[Q] need help re rooting on JB OTA - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have recently updated to the new jb ota (which i Iove I might add) but I'm having problems re rooting. Stupid as I am, I never temporarily unrooted with root keeper. So I updated and of coarse lost root. I am having the worst trouble rerooting. I downloaded an updated version of the su and superuser.apk and tried to replace them in motofail and it didn't work still. It just says "daemon not running. Starting it now" then the cmd promt does nothing. I even tried removing the su in system bin and tried tried to remove superuser.apk and it didn't work. I don't have too much experience using adb so if there's another way to solve this it would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, I'm so stuck! Thanks for your responses

If I remember correctly, if you are getting the "'com.motorola.bug2go' is unknown" part, it means you need to do a wipe (both data and cache) in recovery, and try again. That fixed it for me after I flashed. You might also need an updated version of moto2fail for JB: www dot droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/5151-root-for-droid-razr-m/
However, not sure on the other failure (INSTALL_FAILED_UID_CHANGED).

I did a factory reset twice and it still won't work. It completes the exploit successfully and gives me super user but no root when trying to verify with root checker ;(
EDIT
got it to work. I was having issues with bug report.

I'm having the exact same problem. What exactly did you do to get it to work? I was rooted, then "unrooted" to get the OTA Jellybean update. Now I can't root.
Any help is appreciated.

yeah I cant get it to work .... Bugreport just wont happen ... Thinking about going back to ICS and taking the OTA after I unroot.
Weirdly enough it did succesfully complete the motofail2 but no root was acquired.
Are you guys mounting the phone as MTP? or you do get the option to mount as mass storage?
Also I am having trouble booting into recovery:
after I get the android with the open chest image with the "!", nothing happens, and no options are displayed, therefore I cant clean the cache.

How I got mine working again was replacing the su and superuser.apk files in the exploit and running the script again. Except this time, its really hard to get the bug report to work. Took me 6 tries. U need to wait for a second or third vibrate during this process. If ur phone vibrates once it will not work. As for khalilcr, I'm having the issue with recovery as well. Pressing both up and down in recovery won't work but it does if you wait like 10 seconds then try again. Try that and see if it works. Oh also I was mounted as MTP and it worked. Don't have the mass storage option available anymore.

I am downloading the updates for my RAZR M to JB right now, but trying to keep root...should I install rootkeeper or not? (By "downloading" I mean I am manually running it with the ZIP files). I have root on 4.0.4 but I am unsure of whether I should be keeping root with a rootkeeper, or trying to root it freshly once the update to JB finishes....clarification, please?

Sooo, sorry if I ask a dumb question here, but what did you replace the su and superuser.apk files with??
I also can't get into recovery...same situation. Up/down arrow and Power gets me the menu, but if I don't select "Recovery" or something real fast it will boot normally on its own. If I do manage to select Recovery, I get the red triangle out of the droid's chest image.
Any further help is much appreciated!

http://androidsu.com/superuser/ go there and download the 3.1.3 arm signed zip. They have the 2 replacement files then open up the exploit and simply replace them.

Either or will do but I did hear root keeper works but when I did it I forgot to temporarily unroot lol so try it out.

Ok, so, because bricking my phone would be disastrous, I refresh all the system apps, run the rootkeeper, run the manual update, then I should be good?

You da man! That worked. Oddly enough, I had to re-check the USB Debugging box because it somehow manage to uncheck itself. And you're right, the vol-up/power for the bug report is hard to get. For those reading this, you'll know the bug report works when you get 3 really short but fast vibrations. I had to volume down all the way a couple times.
Thanks again!

Hey Lostpilot, could you give a review of the steroids you took in rooting? Namely, the ICS you came from, were you root from there? Also, (noob question, sorry) when the whole process is finished, is any data lost? Sorry for being so noobish, I'm brand new to Android
Sent from my XT907 using xda app-developers app

Glad it worked out for ya and yes tanko that should work just fine. If not, u can always re run the exploit script and do it that way.
Sent from my XT907 using xda premium

Ummm, yeah...steroids? Not sure what you're asking! But, I was on the OTA Jellybean ROM. I was on ICS, but rooted it. Then had to un-root it to get the OTA JB ROM to work. After that, I couldn't get it to re-root. Because I did a factory reset, I lost all my apps, but I backed everything up in Titanium Backup before I started. Also did an export of my contacts to a vCard on my SD card.
Basically, I am starting over in configuring this thing...but at least I'm rooted.

Re run the batch and see if you are getting this issue com.motorola.bug2go is unknown or UID failed. If so, perform a factory reset and follow my steps above about replacing the su and superuser.apk. you do not have to remove superuser in order for this to work because it should over write it. Worked for me. But if it doesn't work and you still want it removed u cant. It won't work in root explorer or anything like that. The only way I found to do it was by freezing it to my knowledge unless u RSD back to ICS and re flash jb.. but this method SHOULD work for you just fine. Let me know if your getting those errors

Ok, got it to work ...
Here is what I did:
Since I could not get into recovery I erased data from within the os
did not complete setup
executed motofail2go with updated files
after a few tries I finally got the second vibration
after regaining root I unrooted using supersu
tried to get into recovery to erase cashe and data but nothing so I erased data from within the os one more time
after such I finnaly got into recovery after going crazy and pressing volume up and dows for about 30 times while in the android with the ! on his chest
Phone is much better now
Hope this helps someone

Thanks for your help bud that did the trick I guess I assent holding the keys to get bug report long enough to get second vibrate and yea it did overwrite other super user apk with the new one I placed.

[Q] needs alittle help with root

So I picked up an ATT Atrix 4g the other day and I love it! Last cell's were a BlackBerry and before that an iPhone. Android OS blows those away. So I am the tinkering type and want to root and use custom ROM (greyblur). Currently I am upto date (version 4.1.83). From what I read here, I need to flash back to 1.26 via this guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991072). Installed RSDlite, passworded file, removed sim card, memory card, booted with RSD support, opened RSDlite, selected file (extracted to c:\GladRoot...also tried directly into c, Start. Created the image, it rebooted my atrix, and then the Status threw this message:
"Failed flashing process. failed flashing process. Phone did not re-enumerate after RAM-downloader was sent. (0x703E); phone disconnected.
Progress: Exectuded 100%
Result: FAIL
So was am I missing here? I am on version 4.1.83, but there is reference to 1.2.6 and 1.5.2...I assume these numbers are the firmware revision/version? So as I take it I need to "downgrade" from 4.1.83 to 1.26....? I am kinda lost here. Any help in the right direction would be great.
Look here to root your Atrix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016060
1) Where can I verify that I am on 1.2.6 on my Atrix?
2) I ran the gladroot.bat as admin (win7 user) and got:
waiting for root access to kick in...
psneuter failed to execute properly
I extracted gladroot to c:\gladroot
Any thoughts?
Did you try to use Gingerbreak?
This is really easy, i got no problem with that...
Also, I think you need to install motorola usb windows driver to use rsdlite...
No I didnt try gingerbreak.
I do have the Moto USB drivers installed.
Settings>about phone>build number
Will show if you are on 4.1.26
When it comes to the psneuter fail, I had an issue with that too I believe. Try battery pull/restart. Make sure phone is fully charged. Make sure to right click and run it as admin. Other then that, I don't know what else to suggest.
Edit: if you have any system apps frozen with titanium backup, try unfreezing them and also make sure you have the home motoblur launcher unfrozen if you are flashing an sbf.

So what does this really mean? I used gingerbreak after superoneclick hung on psneuter. Phone rebooted after gingerbreak, but superuser app was nowhwere to be seen. I got cold feet and did a factory reset thinking this was all I needed to undo what gingerbreak (and superioneclick?) did. EasyTether now hangs when disabling to I think something is broken.
using gingerbreak to root is real simple I can't post a URL, but briefmobile has instructions on how to do so using gingerbreak. briefmobile.com/motorola-atrix-4g-root
Gingerbreak and Gladroot are equally good. Some don't like Gingerbreak as it can wipe internal sdcard.

[Q] Help needed to regain root after flashing JB OTA

I was rooted on official 4.0.4. then I flashed JB official ota on top of rooted 4.0.4. I lost root, but superuser still there.
Please correct me if I am wrong:
To remove su from my phone after flashing the ota I need to re-root?
I have tried the exploit (motofail2go). But am unable to issue a bug report.
I mounted phone as "mtp" + usb debug on.
Ran the bat file
Pressed vol up +power
But the first time i did it the phone vibrated twice ( aas on 4.0.4). Now it vibrates once and the device is unable to root.
Any ideas?
I cant get a bug report to happen
I can only mount the phone as MTP or PTP. have tried both ways .... I remember having a third option on ICS but dont know what happened to it.
I'm having massive problems as well.....nothing I do seems to work....factory reset run as admin swapping the files
Do you keep getting bug2go UID ERROR also??

HOW TO Install CM 10.2 (Android 4.3) for Razr M (xt907)

I am running CM 10.2 by Skrilax - http://skrilax.droid-developers.org/cm10.2nightly/razrqcom/index.php?device=xt907 (Might be fine with the DHacker version also, but this is what I used.
Pretty much everything seems to work including GPS. I do not have Bluetooth anything so I can't speak to that. Some (maybe most) people seem to have difficulty getting it installed, but it can be done. There are a few tricks to it. Here's what worked for me:
I highly recommend using TWRP 2.6.0 as that's what I use and I know it works. Not sure whether other recoveries will function the same or not.
What you need:
1. The most recent version of CM 10.2 from the link above.
2. Gapps Core 4.3 - http://goo.im/devs/BaNkS/GApps 4.3
3. Root for 4.3 - http://download.chainfire.eu/342/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.43.zip
1. Erase everything except the external sdcard. Do it three times. (Don't ask, just do it.)
2. Also Format Data - what the heck, do that 3 times too.
3. Install the CM 10.2 ROM, wipe dalvik and cache again and reboot into the system. DO NOT install anything else at this time for best results.
4. Let the OS boot all the way to the desktop.
5. Unlock the developer options by going into Settings\About Phone and tapping 8 times on Build number. (Only needs done one time, updates do not hide it again.)
6. In Developer options, change Root Access to "Apps and ADB". (Go ahead and set up whatever else you want in Settings.Do not install any apps or updates at this time.)
7. Reboot into Recovery. Install Gapps Core 4.3
8. Clear dalvik and cache and reboot into System. If it hangs on the Motorola logo, get back into Recovery and format data again. (This is why I said don't install apps or updates yet.)
9. Once the phone boots all the way, reboot into Recovery again and install Root using Supersu 1.43.
10. Clear dalvik and cache and reboot into System. If it hangs on the Motorola logo, get back into Recovery and format data again. (This is why I said don't install apps or updates yet.)
11. Once System has booted, you can update SuperSu in the Google Play Store. The first time you open it, it will want to update the binary. It's very important that you choose the option to do it from Recovery. Your phone will reboot into Recovery, update the binary and then boot back into System.
12. Once all this is done, so are you. Restore your apps, allow Google Play to do any updates, and customize the layout to your tastes.
Note: Once you get a successfully installed 10.2 setup, you can dirty flash the nightlies. Always clear dalvik and cache. And always backup your apps before flashing anything if you want to make your life easier.
ENJOY!!!
Going to give it a go with CWM I'll let you know how it goes.
Well I got the rom to work but I could not get it to boot after loading gapps. I tried wiping data but no joy!
Hey, Thanks for the very clear update instructions - I'm now on CM 10.2!
I am not able to successfully root though. SuperSU complains:
"There is no SU binary installed and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!
If you just upgraded to Android 4.3, you need to manualyl re-root - consult the relevant forums for your device!"
I have tried to reflash the SuperSU zip posted here multiple times to no avail...
Thoughts?
EDIT: Solved with http://download.chainfire.eu/345/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.51.zip
Flashed TWRP and I was able to get it up and running having the same issue with root going to try the file above and I'll update again.

can you confirm if rear mic is working when taking videos? this has been the only hangup for me on the 4.2.2 ROMs...
I doubt it, since that functionality is probably kernel related, but still just curious...
thanks!
Ok I noticed that I had somehow installed the wrong TWRP I installed 2.6.0 today and I have so far had good luck phone is up and running and seems to be stable. At first I had some issues with a few apps throwing errors during the mass install when I sync'ed with Google but a manual download after and they installed just fine. Also the new camera app called focal has some issues for me it opened and took pics but images in gallery are blank. However the stock camera app seems to working fine at least for stills I have not tried video yet.
I've got this all working too, including root. But I've been noticing about a second delay when pressing power to unlock the phone. Sometimes it delays so long that I press power again. So when the phone does wake up, the screen goes off again from my double press of impatience. I'm running the 0907 nighlty

Scrolling and everything is kind of choppy, I mean it is definitely livable, but still choppy.
netizenmt,
Thx a lot for your help. I`m now on cm10.2, too.
But there seemed to be some bugs.
1.I cannot install any apps from Google Play Store, or it hangs on the MOTO logo after reboot.
2.I can take calls, but cannot reach the 3G network.
P.S.When I try to use QPST to configure the phone, the QPST tells Serious error encountered, write to phone aborted.
I've installed CM10.2 two weeks ago and everything is working great! The first time I flashed it I got stuck at the CM boot animation... After ten minutes spent watching it I forced it to reboot: stuck again. At this point I booted back to recovery, followed thoroughly netizenmt instructions (wipe three times, really!!!), installed CM10.2, Installed gapps, installed supersu v1.43 and so on (follow all the steps netizenmt told us!)... Everithing worked fine then. At this point I changed build.props to make the phone works in GSM mode.

If you go to settings/developer options and scroll down to HW overlays. Check the box to disable HW overlays. That should help with the tearing/chopping.
Also, maps FC all over the place as soon as you're using GPS.

I installed the update while rooted and now my phone is power cycling and I can't get it to stop. My fault for not unrooting, I know, but if anyone has insight on how to fix this, it'd be appreciated.
Well I unrooted by fxz save data then installed the pwnmymoto apk took the update and got root back all is normal but I can't access touchless control it wont allow me to check the box. google search works but not touchless control. Can we fxz back with this update or will it brick our phone.
Ok I unistalled and then updated the app but now I get to the training screen but it doesn't activate it's like it can't hear me.

You have to update it from the play store. I had that problem before the update. Could you tell me the exact process you used to root the update? I'm about to try and upgrade, but can't survive without root lol

I did an fxz save data with house of moto which restores to stock but keeps data. Then I re-installed pwnmymoto but did not run it. rebooted to recovery and installed the update from my sdcard. everything went fine but no touchless controls I installed the update and still it would not let me past the training screen. So I said **** it and installed the stock recovery did a factory reset and now I am good I will just juse the new root method.
If you use my method above when you reboot after the update pwnmymoto will automatically run and install root it cycles 3 times so don't worry you are not in a bootloop with it shutting on and off.
The adb root method? By jcase? I'm a little hesitant to use that one. Since I have no prior adb experience

PwnMyMoto was an apk you download http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2444954
Super super easy to do.
Glad to hear someone was able to use this as a new ota root method. But I haven't heard of many others doing this. It's still a little early to hear all the news.

Make sure you have a TWRP backup before installing!
This update can cause issues on rooted phones!
Moved the downloaded file to /cache. Fastbooted the stock recovery and temp un-rooted. Every time I try and update though, it tells me that my device is up to date.
Thoughts?

Can anyone confirm if SafeStrap is working with the updated build? After the new root exploit, that is.

Brilliant! Booted to system version 12.15.15. So...followed these directions to maintain root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2466191
To apply the "OTA" I booted to stock recovery and updated from SD. This failed, but booted to 12.15.15.
Then in the above directions, used fastboot to install the new baseband from the modem drivers from another thread in this forum.
profit!!!!

Just to help anyone out I am part of the soak test. If you try to update by hiding root and then flashing stock recover you will get error from trying to install from stock recovery or if you where able to do an ota it will fail. It will show afterwards that you are on the version but you are lacking some things. Anyways The way That I got everything to work without a single error including the baseband coming from the ota .
used fastboot to flash recovery back to stock recover . Flashed stock system to system in fastboot. After that then I installed that I backed up after download from verizon through stock recovery from sd card. after I came back online. I used adb and the RockMyMoto Root and walla everything good to go.
Hope this info helps some !!
I've downloaded it and placed it in cache but my phone still says it's up to date? Any thoughts?

Is there a boot-loader unlock option for XT1080Mto flash TWRP? Where is TWRP for XT1080M?
I installed it in reocovery. It did say that it was aborted and that some files did not update however after rebooting it says Android is upgrading Optimizing apps xxx of 131.
Did it update or not?

Interesting... How do you determine the you are missing stuff? How did you flash the stock system?
Things seem to be running fine through my method, but the update did fail and I certainly haven't tried everything.

It appears at least some things were updated. When I rebooted, I got the "moto camera" update from the market and when I check build number it is the 15.15.15 update so it looks like that went through. I'm just curious as to what "failed" and what made it through.
For those that failed halfway through, you most likely don't have the new baseband (95). You'll be unable to take future updates until you get everything squared away.

Awesome. thanks!
for those who are like me and haven't felt the need to root their phone or use a custom recovery, the process below worked to update an unlocked, un-rooted, stock AT&T moto x. this is probably available elswhere on the forms too.
- copy the zip into "download" on the internal storage
- boot into bootloader by holding volume down and power together
- at the bootloader screen, use volume down and scroll to "recovery", then press volume up to select it
- in recovery mode you will see "no command". hold volume up and press power to show the recovery menu
- use volume down to go to "apply update from sdcard" then press power to enter
- you should be at "choose a package to install", use the volume buttons to highlight "download/" and press power
- use the volume buttons to highlight the zip and press power
the update will start. it took about 5 minutes on my device. when it finishes, use volume keys to select "restart system" and press power. device will restart and you're done.
for unlocked bootloader we'd have to delete superuser to install this, correct?

No, you don't need to uninstall superuser. If you use xposed, make sure you uninstall the framework (no need to uninstall the modules).

I tied to flash via recovery, but the verification check didn't complete. the email.apk didn't match. I removed it when I updated to 4.4.
I flashed down to 4.2.2 from 4.4 and rerunning slap my moto because I am rooted, but no su binary. lol
For those who had issues taking the OTA. You have 2 options that I see.
Removing the verification lines from the updater script. Don't know if that will work or what it will do.
or
Reflashing to 4.2.2 via RSD Lite. The write protection is still 0. using slapmymoto again and updating via OTA to 4.4. You will lose all data. I used to titanium back up and stored my stuff to the my box drive.
I am installing 4.4.2 via recovery from the OTA i downloaded this morning and I don't have that stupid email.apk issue. The system update says i am up to date so I had to do this way.

Excuse my not knowing, but I just came to the forums here to peek around and see about this, since I'm on AT&T. If I uninstall the framework and take the update, what do I have to do to enable xposed after the update? Do I have to reinstall the framework every reboot?

Redownload the framework install app. Is what I did after I eventually got it to update to 4.4.2 lol

Additionally, you also want to ensure that your /system is not write protected. If your bootloader is not unlocked, /system partition will most likely be write protected, so XPosed will not work until you do a soft-reboot (from the installer app) every time you restart your phone.
I just figured that out hahaha
