[help request] Cam starting error

hi,
i installed some apps like bsbtweaks.. after a day i realised my cam app only work after first mins of reboot , if i run app and try to open cam it says like : failed to setup cam etc.
this is my first experience on hd2 and wm, what can i do to solve this problem ? thanks , btw i can edit registry or system files =)
offical and last firmware.
Disable all extra modes and resolutions for camera in BSB. Those extra modes needs more RAM, which is usually only available after start, and/or when no other application is running (Opera 10 is known to eat almost all RAM for example).
thank you , i have already disabled them but it was still not working , then i found a registry entry that says " deactivate" in cam settings and set it to 0 , cam is working for now in full ram , but i am still test-ng if it is going to be ok.
If push comes to shove, a hard reset usually fixes most issues !
I am getting errors again ... any ideas ? not hard reset please =)

Gallery not working under android 2.2 ?

Hi,
any idea why gallery is not working under android 2.2 (froyo) ?
-> tried remove all files from SDcard, etc ... but doesn't work.
on cat console i see:
ActivityManager(14869): Activity pause timeout for HistoryRecord{43f38130 com.cooliris.media/.Gallery}
+ all the time ...
SharedBufferStack(14869): waitForCondition(ReallocateCondition) timed out (identity=30, status=0). CPU may be pegged. trying again.
if i kill gallery, then it disapear
PLS: what i found: if you want to disable a folder not to use for gallery ..
create a file".nomedia" in the folder which you don't want to view ..
via comand: touch .nomedia
NVM wrong device forum
i'm tried now:
as base:
.) haret 1.4
.) XDANDROID.2.2.AOSP.29.07.2010.system.ext2.7z
upgrade to:
.) system.ext2 -> XDANDROID.2.2.AOSP.29.07.2010.system.ext2
.) rootfs.img -> rootfs-20100803-e529592.img
.) zimage -> zImage_20100802_181548
.) modules -> modules-2.6.27.46-01137-g72aab2e.tar.gz
alternative for gallery .. -> Astro File Manager is working for pictures ...
now, must search for a newer "system.ext2" build ..
Gallery3D wont work due to out of memory issue on our blac100 hw3d.There are no msm7k devices with WVGA screen that we can use for reverse engineering.Just find an old Gallery.apk which is 2D

thanks, good to know, that it doesn't work ...and it is a knowing bug ...
i must try if i can uninstall the gallery3d and to find an older one ...
anyhow ...i can use the astro file manager for now ...
now i made the fat32-7GB/ext2-600MB/linuxswap-64MB partitioning and installed again android 2.2 ....
and testing the speed, seems to be faster .... but must check why the WLAN doesn't work now with this kind of installation.

[Q] ROMs & Kernels ... what do they do?

I'm trying to learn ... Android still too new to me ..
What is the difference between ROM & Kernel ... what does the ROM do and what does the Kernel do?
How do you change them or the they go tight toguether.
Thanks.
Pozi.
kernel is a part of rom. all roms come with a kernel, but if you want you can change the kernel of a rom (as i did yesterday)
the ROM is the software (like the OS) of the phone.
Lets simple say that ROM is the Library and the Bookcases and kernel its the books,
Rom is the OS
and kernel is saying the os that THATS the wifi antena and thats how you will use it for example

Glad you are trying to learn so here is my explanation .....
You have the following layers in your device
1 - - > The HARDWARE
2 - - > The IPL / SPL (Collectively called the Boot Loader - Similar to PC BIOS)
3 - - > If you have MAGLDR / CLK (This would be a SECONDARY Boot loader)
4 - - > The Device Drivers (These will allow the Software to talk to hardware)
5 - - > The Kernel collects code / protocols / modules to make up the OS Base.
(It is worth noting that Android also includes device drivers as part of the kernel)
6 - - > Then comes the various OS builds (Froyo / Gingerbread / HoneyComb)
As you can clearly see from above,
Layer 1 is your mobile (it's what you touch physically).
Layer 2 is what boots up your mobile in the beginning (i.e. the tri-color screen...)
Layer 3 is MAGLDR (1.2.3.GO! GO! GO!)
Layer 4 is the software which talks to all your hardware pieces making up mobile (these include WIFI / BLuetooth / Camera / Radio / Memory / Sound / Video etc)
Layer 5 also includes layer 4 (in case of Android)It also includes all OS components
Layer 6 is your OS which puts everything together and provides you with a friendly UI to communicate with the hardware )
Layers 4 - 5 - 6 ... are usually included within a ROM. ROM stands for Read Only Memory which is non volatile strictly speaking. ROMS are called ROMS because they are stored in NAND meaning that when you turn of your mobile the ROM isn't lost......People play around with kernels to get hold of OS patches / app framework upgrades / driver updates in order to get more stable builds ....
Cheers and Thanks for hitting the thanks button

Alcatrazx: Fantastic post for learning!
MANY thanks, you've sure won the thanks button .

Collection of Tips & Tricks about our Xperias // Android, Rooting, General

Hi,
I'm using my xperia arc s now since 2 years and have collected some intersting tips which might be interesting for you.
- Android is Modular: You can replace any .apk from themes and apps for example on any ROM - Let's say you use a ROM called "Mod CM10" which is based on CM10, you can use themes & apps which are made for stock CM 10
Else: You use Ultimate HD but want a different statusbar theme. Simply pick a systemUI.apk theme and flash it - as long as it works on stock ics its going to work in ics based ROMs
- CMW flasahbles: You can always view them with winrar and see whats inside - change or replace content & you can still flash it. Simple as 123
- Your phone charges in CWM
- Free RAM is NOT wasted RAM - 100mb is a good value of free RAM
- You can't crossflash mods from cm10 to ics
- to disable led lights, simply edit hw_config.sh to echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/max_current
- OC only slightly boosts performance
- If you install CWM via xParts, it'll put a few files into /system directory - you can always select locked bl in AROMA of some ROMs & it'll do the same
- Maps, Facebook and Messenger CAN be freezed when your gaming to save nearly 100mb's of RAM
- Thousands of build.prop tweaks WON'T IMPROVE ANYTHING
- Easteregg of about phone > android version is in /system/framework/framework-res.apk/res/drawable-hdpi and /system/framework/framework.jar/smali/android/internal/Platlogo.smali
- To decompile .apks you always need to install framework from the device the apk is from
- use alogcat to take logcats or terminal: logcat > sdcard/log.zip
- Lockscreen popus switches are framework-res.apk
- onscreenbuttons, statusbar etc are systemui.apk
Many more cooming as soon as I rememeber lol

Stock RAM management with default kernel

Hello all,
I'm on custom ROM with a custom kernel too and I'm facing lag issue due to how kernel is managing SWAP and RAM memory.
I don't really want to revert back to stock ROM so could someone tell me what are the values for stock kernel concerning memory management (need to have Root) ?
This is what you only need to do :
- Install MTweaks : https://github.com/morogoku/MTweaks-KernelAdiutorMOD/releases
- Allow root access then go to "Low memory killer" section, take a screenshot/tell me every values
- Lastly go to "Virtual memory", screenshot
Thank you for taking time for me
