JB 4.1.2 and Camera Driver - Galaxy S III General

Hi All!
I am not sure this topic was not discussed so if I am double-posting - sorry!
Anyway I was informed someone expects problem with camera after update to 4.1.2.
The reason is the firmware contains updated driver which is not pre-installed in the phone because the firmware is actually a dump.
I would like to explain the way I performed to solve the problem (now I have GT-i9300 with 4.1.2 and working stock Camera (both video/photo) and other camera applications also).
First of all: make a Nandroid backup! I have tested all the steps but I cannot guaranty everything will work properly in your case.
Second - I can help with GT-i9300 only. If you have other device - sorry. Maybe this receipt works - maybe not, I don't know.
1. Please dial in stock dialer the following: *#34971539#
2. In menu please choose Phone/CAM FW Ver Check
We need to know your two parameters: Cam FW Ver and Phone FW Ver.
Cam FW Ver is a version of driver installed in your phone. Phone FW Ver is a version which comes with a firmware. Usually firmware's one is newer. In my case it was
Rear Camera ZDFE02
Phone FW ZDFI02
Click to collapse
3. You have to download newer driver. In my example I had to download ZDFI02 driver - and I believe everybody will have the same issue because this is the driver which comes with leaked 4.1.2. In other way I suspect you have mixed up something to make Camera working - I suggest to re-burn the firmware again. Anyway - you are free to test.
Be careful! There are other camera vendors exists - and it is easy to detect by first two letters of driver version (in our case it is ZD). If you have other vendor - please download appropriate driver.
After you have download the archive you have to unpack the file named "SlimISP.bin" on your sdcard (internal one).
Then dial *#34971539# once again and choose Phone to CAM FW Write (Rear) (if you have unpacked the file properly - this button will become active). Flashing will take about 20-30 seconds - please be patient.
After flashing finishes exit the Camera Firmware menu and enter it once again (*#34971539#). Choose Phone/CAM FW Ver Check
Check again above-mentioned two parameters: Cam FW Ver and Phone FW Ver. If you are lucky enough they will be equal and the process completed successfully.
The source is 4pda forum (and all thanks should be addressed to them and Pako777 individually).

Be carefull!
Gt-i9300 could come with 2 different camera hardware: one from sony and one from samsung
It is the same thing with the camera firmwares:ZD and GD
Mine has GDFF03
For those who have GD firmwares: do not use files in first post!

S3 has equal number of gd and zd camera models

Yes you are right. First post updated, one driver I could not attach (I have 21 of them) - here it is.
EDITED: GHFJ02 and firmwares added, all credits to matthessimo for this.

Thank your for making this great guide.
I have GDFF03. do I have to update?

Once again: the main idea is to make Cam FW Ver and Phone FW Ver equal. If your GDFF03 is this value in both parameters - everything should work.
But once again - after my update to 4.1.2 I see later ..FI02 version of the driver - but from another vendor. So I am a little bit surprised you have GDFF03, not GDFI02.
Anyway - I repeat: the main idea is not to update to latest version, but to make them equal.

How will I know if I have a problem? Everything is working fine for me...

it is really a non issue, because the only "problem" there would be after the update, is that you can not use the "flash phone to cam FW" option in that hidden menu. since no one ever did report an increase in quality after flashing another FW from phone to cam i do not see the point, but YES, after update the option to flash from phone to cam is greyed out.
CAM FW: GDFF02
Phone FW: GDFI02
ISP Ver :CML0801-M0
to clarify what the original poster forget to say... you will not have problems with your using/operating the camera after using the leaked JB 4.1.2, you simply do not have the option to flash a new firmware version for the cam onto it

I disagree. There's definitely difference in pictures comparing June drivers gdfe01 and latest ones. Whether the changes are always for the better is debatable cause I hated gdff03 white balance but night shots were much better.
I'm on 4.1.1 Indian lj5 and have just updated to gdfi02, hopefully they have better white balance.
If the driver is not in cam firmware the camera is simply not using it...
When I updated the cam driver, phone firmware matched it even after deleting bin file from sd card although flash button became greyed out which is fine now.
So now lj5 with gdfi02 on cam and phone firmware.

it is very debatable if there is any difference at all. there are several threads about this already where people upgraded their firmware or even flashed the firmware of the sony module onto phones with samsung camera module and apart from the obvious confirmation bias that was to be expected there was no proof for a change. no one did ever check this under even remotely "professional" circumstances. taking photos with 5 seconds difference will result in 2 different photos already without the change of firmware. if you do not control all things that factor into the resulting photo you can not say what leads to the photo. i upgraded according to this thread but did not see any difference.
to make sure that it is really the firmware change that leads to other results you would have needed to put your phone on a tripod and shot photos in similar circumstances with both firmwares
of course everyone may believe what they like. i personally put this into the same category like "OMG i flashed the new firmware and now my phone is faster", because people get used to the slower speed of a phone with all apps and services running and then get overwhelmed by a phone after a wipe flash that is faster then before (which has nothing to do with the firmware itself)

I agree with everything you just said, but I still disagree, if that makes sense cause I still stand behind everything I said.

I have had no such issue with camera.

Thanks for the info.
I have several questions.
1. If I flash will the counters reset or will they remain changed?
2. I applied the fix for using with siyah and everything is working now. Is it recommended to still apply?
3. Does the firmware change when new Samsung ROMs come out? Is it related to the leaks for example or is it built from factory and stays the same no matter what rom.
Thanks for the help. As I wrote, my cameras are working fine but there's a difference in phone and cam being phone newer.

So could this driver be explaining my camera problems(not opening sometimes or taking way too long)?

1. Changing driver is not changing firmware. So counters will not be changed.
2. See above - there is a discussion of the pictures quality with different versions of driver Personally - I love newest versions and I hate unofficial "mods" and "fixes". But sure it's up to you and if it works well - leave it working
3. Driver - not firmware. Yes it could - and update process will be automatic. The problem with 4.1.2 appeared because it is not a firmware but the dump. That's why you have to kick it's ass to update the driver manually.

I have to remind all you guys that this fix was first intended for those people that where using alt kernel like Siyah as video recording becomes buggy if using that kernel on last leaked, so if you're using stock kernel you might not have any issue with leaked rom installed.
About the fact of upgrading on a non buggy device so to have last drivers/mach codes, well it's up to you.
I'll install last leaked soon and for sure use Siyah, so as there is that video recording bug I must apply this fix!
About my situation...I am on stock XXDLJ4 and I have now:
Cam FW Ver: GDFD06
Phone FW Ver: GDFF03
Must I update drivers once I'll be on leaked, right??
Which should I use as I'm on GD???
Thank you very much.

I just made a video recording nite and it seems good.
It's this quite enough to say that with my stock XXDLJ4 with last Siyah I'm not affected with the video recording bug, so to use it as a comparable situation when I'll flash over last leaked and last Siyah???

[Q] Which rom do most of us use for U8800 everyday

Hi gals & guys!
I just got notified and downloaded over the air an update here in Australia.
Believe it or not, I'm still using B133 build ... no updates, not even root, "clockwork" or "perfect" recovery. You see, my U8800 is very useful just as it is, and I use it for work so I'm reluctant to break something that maybe could work better, but works OK just as it is.
I'd like wifi tethering (though I use usb tether a lot and it works well) and FM radio receiver (which I'm told the Snapdragon CPU has and just needs the correct firmware to "switch on").
All this is my way of saying maybe I won't update, specially when the OTA - pushed file comes with no info about what has changed.
So, there's a survey attached to this post .. which build version and modification options is everyone using?

I really like the B160, as the wifi is really working, camera looks great and calling works flawless, one downside is that when getting a phonecall you will see the answering image looks retarded and the answering motion is not so good. Overall its wonderful.
From where can I know which version I am using? when I get on the About menu.. I see a lot of version stuff, but I dont see any B133 or B135 etc.. Any help on how I can find this out?
But when I go to update the rom it says no updates available
I use B160 Complete rom with all fixes and 1.5Ghz kernel. Perfect recovery and I use the ROM update--use INTERNAL 2GB SD as data.
runs great
better battery life.
WiFi hot spot is very usable.
OC to 1 ghz. have tried up to 1.5 but found 1 to be stable and a nice increase from stock speed.
using smartass for scaling.
cifs is very usable also.
I have this same setup on my phone and my wifes phone.

Go to "Settings", "About phone" then scroll down to "Build number". You will see a long number, towards the end of the number will be the letter 'B' followed by 3 digits ... that is your "B" version number.
As for no updates available, that will depend on what country you are using the phone in. Not every place on the planet gets the same update at the same time.
Hope this helps!

Someday soon you will get it I am sure of it !
I mean come on this phone is really great and works flawless, why wouldn't it get CM?
B160 all the way for me. Fully working, solid as the default rom only better...
I will be installing the 2gb update also soon..
FWIW
M..
I'm running B133.
Thanks trevh
Running B136 here, rooted (z4root) with Clockwork Recovery, INTERNAL 2GB SD as data, some build.prop & hwVolumeFactor.cfg tweaks, launcher pro and overclocked to 1GHz.
I was running B160 but the constant restarts when using data over 2G was getting to me (same bug found in B135).
Only thing left on my wish list for this phone is...
fixing the WiFi drop-out problem (it's not a massive issue for me)
improving the performance of the camera (takes way too long to take a photo)
getting the volume button to take pictures using the default app

That's interesting, the official B136/B160 install must flash a new radio baseband (even though the version number remains the same). If you're wanting to try the B160 rom again it most likely would no longer have this reboot problem. I will look into the matter further.

So I had a problem and I solved it so that I rooted and flashed xxjm1 then set attached firmware in system / firmware with root explorer and launched * # 34971539 # and pressed Phone to CAM FW write ... after that I was working the camera .. and was thinking that i will have to buy camera module ... but nahh

yeah i know...but some of them didn't manage to solve so if somebody have the problem he can solve trying this original files not from wave :
I tried it from GB, and it didn't work. The menus did show and it appeared to work apart from the problem described below. Does it have to be done from 2.1 eclair??
When I did it from GB it always tried to 'update version 2.03' even though I tried about 3 different firmware versions that all had different file sizes. They all showed as version 2.03. I followed the instructions to the letter with reboots in between, etc..
Can anyone link me to a root file for xxjm1? That's why I ended up trying it in GB in the first place, because i couldn't root jm1..

Edit: I grabbed superoneclick so im all ready for morning. One question, do you think i should use a 3 file rom of jm1, because i only have a 1 file version. What did you use??
I dont want to leave anything to chance this time, if this doesnt fix it then im gonna give in and just buy a new camera unit. Its not the expense why i haven't just bought a new camera already, I'm just trying to avoid having to get the screwdrivers out and open my phone up. I'd prefer not to have to

Just out of curiosity because i am having the same issues..on which firmware you had problems?stock 2.1/2.2/2.3?because i am not stock since more than one year ago and i don't know if it's necessary to go back to eclair to fix the camera or being on JB this doesn't count and my problem is from the hardware..thanks!
Believe me mate, I tried everything. Been back to gingerbread, eclair, got to the stage of flashing the firmware, did it, all came back saying flash successful, and it still didn't work. Tried about 4 different firmwares as well.
My camera broke directly after a factory reset, when i first got the phone, before I had flashed custom roms, kernels, or even rooted, so it was nothing to do with that.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for better luck for you.
Edit: maybe you are more lucky than me, cos I've not been into this thread for months. Strange how i noticed your post 14 mins after you wrote it lol, and I've been in the nexus 7forums more than here since i got my new toy..
You have to be on eclair i think. I know for sure that the code to get into the firmware flashing does nothing at all on ics or jb.

Thanks!
I'm afraid it could be the hardware since i haven't seen many complaints on this and if it would have been firmware it should be quite common..
plus, from close distance it focuses and also if i look at the camera from the back it seems to move focus -so the firmware should be working- but when taking a picture at a distance like 2 meters or more everything is super blurry..
I'll see if i find a cheap replacement..going back to eclair try and than upgrade all the way back is quite painful
Enjoy your new toy! I got one too a couple of months ago and like it a lot

[Q] [NOT FIXED- GS4 Lots of issues with radio signal and calls!!!! PLEASE HELP ME!

Hi guys, first of all let me share al my specs in order to place my question properly:
PHONE MODEL: Galaxy S4 SGH-I337M (the original stock kernel was: Build Date: 30.05.2013 -> Region: TCE (Mexico) PDA: I337MUMUAMDL Changelist: 518267 Android: 4.2.2)
Actual Rom: CyanogenMod -version: 10.2 10.2-20130923-nightly -jftlecan
Compilation number: cm_jfltecan-userdebug 4.3 JLS36G eng.jenkins.20130923.022829 test-keys
Recovery Mode: CWM via Rom Manager Pro app
So saying that I will say this: I came from stock to CM wiping Factory Reset and data/cache only and I used Odin for rootint the device....no problems at all, runs like a charm...
MY ISSUE #1: A couple of auto-updates ago (via Rom Manager), I start to notice that the radio bars (telephony signal, mobile internet signal bars) were from 1 to 2 bars in places I always get full bars (I live on a 7th floor with excelent signal at Mexico City). I searched on the forums (XDA developers and here) and it seems that ROOTED DEVICES SHOW THE REAL SIGNAL PROVIDED BY THE CAREER---->can someone confirm this? Is my phone showing the real signal strenght?, eventhough, keep reading to see that low signal bars are only the beginning...
So as i said, I didnt worry pretty much, because if the bars are little low, but i have a good quality service, who cares? but the REAL PROBLEM appears when another update came and when Im trying to use my mobile internet (4g or 3G, doesnt matter) the signal cuts exactly at the moment of loading a page or any info....it as happened with almost all apps (specially Facebook, Waze and Google Maps)
It happens as follows:
1.- Open any app, like Dolphin browser or Firefox
2.- Page starts to load info (LTE showing download and upload state)
3.- LTE-3G or whatever, shuts down (I see only the telephony signal bars and there is no internet signal)
4.- Wait few seconds, LTE-3G whatever is back...have to try again and agin until LTE remains steady (sometimes it wont until I reboot)
ISUE #2- DURING CALLS:
- Sometimes people cant hear me, but I can hear them...restart the phone and the issue fixes it self...buts is very annoying to restart my phone every single time somebody calls me and they cant hear me
I dont know what to do guys? Shall I wait until final CM10.2 comes to light? Somebody has this bug also? Is this bug part of CM? or there is another app making this rare behaivour...(do you recommend me another ROM for this model of GS4??)
EDIT: I tried to flash the original modem.bin (via ODIN) which is used by my carreer (TELCEL, son of Slim AKA "The richest man on Babylon :silly: is the company´s name). So until now, I can tell that in my first attempts of opening pages or facebook, the randomly LTE turning off-on continues...I will keep testing with this "orginal" flashed modem....

It's defiinitely a modem issue. You can flash new modems and try. (backup efs before doing so, actually if you dont already have one - do it before now and save yourself some grief)
If that's not fixing the issues...
I'd backup what you need and start fresh. It would be the easiest way to resolve all your issues. Maybe even try a different kernel set for your region and phone.
Kies has a useful firmware recovery option that sets you back to stock.
The Kies will use your model number and serial to get you your stock firmware and reset you back. Id wipe all data under settings then do it. After its done, do another factory reset in recovery.

Thanks for that advice, i guess Im going to do all that if a new kernel doesnt fix the issue (I havent found any kernel for my region which supports Android 4.3, only 4.2.2, and someone told me is not correct to install such a kernel). Good day to you!

So after done all the "back to stock" steps, I still get this questions:
1.- Would I still be ROOT but with stock firmware (Touchwiz) and cool features originally made for Samsung GS4? (such as air gestures, etc etc)
2.- If im "unrooted" by the steps described in your link, can I upgrade to 4.3???
Thanks you are so kind!
Check out GoldenEye ROM or MDOB ROM in the development forum. They are extremely stable, super fast, tw and excellent battery life. CM is awesome, but is seriously way to flawed for our S4's right now to use for day to day life.

Thanks. I successfully installed stock Rom (Touch Wiz) and the signal has been impecable (full vars and excellent internet speed). I have to say that stock Rom is faster than CM in its current state I'm having a better experience right now ( and didn't had the time to explore all the Samsung apps in their depth) thanks again for your kind help!!!

You're having that issue on either GoldenEye or MDOB or factory?
Man, I decided to return to full stock rom...LTE in perfect shape now...dont know what happened...i flashed with odin the exact version indicated in forums for making only the root without the custom rom or recovery...even that soft rooting is making my modem going crazy...i prefer stay this way until someone releases a decent full version for a GS4 SGH-I337m thanks guys
Did you try one of iB4STiD's ROMs? They work perfectly. CM is just way to full of bugs.

Well I just went back to original stock firm ware via Kies, and now the radio signal issues are gone!! CM 10.2 didn't work well for me as the stock rom is now working in my phone. Something tells me that some times it's better to just rooting (for enjoying cool apps as Greenify) and not installing custom Roms (because all this kernel carnival is just to much, and appart of all we have to install radio firmware? Just no!)

[DEPRECATED]--[AROMA][PATCH]MasterPatch Aroma for SGH-I537

ATTENTION: THIS INFORMATION IS DEPRECATED!
I am leaving the thread up for reference, but as I no longer have the device and haven't been keeping up on the development of the I537, many of these methods may not (and probably won't) apply any longer. Please search the subforums for recent information.
Standard Disclaimer: Flash this at your own risk. I am not responsible for any problems that this file may cause, up to and including bricking your device.
Current Version: MasterPatch v.0.92
Choice of Kernel Modules for MF1, MF2, or MF3
Optional Add-Ons:
-Camera Fix - still no stock camera support
-Hardware Keys support for S4 ROMs
-Speaker-Phone Fix
-Edited "gps.conf" file for faster GPS fix in the United States
-I537 build.prop
-apns-conf.xml file - This may make it so that you do not need to manually input your APN on a ROM for another carrier
FOR NOW, ONLY FLASH AFTER A FRESH ROM INSTALL AND BEFORE FIRST BOOT
Introduction:
After making several MasterPatch zips combining patches and features (mostly to make regular S4 ROMs compatible with the S4 Active I537), things started getting tedious. I decided to make an Aroma Installer Zip which will allow for anyone to to pick and choose what he/she wants.
Note:
Immediately after installing a ROM in a new slot, flash the MasterPatch. Do not reboot in between.
PLEASE SUGGEST ANY OPTIONS THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE IN UPCOMING VERSIONS
Thanks:
Hashcode for SafeStrap
TreyLWalker & jrkruse for the S4_Active_Call_Record_Fix.zip which fixes Speaker Phone
Lejay for the Camera Fix
Darkman for the Hard Keys Fix
Ayush Singh for the incredible guide on Aroma
Devo7v for recommending I try my hand at Aroma
Instructions on editing the code:
If you want to add your own personal options to the installer, you will need to:
-Extract the zip
-Add code to /MasterPatch_v.XX/META-INF/com/google/android/aroma-config to give the option in the installer's UI
-Add code to /Masterpatch_v.XX/META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script to install the files if the option is chosen in the UI
-Place corresponding files in /MasterPatch_v.XX/AROMA/CHECKBOXx/ or /MasterPatch_v.XX/AROMA/WINDOWx/ depending on where the option is chosen in the UI
DOWNLOAD ON ANDROID FILE HOST:
MasterPatch_v.0.93
MasterPatch_v.0.92
CHANGELOG
Version 0.93 20Nov2013
- UI Improvements
- Removed APN option...still working on it
- Added Camera apk from KitKat

Are you able to re-flash the same ROM in a new slot, flash the MasterPatch, boot, and let me know if you have the same problem? I tried dirty flashes on a few different ROMs earlier and didn't run into the problem.

Wonderful! I'll make a note in the OP to only flash after a fresh install for now. I will make kernel modules optional in the next build to try and rectify the problems you had.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
You are going to single-handedly save this phone, and I appreciate all the time you're putting into this. I've installed the GPE ROM and then flashed the Aroma package and I've noticed a couple things:
On the welcome page (the page after selecting the theme) for some reason it mentions "Xperia MFPI Devices..." I'm not sure if this is hardcoded and needs to be changed or not.
The MasterPatch Changelog need a little formatting.
Under the patches, I would say somewhere (possibly in red) that the patches are required to be flashed on first boot. This way a new user will make sure those boxes are checked and won't have a reason to complain that the ROM isn't working. I would say something like "These patches are required to be flashed before the first boot of the ROM. Make sure all three boxes are checked." Another option would be to call them "Required Patches" rather than just "Patches". Or, and I don't know if this is possible, have the boxes checked by default so that the user has to uncheck them intentionally.
I don't know if it's worth it, but maybe the option for other gps regions? I know that this is for the i537 that was pretty much only sold in the US, but if you go on Sammobile there are i537 builds for Mexico and Uruguay.
I'm not sure the confirmation box for installation is needed since there's no way to cancel it.
On first boot of GPE there are no APN's listed. I did select the option in Aroma to flash APN settings, but for some reason it didn't take.
Default camera works fine, but that is to be expected since this ROM was built for the Active. I flashed the camera fix regardless.
I hope I'm not being too critical, I think you've done a great job with this and I think it will really help the community.
The only other thing I would add is the AT&T Compatibility Pack for Hyperdrive. The only trick with that is that you would have to make sure it is the last thing that is flashed in Aroma, otherwise it won't work and the APNs will be wrong. I took a look at the pack and noticed there were a ton of files in there which I'm guessing are there because it is based off a Verizon ROM. That said there may be a couple other things in there that are needed for the APN settings and might fix the problem with your patch.
Let me know if you need me to test anything or if I can help you out with anything.
EDIT: Just noticed the LTE MMS fix for Hyperdrive isn't an option. I'm not sure if this is still needed or not since I use Google Voice, but maybe under the optional patches there should be a Hyperdrive option that will flash everything needed for Hyperdrive.
I would also make sure things are being flashed in the correct order, if that makes sense. I'm thinking the APN settings might need to be flashed last, but I could be completely wrong about that.
---------- Post added at 09:42 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:08 AM ----------
Two other options I thought could be added to this:
T-Moble AWS fix/APN settings
Google Wallet fix. I was able to get it working on my stock slot, I'll have to find the guide I used and post back here later with it. Here are the instructions, reading over them I'm not sure that it's possible to just flash something and get it to work, but it sure would be nice.
Thanks again for doing this.

-The gps.conf still has all the needed code to work anywhere. It just allows for a quicker fix in the US.
-I don't think I'm going to add the Hyperdrive compatibility patch or LTE fix because they are specific to one ROM and I want to keep the size down.
-I plan on working on Google Wallet in the future.

Hi, This a really good work. But as a user of the international version of the i9295 i cannot use this patch (but i tried )... Is it possible to make it work on a normal i9295 to use regular or custom S4 roms?
Thanks in advance.

So this is something that has been bugging me for awhile. I'm not the most knowledgeable person on the subject, but it seems like you should be able to flash an S4 ROM and then flash an S4 Active kernel on top of it. It would have to be a 4.2.2 kernel for 4.2.2 ROMs and a 4.3 kernel for 4.3 ROMs, but it seems that it should work. It was possible to do this when flashing Samsung i9000 ROMs onto the Samsung Captivate. The devices had very similar internals, but the Captivate didn't have a front facing camera. This is a very similar situation to what is going on with the S4 and the S4 Active.
If anybody is adventurous, extract the kernel from the S4A Google Play Edition ROM, flash a 4.2.2 S4 ROM, then flash the S4A kernel on top of it. Make sure to flash the keys fix as well and see what happens. I feel like it should work, but please don't hold it against me if something goes wrong. You can always Odin back to stock.
If this can't be done I would like to know why.

I just went and flashed 0.93 (well, I didn't flash it I just ran through the installer and then quit at the end). I only have a couple comments:
The "Welcome" screen needs some minor formatting:
"You are about to Installing" should say "You are about to install:"
"VERSION" is bold, which is fine but it should have the same formatting (bold/not bold) as "UPDATED" on the next line. I think it would also look better if "VERSION" was on its own line.
Changelog looks much better, maybe include the day along with the month and year of each version.
On the System Information page, I would make the output text for Device Name, Board Name, and Manufacturer bold just like the output text below it.
Kernel Modules page looks good
On the Other Options page I would:
Make "Required before first boot!" all caps and bold to make it stand out. It is very important that users understand this.
For the descriptions of the mods, most of them are all caps except for the Camera patch description. Pick a format and stick with it.
I'm not sure if you can change this, but on the About screen it says "ROM Name: MasterPatch" maybe change it to "ZIP Name: MasterPatch"
Like I said above I didn't actually complete the installation, and I can't imagine you changed the functionality so I assume that functionally it works the same as the last version. Again, thanks for doing this.
I was thinking more about the Hyperdrive AT&T Compatibility Pack and I think you're right, it would make the MasterPatch needlessly big. That said I definitely think there is something in there that corrects the APN. If and when you do get the APN setting working I would have an option for the T-Mobile APN as well.
@dks21, are you willing to try what @Devo7v recommended? If so, I am willing to work with you on a project for your device.

So I think I know what you're problem is, you are flashing the S4 ROM which is 4.4, but then on top of that you are flashing the S4A kernel which is 4.2.2. The ROM and kernel versions need to match, so you need to either get a 4.4 version of the kernel or you need to flash the 4.2.2 of the S4 ROM.
Do me a favor, flash this ROM and then flash LeJay's kernel on top of it. Since they are both based off CM10.1 hopefully it will work. If it does than that means you need a CM10.2 kernel from LeJay to flash CM10.2 based-ROMs and a CM11 kernel from LeJay to flash CM11-based ROMs. I searched through LeJay's threads to find newer kernels but I couldn't find anything other than CM10.1. I noticed he released a CM10.2 ROM so you may be able to extract the kernel from that, but this is pretty much where my knowledge stops.
EDIT: The important thing to remember is that the ROM version and the kernel version must match to even have a chance at this working.

I am OK to test things. But as far as my knowledge about how to " compile, program, extract kernel and so on", is limited, I am affraid that my role would only be beta-tester...

So what do we need to start?

Thank you for the forum!
Since this is the "new" S4 I'm very happy that it has it's home now.
I got mine as a surprise after throwing my "old" I9505 in the wall and breaking it in half in a post-op amnesia so it was a nice early Christmas gift
So where do we start? If you look at GSM-Arena: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=5542&idPhone2=5665
It's very close to Note 3. It's so close that I think that they make it in the same production line. That is logical to cut the costs.
There are obvious things that makes them different but really not that much as core-hardware.
Note 3
3 gig ram. It can do record video with a notch higher density, but is that hardware or software? I'm guessing the later.
I9506
I noticed that the cam has focus-problems when I tried to do my bills today (that has QR-codes so you don't have to type them).
It had trouble with near focus. I tried with my HTC One X that focused it much better.
The only thing is if the Knox has an e-fuse but we will soon be aware of that. In that case there will be problems. For Samsung.
What more?
It doesn't have the Wifi-bug that Note 3 has. I don't know if that has anything to do with the 4.3 or not?
Does anybody know about Wifi-problems with 4.3 with the i9505?
The bug is that it considers the Wifi being "poor connection quality" and disconnects. While you stand next to the router.
I tried that on 3 at home, went back to the shop and it worked there flawlessly. Figure.
So that bug is something we don't want to introduce here since I'm guessing we need to blend some code form Note 3?
So basically it's a damn rocking phone. It's a pocket Note 3 and I think we can do amazing stuff with it.
I did an Antutu on original TouchWiz (has only rooted it) and got almost the same score as Note 3.
I know, it doesn't say that much but it's a measure of SOME kind. If not qualitative then at least quantitative.
So since I have a Note 3 as well (damn saleman). I was supposed to give one of them in my family but I think they will get my Htc One X
So the benefit is that I can test stuff on both. I don't care about flags, Knox or not. I have a green light from my cell-provider.
"Don't Duck up our cell-net and no warranty if you brick your phone by software" so a bit of precaution and nothing wreckless maybe?
So. How do I build a custom rom? I need a "Custom rom for Dummies" here
I don't even know if there is Kernel-source to start with? Do Samsung disclose that or do they don't give a damn as usual?

Yes i am also intressted in building rom... Just asop s4 google edition would be very nice!
*edit. Miui would also be nice!
From what I have seen by reading threads on rom building, it could be as easy as building a rom for the the i9505 and then replacing some binaries from a Note 3 rom (or vice versa).
Scrosler in the Nexus7 area gives a pretty good noob guide to building.
I am reading up on XDA-university and CM porting guides at the moment.
Hello guys
First of all nice to see that some of you want do something for the I9506 same like me but i think we need cm support otherwise its not easy to port roms...
Well here are some answers for the questions.
1. Yes it is same s800 processor like in Note 3 wich is supporting LTE+ 150Mbit
2. The wifi bug on Note 3 is Firmware related since you have it
3. All countrys where you can get a I9506 got 4.2.2 Firmware.
There isnt 4.3 Firmware out for I9506 currently but in near future it will since the S4 is on Samsung update list to 4.3
4. Source for I9506 is already out: http://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=search&searchValue=GT-I9506
So CM devs have to grab it and support our device
5. Knox?... Since i can read here our device is ready or has already Knox: http://www.samsung.com/de/consumer/mobile-device/mobilephones/smartphones/GT-I9506ZKADTM
Well we will get it atleast with next update 4.3 cause its not in bootloader currently ... i can see only the Knox app ... but i dont care it
6. The well known dsixda's Kitchen i allready tried but our device is currently not supported http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246
7. There is also the AOSP Paranoid Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1863547 wich can be ported but i didnt tested since it didnt worked with dsixda's Kitchen for me
There are much more but the base of all is CM! So please sign here if you didnt allready

I've used SamsungCamera2.apk from Note3 on my SHV-E330S(same as I9506) and UHD video works right "out of the box" No any patches required, except some patch from Note 3 community to remove record time limit.
Just some precaution: I'm using 4.3 firmware on SHV-E330S, while I9506 has no 4.3 yet. So, i think you have to wait for 4.3 first and then can use Note3 camera.
Update: actually UHD resolution is already supported by stock E330S camera, but isn't enabled in APK. I've just enabled and it works fine.
PLEASE READ THIS!!!
Let's make a rom! (question)
Its been moved by Mod to general Forum so thats why i post the link for it!
Cheers

How did you enable it?
Stock ROM
Is there a backed up stock ROM available? I've wiped out my device and Kies no longer recognizes it and I need a stock rom to be back to life

This link helped me http://rapidgator.net/file/bcff9d350d50276e78a4f90e56d69083/I9506XXUAMHD_I9506EVRAMHC_EVR.zip
S4+ (GT-I9506) System Image.
Ok. Here we are, born to be free (Knox Free). Absalon asked me to give you guys something special. Well, I'll give to you guys still running 4.2.2, - 1 link to my Google drive. You are required to flash with Odin v.1.85. This will be a totally stock XXUAMJ2 system image just ROOTED, the KNOX **** removed and odexed...:good:
Install Chainfire's SuperSU, and some kind of BusyBox.:good:
You can't use CF's Mobile Odin ATM, our model is not supported and that's why I made this pre-rooted system image.
You can now remove/freeze whatever you want, with whatever app you like. I have freezed down 73 apps on my S4+
Try to install CF's Triangle Away and see the result. Funny, not even my S3-LTE shows that kind of info.

Argh...my S3-LTE running low battery...switching to my S4+
Ok back in business. Right now I'm on the Odexed version of the software I'm gonna give you. Seems perfect.

But when I can, I'll give to you guys still running 4.2.2, - 2 links to my Google drive. Both require you to flash with Odin v.1.85. The first will be a totally stock XXUAMJ2 system image just ROOTED, the KNOX **** removed and odexed...
The second one, like the first one....but FULLY DeOdexed.
Then you can remove/freeze whatever you want, with whatever app you want.

I'll return and give you the download links when I can get in to the forum on my laptop.
See ya' guys and a happy new year.

Click / copy link and download.
This is the normal odex version. Unpack with zip and it will give you 1 file named SGS-4_Firmware.tar.md5, now flash with Odin v1.85!
Fire up Odin, select PDA!!! and browse to the unpacked file, named: SGS-4_Firmware.tar.md5
Make sure that: Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time are ticked! Nothing else.
Get your phone to download mode: From Phone OFF, press the volume down+home+power buttoms at the same time and will you get to download mode or use a USB jig, I use one from the god old Galaxy S2 days.
Connect USB cable to PC and you should be ready to go.
Press start and wait....after some time your phone will reboot, you are now rooted, running totallty odexed 4.2.2 stock.
If you have already rooted your phone any other way, you might get cunstom/modifed...just tell me and I'll make an Odin flash file with stock Kernel and this PDA.
If you like this, please thank me :good:
Next will be be De-Odexed version.
Ok here comes the De-Odexed version:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LINK REMOVED, due to a problem with the SecContacts app.
It just don't like DeOdexed version.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you don't know anything about all these things....don't do anything, READ and learn. It took me about 2 1/2 years to get in to this stuff...I'm 52 now...
Ok guys, please let me know how it turns out!
See ya' all.
Best regards

Ok. There seems to be a problem with contacts..Deodexed version removed untill a solution is found.
New Edit:
Forgot to tell you, the image is the based on: XXUAMJ2 PDA....
No modem or csc (cache) included.
And not to forget...thanks to Chainfire for providing the SU file! Without him, this had not been possible.
