Hello,
This is a official Indian Moto G discussion thread. It is expected to be launched in early January 2014.
I will update the thread as we get more information.
Please keep this thread clean and use if for Moto G specific stuff only. Please avoid OT discussion.
I was thinking about getting this phone to replace my old and tired Galaxy Y.
I wonder what the price will be...
Somewhere around 11-12K maybe?

16 GB Moto G costs 199 $ in US i.e. Rs 12500 approx. So it will not be less than Rs 15000 here I'm planning to get one from US
Looking at the Nexus 5 pricing and as they will have to include headphones in the box as per Indian law, I think 16gb will cost around 18k. I hope Motorola prices it close to 15k.
Moto G 8GB is available for Rs.15,990 and 16GB for Rs.17,990 at eBay India including all taxes and import duties. It was imported from US.

But how about warranty? I doubt whether motorola will accept US phones for warranty in India.
Also, they have mentioned dual sim model. When will this be launched?

People who import products from US/UK often won't care about warranty which we won't surely get. But the seller who is selling US Moto G 8GB and 16GB on eBay India is saying he is giving one year warranty and 10 day replacement guarantee. ALWAYS enquire the seller before buying on eBay.
But at the moment its the cheapest option available instead of importing manually for who can't wait for the official launch of Moto G in India.
16 - 17K
Right now, Moto G costs 200USD [16GB version]
Convert that to INR = Around 12,000 Rs
+ Around 30% Tax = 16,500 - 17,000 Rs

Where did you get that 30% tax figure from?
It's 6%... and there are some other charges too. But OEMs import in bulk.. it is subsidized.
It'll effectively be around 10-15% tops
prices of smartphones in india are almost same as in UK, where 16gb versions costs about 16K (inr), so adding a charger+Dual Sim+Headphones may increase price upto 2K so i think 16-18K is a good guess for 16gb version in india. Also if they launch single sim version without charger and headphones, it would be a better option
If they do price it at 16-18K then I don't think its going to sell a lot. The Micromax canvas 4 is a good deal at around 16K. And there are a ton of other phones cheaper than that with better specs.
Altough the Moto G will get KitKat faster and will be the one supported by the community more.

Should be around 15k. Am looking forward for getting my hands on the 16gigs variant too as soon as it lands here. Hoping that Moto will be providing warranty here.

had Motorola not promised KitKat for Moto G, it wud be senseless to buy it over Canvas 4 or Canvas Turbo or other Sino-Indian phones.

nope.. 16.5k for single-SIM 16 GB, without charger & headphones.
Here's how I calculated-
Nexus 5 : Moto G
= $349 : $199
= Rs 28999 : Rs 16535
(come on! Congress won't lower the taxes)
And of course warranty will be there because it'll be "officially launched" like Nexus 5 (not like Nexus 4).
P.S.- I think, we would get more of dual-SIM ones (expectedly costing Rs 1.5k more) before single-SIM ones become readily available.
By then if Nexus 4 drops to 20k, it wud be a more sensible buy than Moto G.

but that was about ancient feature phones (non-android RAZR, ROKR, etc.)
Despite Qualcomm chipset & Gorilla Glass 3, Moto G is priced quite low, which means all other components are cheap and as bad as LG's.
So, in terms of durability Nexus 4 should be as good as Moto G.
Had Moto G been costlier, we could have considered it to be more durable than Nexus 4, but not now.
Anyway.. if Nexus 4 sticks to 21.5k and Moto G costs no more than 16.5k, then of course Moto G will be the winner.

I'd be heart-broken if it goes on sale at anything above 15,000. Really waiting desperately for this to launch in India

Technically, tax isn't applied on imports! Its only the shipping charge and customs levied (if a relative sends you the device, then no customs). So, basically it should be 14-15K max.
30% tax? LOL!
Really wanted to pick up a Moto X during the $150 promo but didn't want to give up the wireless charging and screen size coming from my DNA. However with the Maxx just $50 more (versus the $400 32GB Moto X) and including those missing things, as well as just getting Kit Kat, this is a great price and very tempting.
Could you share the link? I am looking for Off contract version too.

On the lines of Moto G Indian Thread, i am creating the Moto X Indian Thread.
Why?
Because 'Moto X to launch in India in Next Few Weeks'

I guess it would be Flipkart again who would bring it to us first.
Any guesses on its price?
I think it could be somewhere between 25k-28k
Edit #1 : Launch day offer, get Rs. 1000 off on opting 6 months emi
70% off on cases

Edit #3 : 5 colors priced at Rs. 23999 and wood black versions priced at Rs. 25999 https://twitter.com/Flipkart/status/445860539420274689
Another tweet saying, Moto X will have a daytime launch, tomorrow.
Flipkart is selling only 16 GB version, 32 GB hasn't been planned.
The Black & White colors would be in stock at launch, other colors would be on pre-orders delivered by 2nd week of April.
Wood back would have walnut and teak finish.

Remember here that the Moto G was meant to be cheap... Moto X is supposed to be a flagship device... It might be around 30K atleast... But it has brilliant features! You will fall in love with active display...The touchless control is brilliantly accurate for our "indian" accents as well... i can vouch for that!

It doesn't have the specs to be a 30k phone and Motorola is now on a market grabbing state, so they know now keeping a good value of the phone can help them make a presence in Indian Market. And actually 20k is more than enough for that phone. Why someone would by a Moto X if they can buy a Nexus 5 with more specs at 30K.
Think as a businessman bro.

Its not all about business bro... and not all buy phones for specs! If you havent used a Moto X you shouldn't comment on its performance! Nexus 5 is awesome for tech geeks and nerds like us but Moto X is the iPhone of Android(PS that is a compliment) I have a Droid Maxx and its the BEST both in terms of speed and battery and performance.. But it will definitely be a little costly around 28K atleast... Its CPU was personally designed by motorola with two added cores for better performance for the touchless control..

Not at all saying that you are wrong, have used Moto X just for an hour, it feels a lot better in hand and build quality is just amazing but actually Motorola is on a more sales mind atm and grabbing the marking where samsung and micromax cheap phones are ruling, they have to do that else they won't survive. No offense I am impressed with Motorola on Moto X and Moto G.

Lets just wait and watch!
Im using a dev ed moto x 32gb and im very happy with it. Touchless controls are amazing so with active notifications. Sold my N5 and got this badboy.
Moto G 8GB unlocked is available @ 179$ = Rs. 11098 (1 $ = Rs. 62) which we get for Rs. 12500.
So Tax/Duties come out to be Rs. 1402 i.e. 11.22%
Moto G 16GB unlocked is available @ 199$ = Rs. 12338 (1 $ = Rs. 62) which we get for Rs. 14000.
So Tax/Duties come out to be Rs. 1662 i.e. 11.87%
Now if we average out the Tax/Duties as 11.5%, so here's the calculation for Moto X.
Moto X 16GB unlocked is available @ 399$ = Rs. 24738 (1 $ = Rs. 62), Tax/Duties Rs. 2937 Rs. i.e. 11.5%, Total Rs. 27675
Moto X 32GB unlocked is available @ 199$ = Rs. 12338 (1 $ = Rs. 62), Tax/Duties Rs. 3305 Rs. i.e. 11.5%, Total Rs. 31143
Assuming we won't be getting the Moto Maker customisation which is included in the Moto X prices, we can deduct around 1K from the above total.
So my guess is Moto X 16 GB would be between 26-27K and 32 GB between 30-32K
Anything below this would be more awesome.

I got my MOTO X from US and let me describe it in one word that it is awesome. In real sense it is a smart phone.
It has changed the way i use the smartphone. there is absolutely no lag.
The active display is superb.
The Moto Assist works flawlessly.
Though there is a very strong negative feedback for the camera but still i like it a lot.
All I can say is that you need to use it to realise its potential.
Waiting for more details

Great price
Hi,
I've an offer for a new Moto X (black, 16 GB memory) for a stipulated price about 180€ (200$). What do you think about the device today? Does it make sense to buy the Moto X for this price today? I like really the size of the phone and can't find another one with good hardware specifications on the market as the Moto X has. Can you told me something about the performance with Lollipop, the camera and the battery life? Will the Moto X get the new Android M, too?
I'm looking forward to your replies.
Cheers!

my opinion is $200 is a little high, you did not mention what model, i bought a new xt1053 developers edition 32gb on ebay about 6 or 8 months ago for $199 ant its retail gsm unlocked with the ability to unlock the bootloader, we have 4 xt1058 att's here and all updated to lollipop and so far the only issues with one device is some lost contacts after the ota, not to much of a deference in battery life, there is a noticeable difference in performance due to running on art (i would say), amazon has the gsm unlocked which im sure is the xt1058 black for $115 and white for $118, just put this (Motorola Moto X - 16GB, Unlocked Phone) in amazon search bar
Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot to say that I'm from Germany and only the XT1052 is available here. Of course the device is unlocked. The actually price is about 240€ and more (amazon, ebay and so one) here in Germany. So I think that my 180€ offer should be a good deal.

I just think that the price might be okay Would you buy the device one again for this price? Or would you prefer another one?! Maybe the Moto G 3rd Gen. The price for this one is about 230€*for the 16GB model with 2 GB RAM (without MotoMaker).
Hi.
Well I've just bought one. I picked up a very good condition one off eBay this week for £87. I got it yesterday. I have to say I'm impressed with the build and form factor.
I was using a Nexus S for about 3 years and decided that it was time for an upgrade, event though I loved that phone to bits.
I wanted to spend max £100 and buy something I could flash a ROM on, so I went for a Samsung S3. It's a nice phone but just hate the home button with a vengeance and the capacitive buttons. They make the phone way too big. I guess I just hate big phone. They just don't do anything for me. It's also too slippy with its all plastic design.
So I decided I needed a smaller phone with no hardware buttons and the Moto X seemed like the perfect fit. After two days using it I have to say it's a lovely device. Build quality is top notch and the size is just perfect for one handed use. And because it's pretty much stock Android and not Touchwiz I'm not in the mood to flash a ROM at all. I'm more than happy with the software at the moment. I can always flash a ROM at a later date.
So yes go for it!

I would buy it, its the most powerfull and feature packed phone in this price and screen size range.
For me, the only alternative is the Samsung Galaxy Alpha.
The only thing you have to make shure is, if 16 GB storage is enough for your needs.
greetings
Let me tell you the story of Moto X 2nd Gen here in India. It's available for INR 30000 which is about 460 USD. And if you get your screen broken (which magically is turning into a very frequent phenomenon) your costs from the Moto Service Centre comes around INR 20000 which is 311 USD approx. So yeah , no one's gonna buy it in their right mind. Specs and improvements don't mean anything if the post sale services are that much of a pain.
Holding the whole Galaxy in my hand.
brother every phone has its merits and demerits, but what we want is important, like u i couldn't find a piece with this specs and the size like moto x, so think about it:good:
I probably would. I got the moto x gen 1 when it came out an I'm still struggling to find any alternative. Everything else is too big. Also I don't really feel like I need an upgrade because I'm satisfied with everything. Performance isn't the fastest but its perfectly find and doesn't lag. The form factor is the best thing. The only alternative I have found is sony z3c but I will only get that if something happens to this. Since its more expensive and it has a glass back which could break. I was really hoping 2015 moto x would have a smaller option but sadly they just went bigger
I got my xt1092 16gb for $480 australian from eBay. But a bit disappointed on design as not very flexible, eg: no SD card slot and too little memory not sure why its this way but anyhow Motorola phones are no longer developed by Motorola engineers but LeNovo engineers... So I don't know is that means as much to you as much as it means for me.
I had a lot of fun with my Razor previously but as it seems, there is no Cyanogen alternative for us on Moto X vitara...
I can sell you mine if you want its in perfect condition for 100€ .

I read bunch of articles stating that although Lenovo owns Motorola, it doesn't interfere with the design and engineering aspects of manufacturing the Moto devices. Theyre probably just concerned with their bottom line. I purchased my Moto X just a month ago for about 120$ new 16gigs, I was hesitant at first considering the old specs compared to what is out there but I couldn't resist the design, size and the 2years of developments to still make it run superbly.

Amazing phone man and I have owned them all. So impressed by the speed and how fluent it is, but if I was buying one again, I would make sure it's on kit kat, so I could flash a lollipop version that didn't have the bootloader updated because lots of people with issues on lollipop.
I have no idea why you should pay twice more for Chinese quality). Buy US models, which working well in EU for $100 and be happy like me Nothing compares to the phone yet

You and I think alike.. Me too think only solid phone in this form factor is z3c.. But the camera review is not that great.. They just bumped the specs.. I'm having a hard time finding a great phone under 5inch size.. Any ideas? Really disappointed with OPO2! ARE THEY NOT THINKING ABOUT PEOPLE WHO HAVE SMALL HANDS AND PREFER SMALLER DEVICES? I'll be waiting for the new Moto X Pure Edition.
I have been told by Motorola support that it WILL be bootloader unlocked for Verizon.
Seems like there is no other good option Although I was playing with a samsung galaxy s6 the other day, both edge and regular.. they're actually not that bad! solid build quality and not thaat much bigger than our moto x. Just a little bigger but still not as wide as 2014 moto x or other phones. I might consider it but its soo expensive..
I have a Note 4 and would have got the Note 5 if had an sd slot, but it apparently does not. The front facing speakers, sd slot and 64GB internal storage for $500 to $550 for a Moto X Pure seems too good to pass up
The only concern but a biggy is battery life. I will buy from Best Buy and then return it if battery life is an issue. Heck, even if the Note 5 had an sd slot I would consider the Moto X Pure due to price and features
I'm getting the style also but with an SD slot, 16gb is all I need. I only use around 4gb for apps now. If battery is your thing, get the moto x with a 3600 mah battery, and 5.5 1080p. They should of made the 3600 mah standard for both.
Well, what leaked so far for the upcoming Moto X 2016 with the lack of stereo speakers left me quite cold...
There are some Moto X Style (same as the Pure Edition, but for Europe) on sale at expansys.ca for $440 CAN (or $349 US). It's said to be compatible with the major Canadian carriers for LTE and 3G. It's very tempting to upgrade my Idol 3 with this (my Idol is still sold $360 CAN over here)..

[edit] Looks like it's backordered for 3-4 weeks...And now $454 CAN...
Anyone ever used Expansys?
Looks like Expansys-USA provides a 6-month warranty for this Moto X Style, with an additional 12-month that can be purchased for $50 CAN.
Thanks.
