after doing what I would now consider (dumb as ****) OTA updates....what would you all recommend i do as far as unlock...root...and rom? or if i stay stock no updates.......what would you do?
4.2 is as fast as any of the 4.1.2 custom roms / kernels that i have run in the past and i have tried most of them, i am currently running stock rom rooted with lean kernel which is a nice combination until some custom roms come out

It all depends on what you plan to do with it. Personally, I require root because of otg+host mode charging, among many other reasons. Each person is different in what they want and or require. You could use the first to experiment with different things and leave the new one stock till you find a configuration you like. Good luck!

Would recommend just keeping stock until more 4.2 Roms become available, or flash the rooted 4.2 stock image that was released.
Paranoid android is releasing 4.2 tomorrow
What are those things on XDA no one listens to? Oh yea, rules. What the hell does this have to do with android development? If you have questions post in the Q&A.
Why is this in the development forum?

Where did you hear this, I looked through the last 5-6 pages of the paranoid android thread. I am very excited if it's true, but how because it is based on CyanogenMod and 10.1 is not released yet...

Currently running 4.2.1 and very pleased with it. But occasionally need to run an app. that no longer works on 4.2. But it does work on 4.1.
Was thinking I'd like to be able to flash a 4.1 ROM when I want. Is that possible; if so which ROM please, a CM ROM would be great?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Can't, 4.1 was never released on the nexus4.
You're better off contacting that developer and time to upgrade

There will never be a downgrade to a firmware that was never on the device in the first place. The N4 was released with 4.2, and no developer will create a 4.1 ROM for it

Shame, but I had expected that would be the answer
It's the MM Tracker application that is stuck only working on 4.1. Sadly the developer has had some hassle and isn't permitted to update anymore. Something in 4.2 broke it.
Wishing I'd kept my Galaxy Nexus as a backup phone now!

I suppose an Optimus G Rom can't be modded to work on our N4? Bluetooth issues are driving me nuts,
Edit: Never mind the Optimus G Forum is dead right now :cyclops:

Tell me one. None ICS rom I have heard for Nexus 7.
There were at least one or two xda users that reported purchasing Nexus 7s with an ASUS developer build of ICS instead of the stock Google JB firmware. I don't think any of those users were able to successfully pull the ICS build off the device though.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1787888
Sorry for my late replying been busy
Now the reason I wanna downgrade is because I have a nyko play pad pro that will not work with my tab Cruz its on jelly bean...so I figured if I can downgrade to ICS I'll be able to use it..

Hey folks, when I was on the T989 GSII there was a group of awesome developers called All Star Developers that did a couple compilation ROMS meaning (CM, PA, AOKP) I looked through the development threads and didn't see anything quite like it. At least not anything that specifically states it's a compilation ROM. Am I missing anything? Or do we just kinda lack that style of ROM on the Nexus 4? If indeed we do have, what would you consider to be the most stable one?

Ok. So they're not in original development... Who's the developer? Are those relatively stable here on the Nexus 4?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
With all due respect, you should go to the development section, find the ROM you're interested it, and start reading, rather than relying on someone explaining it all to you. All the info is there.

Yeah its stable like everything else on this phone and I have used PACman ROMs they are great and I think they are only in android development that's because the dev didn't create all three ROMs

Of course it won't be original. It's all based off other dev's work.

I guess that's true. I'm just looking for opinions (reviews) from people who may have used them and have some experience with the ones available. Just a general question for the "General" thread.

Original android dev section includes the original creations like Cyanogenmod, PA, AOKP, Franco kernel, etc. Android dev section is for ROMs/kernels that are based off the original ones.

A search would have told you what the difference is.
I just bought nexus device. My old phone was s3 mini and since I used cyanogenmod whole time I'm asking which ROM based on stock Android is best for it.
Guessing that we have official releases of all Roms because this phone is just awesome it will be harder to choose

Actually Nexus 4 doesn't have more ROMs than Galaxy S3 for instance. Most developers moved to Nexus 5
Haven't tried all of them, but they are all mostly similar in terms of performance, it's the customization that is different in each ROM.
I'm on PA 4+ because it's the closest thing in terms of Stability to STOCK rom
There is no "best" ROM out there. All have there ups and downs. Threads like these are no allowed on XDA
