanting a faster phone anyway, but I really liked that phone. These BRAVOs really have some great development going on for them. Thanks for the help Skeevy.

I'm beginning to think that this phone is possessed. it was sitting on my desk not even plugged in and it just turned on for no reason. absolutely no reason whatsoever.

That really sucks. You weren't running a Defy CM10 Custom Kernel rom were you? If so, that may be the problem -- it ships with the 526 battd and once it fully dies you have to charge on a wall charger and pray. I almost had that issue myself -- installed rom before work and forgot to push the 525\520 battd. Luckily I made it home with 3% battery left and was able to push and charge -- well, I accidentally set it with 644 permissions and the led wouldn't come on, phone wouldn't charge, yada yada...had 1% left when I did the 755 chmod...makes me wonder if that was your problem as well. If it was (wrong permissions on battd) your only solutions are the MacGuyver cable\Motorola Factory Cable or use another Bravo\Defy to charge your battery on an external battery charger.
I really hope you're not screwed. 2013 is looking to be a good year for the platform. Custom Kernels, Jellybean, AOSP. Luckily Bravo's are really cheap now. I've seen some on eBay for cheaper than the parts to fix them.
Good luck on finding a new phone. Every time I find a phone I want it either AT&T modified it and locked the bootloader --
Xperia TL (I think L means locked down), its not for my network, or it costs too much for my budget (Note 2). I'd have a TL on the way if it weren't for the locked bootloader -- Thanks AT&T, you're awesome. After looking, I can pick up an HTC One X for $49.95 -- may be my new phone.

The one thing I didn't like about the one x was the non removable battery. What's your thought on that?

As far as I know I'm on the stock kernel; I'm on your cm7 Kang. I really can't figure this thing out. It's still shutting of on me after being on for about two minutes( that's if it even makes it past the red "M") , but if I plug it into a wall charger it powers on and stays on and doesn't shut off until I unplug it, and then other times it stays on for about 30 seconds after I unplug the charger then shuts off. I might just need a new battery. it was fine the day before last.
I've seen the ones on ebay, the one just needs a digitizer, and I have that. I would have to go with t-mobile to get another phone unless I save up.I had a new until I hard bricked it a couple weeks ago. It was a Pantech BURST that I bought unlocked for $160. the clockwork mod that was built for it rewrote all the boot partitions when it wasn't supposed to. So now I have a $160 paper weight sitting on my desk.
Also, when did all this stuff about kernels start happening. I was gone for a month, and now I have no idea about whats going on.

That and the no sdcard slot makes it a deal breaker....Its one of the phones that I can get cheap on upgrade, but those 2 "features" make me not want it -- my Bravo has more storage than the OneX -- 18gb via sdcard and that's not enough for me (I keep 12Gb of music on my sdcard, would be 15gb but I only have the one 16gb card and need room for nandroids and roms.) Perhaps I'll just hit someone with my 3lb sledge and take their Note 2.

Either bad battery or bad connections (wipe them with alcohol) I guess. Picked up a battery for $7 last night (found them for cheaper, but I was already on newegg getting a 4 pin to sata power converter -- only have one sata power cable on my power supply and either I use it for my 2tb hard drive or dvd drive -- 2tb drive won).
Looks like the Pantech Burst is easy to brick...Apparently CWM 6 flashes a bad recovery. CWM 5 reported to work just fine. Sucks that there's no PIT or SBF type file for you to use. Maybe one will be leaked and that'll unbrick you.
About 2 months ago MS2 user Czechop managed to make a 2nd-boot module load a custom kernel WITH radio. Sources were released about a week later and Quarx had a custom kernel up and running in no time. Defy JB 2nd-Boot roms run an updated 2.6 kernel and a 3.0 kernel is in the works . Sadly, the photo camera doesn't work (video and panorama do) and the phone acts like a Defy with 4 capacitive buttons.
If you want to flash a Defy 2nd-Boot rom, you have to replace /system/bin/battd with the one from our CM7 (necessary for the battery to charge properly), same thing with /system/etc/mot_ise_imager_cfg.bin (to use the limited camera). I use them as my daily rom on the Bravo and don't have any issues with them, but no camera doesn't bother me and the 4 capacitive buttons aren't that annoying.
The capacitive bug is due to using the Defy Plus devtree with the kernel (Bravo devtree hangs on boot). Not sure about the camera bug. Read the last 2 pages of the JB thread over in the dev section for more info.

Darn! Part of my power button actually broke off inside the phone now. the other day this wouldn't have been as much of a problem because when I plugged it in to a computer, or the charger, it would boot right up, but now it goes to the battery charge indicator. I can get to recovery, but with no power button I cant do anything when I'm there. I really don't want to part with this phone. I realize that I could probably push the twrp recovery through ADB so that I could still flash stuff, but is their anyway to modify the phone or kernel so that it will power on when any of the physical buttons are pressed?
I love this phone, but being dropped on concrete everyday really cut its life short.

Is My HD2 Really Bricked?

On Saturday night i was txting playing beer pong having a good time.
When all of a sudden a black screen came out saying something about how it was goin to restart and reset or something like that and that all my personal info would be gone.
So i did it and once it restarted it just stayed stuck on the boot up screen.
Not thinking twice about it as i was having fun i just put it in my pocket thinking maybe its gonna take a lil longer but then i realized after awhile it was still on that same screen.
I took out the batter turned it on again same thing happened.
I gave up and decided i'd just deal with it the next morning.
Next morning comes its now like around 1-ish crazy party haha
Point is phone is dead i charge it for 30 min? i try turning on and nothing.
So then i boot up pushing both buttons figured i would do a hard reset.
Still nothing!
My friend decides to take me home so i take this time to charge my phone a lil more with his car charger and at first it was charging then out of no where it doesn't charge?
No light?
No boot up?
Nothing?
I take the battery out and back in then plug it into the charger and the light doesn't turn on but my phone just starts vibrating uncontrollably...
This freaks me out so i take the battery out and again same thing.
I took the battery out for a couple minutes then put it back in and it started charging again.
yay!
Oh btw the whole time this happened i was able to get into bootloader mode so i figured it cant be bricked and i can fix it just got to charge it.
I got home battery wasn't that charged but i plugd it in to my computer in bootloader mode hoping it would charge for a bit then i downloaded a new rom and i read it was a good idea to use task29.
Sounded like a great idea to fix my phone.
I got the Repack by ShaDrac and flashed it on my phone.
One strange thing i did notice was that usually when i flash it i see HTC then a progress bar.
This time it was just blank all black but with the progress bar i saw it go all the way to 99% and 100% on my computer it even said successful flash.
But after that it just stayed off?
No reboot ?
NOTHING!
wont charge
wont turn on
no bootloader mode
completely bricked.
im sure the battery is just dead since it wasn't that charged to begin with but i have no way of charging it!
I did a lot of googleing and found no answers i refuse to believe its bricked!
it cant be rite??
If anyone could please help me i would really appreciate it.
Ive only had my HD2 for about a week =[
Oh and it's a T-Mobile US version unlocked.

If you have only had it for a week then the best thing is to just take it back to wherever you bought it and ask for a direct replacement as it should still be within the time frame for that.
Sounds like you have done everything possible to bring it back, taking the battery out, hard reset. If it wont turn on, wont go into the bootloader and you cant get an activesync connection then theres not really much more you can do.
Mark.
yea i agree, dont waste time fiddling and trying to bring it back, get round the shop today.
Unfortunately thats not an option as i got it from someone else and then unlocked it since im on at&t. At most i would have to call htc and hope the manufactureres warranty can do something but i highly doubt it.
cant believe this is the end of my HD2

You might try taking the battery out and leaving it out for at least 24 hours. Sometimes that will reset a few things and bring the screen back on but im not guarenteeing anything. Yo uhave nothing to lose at this stage though. You could also try connecting it to your pc via activesync and see if it connects. Even if the screen isnt coming on you might still get a connection which you could use to flash a new rom.
Even getting a replacement battery off ebay very cheaply might sort it out as I have heard of batterys going funny before.
Just a few sugestions.
Mark.
all the phones should (I think) be manufacturer warrantied for the first year, so I bet htc will fix it, though you might have to pay shipping.
dig out your regions htc repair center and get in touch. so long as they can't see the hspl it should be free.(
I dont have HD2 (<--nexus one), but one thing i have noticed with all HTC phones that I've had something similar happen is when i have tired to reboot the phone by turning it off and then trying to turn back on it wont. I would take the battery out and still it will not. I would do the same with the sd card and same but what fixes it is taking the SIM out press the power button few times with no battery and then putting everything back on and it turns on. It happens in a while. Maybe not the same problem but i guess its worth a try if you haven't yet. One more thing I would try is to take the battery out, the sd card and the SIM card out and then plug your phone into the charger and wait a few mins to see if the led or screen would come on. Try the same thing by plugging it to your computer. If computer does make sound and it does detect your phone then it might just a screen related issue which might be the case since you already flash it with a different rom and nothing came on. I know you probably have tried this but you didnt say in your post but have you tried this?
1. With the device turned off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, then briefly press the POWER button.
2. Continue pressing the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons until you see this message on the screen:
“This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to the manufacturer default settings. Press VolUp to restore manufacturer defaults, or press other keys to cancel.”
3. Release the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
4. Press the VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.
Good luck
I agree with mskip about the 24H thing if you let the internal/backup battery die it could solve a possible brick then by reflashing
also what deanesn said about the HD phones its also true (same prob with G1 and excalibur) sometimes out off nowhere it wont turn on or its just going to give you a black screen... wierd huh!?
important things I wanna know is
what rom where you using? what radio version? what were the last app or apps you installed on your HD2?
anyways from what I've read&done ever since I joined XDA this is the best thing to do in a situation like yours
This is when you get a black screen
1 if its stuck on the boot screen try to do another hard reset
2. if you cant or nothing happeneds try to see if you can acces the bootloader screen
3. if you cant, remove the batterie for like 24H or maybe more so the internal batterie dries out (if you do that make sure that you try to estimate around 50% to 70% before removing the actual batterie for reflashing)
4. then insert the batterie and try to acces the bootloader or hard reset by pressing the key combanations dont try to see if by a miracle chance it would fix the problem (trust me at this point it wont)
5. if it actually DOES bootup find and download THE STOCK ROM FROM TMOBILE
6. HARD reset if nothing then do it agn but before it has a chance to, try to boot up
7. quickly acces the bootloader wipe your phone (task 29 for hd2) and flash the STOCK ROM (not a custom rom. I read somewhere that its always better to go with an official tmo rom)
thats it Ive try many things on my ALMOST bricked situations this are the things Ive done MAYBE IT WONT WORK FOR YOU, one time I thought my excalibur was dead until I left my phone without a batterie for like a weak then later out of nowhere it boots up only on the first tmobile splash screen and I was able to fix it
LOL even tho those steps prob dont apply to you what you can do is call HTC and tell them you have a black screen on your htc DONT TRY AND ACT all smart by telling them you have a brick and you had a custom rom and all of that cause that prob voids your warranty with HTC, from what I've read this one guy told them that his girlfriend was texting and then the phone froze and the she remove the batterie and the screen went black. And he got a replacement
also another one that I read is a guy telling them he was doing an OFFICIAL ROM UPDATE and the phone never turned back on.
hope it helps
Mark:
Thanks, and this is actually my plan lol I used to flash my old motorola rizr all the time even had to testpoint it to bring it back from a complete BRICK! but the one thing i couldnt fix was water damage haha but after a week of having the battery out some how... miraculously it came back
Deanesn:
How is the nexus one? I was gonna get a nexus one or a hd2 but the screen size ended up being the tie breaker although ever since my g1, android has had my heart haha
Ive always hated windows mobile but the hd2 was perfect!
I also agree with what u said, i have seen those symptons before.
But yea thanks on the advice.. sadly... already tried it and nothing.. =/

again sorry for skipping your question.
try
try taking sd card out and boot it work for me
Here is what you have to do after I made a mistake and "killed" my US version HD2, but it's back to service.
First of all, you have to be sure the battery has at least 50% left. If the unit is able to charge the battery, leave it charged for a couple of hours.
Second, unplug all the cables from the unit, take the battery and wait for a few seconds, then put the battery back in. Press and hold volume down button and press red (end/power) button once. If everything goes well, you should see a tri-color screen.
Third, plug in the phone and run ROM update again.
WARNING: flashing will erase your personal data.

You need to get a desktop charger so you can plug the battery in and make sure its fully charged. I dont think they are available from shops but you can buy them online (ebay) for around a fiver.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Desktop-Battery...&otn=8&po=LVI&ps=63&clkid=9087015918333818927
That one says for the T8585 but im pretty sure they both use exactly the same battery. You might want to check on that though.
Mark.
My goodness, that OP is a real doozie.
That's pretty wild man, although I don't have much input, other than the obvious suggestions that have already been provided for you... I will say that was a worthy read.
Yea thats pretty much my only option I will be buying that desktop charger real sooon and ill get back to the forum with my results.
Cant believe they are so cheap haha
Ive even seen one that comes with an extra OEM battery and charger for under 15 dollars!

any luck with un-bricking your HD2?
Seems like OP bought a damaged phone in the first place or something, or something "happened" on the night of the party. Beer got on it, perhaps?

Nexus S 4G Hardware failing?

Had this phone since launch and I think she's finally ready to go..
Your thoughts
First issue: Woke up this morning to my phone stuck in horizontal mode (CM9).. No amount of reboots, cache clearing, display rotation setting playing with would stop it. It would reboot straight to landscape mode.
Second issue: Tried pulling the battery.. When inserting the battery the phone booted right up without me even having to hit power.
Third issue: I removed the battery again, this time for longer and now when I insert the battery the animated charging icon appears (without being on external power)
Fourth issue: When the phone was powered up it would randomly not recognize it was on external power even when plugged in.
Fifth issue: Reading the writing on the wall I did a quick unroot return to stock and locked.. After this rotation works fine again, it seems to charge but if I pull the battery and insert it, it will still show the white animated charging battery icon for about 5 seconds. I can even press the power button quickly to bring it up on demand like it's really on external power when it isn't.
You can remove the second "issue"
It happens on most phones... normally when u pull the battery and quickly put it back in

Yeah.. I had it down to that myself.
Took it to Sprint.. He tried blaming it on my battery (because it would take 10-20 seconds to even acknowledge it was charging after plugging it in)
So, I demonstrated how I can make it "charge" without being connected to power by making the powered down charging icon appear when it was unplugged. He laugh with a bewildered look on his face and just decided he'd send me a reconditioned (he said new but the box serial number starts with "RECD") and also a new battery. The whole day before I received my replacement my old phone was getting worse and worse.. Random reboots, and odd thin vertical lines when on Automatic backlight in bright sun..
New phone is working as it should now.. I can't complain. What's it been? 9 months since release? And this is the first time something went wrong with it and Sprint had a new phone at my door in 24hrs. Love good, quick service.
Take cm9 off and return to stock.
See if it functions normally.
This just sounds like a case of user error to me.
If you don't wanna go back to stock.....restore a known good backup....wipe and reflash your current rom.....

I did return it to fully unrooted 100% OTA stock. You think I took a phone to Sprint to have diagnostics run on it rooted and with CM9 on it? It wasn't user error.

If you browse these forums often you see all kinds of dumb things. I just usually assume the worst to start.

Stuck in APX mode won't boot or turn on / charge - any fix yet?

TL;DR: Any way to fix/flash a Nexus 7 that reports it's in APX mode to Windows yet, that won't do anything else?
Backstory: I've had a 2012 Nexus 7 32gb since the day it came out (Oct 2012 or so?). Worked great for a year, loved it! Had AOKP on it, unlocked/rooted, used tons of apps, never a single problem. And then one day while I was using it to play music while charging it, out of the blue, it hard shut off while it was running, rebooted and shut off during boot and... never turned on again. Wouldn't indicate a charge, wouldn't turn on, couldn't get it to respond to any power or volume key presses, nothing.
I called Asus, and they agreed it needed to be repaired. I sent it to them, they sent me back the same unit, repaired, and said they swapped the mainboard out in the repair notes. Worked great, except the device was completely wiped, relocked, unrooted, and they removed my nice Stenheil screen protector.
I was without it long enough that I got used to not having it. Since it was completly back to stock, I decided instead that I would sell it when I found a good buyer (friend, etc), and buy the new 2013 Nexus 7 instead. I found a friend who wanted it a few days ago.
Today's Issue: I charged it over night last night so it was on a full charge this AM. I saw that I was still running 4.3 on it (hadn't really used it since I got it back in November), so I did the factory/official "OTA" update to 4.4.2 this AM. Went flawless, no issues, booted up fine. I updated all the apps on it, also worked fine.
I then decided to do a Factory Reset on it, (Thru Backup/Reset IN android, NOT Recovery). I went thru the confirmations/warnings, and then it said "Shutting Down..." and, it shut down. I let it sit for a few minutes, expecting it to boot back up (it never did). I tried to turn it on, nothing. I tried ALL combinations of power + volume, + charging cable in/out, etc. Everything possible, trust me, I scoured the web for new combinations and timing ,etc. No matter what, I never got ANYTHING on the display, no charging indicator, no recovery or bootloader, nothing. It's like the display is dead. The battery was fully charged this AM after being charged overnight so I know the battery wasn't even close to low. It's like it's completely dead no matter what I do.
I then tried to hook it up to my PC, which is setup for ADB etc, couldn't see it in ADB. In Device Manager though, it's showing as being in APX mode? So I tried holding power down for 10 seconds with it connected, and it DOES disconnect from windows, and a few seconds later, it shows up again, again in APX mode. Nothing ever appears on the display. Holding VOL down or all three buttons while plugging into PC never changes anything, no matter what, it ALWAYS shows in APX mode.
From what I'm reading online, this is a sign that the bootloader is missing or corrupt, and, that there isn't a fix for that unless you first backed up your crypto "blob" using Flatline (which I didn't even know about till today). I'm hoping that maybe what I've read is out of date? Is there perhaps a way to fix or flash this yet?
The whole thing makes little sense. All I did is update it, then reset it, all officially supported/normal things, on a bone stock tablet. It seems more like they didn't ACTUALLY fix it the first time it went back to them....
Help? AFAIK the tablet is now out of warranty. I just want to sell it and get the 2013 model! The tablet is in perfect shape, it's been used with a screen protector and case since day 1 - not a single scratch on the screen or case. :crying:
i'll take the silence to mean I'm screwed, right? :crying:
I don't know how, but it seems your bootloader is gone. (corrupted sector on the nand, maybe)
You can't do much without the proper blobs.
If I were you, would try to send it back to Asus. They are the only ones who can repair it.
Wow I can't believe it's been two months, but, I still have this tablet, still not working, Asus won't fix it for a reasonable price... anything changed on this in the last two months?
It seems like it should be possible to do something... maybe I'm just optimistic.
I want a 2013 Nexus 7 but it's hard to pull the trigger knowing my very lightly used gen1 model failed twice now.
There is no way to produce an universal blob and device specific blob creation is working so there is little to no reasons for further development.
You could fit a new motherboard 32gb ones are expensive but the 16gb are a lot cheaper
Programming is a race between engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning.
They're readily available on eBay - $35 for a used 16GB motherboard, and $50 for a 32GB board. That's how I fixed my APX bricked N7...
Whoever stumbles across my late entry, if the N7 won't boot after empty battery, no button combinations work and PC shows only APX mode - take off the back housing (it's pretty easy to do) and disconnect and reconnect the battery cable, this let me boot it up immediately...
(my N7 however was plugged over night to charge before I attempted this unplug but actually didn't show up the charging indicator and wasn't bootable, surprisingly it was charged already half when I finally could boot it up)
Sent from my OnePlus5T using XDA Labs
Apparently it is possible without having done the backup first, at least for some people.

Is my Note 4 dead?

Hello dear community,
I'm posting there because I have some doubts about my phone and i'd like some answers from you.
1 month ago, I was charging my phone. When it reached 100% battery, It was fine but the problem is when I was trying to press "power" to turn it on but It didn't want to. So, I removed the battery because I couldn't even turn it off. When I tried to restart it again, it didn't want to. No reaction to the "power" button.
I followed EVERY tips on Google but none worked. I also tried to change my battery but nothing. I tried also to connect it to my computer, it was detected but my phone didn't turn on.
So, I guess my phone is dead unless if there is a solution to make it working? Also before that, my phone was becoming very laggy and when it had a small lag, it was turning off and was rebooting.
Thank you in advance for your answers.

I have mustered some conclusions about your phone based on what you typed:
1st claim: The power button no longer works anymore
•Reason: "... when I was trying to press "power" to turn it on... it didn't want to... When I tried to restart it again, it didn't want to. No reaction to the "power" button."
—Seems like you're gonna have to find another Note 4 and replace its motherboard with the Note 4 whose power button doesn't work anymore after 5 years.
But before spending, I would like you to try this method from a Youtube comment:
"... you'll just have to keep the charger [cable connected] on [your phone] while you take off the battery, and put it back after; then, remove the charger quickly..."
—————
2nd claim: The screen no longer works
•Reason: "I tried also to connect it to my computer, it was detected but my phone didn't turn on."
—If the phone is charged, seeing nothing but blackness, but you still see an emitting LED light on the top-left corner, that's a sign that it still works, just not the screen. So I would suggest that you buy a new screen and replace it with your old one. If you think you can't, then go to a phone repair shop and let others do the repairing.
—————
3rd claim: The motherboard is dead
•Reason: "... before that, my phone was becoming very laggy and when it had a small lag, it was turning off and was rebooting."
—The motherboard might be dead if these are happening, but I don't think this is the right reason unless the first two conclusions are proven to be true. If the first two conclusions are proven to be false, then the motherboard is dead, and you may either buy another Note 4 motherboard or get a new phone.

Thank you for your answer.
To answer you clearly about all the points you clarified, there is no led light appearing when putting it on charge and I also tried the "Youtube comment" but nothing.
So I think, the motherboard is dead as you mentioned. I just don't understand how it died after a charge but as I saw on Google, it's a general problem on Galaxy Note 4, so I think i'm not surprised at all. It's been since 2015 I had it.
Thank you for your time and to have solved my doubts about the death about my phone.

Put in cold fridge for 30 min without battery, then try to turn it on. If not, try the cardboard method under the emmc chip (search youtube)

Is this a serious thing ? (fridge)
I did the oven trick on my n910t. I left my phone stuck in the grill of my truck when I changed the brakes. I took it for a test drive and ended up running over the phone. Me being a noob at the time didn't know the AT&T Note 4 would not unlock Bootloader for custom roms or custom recoveries. I purchased the AT&T Note and was sorely disappointed there after. Flash 2019 I still have the motherboard for my note that I ran over. I can only get in to go into download mode and only when it was plugged in. I flash custom ROM or custom recovery and it would say would pass but it would just boot loop and boot loop. So I read somewhere where you can put it in the oven for around 5 to 6 minutes at about 200° and that it would settle any of the cracked solder that be around the emmc or anywhere else on the board. So I tried it. I stuck it in two different times at five minutes a piece, pull the board out and let it set for a day. I installed the board just a little while ago and she fired right up. It's amazing
I've recently replaced the motherboard on my N910F with a used one bought from AliExpress. As it's used I've no idea how long it will last but for £30 was worth a try.
It was pretty straightforward replacing the motherboard using one of the tear down guides on YouTube.

TMobile S8 works fine, except the screen won't turn on

My brothers TMobile S8 screen randomly stopped working. It has no signs of damage anywhere as well. Weirdly, I managed to get the screen to go on one time by pressing some button combos to try to follow a guide to get it into recovery to factory reset it. Upon the phone booting, the battery had 3% and when I went to show him, it was dead. Now after letting it charge, the screen does not work once again and I can't seem to get it to come on in the same way it did before, the bright blue recovery screen.
Is there any software I can use to just attach the phone to it and factory reset it? I mean, I've seen bad phone screens before that have still had images show up on them, even if heavily damaged physically or it no longer responding to touch and showing dim lights. But this one simply doesn't turn on, except the one random time it did, and it was perfectly fine, showed no sign of damage. Any thoughts would be greatly helpful
Is the battery known to be good?
If not replace it. The system will not boot if there's not enough current. It takes a fair amount of power to boot up. A charger can't provide enough to do so...
It boots up fine, I can hear the initial TMobile boot audio as well as the notification sound the phone makes when it gets to the lock screen. I also had it stop charging @80% not too long after buying the phone on release, with some custom ROM I installed. Ofc its a possibility its battery related, since I can't see anything on it, but it was taken care than the average person I am sure
With a custom rom all bets are off. Makes troubleshooting much harder. Possible rootkit.
Firmware and malware aside if it's booting but no display, possible loose ribbon connector, failed display or mobo. That's assuming the battery is good...
Well I did disable/uninstall Superuser from the phone, and I used it for a couple years before giving it to my brother to use. That is a good point about the cable, I will search for images, maybe I can squeeze a few spots to just see what happens

Sometimes just reseting a connector is all it takes. Those are low voltage lines and a perfect contact is needed.
If the battery is more then 2-3 yo it's probably at the end of its usable service life.
Thanks for the input, I will open it up if nothing else works and I will report back if it helps
