Is there any way to cancel the download of the OTA Gingerbread update?
I'm on 2.3.340.MB10, Baseband BP_C_01.09.07P, rooted, stock ROM. I manually triggered the update check earlier (About phone→System updates). I got the update notice and selected “Later” (I want to wait until it's clear that I can keep or regain root).
Maybe an hour later, I noticed a download icon. The notification says Downloading updates and is currently at 18%. I went into Airplane mode to stall it. I tried rebooting and turning Airplane mode on and off, but the best I can do is stall the download and I can't stay in Airplane mode forever. (WiFi has been off the whole time.)
When I go back to System updates, I get “An update is currently downloaded. You will be notified when the download is complete.”
Can somebody please provide me one of the following:
1. How to cancel the download
2. How to indefinitely not install after allowing the download to complete
3. How to upgrade and keep or regain root
Thanks!
P.S.: Does anyone know why the download started when I picked the Remind me later option?
not sure about the first two questions, but as for the 3rd one, P3droid posted rooted OTA build with instructions in DX section of his forum. I don't think links are allowed, but shouldn't be too hard to find.
Oh and yeah, downloading the update automatically after it's found is default behavior for DX.
Can't cancel, but after download it will ask you if you want to install now or later. Choosing later is your only option, unfortunately you will be reminded every four hours if you want to install or not

Thanks, all!
Thanks, folks who posted.
tech_head's tip indeed froze the download, since I rarely connect to WiFi. (Why updates are “Social Applications,” I don't know.) (Interestingly, I had the hardest time actually getting into this menu. Took about 10 tries.)
metamorphousthe's tip saved me from being paranoid about the download completing.
meshdub's tip I haven't checked into yet, but that's promising.
Thanks again!
Just delete a system app and the update will fail when it tries to install and then you're all set
I renamed the blurupdater.apk to .bak I think that stops updates.

Hi there XDA people.
Normally content to lurk I thought I'd share how I fixed my upgrade issues and updated to the ww version of Jelly Bean ASUS sent out this morning.
I checked for a firmware update first thing this morning (as I've been obsessively doing regularly since the US update was released on the 22nd). To my joy I got that cheeky green arrow in the notifications window so left it to do it's thing. Had a shower, triggered it to update and went to get dressed. Whilst I was out of the room the upgrade failed and the tablet rebooted. My daughter was in the room so I have no idea what happened, my stupid fault for leaving it in the room with her, stupid me.
Long story short, I could no longer find the update via the firmware checker in settings. I tried a number of combinations of cold restarts and stopping various apps along with wiping their cache/data. These usually brought up the check for updates button but none would allow me to redownload the update. Sometimes I got a message saying "update available - check notifications", other times it didn't pick up the update and occasionally I just got a greyed out button. I'm sure this is ringing bells for some of you.
I reasoned that it had downloaded but for some reason something was stopping me download the update again. So using TotalCommander I searched around root directories for the "dlpkgfile" mentioned here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30516010 . Found it (I think in the Cache folder of "File System Root", but this has all changed since the upgrade) and renamed the dlpkgfile to dlpkgfile.bak.
I then temp unrooted with voodoo, cold booted for good luck and then checked for firmware updates. Lo and behold it kicked in straight away, downloaded and updated without a hitch.
Hope this helps some of the folk who have had similar issues getting the firmware update to kick in again after initial issues.

Finally got it running.
- cleared cache and data of cmclient with titanium backup.
- cleared cache and data of dmclient with titanium backup.
- Temp. unroot in Voodoo (without this update check failed).
- update button available again, hit it and voila a green download arrow.

I followed these instructions as I couldnt find the dlpkgfile either, unrooted with voodoo, cleared cache on the cm and dm client, it started downloading again, but to my disappointment it failed again during the restart. Had the logo of android on its back with a red triangle. I had to hold in power button to reboot.
What could be causing the update to fail? I havent disabled any system applications or messed with the build.prop file! :crying:
What I did was is this:
-Go to the the Apps section under settings
-Pick the "All" tab
-Then search for CMClient and DMClient and clear both data and cache of both of them
-Check for an update and Viola, green arrow shows up
I'm not sure if it works with root since mine is still unrooted so I don't have titanium backup installed yet.

Im in the same boat as you, I did the same steps but it fails with the red triangle... I even did a factory reset and still doesnt update, could it be becuase of the root?
Have tried everything (dm delete, cm delete, temp unroot, atp tweak uninstall, cold boot, regular boot, etc) after the download failed at 99% and still either can't find or get immediate download failed. No JB love here

Could anyone upload EmailWidket.apk from the WW version?
Found one but it says the check sum is not correct when trying to update...
During my update I also got the red triangle, so after a bit of investigation /cache/recovery/last_log pointed me to checksum error of Keyboard.apk. Restored it, fixed CM and DMClient but now it just says no update found. Any other suggestions?
My wife's nexus 7 won't update to 4.1.2. I wasn't paying attention to it, just noticed today she is still on 4.1.1. I keep going to update after stopping and clearing the Google services framework and I keep getting the red triangle. The error says assert failed... no app is listed, but it does say tegra 3 in the long error message.
More info:
Bone stock, never been rooted.
I have wiped cache.
I do NOT want to do a factory reset as she has stuff everywhere.
I am guessing I will have to load the update from the Google servers, but even then it might fail.
Of course I have done a Google search and got nothing useful other than to root and load a Rom. This is not mine and I am frequently gone, don't want to root it or anything as I am rarely home to fix any issues.
Could you please share the exact error here? It will be much easier to find a solution to the problem once we see what the error is.

Here is the messages during the update:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
Verifying current system...
Assert failed: apply_patch_check("Emmc:/dev/ block/ platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/lnx:5007360:089ca623419a5766da5b95b17352cffcbf1c610:5013504:c48f8e86c73fb2c2ba1794f5ec98e27c9e206ed5")
Installation aborted.
That error means that the update was attempting to patch the kernel and failed. That is very strange if the device has not been modded at all.
Has the bootloader been unlocked?
Sent from my Nexus 4
Ya positive its never been unlocked. And I know it is still locked as one of the screens I went into last night showed this.
After sleeping on it, I got to thinking I can probably just call Google for tech support. This is actually a legit issue I didn't cause by playing with it! For once. Lol
Okay, I called Google and they just told me to do what I did, which of course wasn't helpful. They said to do a factory reset, which didn't work. I tried to do the following update to 4.1.2, and that had the same error:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwlXQoAzrBE
I am still on 4.1.1 build JRO03S. I am trying to do this without root but clearly I can sideload files with adb. I read someone else had the same problem but the display was changed from 213. My bootloader is locked and everything, so no root, not sure how mine could have been changed.
Anyone know how to manually update to 4.1.2 without root? (other than the instrucitons above, I see there is more than one version of 4.1.1, so maybe I used the wrong update file when I manually tried).
Please help!!!
Thanks
Use wugs toolkit to unlock boot loader, then reflash your nexus with the update you want. Once that finishes simply relock the boot loader. I had your same problem. Just make sure to use wugs to backup as boot loader unlocks wipe the device.

Hi, I'm not sure where exactly to post this but being that it's a Q&A thread I thought it would be alright.
So this past week I was excited to hear that my Sprint Galaxy S4 (SPH-L720) was set to receive an OTA update. I've been waiting since I got the phone to be able to move my apps to my new 64gb sd card along with the lag being fixed. However, after several days (5 I think) I still haven't received an update, it's possible Sprint is still rolling it out to people. For the record my phone is unrooted and I haven't tinkered with any internal files apart from what I mention here and I'd like to keep my phone unrooted.
I tried using Samsung KIES to update the firmware, it had told me I had an update available and I went through the firmware upgrade process. I was disappointed to find that everything was exactly the same, no apps2SD, HDR video, or legibility settings. Later on I was a bit suspicious as to what Samsung Kies installed as now I have a VPN client app that I hadn't noticed before, a Samsung Knox "app" and 2 watchON apps under Application Manager/All.
Next I decided I would just find the OTA file somewhere here, which I did (bfeb51f4befc9f910dff1c6070f2d387aaac37de.update_SPH-L720_MDL_CSB_user_RP_to_MF9_CSB_user_RP.zip), and apply it from my SD card. When I did this I got several errors "Assert failed: Apply patch check", "tmp/sideload/package.zip" and something about "nfcnci.apk". The phone stops the update after a minute or so and reboots, leaving everything the same with no update applied.
Can someone help me out on what I can do to get my phone updated?
You can try going to application manager and wiping cache and data, then stop the app for "Google framework services" and then going to "Update Samsung update" in the system update menu to force the update. You may have to go through the steps several times but it did finally work for me after quite a few attempts. BTW, after doing so, you wont be able to download apps in the play store until you delete your Google acct and then sign back in.

Thanks, I tried this but no luck. I'm hoping that the OTA update won't have any problems installing since the manual update failed.

Make sure when you go to update it has the last date checked 1969, also be on Sprint network not wifi. I tried dozens of times on wifi as soon as I went on Sprint it took.
Still won't work for me

What update did kies offer? I have the vpn app preinstalled but no knox app. Are you sure it was for the right model because the zip file on sd card shouldnt fail like that if you are unrooted, stock.

Yes I'm sure I have the right file for the my phone. From what I read this update should have worked. But for some reason it didn't.
Before kies I was running MDL update and after it finished I was still running the MDL update
I'm getting the OTA update to Android 5.1, it downloads, asks me to restart, then fails with an error screen and the robot lying on its back. The phone then reboots itself into the 5.0.1 firmware.
The phone is rooted, is anyone else getting the same issue. Are there any logs I can look at to find out why?
Thansk
