I'm totally hooked on using CIFS on my local network at home ...
Anyone working on even a stock kernel replacement with CIFS built in?
Thanks!

Has anyone found a way to install openVPN on the aria (and get it working)? I have looked around but haven't found anything that I can get working.

I can confirm that it is working perfectly on the CM6-RC0 FroYo ROM using the "OpenVPN Settings" app from the market. I've not been able to get it installed much less working on any of the Liberated ROMs. CM6 has kernel support for openvpn and I'm wondering if that's what we need for Liberated, a modified kernel that supports openvpn.
Hey Attn1 any ideas? I bow (humbley) to the Aria ROM master...

Yep... Got it working... I was going to wait for an official Froyo ROM, but I decided to flash CM6. I also had to install OpenVPN settings to get it to install my certificates, etc. Works great! And all this was after my work tech support guy told me it wasn't possible to do VPN from my phone and that the servers would immediately kick it off the network.
Also, as a side note. CM6 is pretty cool! I don't know why I was waiting.
As far as getting it to work on 2.1 (I am a noob but did a lot of research). You need a the tun.ko driver and the OpenVPN bianary. I found the tun.ko for the aria, but couldn't get it to push through adb. I kept getting a "not enough memory" error. I've never been able to push to the system folder (yes I had root) with adb on the stock rom. Not sure why. CM6 solves that problem!
Also, installed TightVNC on my home laptop and AndroindVNC viewer on my phone (both free) and now I have remote desktop!
I wonder if I will get in Trouble for installing it on my work computer???

Can you share what tun.ko you tried for 2.1? And you can push it when in recovery mode and mount system partition.
I was able to set up OpenVPN on Cyanogenmod but like liberated better.
Thanks.
I was trying to work out CIFSManager for my HD2, following these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7694884#post7694884
Everything works fine and i was able to mount my drives and all, but then I couldn't read my chinese characters.
The Q&A suggested the use of nls_utf8.ko, but then i've tried to load (using insmod in gscript) many different nls_utf8.ko modules found online and non of them worked...
any help would be appreciated =)
I have problem too. my workaround is just temporary copy and rename the files your need =P
have problem too!
Bump.

failed to mount anything (kernel lack of cifs support), so no way to even mount
if you managed how to do it - please share
thanks in advance
Edit:
I just mounted samba share via wifi on MCCM SE v3.3 + hastarin 8.4 kernel using cifsmanager. RockPlayer plays movie but there are no str subtitles. But it is a progress .
I search for a WiFi Tethering App that's running with win 7.
Or is there anybody who has got an apk file from the WiFi Tethering App from HTC ?
Had no luck getting this working until I used Jacob's CM6 ROM; seems it needs Kernel and ROM support for it to work.
Mhh on Wildpuzzle Rom it works to but there i can't get any kernel working(no overclocked kernel) everytime it freeze at bootscreen
and i don't want so miss an overclocked Kernel
Tried any of these?

Currently looking for a kernel that will work with Cyanogenmod-6 modified rom NoNameFroyo that will allow the swap to work when enabled. Not sure if it is actually working or not, but it doesnt seem to be reporting in anything ive tried.
Any help?
Seems it's just the setting that doesn't work. Swapper2 enabled it just fine.

I recently rooted my Nexus 7 (2012) running JSS15Q 3.4.0-g6537a16.
I am trying to use CIFS manager but I am missing /system/lib/modules/cifs.ko.
I understand this is probably not in the stock ROM so can someone kindly advise of my options?
Has anyone built a CIFS module for this kernel/stock ROM?
Many thanks in advance
It's already built into the kernel (stock) something is causing it to break. No one is really working on this much to my dismay. I have tons of data I wish to access and no real means to do so.
Thanks for reply... Any other options?
