[Q] Nexus 7 Custom Rom On 4.2? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK, so I'm new to this forum, so hi!
I am running Paranoid Android on my nexus and was wondering whether there are any roms based on 4.2 since it is now available.
I dont want the stock rom though, as it doesn't have the customization features that i want.
So is there a PA or CM etc. rom on 4.2?

I hate to say it but 4.2 based PA has made me switch to CM 10.1 nightlies for my custom ROM. I really wish PA would have stayed CM based for 4.2+. PA around 2.54 was incredible but removing many features is not what I would consider an improvement IMO.

I am also looking for this combination. I was using Carbon 4.3 with PIE and HALO and may have to go back to it. I would rather stay on kitkat but that may not be an option. Please post here if you find a ROM with these built in. I'm not a big fan of LMT either.

Hi, Beanstalk Rom, I use at the moment, also have these features: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2091900 :good: And in my opinion it i the best 4.4 kitkat rom you can find at the moment. I have tried other roms but every time back to beanstalk because it has many features like Pie (Slimpie) , Halo, Xposed,Animations, Lockscreen, Multiwindow, Active Display etc. and it is very stable But there is only one main developer and you can't get nightlies every day. Furthermore, the rom doesn't support many devices, but Nexus 4 of course http://www.goo.im/devs/beanstalk
I use AK Kernel and Philz Touch Recovery but you can test every cm (caf) kernel you want
Here is a little review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZw2P-_t-zU
Or you can look in the Nexus 4 Android Development Thread for other roms like XjParaDroid. http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/development/rom-xjparadroid-unofficial-paranoid-t2602291 which have these features too.
Xenon HD has Pie and Halo

Paranoid Android is AOSP based, AOSP based don't work. Make sure you do a bit more reading since people have asked about that and Cyanogenmod and this question has basically been answered many times.

[Q] Vanilla AOSP

Hey XDA,
So I came from the Toro GNex and really enjoyed both Muzzy and Shiny's roms since they were both a very vanilla version of AOSP.
Does anyone know of any roms, specifically for Verizon, that are pretty close to vanilla AOSP? I would prefer stability over custom features that many devs have added to their versions of AOSP.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Since the G2 didn't come with an AOSP, people have mostly been using AOKP or CM to make their vanilla-ish ROMs. I haven't seen anything that's just plain AOSP.
Have you tried other ROMs?

I've been pretty swamped at work, so I haven't had a lot of time for crack flashing any AOSP roms. Currently I'm running debloated stock.
I didn't realize PA or CM were close to vanilla AOSP, do you recommend giving them a shot/are they stable at this point?

So I'm on CM11 using the nightly build from 1/31. You can try the latest nightly, but there' have been reported issues. I'm not familiar with them though. There's a lot of talk on the G+ CM community. I'd join that anyway.
Whatever you do, do a complete backup so you can just revert back if something isn't to your liking.

I'm on PA 4.0 Beta 6 and I really like it. There is a new 4.1 version out that I think is good, but it took out some of the customization (so it's probably worth trying both to see which you like). PA is vanilla I think...I've ran it for so long I don't have a reference point any more haha. I came from a Toro GNex on PA 3.99.

Also came from toro Gnex and used vanir there. Now I use PA.:good:
For the record, ParanoidAndroid is normally FAR from pure vanilla AOSP, it's only vanilla-ish now because the main features(hybrid engine, Hover(the Halo replacement), per-app dpi, etc.) are not finished yet. That being said, stability is never really an issue(all ROMs have issues at the moment, at least until the new 4.4 kernel sources can be implemented). I factory flashed my manta last weekend, and I forgot how bare pure AOSP really is. Most custom features add to the experience, and if you don't like them you can just turn them off. :good:
Still, the G2 is lacking a true AOSP ROM. Again, PA doesn't count because eventually it will re-add all the features in a few months time. There's nothing like Purity or RastaKat for the G2. I was contemplating learning how to port Purity over to the G2 earlier, seeing as how Purity has a hammerhead version. I just don't have the time at the moment.

[Q] CM based rom with PIE

Hi guys, long time loyal PA user and tired of waiting for them to merge ThemeManager, want to switch to any CM based rom which has PIE functionality and properly updated.
Is there any such ROM out there? Original CM will not support PIE ever, so anyone ported PA PIE to CM ?
you can try nexus 5 experience that is cm based and have slim pie , carbon but i don't know if it is cm based , and the developer of crdroid is working on a port of PIE from cm10.2 for his rom

Carbon does have PIE, but it's AOSP.
actually looking for a cm based rom because of theme manager, PA has no indication of including theme support.
Also if pie is there then it will be better, else might have to flash proper cm nightly

have you tried the app?, its pretty good

Beanstalk is amazing, and has Pie, Halo, multiwindow, immersive mode, Xposed baked in, and about every other feature you can imagine... It is CM based as well... Combine it with Hells-Core kernel and PA Gapps and it is rock solid, actually even with the stock kernel it is very good. I suggest it very highly.
You won't see many updates though, maybe 4-8 per year on average, this ROM is rock solid and extremely feature packed, when updates to come out they just work though, many ROMs basically use updates like a beta program, not Beanstalk. I don't know if it has the new or old theme manager, I don't use themes so I can't tell you... but it does have a theme manager.
Thanks for the suggestions guys, just clean CM latest and it's quite good till now, I feel there is slight performance hit from PA but I will take that. CM has expanded desktop so no need of PIE any more. Was tired of PA, they still haven't managed to incorporate hybrid let alone theme manager.

[Q] Is there any vanilla KitKat 4.4.4 roms?

Is there any vanilla clean no features pure AOSP Roms for the g2 Verizon? I am interested in one. If not is there anyone that can build a Rom. I'm willing to donate for a pure AOSP Rom.

Yes I came from a nexus device and just loved rastakat vanilla builds. Perfect the way I like it. I tried to port myself the hammerhead AOSP Rom but it get bootloop. Don't know how to fix.

Does Viper4Audio work with PA? Its kind of a hit or miss with the AOSP ROMs, so far it only works with CM after flashing a few of them.

I believe it did a while ago. However the main dev is on hiatus and the sources have changed some with the new guy. But, it may still work. Make a backup and give it a try.
