Does wallet work with root? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am on stock rooted 4.2 and wallet never successfully sends my card info to the cc machine. It knows a reader is there and tries and "dings" but then says " your read may not have been successful. Ask cashier if the card was processed " or something like that.
Can anyone confirm wallet making successful NFC transactions with root installed?

Since Wallet was introduced, the few purchased I've made have been on my rooted Galaxy Nexus. I have not attempted an NFC payment since 4.1.1 was released however.

I just went in again, and it reprovisioned and allowed me back into my card! I'm adding funds and I'm off to the races. I really wish they'd allow me to add my regular credit card. Hopefully that is on the way, but this is a step in the right direction!
I just up dated from 2.3.4 to 4.0.3 and i just installed the apk for it and sure enough it just started working with out having to do anything. I do agree that i wish i could just put my card on it right now but i know that there are to many banks and credit unions that are out there, it would just take to long. How ever i do know that my credit union is working to get their debit cards setup with the nfc in them but its going to take a while, but when they get it in there cards then they be getting with google to get their self's on google wallet.

[Q] Using google wallet w/root

Hello,
When I first purchased the phone, I was able to use the wallet nfc feature at my local sheetz and Mcdonalds. However, after rooting my phone, these two places stopped accepting my payments. I know the nfc is still functional as my nfc enabled tags work just fine and my wallet function works at rite aid.
Is it a coincidence the two aforementioned retailers stopped taking my nfc wallet after rooting or does rooting actually affect it?
Thx:laugh:
Bump
Google wallet says it doesn't support rooted phones because of potential security issues they can't control. I'm not sure that that would actually block your payment though. Are you sure you're properly set up in the app?

I've never had a problem with root and Google Wallet. I'm just glad mine started working again just recently after nearly 1.5 months.
Which version are you using?

[Q] Verizon with Google Wallet

My G2 arrives Wednesday.
Not sure about rooting as there aren't that many ROMS out yet and from what I can tell, they're not 4.3.1 (if that matters?)
Anyway, I have a Verizon Galaxy Nexus and once rooted I could never get Google Wallet to work. Always got that secure element error.
If I root this phone, will GW work (if it is there)?
TIA
I don't think it will. I'll download and double check. Everything but NFC is set up to work with any carrier.

Except Sprint. Sprint and Google formed a Google Wallet partnership a long time ago.
The Sprint system dump has been uploaded online so it's a matter of time until someone is able to make Google Wallet's NYC capabilities work on other variants.

I don't understand why Wallet didn't work for you on the Toro Gnex. I used tap to pay every morning with mine and it was rooted running AOKP. Tap to pay is what I miss the most using the G2. Apparently Wallet requires a secure element for NFC payments and from what I have read, the G2 doesn't have it. There was a thread a couple weeks ago about this and I don't think anyone could get the NFC payments to work. To answer your question, the "new" google wallet app works fine on a rooted G2. You can send money by email but no tap to pay.
Tap to pay is the only reason I would use GW...Oh well...

ISIS wallet on rooted devices/free $50

ISIS Wallet, while I don't like it nearly as much as Google Wallet, is giving away a $50 credit for a few more weeks when you install it and sign up for the prepaid AmEx card, so I figured I'd give it a shot.
To get ISIS to work on your rooted Maxx, you must have Xposed on your phone, and install the ISIS Root Bypass module located here (I used the 2.0 version and it allowed ISIS to run on my Maxx):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2425346
Procedure I followed to install:
1. Install ISIS and verify that you get the error about being rooted when you run it (I didn't give it root access).
2. Install Xposed.
3. Install the linked ISIS Root Bypass apk.
4. Activate the bypass in Xposed.
5. Reboot.
6. Run ISIS and sign up for the prepaid card.
Haven't verified that it will actually make a purchase yet, as I haven't had a chance, but it did run without the "rooted device" error and shows my prepaid card with the $50 balance.

I'm interested to see if it actually works with payment. I've installed and will try when I swing by somewhere that takes contactless payment. If anyone else tries before that, please share your experience.
i only got $10 how do you get $50?
I used it to buy a soda from a vending machine at the courthouse. It worked as expected.
But I only got $10, too, and would like to know where to find the $50 offer so I can ask amex to give it to me, too.
Yeah $10 here too but no root either.

Thanks! Dude, I'm not rooted yet (waiting on the next update first) but i did get the $50 on the serve card. You cant beat free money especialy at Christmas time!
Just used it at McDonald's, works fine. The $50 just showed up, not sure if it was a Verizon only deal, but looked like it was just for installing ISIS and activating the Serve card through the app.

Nice thing is, I've got a Maxx and my wife has a Mini, so between the two of us we got $100 free.

First try, didn't work for me at RiteAid today. Held it to payment - it buzzed and told me on my phone to please confirm with cashier or terminal however no confirmation on terminal, just stayed at screen for payment input. Might speak more towards RiteAid's services than the app however so I'll try it somewhere else.

Does RiteAid accept AmEx? That's the one big drawback on this for me, the only places where I live that I can use this is pretty much McDonald's, because not very many places accept AmEx AND have the fast pay option. Worked without a hitch at McD's last night, though, actually much smoother than GWallet ever was for me.

Yeah they accept it. Found it using the Where To Pay locator on https://www.paywithisis.com/ and it had the symbol and everything. Just didn't seem to send the payment information or the terminal isn't working right. Gonna try at CVS by house to test to see which.

At my rite-aid it didn't work until the cashier hit the button from his side. With the "normal" cards it takes the info and doesn't process it until the cashier hits the ready to checkout button, but since the NFC needs a handshake, it won't move forward until then.
Sounds like the cashier was too dumb to do it, so next time ask if there's something they can hit to checkout on their side. My cashier looked bewildered and would only push the button at my prompting, so I'd say try again.

Thanks. I definitely wouldn't rule out human error. Cashier was fresh off the boat. I'll try that.

ANY place that uses PayPass, payWave etc will work with Isis, Google Wallet
I've used it at 7-11, CVS, Walgreens, Wal-Mart, Toys R Us, Babies R Us plus many others

Anyone know if this can be combined with the Isis 20%/$200 Offer?
Isis 20% Offer
Wow that was quick and painless. $50 showed up within minuets of creating the account.
Off to Toys R Us for a test.

Tap and pay on VZW Note 3 - 5.0 and unfortunately no root

Does anyone know if tap and pay will work with a non-rooted Note 3 after the new android pay app comes out. My tap n pay doesn't work with the old Google Wallet either. Thx

The required HCE security chipset is not built into the Note 3 for android pay. So unless they change the software with extreme security precautions, it will not work.

I will confirm this on the weekend. I just spoke to Verizon tech to order new sim card for two new phones (upgrading other users, not note 3s). I asked about that and they stated the nfc sim card is incompatible only on the note 3 but they are freely sending out new updated ones to anyone who ask for it. I did and they said two day shipping on my new nfc/sim card combo that should work with Google wallet/android pay. I will update you with results this weekend. After some research, this is my conclusion after reading between the lines of the tech girl who said she has sent out many new sim/nfc cards for note 3 users since isis/soft card shutdown. My conclusion is the note3 cam with a locked sim/nfc to work only with isis. Since it shutdown, Verizon is giving out the HCE (unsecured) sim/nfc cards (free of charge, just ask them for it).
