My proximity sensor seems to have broken lately.
Is there any known app that will lock my screen, including notification bar, during call?
(I found one that locks screen, but leaves notification bar touchable, so my ear still manages to do a lot of mess in phone during call)
Or maybe someone has better idea to go around it?

I there any settings or something to adjust proximity sensor? I was trying to turn off screen covering sensor with thumb, but.. no effect.
Does it need any setting or my phone is faulty?
I noticed the same thing on my phone today.
The proximity sensor doesn't work if you've switched off the Automatically adjust backlight option in Settings>Sound & Display>Backlight. There doesn't seem to be any way around this as the proximity sensor doesn't have its own option.
Are you in a call? You need to be calling/receiving a call for it to work.
I agree, I think you need to be in a call for the proximity sensor to work properly.
For me it works fine. And i don´t hade automatic backlight on.

That's interesting because I can toggle my proximity sensor (whilst in a call) by toggling the automatic backlight. That option must be linked to something else as well.
Screen goes black
I do have the same behavior, when I make a call the phone's screen goes black automatically so if I need to press any key have to press send to get my screen back, then use the keypad, nonsense, is anyone having the same issue ?
for me, the proximity sensor doesn't work at all. I have the automatic backlight setting and yet it still doesn't work. any idea why?
SP300
I just found the solution, I have got the screen protector on "The Original HTC SP300" and is causing the screen to go blank when you do a phone call, If a remove it a little bit from the top left corner and make a call works as spec.
According to the Leo/Linux status wiki (http://htc-linux.org/wiki/index.php?title=Leo/Status) the Ambient Light Sensor is still not working properly.
That would explain why auto backlight adjustment does not work.
However, when in the phone screen the light sensor seems to work in that the screen goes dark when I cover the light sensor, as expected.
So I am curious as to the status of this regarding auto backlight specifically, does anyone have any more concrete info?
Perhaps there are separate light sensors? Or perhaps the light sensor only works in a limited fashion for the time being?
Just curious, not complaining
(P.S. the free "Battery Level" widget from the Market has worked well for me in the absence of auto backlight adjustment, in case others find it useful)
well there's a proximity sensor on the phone that comes into play while you are in an active call. it disables the back as you put the phone to your ear. you were simply simulating that action by covering the sensor with your hand.
Ah ok! Thats what the proximity sensor is. That is indeed marked as working on the status wiki, so that makes sense.
Thanks!
I've been getting a weird issue with my proximity sensor on my Note 4. It becomes... I suppose you could call it 'overzealous.' Even when not in a call, waving your finger over it will turn off the screen, no matter what screen it's on, home, lock, a game, Chrome, etc. And it's not just COVERING the sensor, it projects out to just over an inch away from the glass, so when I, say, go to pull down the notifications shade, the screen will turn off. It requires a restart to fix.
Anybody else had this particular issue?
You probably have some app what causing that because normally that sensor is only active during phone call. Possibly gesture control use that sensor too (when enabled). BTW proximity sensor in note 4 is set for 8 cm. It reads value above or below 8 cm but not exact distance.

Hello to everyone,
I have a Note 4 N910F with stock Android 5.0.1 and i have seen some issues with the ambient display.
With this feature the phone is supposed to turn its screen on every time a notification arrives. My phone turns its screen on for some notifications like messages and viber but for other applications the screen doesnt turn on. Allthough if i press the home screen the notification is there on the lock screen.
Its kinda annoying thing because thats one of the major functions about android lollipop.
I would like to mention that its not any settings problem because all the notifications for its application are enabled on my phone.
If anyone knows if this is normal or software issue or application issue it would be very helpful. Thank you.
First of all... How did you get ambient display to work?
I don't have the option although sammobile posted a video with a lollipop rom having this feature.
I dont know if i am right but by ambient display i mean that when a notification arrives it appears on the lock screen and the screen turns on.
For me for some apps the notification is on the lock screen and the screen doesnt wake but for other apps like messages and viber both notifications and screen wake is there.
for that reason i use an app that whenever there is a new notification the screen turns on.

Hey. Could you share your csc files so that I can enable amibent display on my device?? Your device must have it only because the country you're in.
That's not ambient display. This function is missing in the recent release of 5.0.1 touchwiz. Sammobile did show it being there in the sound and notification menu above the daydream option but seems Samsung left it out in the release. I'm thinking that the delay with release for other European countries is due to bugs and missing items, I'm not sure. The original delay was to get tw lollipop to work with the vr headset. At present its hit and miss with notifications lighting up the screen when they arrive. Some apps do it and some don't. Ambient display is where you pick up the phone and notifications are shown in black and white for quick glance as is the case for nexus 6 lollipop or cm12. I'm hoping the rollout to other countries well have solved the missing ambient display and the priority notification not having any time option like in blocking mode on kk.

One of the big issues I have found, mainly with CM based ROMS, is that the option to prevent accidental unlocking seems to be missing/unavailable.
I've been testing various apps and utilities that monitor the proximity sensor, but there is one big issue - they monitor for screen on, but it seems in CM12.1 that the monitoring app doesn't work or get a screen on signal when you're using a lockscreen.
So the solution is not to check for screen on, but check for screen unlock.
I have a TASKER profile set up as follows:
If screen unlocked and proximity sensor on, then turn the screen off.
Works really simply. cover the proximity sensor with a bit of cloth or something and test it - if you double-tap the screen on, or it wakes due to a notification, the screen still goes on. But any subsequent action, eg slide to unlock or click on a notification, triggers the screen unlock flag, and this then checks to see if the proximity sensor is covered, and if it does, it turns the screen off again.
I CAN POST SCREENSHOTS IF ANYONE WANTS FURTHER INFO - BUT I'D SUGGEST GIVING TASKER A GO AND A PLAY ANYWAY, IT'S A BRILLIANT APP.
