Is there a way to force the phone to go LTE only no 3G? I dont see an option for it in the settings. I live in a 4G area and with my thunderbolt it ALWAYS was 4G but my M bounces back and forth, but if I put it in Airplane mode and then take it out it will connect to 4G.

go setting and add 4G to the notification bar, there you can choose the one you prefer.
You can do it without the app....open your dialer type*#*#info#*#*
A menu should come up choose phone options, there you will find the radio options. You can pick lte only.

Well both those get to the right spot, but there is no selection for what I am trying to accomplish. On LTE only it won't make calls or send texts. I assume bc LTE is only data. What I want to eliminate is 3G while having voice service forcing the phone to only connect to LTE for data. Is that even possible?
I think if you go to the phone testing menu(*#*#info#*#* in dialer)you should be able to select lte/CDMA only.

That would work if "LTE/CDMA" was an option. the options are LTE/CDMA/EvDo LTE/GSM/WCDMA LTE/CDMA/EvDo/GSM/WCDM LTE only and LTE/WCDMA,
Sorry I see that now. I was trying to help you off my memory. Should have done my own research. It seems that should be an option to choose. There has to be a way, we will have to find it

Is there a way to disable LTE functionality permantently (software side) on the i9505?
I am in a low coverage area and with LTE enabled my battery drains much much quicker than with GSM - in Idle!
UMTS would be fine enough, I don't need the speed of LTE.
The only way I've found so far is *#*#INFO#*#* in phone mode.
But after a reboot everything's gone.
Any idea?
Thanks!

I just have it on WCDMA and GSM cos there's no LTE where I am.

Thanks, but I only have a checkbox "Use 2G only".
I forgot to mention I am on the latest Google Edition ROM.
Oh right.
Sorry no idea how to do it on GE, don't know if you can.
If you have exposed framework you can install Gravity Box, that gives you loads of CyanogenMod features but not sure about network modes.

This is useful if you have a weak LTE signal or just don't need it always on. I found this tutorial on a different website for another galaxy phone and it works on the Note 3.
1. Turn off your phone and take out your sim card.
2. Turn on your phone with no sim card and wait a minute or two for it to turn on and settle down.
3. Go to the dialer and dial *#2263#
You should see a menu with band selections. The current setting is "Automatic".
(You have to use the menu key to select your options by using "Key Input" to type the number you want)
If you switch to "GSM All", you will be EDGE (2G).
If you switch to "WCDMA All", you will be on HSPA+ (3G, though AT&T and others call it 4G).
4) Power off the phone again and put your sim card back. Upon reboot you should see your new setting in effect.
I get a service mode that says rat selection is restricted...
However *#*#4636#*#* will allow you to select whatever band you so choose. Although lte only doesn't allow voice calls

Thank you inmotion! This code actually worked better for me on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3. I didn't even have to pull out my SIM card or reboot. Just dial in the code, go to Device Info and change the preferred radio network type. It changes the radio on the fly in real time, and can be seen at the top.
Since Android 4.3 and on the option to disable LTE/4G has been removed from all AT&T Android devices.

Actually it was before that. Could not do it on my note 1. Would always get RAT restricted. This was on at&t. Other networks were able to use those codes and make the switch.

1. Download the free Phone info app from the Google Play Store and install it
2. Choose the Phone Information tab and notice the "Set preferred network type" option at the bottom, marked with an arrow at the right of the drop-down menu
3. Tap on the preferred network listing currently in use, and choose the "CDMA auto (PRL)" option from the drop-down list
4. You should be now maintaining connection to only Verizon's 3G network, and whenever you need to use data, you can switch back to LTE for the duration of it
There are numerous other apps and widgets at the Play Store that claim to do the 2G/3G/4G switch, but many users on Verizon have confirmed the Phone info app to be the only method allowing them to reliably turn off the 4G LTE on their Samsung Galaxy S IIIs.

Does anyone know how to do a network reset? Because I connect to any Data at all no 4G LTE or 3G none of those. I can't send or receive pictures and go on the internet. I tired taking out Sim card for awhile and still didn't work. Does anyone know what to do? And how to reset network?

Go to settings >> networks - check to see what you have your network set to.. if you're connected to LTE, it'll show the 4G/LTE icon (there's nothing wrong with showing it). If you don't want to be on LTE, you can change your automatic network settings. Keep in mind, networks are always dropping from 4G to 3G, so at times when you're not on 4G you won't see it.
i think what he means is wifi and lte icons showing up at the same time, none of the android phones i have used is like that, sorry cant help

These issues apply to T-Mobile users installing the current build of 4.4 (and possibly other GSM carriers but I don't have an ATT SIM to test). Motorola is aware of the issue. I read these forums pretty thoroughly and I've been answering these questions all over so I figured I'd just put them all one place. Issues as follows:
- Devices with the LTE radio active cannot send SMS
- Devices with the LTE radio active cannot send MMS (Carrier/Settings dependent)
- Devices with the LTE radio active cannot make phone calls and instantly disconnects on call attempt.
Urban Legends:
- Stock tethering does not work - I have personally tested on TMO and know it does work. Yer doin' it wrong.
Fixes
Easiest fix for now if you're on a device running 4.4 and want to... you know... be able to use your phone... is to use phone information and switch the radio mode over to GSM Only (not the auto one). This fix is a little finicky because if the phone realizes it's not running in the mode selected on your mobile networks screen it will override and turn LTE back on if you haven't selected UMTS only.
Full steps are:
Mobile network settings - Change network mode to LTE/GSM/UMTS
Mobile network settings - Select network UMTS Only
Install app linked below
Open Phone Info and select GSM Only
Phone info apk for sideload - http://www.mediafire.com/download/284l17ry2ok1yuk/Phone_info_1.3.apk
I'll update this thread as I discover more issues or as people post issues that can be replicated below.
Thank you. Finally I got the LTE turn off.
I gotta switch the mobile mode to LTE/UMTS/ gsm and select network as UMTS only. Then use phone info choose gsm only.

It was selecting GSM Only in Phone Info. Switched it to GSM auto (PRL) and I got HSPA+ back.
but Seriously dude. thanks for this info. I was tired of using my Moto G while my MAXX was just collecting Dust.
Edited the OP for a more clear fix. Thank you to vuphongkkk for pointing out the UMTS only.
I'm on T-Mobile and live in an HSPA+ refarmed area (NYC), but there are places I go on a regular basis that aren't refarmed. I set it on "WCDMA preferred" and voila, I have both 2 & 3G connectivity, with preference given to 3G.
I can't post links, but this XDA thread explains it in more detail I think: ... showthread.php?t=688492
Vodafone confirmed for anyone wondering.
H+ for UMTS only,
Edge for global.
No Sim adjusting at all
Just popped a sim in today. Getting LTE but really hating the call fail bug. Gotta place the call twice repeatedly to get it through

Update: Having major glitches when running LTE, pretty deal breaking for a full switch to tmo right now. Eagerly awaiting the new OTA to see if it fixes it. Seems to have major issues on the HSPA/LTE handoff. How did it function prior to 4.4?

On 4.2.2 was working fine, the phone just switch from LTE to 3g itself when you need to make phone call. But I had problem on 4.2.2 that if I connect to WiFi then it'll take awhile to get the LTE back. Normally an hour after out of WiFi range

APN: fast.t-mobile.com
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
You can uninstall it if you want. It's extremely small though so no reason to do so unless you just don't want to see the icon. Uninstalling will NOT reset your settings.

Thanks! I messed myself all up though.
In android mobile network settings should I have network mode as global, LTE/CDMA or LTE/gsm/umts?
If its LTE/gsm/umts do I still use gsm only under select network?
And if I leave phone info installed do I have to change anything on there for LTE to work? Phone info seems to change the network selection in the app on its own so I just stopped messing with it. Thanks and sorry to be a pain
Sent from my XT1080 using xda app-developers app
If you on 4.4 you don't have to change anything to have LTE work on your phone. Follow step by step from the beginning of the thread to turn off LTE
Sent from my XT1080 using xda app-developers app
I'm on 4.2.2 and already changed settings. So was curious on what the original settings on 4.2.2 are to get LTE working with APN settings
Sent from my XT1080 using xda app-developers app
4.2.2 rarely get LTE data. Choose network mode as LTE/gsm/UMTS . select network as automatic. Don't use the phone info. If you already use the phone info app in this thread then use it again to switch back to LTE/gsm.. Or the option that has evething.
Remember to add APN fast.t-mobile.com
But as I mentioned, 4.2.2 has some problem with the radio , so it rarely pick up LTE

Just to add another data point, I have a Droid Mini on stock 4.2.2. I'm connecting to t-mobile with the listed apn info, global and auto. I have LTE the vast majority of the time.
Cheers!
