Yet another 4.2 problem
Since the roll-out of "Play Music" in UK I have only been able to see "Apps & Music" in the Play Store.
I've cleared the data & cache for Play Store & Play Services as well as Google Services Framework, with no luck of getting Books & Movies back, they show up on the web just fine. I've also got the apps for them on my tablet and everything in them loads fine, just that it's gone from Play Store.
Anyone else having that issue?
p.s. Stock ROM, 4.2, rooted. Play Store version 3.9.17.

I had that issue too but when I first got my nexus. I had the screen density set to 160. Did u modify the density in any way?

Yes, I've set it to 160 or 170 first thing when I did fresh install.
Did you get this fixed? I'm on stock with density also on stock but I too can only see apps and music..

Sadly not, I hope the upcoming Play Store update will fix this.
I'm on 4.2 and changed my DPI. I noticed that play was no longer showing me books. Restoring DPI had no effect.
What fixed the problem was to delete my Google account, clear Play data, reboot, and add my account back.

So today I got my first warning about having more than 10 devices authorized to my Google play account. This is due to the fact that I'm constantly flashing ROMs and every time I re-download play music on a new ROM, it thinks it's a new device therefore attributing to the device count. The downside is, you can only remove 4 devices per year.. is there any way to stop Google play from reaccounting the same device over and over again? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Titanium Backup has a nice feature that lets you revert the device id to its previous value if you have backed up Settings. That way you can keep the same id across flashes.

I had no idea that this feature existed until now. I see the option in TB to view your Android ID, as well as create a new random ID or restore the ID from a backup. How exactly do I back it up?

Having tried both the global and EU varieties in the UK - just a heads up.
Neither has the sign-in for Sony Networks.
For me, this meant I was unable to access Videos Unlimited (the app from Playstore says incompatible when trying to download the Sony Account Manager) and unable to use a Sony account to sign into Socialife - again, I guess, because of the Account Manager incompatibility.
No biggies I guess - but just so you're aware.
Having reverted to the unbranded UK .434 all apps are back and accessible.
Guess I'll wait for the UK version to be released.
It happened with me too when I tried different firmware other than UK, I had to revert back to stock UK just to have Sony account manager back..
By the way the account manager in play store is for Tablets as seen in screenshots

Ah, so the account manager has to be installed via the ROM so to speak - interesting.
Is it related to the update though? I've had two handsets, one was returned under warranty, and both still show under google play when I log in. The returned one would not have been upgraded, but BOTH units show as incompatible, and I doubt the returned unit was updated. I bet if you were on 434 and tried to download it, you couldn't.

It is more likely they temporarily pulled it (possibly due to the voucher exploit??)
And note, the one in the play store is the one my phone takes me to when I try to say use video unlimited and it says I need account manager and then takes me to the play store.
I don't know what this came with but has anyone seen this random popup when opening app drawer or google voice - it'll also bring up Heroes of Dragon age from the play store randomly. How do I get rid of it? Thanks. Sorry, I don't know how to resize images.

they look more like ads... Do you remember which app you installed before they started appearing?
Try uninstalling that app... It may solve your issue...

that shouldn't be too hard..
If I am correct, the new apps are placed last in touchwiz... try going back in that order....
I will recommend making a list of apps using list my apps or similar app so that u can install the apps that were removed in the process here..
u can also check recently updated apps in my app section in Google play, that may also be doing that..
good luck!!

I've had this too a lot. It kills my battery.
I haven't had time to do much testing yet. I think it may be Google Photos. Do you use this and have auto backup enabled by any chance?
Or perhaps something related to the Gear VR software?

I had the same issue, I think it was Chrome causing it. I changed to Chrome Dev and it went away.
I'm pretty sure it has to do with music playing. It shows up if I play music through Google Play Music or other music apps. Google Photos shows up as Google Photos and doesn't seem to affect anything else except for Google Services.

Can confirm. After deactivating Chrome 52.0.2743.98 and exclusively using Chrome Dev 54.0.2840.6, Media Server no longer shows up in battery stats. Battery drainage turned normal, again.
Nevermind. Media Server still eating a bunch of battery. Must have something to do with media playback. Some s6 users reported that using AwesomePlayer solved the issue but that's no longer available in Marshmallow.
Nope, not media playback. I was getting massive drain from it for a week or two and hadn't played any kind of music or videos.
Hi All,
past for months randomly cell standyby and Android OS has been eating my battery.
However past 2 days using WakelockDetector, it shows the Google App waking up my phone many times (screens below) - anyone know a fix for this?? Ive only got 'Ok Google' enabled on the app and location services off - thats the only things i can think of??

He can use a Samsung system app disabler even without root, such as this one that I use:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hecorat.packagedisabler
Just disable the Google app package with this

Wow this looks useful - did you see a battery increase after using this? Don't want to pay really if its not worth it.

It's just a package disabler, and if you have a wakelock that consumes battery, disabling it will of course fix the problem. When the app is disabled, it's the same as uninstalled = it can't wake your device and no battery will be consumed
