Tethering on the nexus 7gsm - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got my nexus 7 and thought as using the device as big mobile wifi access point. But the options for tethering seems to be missing. Is there a way to enable this functionality? Or did miss something very obvious?

At phones with JB it is at settings>wireless>more,,,,>tethering.
If it isn't there you should try to download third party app to tether, just to be clear, you have the 3g version right?

Yes. See the screenshot

. The real question is if the functionality can be enabled in the stock image

See thread below for instructions on how to enable tethering,
You will need to be rooted

WiFi or Bluetooth Hotspot w/ no root required! FREE

"Enables WiFi or Bluetooth Hotspot on your Android phone without a Hotspot plan from your carrier. No rooting required! Just install and turn it on. Bluetooth mode works for all phones."
I know most custom ROMs come with this already but I figured it would be of interest to others anyway. Here's the link
Yes, this will be very useful for my friends who are scared of root

It does seem to work with Epic, let see what Sprint has to say about it...

Nexus 7 with Verizon?

Is there any way to link my Nexus with my Verizon account.....so I can run 4G?.... or is this strictly WiFi...

It's wifi only... no 4G hardware.
However, I see from your signature you have a Razr Maxx. You could tether through that, and probably for several hours at a time with such a big battery.

I went the mobile hotspot route. It was best for me because I can use it with other devices like my netbook if needed. It shares my data account with my other phones and no need for tethering anything.

[Q] NFC wont show in share list??

Well last week I installed smooth ROM 3.2 and noticed that NFC / android beam is not being shown in the share selections. I updated to the latest version of smooth ROM and still have the issue. I just installed aokp build 5 and still an issue.
Is this a issue with anyone else?!! Or is it my nexus 7 it self??

That's not how Beam works. You just navigate to whatever you're sharing, hold your Nexus to another NFC-enabled device, and your Nexus will ask you to tap the screen to transfer.

Ahh OK. I just swore I saw an option in the menu before that was a white icon as a tag and said NFC so when I didn't see it I thought I lost something .

Download Booster with root?

Anyone know of a mod or looked at a way to get download booster working correctly with root? I know we can enable through hidden menu, but it doesn't appear to do anything.
It seems to work for me. Ignore the speed, I have a bunch of stuff working right now, but the point remains.

Yeah still not working for me, is there any other settings? Certain file size? I tested with a 100 MB file. Thanks

Hmmm...

So was keeping network data on at all times in developer options there before or is that with marshmallow? Can't say I remember it being there but may have overlooked.

Well they claim it's too faster switch between data connections. It seems to increase download speeds a bit but that could be a placebo effect.
Are you on latest ota? It has a feature were it will connect and disconnect between networks for better speeds.
