So guys my cousin asked me to do something about his Galaxy Y Duos S6102 and I read around and found this awesome guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1853669
Now, just a quick question.
After doing the required steps, will I lose my data(Contacts, messages, etc..)?
I've rooted phones before but all of them didn't care about the data, but my cousin needs it because he has his business contacts and what not in it.
Thanks in advance for help!

U will lose all data because everithing from sd card will be erased.
So before paritioning ur sd make backup with Titanium backup, make a kopy of contacts nd copy entire content of SD card to pc.
You will loose the contacs you saved at phone memory not at sim card and your sms also.
So creat a backup.

Not likely. Accessing the internal NAND flash memory for something like a file recovery program would be difficult at best. If you backed up the conversation threads prior to deletion, or were running some other type of backup program, then you could restore them from those backups.
Beyond that, I'm not sure if there is an easy way of doing it. How did you lose them?
So im new to android and ofcourse, came from iphone, and was able to just "backup" to icloud...
my contacts are already synced via google... i assume (dont have the phone yet) that photos and music, videos etc can all go on the mirco sd, then the phone is just for apps... so is something like titanium backup all i need? and does it save the backup to my micro sd incase something happens and i need to reset the phone with that backup?
is that the basics of it?
thanks!

Contacts and wifi access points and passwords are backed up to Google. TiBu will back up as much as much or as little as you want. And you can choose the location like Google drive or your sd card. Carbon Is good backup option too. and there is no need to be rooted

For Titanium Backup you need to have ROOT ACCESS
Like itunes and the iPhone, that's how the Galaxy and Samsung Kies is. You can completely backup your phone through Kies as well. If you care about warranty, you should root right now until they figure out how t unlock the bootloader and triangle away any history of you modding your phone just to be safe.

you said u don't know much about android, that means u don't know what is root??
so just try this trick.:-
1. go to settings >applications >manage applications
2. click on any app. there u will find move to sd card option.
click on it
3. repeat step 2 with other apps also
NOTE ; Some apps can't be moved to sd card. so just try others.
if after all this also u don't have enough space uninstall some apps or root your phone.
For rooting just google "how to root (ur cell model)
hope it helps u..
hit thanks if u find it useful!!

If you want to increase your phone memory, you have to learn about your phones basic developments at first,like-ROOT AND UNROOT,CWM...etc...coz you are new at now...
Otherwise you can use the trick by sgyGURU for increaseing your internal memory by moving and clearing cache of the apps..

My previous mobile GT-S6102 i.e. Galaxy y Duos could unlock the pattern with google account without Internet, but its been a long after I bricked it, I gave it to dealer to reclaim Warranty! But now, It doesn't unlock in the vary way!
So, I wonder, whether there is a way to add tweaks or modify system files in order to use Google Account too reset password without internet? I would feel great if someone has got time to discuss about it and make it possible in Galaxy Y !
Waiting For someone to Reply and hep!

or
use aroma file manager
flash in cwm with system mounted
delete password.keys and gestures.keys from data/system
use a usb card reader to transfer the files to sd card or put sd card in another phone to put files on sd card

I am really at the end of my tether here - I would really appreciate some help.
I want to factory reset my phone. Before I do I want to do a thoroughly comprehensive backup of all the whatsapp data on my phone (call logs/media/chats etc.).
I installed whatsapp. Added an SD card to the phone months later.
I specifically prefer doing local backups using my computer or SD card only.
How can I check that whatsapp is indeed backing up chats to the sd card. If t is not - can I make it do this somehow.
If not - whats the best way to get this all done as a local backup please.

Titanium backup man.
Nothing beats it.
I understand what you're saying.
But I need to understand the app and how to manage this in the future.
Is there a way to check if whatsapp is actually making local backups to my SD card?
If not - how can I make it do this.
It shouldn't be so hard - that I am forced to use cloud backup over local backups.
