[Q] how to change ROM on HTC HD2 - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

so i got an HD2 device i'v just recived.
its currently working with the windows rom i belive,
i really dont like this rom, it does not support my home langugage (hebrew),and it is quit complicated.
as it seems i am new to the HTC devices and i am here to ask for help as an HTC noob,
i want to change my rom to an android rom wich will support all the things i need like music, apps (whatsapp, facebook, games and any kind of application that a smartphone should be able to run), camera, videos and more,
i found lots of roms here and guids, but as an noob those guides are really not understandable and really make my head hurt, lol.
could some one explain to me step by step how to make my lame windows phone to an modern awesome android phone?
thanks very much, yoni.

Please read the guide in my sig that says 'a guide to all of the terms for the HD2', it has everything you need to know about this sort of stuff. After that either use mengfei's guide or the second guide in my sig which explains the flashing process.

some help
Not wanting to invite flames but I kind of understand why people ask this, I think this forum is excellent but organisation is not 100% and it is not always straight forward or easy to find information. I had to do a lot of hunting to find that the answer was far simpler than suggested on any of these stickies etc.
All I did to get android on my phone was:
Install HardSPL onto my PC then install Hard SPL 2.08 onto my phone.
Next I updated the radio to 2.12
The above can be found through:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732380
Next I installed excellers multi boot loader and copied an android build to my phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=737001
Now I agree there is some reading and learning to do and you have to work out things if they don't work but this should help you narrow down what you have to do and what you don't have to do. You don't have to change the windows mobile rom, I am still running the vodafone 1.6 version, the important parts are hardspl and the radio being a high version.
I can well recommend the shubcraft build, use the rmnet version if uk.
ready for the flames now
Burn baby burn
HSPL3. get HSPL3.
Are you kidding?????? There is a complete step by step guide right at the top and it was even linked for the OP, but yet you people still need to reply with a VERY short version of the guide ??????????
ok guys, thread closed...

overwhelmed

ok so I have been using the stock rom and all the stuff on my phone but it keeps getting bugged out of the screen gets unlocked randomly and does stuff when its in my pocket which is very annoying and a friend told me android just kills winmo..
but im looking at this forum and its just overwhelming..i see errors i see solutions i see roms i see this that ...I have NO IDE where to start!
so I got a little list with questions
:
1.if I instal any android version, do I lose all my programs, contacts basically information i have ?
2.how much better is it for an average user to go to andoid? average i mean i dont tweak it that much just used cookie home tab and bsb to upgrade performance but that is it..
3.how do i go on about installing apps on my android? i mean does it use bsb and cht? or like games from windows marketplace? how do i instal stuff like poker games and all the nonsense?
4.where do i get the most easy tutorial on how to put andoid on my phone? I dont want to read a whole page long of explanations on how to's i just wanna instal all the necessary apps or whatever and be done with it(i know im lazy)
so yeah any1???
if any1 would have the time to help me on msn id appreciate it ALOOTTT
[email protected]
Don't do this if you're too lazy to do some reading. You can potentially brick your phone if you are not 100% sure of what you are doing, and I know it's overwhelming the first time, but it's worth reading all these technicalities.
Just follow the stickies, or stick with winmo.
thanks for the tip..but updating my rom was way more easy then they showed..thats what i meant sorrry...
like when i first got the phone i went here and was like WOAH so many stickies etc...then i just downloaded the stuff i needed (hspl) and did what i thought made sense and it all worked perfectly...so the reading isn't all that needed imo..thats why i want a link to some basic introductions on what to do
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732380
shows an easy step by step how too
its all installed on an SD card so it doesnt touch your current set-up (windows mobile)
install 1 see how you like it if you dont just reboot your phone back to windows easy
and i mean easy just follow the steps like im sure u did with hspl and trying different roms.
JR
huh so andoid is installed OVER winmo? not instead of? this got me confused!
yeah so if u dont have an sd card u cant run android! best of starting with a nicely formatted sd card with only the android files on it, just remember to choose the right radio
hmmmm but why doesnt it run instead of winmo if i may ask? wont that make it way faster? :O but damn that sucks haha my sd card is full of stuff i need i guess ill put it all on my pc for the time being then! so how do i go about choosing a right radio? i never understood that haha i think ima just use the latest one i read on the tutorial
now that i thnk about it..you have to boot up android EVERYTIME you turn off your phone? that sucks :/
but at least if you run android you might just like it wayyyyy better???? enough to put up with booting after windows is loaded, try n see buddy,,, try n see
Check this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732380
damn i hate that i have to download radios, roms etc as well for this to work :/ arggg...i just want a freaking stock rom etc lmao darnit i guess i have alot of trial and error to go trough
any1 got msn? :/ spamming this forum is kinda useless if any1 can help me within the matter of minutes on msn xD
little offtopic but im flashing a new radio on it along with the guide you guys gave me for andxoid and it gives me [ERROR260] connection
it says it cant connect or something after like5mins of the program running..i have enough bat life(89%) so thats not the problem :/ any1?

no it doesnt run from the phone, you have to manually start it eeach time you reboot the phone, if that is too much hassle then to be honest, you are best off either sticking to winmo or selling the phone and getting a proper android phone

well here there whine * i did read the must red thread BUT i came across some problems which is why i asked what or how to fix the code 260 error with RUU, if that is fixed then I'll be able to install a new radio and a new rom AND after that run the android ....i tried running A now but it just freezes and dies because i do not have the latest/best suited rom and radio to do the job...sorry if i do not know how this forum works the first few times i use it im not a nerd I agree, i do not know allot about pc's and phones and how the exactly work but I THOUGHT thanks to a forum dedicated to sharing and helping I could gain skills and knowledge so I do not have to ask new stuff the next time.

Gave up waiting and installed Cyanogen

Well guys I gave up waiting for Froyo from HTC and have spent the morning doing the rather tricky task of rooting my Legend and installing Cyanogen.. it was a bit of a nightmare and I wouldn't recommend beginners try it but its installed now and I like it a lot.. and hey its froyo... no more running out of space!
Why wouldn't you advice beginners to try it?
It wasn't that hard for me and I'm really glad I did it.
Didn't had any experience with the adb but I liked it a lot it wasn't super easy but I was glad I pulled it off.

What I meant was if you don't even know how to unzip stuff for example or you don't know what a command prompt is... I wouldn't bother trying to do it!
It was a pain in the behind for me during the first attempts as i needed to use the hack to be able to downgrade wich took me quite some time lookin into , once done that the only thing that actualy got in my way was the port remaining open , had no idea why it couldnt connect my device , but if you copy any error from just about anything into google , most likely within 30mins of that your problems are solved.
Either way it isnt really that hard just need some common sence and patience, read things completely and dont rush tru it and yer done in a jiffy.
Have fun for those trying
Also, the learning curve is invaluable. My first experience on these forums was downgrading and rooting. I'm no expert, but I know a lot more than I did in 3(ish) short months.
I think the main thing is follow the how-to's STEP by STEP and you and your phone will just be fine.
And reading posts from the beginning to the end helps 2
over and out !
Step by Step instructions for noobs?
Can someone then point me to step by step instructions from a vanilla 2.1 vodafone legend to use the azure mod?
The only reason why I ask is Ive read a bunch of postings and gotten totally confused.. I know I need to create a gold SD card, boot, patch then downgrade to 1.3 and then Im kinda stuck..
Oh for the record I am technical (java programmer now architect) but its a case of cant see the trees caus. of the forest!!!
thanks all
Angelo
ps if we could make this a sticky that would be fab
Did you read the sticky in the developers thread? It trells you exactly how to do it.
Sent from my Legend using XDA App
I did the same... It took me some time to get through everything (mostly due to my Internet connection here in Afghanistan), but I got it done, and I'm so glad I did. I wasn't unhappy with RUU 2.03, but I really needed to have PIN security instead of the silly pattern thing. I will definitely go back to RUU once it's available.

[Q] How to port/cook an Android ROM for HD2 (chefs please help)

Hello
I'm looking for some hints about the subject: how anyone can take a shipped, let me say, HTC Desire rom and let it work on HD2.
I'm not talking about doing heavy tweaks, modifications and so on... just to take a stock Android ROM and have it working on HD2.
I asked to some chefs and received some hints but It's not enough.
I don't want to think that this is a "secret" and I think would be great if some chef would share his experience/step-by-step instruction on how to do this.
As I said before, I think we could start just with simple porting of a stock htc desire ROM, just to understand all the steps. I think that further steps on how to customize and tweaks will be explored later and anyone could experiment itself.. but we need a basic starting point.
Some step by step instruction will be great like:
1) Download shipped rom from here .........
2) unrar it in linux folder
3) copy this folder, rename the other one, dowload this file, copy this...
4) execute shell command XXXXX
5) copy on your sd card
6) boot...
of course I know it's not so easy, but is just an exaple on what I ask here. I think there are a lot of other perople looking for this.
Thanks to any chef/dev that would to explain to our noobs how to get the "magic"
p.s.
I ask the moderators to keep, if possible, this thread in the Dev forum... this because we need help from devs here and in the Q&A forum it will be never noticed.

Yes, I was pointed to that thread too. If you look at the end there are some questions I did. The problem is that is based on MIUI... That is already a custom ROM.
I think the better way to understand the process (not just do it) is to have hints on how to port a standard/stock HTC DESIRE rom.

Hello, I was just replying on the other thread to thanks you for the answers
I will try to follow your guide to port a stock desire rom (strange that are laggy for you... for me they fly...)
Anyway it's still something not clear about the donor files... If it's ok to take them from an already HD2 working rom or not.. but I will ask on your thread, avoid to make confusion
no one tip from the devs?
I'm start thinking that instructions on rom cooking for hd2 is like a secret
I've asked this many times, but as you said, no one seems to want to share this "secret"...

Did you cook a MIUI rom or a Sense rom or a stock android rom?
For the cedesmith's initrd.gz I was thinking the same thing.. maybe we have to ask directly to him.

best roms on xda. Really nice work guys!
But still, no one shares the "secret" I have tried several things myself, but it didnt work. Would really appreciate if someone could share how to port a rom to the hd2.
Yeah would be great if tyween and rafpigna let us know how they managed it, what guides/reference they started of on or if they have any tips for us etc
I totally agree, I would definitly cook my own rom if I knew how to...

HTC HD2 - Changing to Android. Pls Help

Hi,
I have just purchased a new HTC HD2 on T-Mobile (U.K.) and I am loving it !
I am a total novice and wish to change from Windows 6.5 to the better latest Android OS.
Can anyone please tell me how to do this? I have no idea what I am doing and do not want to do something which may jeopardise the phone (I do know that it does affect the warranty) The only thing I know about 'Flash' it flashing my mobile in public.
I would really like if someone can give me Step by Step instructions via a video so I can see what I am doing.
Any feedback would be really appreciated.
Many thanks

Don't rush anything. Make sure you have a good idea about what you're doing and what you can do if things go wrong. If you're unsure about anything just use the search feature first and if you're still iffy about something, ask a question.

I think you are making this harder than it needs to be. Just follow the instructions given to you in your previously started thread about the same thing. The link to MSkip gives you detailed instructions on how to install Android on your HD2 and how to revert back to WM6.5 if you so desire.

Google is your friend. Haven't used it in a while. If you are that unsure of flashing Android to your HD2 just buy an Android powered phone. Sorry to be so brash but just follow the instructions.

I'll try to explain a bit. First off you've got to install the things that let you install Android in the first place (HSPL, MAGLDR, CWM etc) and after that you install a ROM. A ROM is the thing that will decide what version of Android you phone will have. If you don't like the ROM you have, or if you just want the newest version of Android, all you have to do is change it. You don't have to re-install everything again, just your ROM.
You might have to change your CWM partition size when you choose a new ROM, but the chef (person who made the ROM) will let you know what size you need in the thread. This is also easy and doesn't require you to re-install everything. Don't worry if you don't know what a CWM partition is because it'll make sense eventually.
