CIFS for 4.2? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hoping for CIFS modules compiled for 4.2...
I have these: cifs module for 3.1.10-g52027f9
from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781411
but after flashing the 4.2 zip, Mount Manager won't load them. MM is getting root permissions.
Thanks!

Same thing happening to me. No idea how to write modules. Need someone smarter than me to do this.

Me too
Same thing here! Because of that, "Mount Manager" stopped working. Is there any alternative to that? I use "mount manager" to watch some movies located on my network NAS

Do you have cifs.ko in /system/lib/modules ?
If so, open CifsManager, go to settings and tick the box Load cifs module. Make sure the path to cifs.ko is correct. Close and reopen CifsManager.
You should then be able to mount shares.

[Q] cifs kernel module?

Is it possible for someone with Linux experience to compile a cifs kernel module for use with the stock 4.0.3 kernel? I would like to be able to mount smb shares and know nothing of Linux compilation ...obviously I am rooted......and also, why doesn't a business class device come with cifs support? Lenovo...I'm looking at you....
Thanks to anyone who may help our with insight on this issue.

Here it is. Compiled from the official Lenovo ICS sources. Needed to setup my build system anyway.
Edit:
If it doesn't work please post your precise kernel-version (setting->info) with all the characters and numbers and everything.
(exec format error)
I tried the file you made, placed it in the /system/lib/modules directory...Insmod /system/lib/modules/cifs.ko and got the (exec format error) ...am I doing something wrong...and also, thank you so much for helping! Awesome work

Next try. If it doesn't work this time please post the last lines of dmesg
yes...but
Yes! the new module loads wonderfully ....now as for getting cifs manager to work,I keep getting "mount: no such file or directory" ...and yes I have the latest busybox, and yes I made the mount point rw...strange....also I noticed that other kernel modules have the cifs.ko and a md4.ko...could the problem lie in not having a md4.ko? Also, you are awesome at this, thank you so much for your continued help!
What I'm trying to accomplish
I'm trying to get the Cifs Manager application to function on my thinkpad tablet. I thought it might help to give out that information so you can see where I'm heading with all of this. Thanks again

A logcat might tell you whats wrong. Try to start searching there, most times its something simple.
Edit: You might be right, a md4.ko seems to be necessary. Will build it as soon as i find out what md4 exactly is.
Edit2: And here it is. Its a crypto module.
awesome!!
That did the trick, cifs manager works great now!! Thank you so much!

Sure, first download the cifs manager from the play store. (none of this works of you don't have root). then download the two files (in one zip file,2 posts up) and place the two files in the system/lib/modules/ directory. now, open the cifs manager app and go to settings. you need to check the "use insmod" and then in the option below that you need to put /system/lib/modules/cifs.ko:/system/lib/modules/md4.ko that whole thing, no spaces, the : will make it run the second command which is a required modules for the cifs one to work.
good luck

[Q] CWM 10 and Cifs

I've flashed my TPT with Koshu's CM10.
As I can not mount my NAS I've replaced the cifs.ko and the md_4 file. But mount is not possible.
Does the CM10 support cifs? And when the answer is yes, is the a howto?
I have searched the www and XDA for the TPT and Cifs-Managers, but no solution works.
Any hints?
I have the exact same problem! I'd really like to be able to use Cifs on my Thinkpad Tablet.
I tried that module:
cifs and md4 module
and another one that I found on the thinkpadtabletforum. (Unfortunately, I cannot post that link since I have under 10 posts.)
When looking deeper into CifsManager or MountManager, it seems that only the md4 module of the link I posted is mounted. The cifs.ko file never appears to be mounted. Anyone can help?
Thanks!

[Q] CIFS on Cyanogenmod 10.1 (and Android 4.2.1 in general)

CIFS was supported just fine in Cyanogenmod 10. Since I updated to the 10.1 version, mounting doesn't work properly: While CIFSmanager actually mounts a network folder, once I visit the folder with a file-manager the folder looks empty. What is more curious is that when I use FX file manager, it doesn't just show the folder as empty, but shows an "access is denied" message in it. I tried messing with the permissions both on Android and the shared folder on the PC, but no luck so far. Is this a common problem with all 4.2.1 roms even with CIFS support or a CM10.1 problem? I don't know what to assume.
Yes 4.2 cifs does not work.
I have gotten around this for video using the Dice player which has it built in. Also Es file explorer has its own as well.
BSW Nexus,7
in terminal emulator it works, but in not app
Since 2 days i tried to mount my WD live book with "Mount Manager" and CifsManager" in andorid 4.2.1. Both show that it is mounted but all apps don't see any file. So i searched for a shell command and the surprise, when i am mounting by "busybox mount ..." in "Terminal emulator it works fine and i see all folders in the terminal. But in no app, i can cry . Please, if anybody has an solution help !!!
Thxs a lot!
I found an interesting thread which describes why and how!

Update
Hey people, there's some update on this. Check this out! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2106480
EDIT: While the above changes were merged in CyanogenMod 10.1 nightlies, fixing the problem on my Nexus 7, the latest nightly reverted the change because it broke some compatibilities So back to the problem again for now...

[Q] Nfs, Cifs, module kernel for 4.4.2?

Hello,
I'm looking for these modules nfs, and cifs.
I'm in stock 4.4.2 (KOT49H) factory rooted. I want to mount my nas synology in /sdcard/synology
As i see, i'm unable to find any answer about cifs and nfs module for Nexus 4. Some of you have create a custom kernel that include these modules.
I'm familiar with "everytime flash", everytime flashin recovery to the last TWRP or CWM, baseband, etc.....
So How i can't find these module in any rom or kernel that i've tested? what is so hard? no one think about this?
My question is : Is that possible to "put" these module and use them in 4.4.2?
Forum search just lead me to one post about it,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2021437
Just one kernel, only one and it's for 4.2.2. Sadly i try it and nothing change : insmod cifs.ko / nfs.ko --> can't open......
Help, i just want to mount my nas, (sure i already setup my Nas to have a nfs directory for my nexus)
even my try with mount manager failed.
Need help
Also looking for a CIFS (or NFS) module on a 4.2.2 rom.
I believe that ak kernel in original development has it
