(Posted this in another forum as well, thought I'd look for some answers here too. I tried finding a forum for the Acer Iconia a200, but it seems the a200/a500 share this one. If not, I am sorry, please tell me if that is the case.)
First of all, THANK YOU for viewing this topic, and secondly, SHAME ON ME.
So, I used the Simpletool (SimpleRoot (super simple root for your Acer Iconia Tab A200)) to root my a200.
It worked well and I played around with the stock rom for some time.
I then decided I wanted to backup my ROM in CWM to try a custom rom. Yet it didn't work, and somewhere along the way my tablet would always get stuck at the ICONIA TAB logo.
I've spent the last hours trying to flash different recovery images to install a stock rom, I've tried factory resetting, etc... But nothing seems to work.
I am afraid to do anything more, since I feel pretty lost now, and I don't want to cause any more possible damage.
I've searched the web and read up on wiki's, but I haven't been able to find a definitive solution.
Please, it would mean so much if someone could help me.
Thanks in advance,
John
Have u got sorted yet m8? Not up with the play on the a200, I'm afraid.....
So u still have recovery but flashing a rom doesn't stick??

Hi everyone
I'm a proud owner of a Galaxy Tablet. Recently I got a message in my settings that there is an update available. This is my first tablet so I'm not veru expérienced. My tablet is rooted. It crashed a couple of times but all in all seems to be working. My question is if it's safe to update. I read in the forums about phones being bricked and other problems with updating rooted phones and tablets. Is there anything I should do before installing the update to make sure it works?
Any advice is appriciated. Cheers.
In general, I would recommend against that.
At least you will lose root, or you may semi-brick your tablet.
Rather than update, I would suggest flashing to a stock Gingerbread ROM. It will be almost the same as an update, but you will still be rooted. Or you can go with a custom GB ROM like Overcome or BOCA. If you want to get the newest, I'd go with CM9/ICS. This gives you the brand new Ice Cream Sandwich. I'm enjoying it very much on my tab. I was hesitant because the theme engine is still not there, but someone suggested to me GO Launcher EX, and that thing works like a charm on CM9.
Was just reading about SuperSU that just came out and it can trick your device into thinking its unrooted, ie for updating stock firmware but bigz is right, there's a lot to be had with custom ROM's
Here's the link for SuperSU though
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
Thank you very much people for your prompt replys. I only rooted my tablet to have an access to ad hoc wifis. I'm certainly enjoying Titanium Back Up and things like that. So I would like to stay rooted. Being inexperienced I sort of was more inclined to unroot it with a superoneclick then update it and then root it all over again.
Is it possible?
And I'm only trying to do it because I believe that the company's update is always the best. (Funny attitude for a rooted user, but I only understood it recently). Because normaly they do everything for you. So if I go with IT free spirited people then I will have a lot more questions.
* Are custom roms as stable and relyable as the official updates? Far be it from me to doubt the expertise of the guys who write them, I'm just really new to it.
* I understood from one of the posts that it might be even safer to flash a new ROM rather than do an official update. How does that work? I would like to understand before committing.
* And if I do a full back up with CWM (ROM included), does bricking bother me? I'm not very sure what bricking a tablet is.
I'll stop here with the questions not to be too heavey. My tablet: Samsung Galaxy P7310 8.9 WiFi only Honeycomb 3.1
Thanks in advance.!
Well, you are in wrong forum then.
This is for galaxy tab 7"

what your means by gtab7+ is suck as crap ...?can you just explain, don't mind i am also a samsung galaxy tab 7" user.
There is no issue in un rooting your device and then upgrading it by keis and then rooting again and restoring your apps and data, Some apps may be incompatible with new version but you can check this in the market.
Just did this last week on my son's tab.
If you are running a custom rom then having a nandroid backup by cwm is advisable and if you don't like the upgrade then restore
If you run stock then you should upgrade via keis because you will get enhancements
Hope this helps. There are sticky guides on how to do this so would not worry as long v as you follow the instructions your fine.

Hello folks I just bought the 32gb TF300T at Best Buy tonight. Got the price match via the "Office Max" ad for $349.99 plus tax...
Anyhow some questions.
I have rooted, rom'd, themed, ect... the heck out of my DroidX and am generally very comfortable mucking around in that territory but I'm reading various threads here and about concerning the permanent bricking of the TF300 if a person does something wrong. I'm used to being able to SBF & restore the DroidX if something goes amiss and bring the 'brick' alive again. That being said, I'm a bit squeemish at the moment to do any modifications with the TF300 but of course will be itching to nontheless... Mainly would like to definitely Root-Unlock(?)-Flash Roms. Any suggestions or particular threads to point me to concerning this? I've done a little looking around but there seems to be multiple methods discussed for even rooting and I'm a little uncertain on where to begin realizing this is likely a bit different than the DroidX.
Any recommendations as to "Must Have" apps and/or do most apps that work on the DroidX for example, still work on this tablet?
My uses will be for both work and play. A lot of web surfing, email, and media.
Any and all tips are appreciated! Thanks
Once you unlock the bootloader you should be good to go. Just make sure you follow directions and read up before you do anything new. Also just so you know once you unlock you cannot go back to locked and you will not get updates from asus. Currently I'm just going with it locked and rooted and I'm happy. Ics is so good already plus there aren't too many rooms out yet. Give it time though and once they start to roll out and I get sick of stock ill start flashing. I'm also holding out so that if anything goes wrong my warranty is still valid and I can get it replaced.

Howdy!
First off, nice buy, I do so enjoy my TF300T, and I'm sure you will as well.
As you prolly know from the cheaper price, Asus also used cheaper parts to build their tablets. Make sure the screen is free of defects, so you can return it for a new one if something goes wrong. It's a beautiful tablet as long as your luck is up and you don't brick it by mistake. My advice: wait a week or two. If you're happy, go ahead and visit this thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1669827) for a cyanogenmod 9 port. The Nightlies are stable, I'm using it right now, but there are still issues with GPS and Sound, which will be fixed with time and patience.
You can root (if you haven't updated past .17 and don't want to install CM9 yet) easy by using sparkyroot at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526487 ))) But if you have, do some research, and you'll find what you"re looking for.
If you do, here's something to help you along: http://www.android.gs/update-asus-t...anogenmod-9-android-4-0-4-ice-cream-sandwich/
There's more, but you have to search for it! Google is your friend.

If I've helped you, please don't forget to thank me!

I second this completely. I'm on my third tablet. The first one had a dead pixel, and the second had a hardware defect where the touchscreen went crazy if I applied any amount of pressure to the left edge of the tablet. The second one took me a few days to figure out what exactly was happening.
Thanks for the replies! I did actually take that update from Asus last night after powering it up.
My Kernel version is 2.6.39.4
Wonder if I can even root now at this moment?
Thinking of holding out for now regarding unlocking as I would sooner keep it within warranty at this time plus it doesn't seem like there are any real perks in unlocking currently if the Roms & Kernels out now are still young in development.
I would like to root though if I haven't screwed up by already taking the update so I can run TB, ect...
Thanks again guys. I'm sure there will be many questions to come!
Yer very welcome.
I do recommend the updated build.prop, it's low-profile, but helps with things such as battery life and other optimization. You need root, however.

Thanks! I did get my root very easily per this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1689193
The thing is I tried to get the CWR via:
3. If you have root and need CWM recovery.
Why? Nandroid backups and restores. Debrick. Flexibility. Numerous other reasons. ( but no OTA)
- Step 1. Run the tool "1-Click Transformer Root.bat"
- Step 2. You'll be presented with a menu. Choose option (3)
- You'll have CWM Recovery

And was unable to as option #3 is simply "Quit" :silly:
I'm wondering if one needs to be "Unlocked" to obtain CWM recovery?
Anyhoo, yea, could you point me to this updated "build.prop" discussion and method for obtaining? Anything in particular to be cautious of when doing it?
Thanks!

You need to be unlocked for CWM. In relation to the modified build.prop AFAIK there isn't one made for the lastest firmware (.30), but here's the main thread for it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1641219

Thanks for that info. I'll read up on the process now so I will have a good grip on it if/when one becomes available for the current firmware.

Wait... From that thread: Post #261 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27666040&postcount=261
It seems there are actually two for the latest firmware or am I reading something wrong?
Edit: Disregard the above. I just realized those are for the WW version and not US. If I'm understanding correctly... Whew, so much to be careful about.
when I was trying to root my note 2 I kept using odin to install what one guide told me was the root file but it turned out it was the CWMrecovery rom if you'v tryed rooting and odin says passed but its not rooted try searching in google: chainfire Auto-Root-t03g-gtn7100.zip would post the link but this is only my 3rd post so I cant yet , if this turns out to be your problem and you dont have any preference for CWM then consider going back to stock rom (search sammobile (although the rom I flashed didnt have an english keyboard ready installed for some reason despite being uk, if this happens just go into input settings>samsung keyboard settings>input languages then do an update, then download and select english)) and using triangle away to remove modified status as otherwise you cannot recieve firmware updates. Hopes this helps someone out, took me ages to figure out lol if anyone needs help with these steps ill help as much as I can just use reply (and sorry if this is rude but id prefer it if no one said thanks or started a seperate discussion by all means help someone out but dont start a conversation on which roms are the best or anything like that as it clutters threads and makes it hard to find the on topic stuff lol)
Had to ask....how old are you?

it seems to me that something happened recently that bricked everyone's a500, because it's all I'm seeing on the front page and all are recent posts...
but most people are using JB and such, I just have a stock ROM unlocked, and overclocked... still can't pass the acer logo boot screen. it just crashed before my eyes the other day, I was watching a video about lasers
I've tried to update with the latest update.zip... nothing.
I'm at a loss at what is the best next step, I'm no noob, but, I'm no pro either.
any help? ideas?
And have u read any of the posts in those recent threads that are marked as solved?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 4
yeah, they all involve custom recovery bootloaders, TWRP, CM10, JB and/or V8, if I had made those mods I'd have more options on how to fix it.
so far the only option I seem to be able to have is loading an update.zip, which I got the latest one and doesn't work.
MOD EDIT: Inflammatory comments removed.
Ok, let's cool off and take 5.
Bricked tablets are frustrating, and depressing. Trust me, I know this personally, on more than 1 occasion. But no need to let tempers flare. After all, the primary goal is to get things working.
I can personally vouch for @dibb_nz in his willingness to help a ton of people get tabs working. So no need for people to get "testy".
Not all tablets can be unbricked, but most can. It requires a lot of searching, and reviewing threads which had success. As with the 500/501, the very first step is to get the UID number. If a user does not have their UID number written down, then it requires installing Ubuntu on their pc, and getting it that way.I believe dibb has a link for it in the signature I believe. If not, lots of info for it in Q & A recently with some of the Solved cases.
Oh, and the 500/501 is not the only tab having issues like this. All the tabs do (currently working the same issue in the 700 forums, but we don't have NVFlash).
So no more testy comments from anybody please.
Cheers.

Hello all.
I've been lurking a little bit for dualboot but I haven't found any good solutions.
I saw a recovery called SafeStrap but I just couldn't get it to work. It didn't say HOW you install it and I just got mad at the whole thing and I'm wondering now if there is another way than SafeStrap? I would like to install CM and have TW as well but when I isntalled it via SafeStrap I got black screen, I have no idea if I have to have CM installed or TW when I start the process... Worst install description I've ever read.
But with that aside, is there a way to do this without the hard way?
Thanks in advance, BunnyPig.
P.S. I've also searched the forums but all I can find are either SafeStrap or months old topics, don't want to bring them up so I'll just start a new thread about it.
Bumping to see if someone missed this.
