" you are now a developer". Has this always happened with nexus devices???? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So while goofing around with my phone tonight... I tapped the 4.2 several times to show the jelly bean, nerdy I know... But I then taped the build number several times on the bottom and it have me a tap countdown until the message " you are now a developer" displayed? I didn't know anything about that and again it may be normal but if anyone could comment or if anyone knows does it do anything software wise to my phone?

Its in 4.2.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium

It is another change in Jellybean 4.2. It is made so that n00bs don't go into the developer settings and mess up anything. I think it is a great job done by Google to add that.

Thanks for the replies... I hadn't read anything about it yet.

It's only in a couple hundred threads as you need to get into the developer options to enable USB debugging in order to root and mod the phone. You can't use adb or fastboot till you enable usb debugging. Jelly Bean is the first version of Android where the developer options are hidden.

Google Splash Screen.

Ok, we've seen things picking up for the NS4g and as development continues, I haven't seen this brought up. I love the Google slash screen on boot. It looks like heaven, but upon root a little lock appeared at the bottom, ruining my heaven with a opened gate. Anybody have some input on how to hide it? Give me a rough idea and ill try to make something flashable. Just a little inexperienced to just jump in.

Not possible.

it is possible. i did it to mine just to test it out, therefore relocking the bootloader. via fastboot, type in the command "fastboot oem lock"...
Yeah well next time you need to access the bootloader and you have to unlock it it's going to wipe your entire storage and device.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Yeah I thought just locking it too,but didn't for that reason. Sucks its not possible, I hate the lock.

Out of all the time u will spend looking at your phone, how often do u have to see this lock really?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
If it bugs u that much, just back up ur phone. But I agree it is an inconvenience.

I've been looking for the splashscreen folder (if there is one) in root explorer. Can't seem to locate it. I'd like to make some custom splashscreens.

People were looking for months to try to change it on the N1, with zero luck. It's not possible and completely inaccessible guys.

The .png for the lock must be somewhere, if you can decompile and replace that .png with a transparent one

Why is it not accessible on the Nexus phones but it is accessible on the EVO?
This line is in /init.rc:
export ANDROID_BOOTLOGO 1
Does that tell you anything?
Nope, not really

I am sure its a silly question.

What do I need to enable to stop the 4.2 update constantly asking me to upgrade now or later? Usually you can just have the option to skip it no?
I know my phone won't ask unless I search under software updates.
This one pops up on the constant and happy with 4.1.2. Not feeling the terrible reviews on 4.2 so just want to skip it for now or till a more stable one comes out.
appreciate any help.

[INFO] Stop OTA update nagging
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
The suggestions in the reply above are the best but they all require a rooted Nexus. Until you root your tablet try on Google Services Framework in Settings - Apps - All column:
1. Disable Notifications - fewer update reminders.
2. Clear Data - forgets an update is ready but may just re-download one.
3. Disable GSF - stops reminders but breaks Google Play Store and others.
I use number 3 as JB 4.1.2 works perfectly.
I have got similar prob but I am on 4.2. hoping this will work.

You can long press the notification and go to app info and uncheck the show notification box as well.

Thanks for the replies guys. Really don't understand why its setup this way. Wish it was like my S3.
Not really wanting to root this yet, but if the above don't work, may have too.

Advance settings?

To get it working I saw online that you need to get into advance options. Where is advance options? I don't see it.
Apparently I need to set something with the USB bus mode

Go to about phone and tap the model type seven times. Then you should be able to enable usb debugging.
I think it's model type but if that doesn't work try build.

Again, what you read online was from january. Ergo, it was meant to address settings in gingerbread or honeycomb. Nellybean does not have those settings. What the post above me is describing is the "developers settings". It is for usb debugging, and will not make your usb keyboard work. If you would have provided the info asked for in your other post on the exact same issue, such as rom, kernel, you would not need two seperate posts for the same thing.

adb not working properly

ok, long story short...adb is showing device but its offline.
i have a Rezound, Galaxy Nexus, and Droid DNA and adb works fine. I've tried different cables and different usb ports.
Weird part...........
if I reboot into bootloader, fastboot works fine. and if Im in recovery, adb works fine.
See picture.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
AW: adb not working properly
It's a new security feature and there are already several threads about that topic. Normally on your tablet a popup message should be shown asking you whether you want to allow your PC to access.

i got it! i'm not even sure what I did but the damn message finally came up.
i think the trick is....even if your ADB is in your PATH...you gotta cd/sdk/platform-tools and then use ./adb instead of just adb

Can no longer “check in" on FB

I know this sounds silly but it's actually really bothering me, mostly because I can't figure out why it's not working.
When I had my phone stock unrooted I could check in on FB.
When I was stock rooted I could still check in on FB.
I debloated, installed xposed and wanam, added a modded launcher and now I can't check in.
What crazy is I have done almost all the same changes to my wife note 3 and she still can check in.
Only thing we have done different is the debloating.
Curious if anyone else has broke this after debloating?
Thanks

And nothing else on phone appears to be broken. Gps is working for all other features
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
Probably one of the apps you froze. If you get it figured out let us know. But not logging into FB might be considered a feature by some.
Sent from my SCH-I905 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Is this via the FB app or browser? If browser make sure you haven't disabled javascript. I temporarily turn off javascript when browsing XDA so it doesn't constantly refresh but it also breaks things.
In the android app

Check if there has been a update since you rooted that may have caused it. And try the normal, if you haven't already, reinstall and who's phone cache.

Nobody cares that u stopped by Costco to buy toilet paper. Wutever broke that "check in" feature did u a favor.
...im kidding bro. plz dont take offense. I just love giving facebookers a hard time. having said that, I appear to be the only person in the milky way galaxy without a facebook account so maybe I should be the one getting cracked on. im also the only person in the galaxy that still has a Myspace so im sorta cool right??

Facebook has been having issues lately. My wife had me log in yesterday to check something and we both couldn't post. Intermittent posting issues.

Ok so I figured out out has something to do with my settings. Because I logged into my wife's account on my device and the check in ability worked perfectly.
Now to try and figure out what setting is messed up on my device.

I don't know if u have enabled ur developer options but the last time I had a problem like that with fb it was because I had changed a setting called "don't keep activities" if it is checked u should uncheck it...if ur developer options are not activated then it has to be something else...hope this helps

I found out this has something entirely to do with how I have my settings in the app... what sucks is I can't figure out what I've done. GPS works on all other applications on my device, just not on Facebook check in. So annoying!
