Does Eugene's CPU sleeper work with our devices? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I used his app from the play store since it was in script form on the T989 forums. Having experienced the battery saving it provided on that device is curious if anyone had already installed it on the nexus? I emailed him concerning compatibility but have yet to receive any word. Any ideas?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2

I've been using it, prior to installing it my phone would never deep sleep and after im getting deep sleep fairly quickly after the screen shuts off.

I installed it but I'm not sure if its working. How do I know?

Note switches off randomly when put to sleep

Hi!
I'm experiencing random turn-offs when I put my note to sleep. When it turns off I need to hold the power button for 10 seconds or so to turn it on - which means it's not just turned off but in the deep sleep state but unresponsive. I'm on Cassie's 2.0 ROM (flashed it twice suspecting a bad flash). Tried FM Kernel 1.3 , Abyss Kernel 1.4 and now FM Kernel 1.3.1 and it's still the same. It seems to happen more often when overclocking/undervolting but still happens sometimes on stock voltages too. Anybody else having similar problem?
yes and am on stock exact same issue

Never happened to me yet and I've had my note for 3 weeks.

Same issue on German stock, i even have to pull the battery out for it to restart, just did a master reset, and i hope that will resolve the issue.
are you guys using SetCPU & have a screen off profile? if so, then that's the case. I experienced this & had to delete the profile.
I've been having the same issues for about a week. Phone shuts down when in sleep for some reason. I thought I had a defective unit. I I'm in process for a replacement

Had this happen once but my phone has the Abyss 1.4 kernel with lowered voltages (no profiles).

Nope, I'm using SetCPU but never had any profiles set. Same happened when I used Voltage Control (or something...) instead of SetCPU.
It's too early to say it for sure but it seems that this thing happens to me only when I've got the WiFi on. I'll keep on checking.

ok, I had the screen off profile & when removing it, my issue went away.
Galaxy Note 2 shuts down by itself
This happens to the Note 2 as well and is not software related. The problem is hardware related. The phone is flawed and shuts off on it's own under various conditions, all hardware related. Take a look at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjLn2yikYnI
Also, take a look at this site I built that goes in to more detail regarding the issue: www.GalaxyNote2ShutsOff.com
One look at that short video and I am sure there will be some light bulbs going off. Be sure to read the details I provided on that site as well. They go in to detail about the problems that I have had and the lack of proper support that Samsung is willing to provide.

Solution to all ICS issues

When I upgrade to ICS, my tablet exhibited all issues everyone was complaining about.
1) Battery drain. - the culprit of this issue is GPS. The GPS was preventing tablet from going into deep sleep. I have disabled GPS but kept Google location service enabled and that fixed the deep sleep issue. Also there were some incomparable software which prevented deep sleep. XDA app was one of them.
2) Random reboots, shutdowns, and lag. - the culprit of these issues is software incompatible. All you have to do is perform full wipe and cold boot using recovery by pressing and holding power and volume down buttons. After reset, all issues are gone.
To troubleshoot use next tools.
1) CPUSpy - it will show of tablet goes into deep sleep.
2)Battery settings in the rom's system setting is helpful to see if the phone sleeps but will not show if it deep sleep.
3) BetterBatteryStates is very useful to see which process keeps tablet awake.

If it were that easy Asus wouldn't be working on a fix to push out to us. They have already confirmed there are issues.
My tablet didn't exhibit any of the reboot issues up until a few days ago. Which means even though your "solution " has seemed to help so far it could end up happening again later on
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
I have been running for 1d and 20 hours using tablet and still have 60% left. No reboots no lag runs smooth. Also there is an issue with GPS which keeps tablet from going into deep sleep and that is what Asus is working on. If you disable GPS and remove xda app that will solve your battery issue. Also xda might have fixed their app since then. Full wipe will fix other issues.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA
I understand and believe you. I'm saying that the amount of time you have without any issues is not long enough to be 100% certain all issues are gone.
That is why I stated that's I had NONE of the issues for a couple weeks then out of nowhere they started.
Tho I hope your solution works in the long run and helps others as well

I am just sharing my findings. I think GPS is the biggest contributed. Just disable it and see how the tablet runs.

If a full wipe was the solution, then you will not find so many threads about the reboot or other issues.
it is just pure luck, some did all the steps of full wipe, full reset, go to stock HC then stock ICS, in all ways some keep getting issues and some do not have any.....
and as it has been already mentioned above, the issues have been confirmed by asus and they are already working on a solution.

My experience: I've done a full wipe, installed few apps from scratch (no restore), disabled GPS and installed autoairplane app. Everything seemed ok, two days and one night in deep sleep with 8% of battery drain per day. The following morning the tablet was switched off with 0% of battery
Great that you have resolved the issues for your TF101 and thanks for sharing the steps you took you to get that far.
It's only a limited set of devices though (1) and a limited amount of time.
I still believe most TF101 ICS issues are related to drivers. Just like it was initially with the first Asus HC release. Updates will improve stability.
the culprit of these issues is software incompatible.

I agree, this is just a poor choice of words..and with the title of the thread, you are really just ginning up controversy here now as a thread of this nature has already been closed because of someone insisting that a full wipe solves reboot issues..I would have phrased it more scientifically correct by saying 'the culprit seemed to be software incompatibility', you could even throw in the obligatory 'to me' lol. When you state things with such certainty in a development and electronics forum where terminology and phrasing is very important you are misleading people (noobs and lurkers) who are then going to complain and whine about being misled (and possibly mess up their device in some cases). Safer to state your 'findings' in less certain terms IMO.
And as I already pointed out in another thread, in order to say anything equivocally about a solution to a common problem like random reboots you need to have tested and confirmed the proposed solution on tens and hundreds of units, which very few of us have access to to test with any clarity of results. So anyone *should* take users' proposed solutions with a grain of salt barring they are employed with Asus or Best Buy and could have done such testing. Other users have proposed build.prop fixes for example, only to realize they had reboots and didn't even notice. 1 day is not long n this timeframe- I have one once a week tops..but I still have them..lol
The only problem i had was the apps disappearing from the launcher whenever i exited an app. I thought i solved this by installing a new launcher. But it returned after a few days. I did a full wipe and installed apps from scratch. since then my tablet has been running smooth and fast. no issues. May be it's the apps we install that are causing the problems.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
I think it is the graphics acceleration driver. Many games are not working to me, they just exist to launcher and in logcat i can see SIGSERVs because of openGL ( this is from memory, I don't have my tablet here right now).
We must wait until ASUS releases a fix.
I'll come in with another just wait and see like other folks have said. I did my ICS update with a full wipe and then only installed apps I felt comfortable with instead of just doing a full reinstall of everything. For days life seemed grand with everything working just right. Then I got a few reboots and now the constant media converter dying message. So be happy things are working well for you but be prepared for the errors to creep in.

I suffered from random reboots. Whenever my device went to deep sleep it could not come out of it. What I did to remedy this is to root and install set cpu. After installation, i changed my minimum freq to 312mhz and my max at 1ghz. So far, for about a week, i have not suffered any random reboots/freezes. Also, using cpu spy, it does go to deep sleep. I hope this helps.

You are *definitely* wrong on this one. There are numerous documented accounts of people having this problem even on stock, unrooted TF101 tablets that have been wiped both before and after the ICS update was applied, and have nothing or next-to-nothing reinstalled. I'm one such person.
A full wipe most definitely does NOT fix or prevent these problems.

It did for the OP and a vast number of other users. Doesn't work for everyone but it is a viable solution.
I originally suffered from horrible battery life after updating to ICS, but I took a page from the book of the Gnex when it comes to sudden horrible battery life. One of the biggest problems on the GNex with sudden battery drain a lot of the times had to do with Google Maps. I used CPU Spy and Better Battery Stats and sure enough, Google Maps was constantly running in the background, putting the tablet into a wakelock and most likely running the GPS. The tablet wouldn't even last half the day WITH the dock. Went to apps, uninstalled updates and reinstalled the most recent version and since then the battery life has been PHENOMENAL! I've got the tablet with dock and it'll go most of the week, if not all week before the dock starts running low.
Hope this helps others. Can't guarantee it'll fix your problems but it fixed mine.

My volume is low, also been experienced by others. And it seems like left speaker is lower in volume, which I also read issues with. So yea. I have a couple little quirks. Good thing is I don't really use it for music or movies so not huge deal to me

This has been my fix from the start and have only had one self-inflicted random reboot and (Horndroid here is a nod for you) another reboot after I updated Google+. I reverted back to previous G+ build and all is back that way it was before.
If you'd like to read more about the kernel issue and how I solved it for myself, see here.

[Q] msm_hsic_host wakelock

Does anyone know what causes msm_hsic_host wake lock?
I've left my phone idle overnight and it has had a lot of this wakelock showing in better battery stats
WiFi was left on if that is relevant
Can't really find any references to this wakelock via our friend Google
Thanks
[EDIT: it appears the wakelock is 'normal' for stock builds and is linked to the radio sending data. some custom kernels can reduce the wakelock]

I saw that thread, though it seems to not really answer the question from what I can tell
Probably won't help but I'm having this problem with my Optimus G as well. More likely a hardware/firmware problem?
hsic = high-speed inter-chip, perhaps some kind of transfer from the SoC to another chip(Perhaps for the modem?).
VDDIO might have something to do with voltage regulation of the bus itself?
Maybe try in airplane mode and see if it solves anything? Otherwise it probably requires an update from Qualcomm if it appears on both Neuxs 4 and Optimus G
I've been having the same problem as well. Battery is draining way too much due to this wakelock when it should be in deep sleep.
Getting the same issue here.
kernel dev needs to shine some light on this

In air plane mode the wakelock dropped from 15% to 6.6% so I'd guess it is related to the modem in some way
little bump for this... seem to be getting same thing.
Around an hours worth of wakelock in a standard day..
I'm having the same issue with mine, 95 minutes of wake lock over a 10 hour period - using in BetterBatteryStats.
Nothing to add but I wanted to bump this up!
I have this issue too. Going to have to do a source code search to find out anything. All my partial wake locks are fine/expected... I'm completely stock, not rooted... no apps I didn't have on previous phones and have never seen this one before.
Could it be a gsm thing? I've always been on CDMA before the nexus 4.

No this is specific to the nexus 4. I have a gsm galaxy nexus and it doesn't have this kernel wake lock.
This wake lock totaled about an hour over a 10 hour period for me. Would definitely like to know the culprit. Overnight on airplane mode, I dropped 1% in 8 hours and the wake lock wasn't there. Definitely radio related.
Qualcomm EHCI Host Controller using HSIC. See line 586 ehci-msm-hsic.c.
May be a coincidence but it is related to USB Host... that doesn't work on our device
Same issue, very annoying. Anyone with a Galaxy Nexus/Nexus 7/Nexus 10, are you experiencing this? Is it tied to WiFi only or just a Qualcomm modem issue? This phone has the latest Qualcomm Modem in it, with a very efficient chip for WiFi if I recall. Maybe someone screwed up because it's not as tried and true?
Getting the same thing anyone can aged some light on it would be great

3 hours of wakelock over a 10 hour period today for me...
http://i.imgur.com/x8S66.png
31.2% kernel wakelocks from this one, from 100% to 70% in 2 hours, screen on like 20 mins. This is getting ridiculous. Might it be root related? I used the toolkit and did the 1 click for all which included root, CWM and busybox.

Bluetooth won't turn on, no matter what! 4.2.2

I am on 4.2.2 and the bluetooth won't turn on. As soon as i click ON, it immediately goes back to OFF (in blink of an eye). Is it due to the well known wifi-bluetooth issue? It happened yesterday when wifi was off even. Restart is the only temporary cure as for now. Any suggestions?

Exactly. Although a restarts fixes the issue temporarily but it's pretty annoying as bluetooth is used daily and that too quite a lot of times in a day, sometimes. So constant restart really isn't a cure. Anyhow, I was wondering it's just me and this youtube user lol.. but now I know it's kind of a known issue and hopefully Google will fix it, since they know the issues with BT/WiFi etc. But I heard they fixed it in 4.2.2 however, we are still getting it which means the issue hasn't been resolved completely.
Edit: I was using Juice Defender Ultimate earlier and the issue started happening right after a few days of the said app's. installation. Googled a bit and got to know JDU is the culprit. So I uninstalled it on Saturday. But issue still persists.

Never had Juice Defender Ultimate installed on my phone,so thats definitely not the cause. However maybe another app is causing this ? Would be interesting if we could find out.
I am also glad im not the only one with this problem, but it seems like it isnt affecting a lot of devices .. I mean this thread is barely getting responses ? Anyway I hope this gets fixed soon.

I hardly ever use the BT, but the only 2 times I needed it, it happened the same to me. Never used juicedefender, unlocked bootloader + root only.
It's not a big issue for me... but IT IS an annoying issue
I had this for the first time today. The only app I have that might effect it is Qualcomm Battery Guru.
Do you have frozen any service that might be linked to Bluetooth ?
Hmmm.. I uninstalled JDU after reading this thread:
http://feedback.latedroid.com/forum...ooth-cannot-be-turned-on-when-juicedefender-u
...but nothing really changed. So it definitely wasn't JDU.
Hmmmm..
Since a week I am facing another weird issue. I can't seem to transfer any files from or to my phone. Since Jpegs are of small size, they get transferred. But songs..videos..etc.. they just cant get transferred. For instance, a transfer will suddenly hang at..lets say...14% and will stay there for half a minute or so.. and then 1 file share unsuccessful will appear in notification. Out of around 10 to 15 tries, just once it transferred a 39 MB HD trailor.. otherwise it just doesn't transfer any thing.. Do you guys face this *hit too? What to do?:s
This Bluetooth not turning on issue is really annoying. Anyone has any news for it? No fix? Nothing?
I have to restarted my device several times in a day. And it extremely embarrassing when someone asks for a file transfer and you say him.. wait i need to restart the phone. BT isn't turning on
I asked a friend of mine, who has a N4, about this and he said it never happened to him. It seems that not all devices are affected with this bug ? Could it be a hardware thing ?

Only had it happen once during the last three weeks so the issue is quite rare. Also had to reboot to fix.
You can leave Bluetooth enabled though, it doesn't drain battery whilst inactive.

No. I don't use any battery saving app. I recently installed Battery Guru. But the issue was there even before installing it. The issue is there since the day I got my hands on the device. I seriously don't want to RMA as everything else is excellent in the device. Infact.. I seriously do not hear any buzzing sound from it.. even in a silent room. It was there in first few days but it was hardly audible. And now its gone. I have tried many times listening in a silent room but don't hear it anymore. So everything is perfect besides this BT bug I really really want a fix for it. No RMAing
The problem arises from the constant turning off and on of the bluetooth radio, as seen in cases such as the battery saving apps (Qualcomm Battery Guru, Juice Defender, etc.). I have the same problem happen when I automate the toggling of bluetooth using a Tasker created schedule. It is not limited to any particular app but has to do with a bug in the Android OS.
The official bug report is here: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39688
You guys can star the issue to help raise awareness to Google so that they can fix it. For now, the only workaround that I have found is to just leave bluetooth on all the time.
Help!
Same happens to me. As soon as I switch bluetooth on it switches off. Rebooting doesn't work for me neither does doing a factory reset. Will this be fixed??
I am not having any issues with blue tooth and wifi

Shuts down while sleeping

A couple of weeks ago my Nexus 10 started shutting down after being on sleep for a while. Really annoying having to boot it up every morning.
Is anyone else seeing this problem? Is there a fix? I don't think it's a setting that's causing this.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD
That is probably a sleep of death. Which if that is the case then it isnt exactly shutting down, just getting locked up and requiring a reboot to get it working again. The causes of his can be:
Too low CPU voltage
Too low GPU voltage
hotplugging is turned on for your CPU governor (some tablets dont like this feature)
severe bug in your ROM or kernel
Mine did this and I tried to troubleshoot it for 2 months before I gave up and RMAd it. New unit does not do this. View my profile posts if you want all the gory details.
I think you should RMA.
I have the tablet since December, this only started happening now
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD
But have you installed a custom kernel? Or ROM? Did you change anything in the last week? Did an app update in the past week?
Stock here, No root or custom rom. I did the 4.2.2 upgrade recently.
