Squeaky power button? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There's no noticeable problem with my Nexus 4 except the squeaky power button.it is very annoying and I'm afraid it will break easily. Anyone know how to reduce the squeaky noise or should I just return it? Thanks.

Yes, i also get the squeaky noise. I feel that it will eventually fall off, especially since its made of plastic. To add to the problem, my speaker is muffled and "static-ie"-loud and vibrates the volume up down keys; a vibration that can be heard.

I have problem with my speaker too. The speaker is distorted when on max volume. Are you planning on returning it?

Well, for what i paid and the deving ill be getting, no. Im good with it honestly, if i lower the volume a couple times the sound sounds alright. If the buttons break then im SOL, Ill probably sell it for $100 and get a new phone. That is just me though. If you dont feel comfortable and have patience, then definitely return it.

+1 here with a squeaky power button

Constant buzzing in earpiece during calls

As the title says, there's a constant static. Will changing earphones help? Or it a problem with phone itself like review sites say? Is there any solution because this static makes conversation impossible which pretty much defeats the purpose of the phone. If I get RMA will others phones also have this defect?

Also noticed that static goes away when I cover the speaker with something.

I have static in my earpiece with the default in call volume (which is all the way up). When I turn the volume down some I don't have it and the volume is still plenty loud. I'm not sure if it's the same noise your having.
Not sure if problem is same as yours. Noise is kinda like static which you hear in electrical interference. Something like the sound you hear from PC speaker when your phone is near it and you get a call or SMS that time. That kind of sound constant goes up and sometimes down randomly but its almost there all the time while using earpiece only, not without it. Funny thing is when I cover up the back side speaker with my hand that static goes away. Its really strange I don't know what's going on. Never had anything so irritating and unbearable on my previous galaxy s2

Known nexus 4 issue. If it's not loud enough, I recommend you to just keep it and ignore it. If it's really loud, try RMA. Mine also buzzes but I just ignore it. People think that it is due to poor shielding or something

I have the same problem. I will be asking for a replacement, because if people just accept it, it will never get fixed. This is a defect.
This is an old issue. One of the first since the N4 came out. I have always wondered if it is a noise cancellation feature gone bad. Like the buzzing wasn't meant to be so loud, but for one reason or another just got a little stronger than what it was supposed to be.

I think I agree with others that its a hardware issue because when I keep my hand on speaker the problem goes away. Plus I talked to a couple of people who said they had their phones replaced up to 3 times!! And still ended up with a defective piece. Very bad on googles part, I would have been happier to pay more but at least get a reliable device in return. I had my phone imported so RMA will be hell for me and even after that there is no guarantee. Just sad on googles part, just sad.

Do the new batch of N4's have the rattle/buzz issues?

Of the ones that were recently shipped, do they still have the camera rattle and earpiece buzz problem?
As far as I know all N4's should have this rattle as its the autofocus mechanism in the rear camera that causes that noise; as opposed to a loose or broken off part that can be "fixed".
rattle
Mine hasn't got the rattle it is loud and clear (got it in mid Jan), buy I'm sorry got those that do have it, as it ruins one of (if not the) best phone on the market

I'm more worried about earpiecebuzz than rattle. I checked most iPhone having rattle as normal

New batch still broken.
I received my Nexus 4 Feb, 6th. It has the camera rattle, which I don't mind, and the earpiece is absolutely broken. During calls, the voice is hardly noticeable, and there is a loud screeching/vibration distortion coming out of the speaker. I don't hear any buzzing when not connected to a call though, from either the earpiece or the loud speaker. Also, the first time I played with the camera, the autofocus made the rattle sound, then the phone froze and rebooted. Antutu benchmark also crashes when testing SD card at the end. Needless to say, I've reported all that to google and will be receiving a new unit soon. Very disappointing though.

My camera also rattle a bit but as far as i know it is normal. No earpiece buzzing though

The camera rattle is normal. Never seen a nexus without it (I have owned 2 and have 2 other people at my work with them)
My fresh shipment nexus still rattles and buzzes a bit.
The earpiece buzz impacts my phone only when connected to a 2.1 amp charger and is very quiet. I never noticed it until I smashed the phone up to my ear and went into a quiet area.
I`m surprise with mine, I have shaked the piss out of it and no rattles at all, I received it Feb 6th:good:
I seemed to be the only one who doesn't get ear buzz :S

Some people can't hear at that frequency. My coworker can't hear mine, but I can.

Well I'm just about ready to give up, on second RMA for 8gb, and just got my new 16gb and all have the earpiece buzz, very noticeable when in calls and only minor all the other time. I'm fine with the rattle but the buzz drives me crazy.
16 gb buzzes only when screen is on, 8gb buzzes all the time
Anyone else having bad luck like me? Starting to wonder if I'm just paranoid.

Not sure about you guys, but I get the rattle once in a while while in a call. Never got the buzz. I asked some of my coworkers to see if they can hear a buzzing sound and none of them heard it.. Autofocus rattle is there though, but I expected that. Overall, doesn't bother me too much as long as I can hear the person I'm talking to (which I can)
I got a couple free from T-Mobile 3 days ago and have noticed no rattle and the speakers all sound great. I can hear a slight noise if I shake the phone.
Side note: this thing gets really hot on both sides of the phone (screen/back plate) where the processor is located.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
The rattle is by design... Don't listen to people who say they don't have a rattle. May be they have a faulty device because the camera doesn't rattle.
I have an iPhone 5 and lumia 920 and the camera in those phones also rattle when I shake the phone.

If rattling noise you mean by a piece is literally rolling around the inside of your phone then no. All cameras have a little rattle to them. No biggy.
Rattle Solution!!!

I've had my phone for a week now and have noticed no strange noises coming from it at all. But then I'm 66 years old and my wife says I'm deaf so what do I know.

Volume Rocker Wobble

My Nexus 4's volume rocker is slightly wobbly. Is that normal? It's also fairly low against the phone. I can press it fine, but wondering if it should be more extended? Or are they all like this?
Secondly, I bought a cheap TPU case to tie me over till my Ionic Guardian arrives. It's similar to this;
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Google-Nexu...6/ref=tag_stp_s2_edpp_url/280-1243765-6759331
I couldn't use the volume buttons with the case on so used a knife to cut out the piece over the buttons. I can now access them but I can only use my nail. Could that damage my phone using doing that instead of using the full finger?
Or am I just being overly pedantic?
Anyone?
You can find several threads on wobbly and noisy volume button in this forum...
So it's normal?
How about using my nails to change the volume? Just don't want to damage my phone you see, expensive phone for a poor student haha.
Yeah it is. Mine is the same. I find it cheap and low quality but I understand why. I saw a video of a guy dissembling the nexus 4 and the volume rockers can be taken off very easily. So essentially, they're pretty loose. Its normal.

The Moto G "rattle"

Got one today and if you give it a little shake it rattles like a childs toy
Also no 3 pin plug or earphones in the box just a usb cable
The rattle is amazing though :good:
Mine did rattle very bad too ending up sticking a thin bit of paper between the power button and the case. Rattle is no more quick temp solution really.
That doesn't sound good

I've heard a tiny rattle from all of my recent phones (incl. HTC 8X, and iPhone 5). This Moto G doesn't sound any different to me.
My is steady like a rock...

Google it? just kidding, rattle is basically when you shake some object and you can hear the pieces inside of it bouncing and making noise likes a kid's toy.

I thought the handset was defective and something inside was defective and rattling about
However , it is just the power and volume rocker buttons what rattle when you shake the phone.
Very peculiar when i first heard it but for the price i paid £99 its not really a problem . Keeps my young baby occupied aswell

Funny thing is that I could hear when tapping on the screen. Annoying!
I've just bought mine "Colors 16GB Dual sin addition" and hearing all of this reports from you guys makes me concern and kind of scary either.
Will my handset come with this annoyance as well? Err I hope it doesn't '-'
Probably.

I'm more concerned about the Metallring around the Camera then of the Sound the Camera does. I have this Sound too, but i dont care much about it. Some Cams are doing it.
Make a Video with the flash as light or use a Heatrate Monitor where you have to put your finger onto the cam, the Ring gets really Hot after a very short Time...even the Ledflash does.
No rattle here on new tesco 16gb moto g
This is just due to production tolerances on the buttons and body. If they only accepted builds which didn't rattle a little, the price would go up. You could most definitely fix it with a little bit of paper if you want. I'd rather have a percentage of them rattle than be too tight and have button problems.
Mine does rattle a bit on the buttons, but not a huge deal. Thinking of getting the motorola grip shell that covers the buttons, maybe it gets better.
Anyway, what is annoying me a bit is the camera on/off sound. Its noticeable when you enter the camera app and even louder whem exiting. I have a friend with a moto g too and it does the same. Is it general?

My phone finally made it here and it rattles way more than the actual kid's toy '-'
I've had the chance to use three different Moto G phones and the power button rattles somewhat in all. They all also exhibit the weird clicking noise when turning the camera on/off.

S7 edge home button click

My home button makes a relatively loud click noise when I press it dead center. If I press it on the right or left it is a lot quieter.
Is this normal?

Mine does the same thing.
It irritates me greatly
I just got the S7E and that home button is driving me nuts... When at work or out it's ok, other sounds manage to silence it a bit but I still hear it. Did you notice after some time it becoming more normal? This feels so cheap. Even my TAB S2 have a solid home button with normal clicking sound this one is just plain stupid making a premium phone feel like peace of crap I was thinking of going to my seller and asking for a replace or try ti repair it in Samsung shop but if that is a deal to all phones there is no point. Anyway sorry for bumping old topic but would like to hear how is the button after few month. Thanks.
