Hello XDA,
I have recently installed Windows 8 pro x64 and loving it so far But......
I have a Hp Pavillion with Amd Radeon Hd 6470M. Under 'Device Manager' it is indicated as 7400M with that little 'caution symbol'.
I have tried to update the drivers via the catalyst Program 'v12' for windows 8, but if I try to install it says "catalyst cannot download drivers because of incompatible software bla bla bla. I got another setup from hp.de and I managed to proceed with the installation. During installation the screen flickers a lot 'normal I presume' but after restarting I get a blank screen, lots of flickering and the fun going nuts. I managed to get the catalyst software running through 'run' and uninstalled the newly installed drivers, back to normal!!
Until now the 'caution' symbol is persistent.
Does any one know where to get 3rd party drivers or if you have a solution it will be highly appreciated!!

No third party drivers mate... I had the same problem... My advice is to dual boot your lappy.. I have a DV6 pavilion... Also do not install catalyst manager software... The only thing you can do right now is to update the driver using device manager...
i have a dv7 i tried everything except the obvious and it worked. I downloaded my drivers from hp's support site. Changed the compatability to windows 7 and installed as admin worked great all back to normal.
On my dv6 3006tx the default Windows 7 drivers work well - if you can force the installation of them.
Look for a swsetup folder on your C:\ root. There may be correct drivers within there.
If not, manually download the correct driver's from HP's site. Do NOT use an automatic driver detector. Run the installer, and everything will extract to C:\AMD or something. Then you must install the driver files directly through Device Manager. Right click, update driver software. Try both options. Also try the 'have disk' sub-option, and navigate to the .inf files you find in the directory.
Unfortunately, it's mostly trial and error. The drivers probably will work - but AMD just won't let you install them! If only there were a way to bypass every single OS version check they make...
Also try the generic Windows 8 GPU drivers from AMD's site. You probably won't get switchable graphics, though.

You're welcome.
im also have Hp Pavilion but Amd Radeon 6480G and this drivers works work me good

Hello all I'ave been trying to root my epic 4g for the last couple of days now without any success. I narrowed the problem down to not getting the USB drivers install. I am running windows7 32bit and have downloaded the same drivers from links on this site and also from samsung's site directly. The file that I downloaded comes as a "windows installer package type" after its unzipped so it installs automatically upon opening.
After the attempt install I get the following message:
Device driver software was not successfully installed
Coprocessor X No driver found
Base System Device X No driver found
Base System Device X No driver found
Can someone please help on this issue. I have searched the forums without any success and I refuse to believe that I'm the only one with this problem..
reinstall the .exe file, but right click and run as administrator. when you plug your phone in, uninstall the drivers through the device manager to make it "search" for updated drivers. worse comes to worse, instead of "automatically search for drivers" in the device manager, manually choose where the drivers are and navigate to the program (usually samsung something or another) and tell it to search.
make sure you have any other samsung driver or program uninstalled. some people have been having trouble with this.
This is the problem because this file is a windows installer package type after unzipping if I right click on the program my only option is to install, repair or uninstall. I'm not getting an option to run as administrator or am I even getting to see any files much less an EXE file.
Is there any way I can change the file type from the Windows Installer Package (.msi)?? And what should I change it to so it would act a little more friendly.
I would install pda net which is bundled with the app, plus you get a decent tethering app.

That did it.
Thanks alot. Now I can get some sleep.
You guys are great...
Goodnight.
I personally would like to know of any foolproof way of installing drivers on windows 7... I scripted an all in one root and recovery program, and by far the biggest issue is failed drivers in windows 7... I've been avoiding installing window 7 on my bootcamp partition, but I may have to just so I can experience the same hell as everyone else.
Even if Odin3 is Windows only, at least drivers aren't an issue on my Mac.

You can install regular drivers by holding F8 at windows boot and disabling "driver signature" and then installing the drivers.
You can also permenantly dissable "driver signature" just google it,i forgot how to do it,its in gpedit.msc somewhere,i think.

Thanks for the response, I'll look into it...
Does that mean to install 32 bit drivers even on 64 bit windows?
Just trying to clarify...
Once I find a solution that works reliably, I want to put it in my original posts so that others can benefit from it.

not to beat a dead horse or anything....but .msi's shouldnt need to be unzipped, they should be executable that will bring up windows installer...maybe im missing something but glad you got it worked out!
Hi all,
I just installed a fresh copy of win7 ultimate on my HTC shift and installed all drivers because the old install was getting sluggish. Everything works except for two things: interpolated high resolution gives a blue screen crash when aero is active (no transparency) and the windows basic theme is UGLY. And the second problem: after I install like 85 windows updates shag control center crashes and have to restore a system recovery point. Do you know what update causes this so i can hide it and install the rest?
Many thanks,
Pelle

Which drivers did you use? I hope you are not using the Windows Vista drivers. Download the Shift Windows 7 drivers from this link http://azsharing.com/yvex8pwmz01j/SHIFT.zip.html. Install the Windows 7 drivers discussed in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=590009. The sequence of installing them is precise including those that you need to install in Vista Compatibility mode and with Admin Privilleges. As the OP stated some of the drivers will be installed through Windows update but check which ones. Follow the recomendations in that thread and all will work like a charm...
I believe your Shag Control problems and all display problems are related to the drivers and not Windows update. Mine is on automatic updates and I have not excluded any updates at all save for the Language Pack that I do not need....
Re-install the drivers and lets see what happens after that. By the way DO NOT ENABLE AERO BEFORE INSTALLING THE GRAPHICS DRIVERS otherwise you get BSOD....... That advice is shown as Important in the thread mentioned above. Enable aero theme as the last thing you do with all drivers installed to avoid any problems.
I hope you get sorted and enjoy your Shift with Windows 7......
Edit>>>> There is a way to disable Aero when facing your current BSOd situation through Screen Resolution Settings but I dont remember the precise steps. I can retrace the steps on my Shift once I get to it after work and see whether that will help you. But let me know whether re-installing the drivers will have sorted you out>>>>>
Hello,
I used the driver sequence at gadgetmix (sorry, i can't post links yet) because it worked fine a year ago and the drivers from the HTC website in vista compatibility mode and run as administrator.
With reinstalling do you mean that I have to uninstall the old driver and install the new one or can i just install the new driver over the older one?
Thanks
Pelle
EDIT: had aero off the entire installation

Best is to uninstall and then install afresh using Windows 7 drivers..... Perhaps even check box to delete the old driver as well. If Aero was off during installation you dont have many problems. Aero on during 7 upgrade especially before graphics driver update causes Bsod or boot loop.
You should be ok when you install the windows 7 drivers. But the sequence of driver installations is important.... All the best
Have been fiddeling with the drivers for a while now and given up. just started Windows 7 setup again. After that i will use the windows 7! drivers and hope for the best.

EDIT: windows just installed. Turning off Aero and starting drivers... Fingers crossed
Drivers just finised and now the sond doesn't work
Tried rolling back/ updating driver, reinstalling driver muting unmuting in windows and shift control center but no luck...
And when I press the resolution changer I have to reboot to switch resolution.
shift control center has to be selected from start menu to start
This is a lot worse than when i did it using the tutorial at gadgetmix
Any idea how to fix this?

Sorry to hear about the problems you are facing. I am surprised coz I did the Windows 7 installation just a few weeks ago after reviving my dead Shift and everything is working perfectly for me. The only thing I havent fully sorted out is Finger print thing but I know I only need an hour or 2 with it and all will be well.
Incidentally did you do a clean install of 7 or you upgraded Vista?
Since you have just done a fresh install and you dont stand to lose much I would advise that you re-install Vista (F3) which will install all the drivers then Upgrade Windows 7 from the freshly re-installed Vista. You can then install drivers for any device that will show not to be installed after 7 upgrade.... Of course following the sequence and allowing Windows Update to take care of the rest.

The problem is that i once had to replace my HDD because some idiot dropped my shift and for some reason the accelerometer didn't kick in and trashed my hard drive. So pressing F3 won't do anything. Are there any other solutions?
DID IT! It was in my windows 7 install disk. Downloaded and burnt one (it should be legal because I have paid for it) installed, installed drivers an BOOM! everything works! aero, HiRes in aero sound, its nice and responsive battery life on power saver 2H and 45 minutes, havn't tested modem yet as my sim card is in my smartphone but will do that. Thanks a lot for all of your help! I will be hanin round here to help others. I AM SO HAPPY EVERYTHING IS FINE WITH MY LOVELY SHIFT! Updates Sucseeded and everything works perfect!
Only one more question: is it safe to install sp1? Or will that give problems with some of the drivers.

Glad you finally managed to get your Shift up to speed. I always felt that your peculiar issue boiled down to bad install which is confirmed by the first software you used. What type of disk did you use for the Hdd replacement - Hdd or SSd and for what capacity. Been thinking of upgrading but Ssd costs are still up there in teh skies and might not justify upgrading for the ageing Shift....
You can update to Service Pack 1 no problem. I have it and no issues at all.

I Bought the exact same drive on ebay for $30 or so. I solved the hard drive light staying on by just running CHKDSK but now the same programs just crash...
It now happens when trying to do a system score, when changing my network to public and when uninstalling a program using control panel. The rest all works fine.

Ok so here is my situation. I have a HP Touchsmart 520-1030 and I am wanting to use windows 8 with the touchscreen. That being said it appears that on both the Developer and Consumer release that the driver for it does not work well with Windows 8 even though it works fine on Windows 7 (I have it dual booted on seperate partitions).
So here is a description of what I have attempted so far.
Downloaded the Driver package from HP's Website and ran. Wouldnt install as gave OS version error.
So I ran in compatibility mode Windows 7 with admin permissions (also taken ownership). I get the same error about the OS version.
I then went to NextWindow's website and downloaded the original (older) drivers from there. It says its installed but does not work (device manager showing touchscreen with a ! on it.)
I then tried to update the driver in DM and search gives an error.
I then browsed to the installation folder of the drivers and it states cant find driver.
I then went back and compared it with windows 7 drivers and see the "touchscreen" driver is NextWindow Voltron Touchscreen. I then compared the Hardware IDs and sure enough they are the same ID's (I believe).
I then used a universal extractor and extracked the package for HP and NextWindow and attempted to manually update the driver through DM. It updates but I get an error with the HP packages (code:10 Device will not start) It shows correctly now but has ! next to the name
I rolled it back and updated with the NextWindow Drivers the same way. It installed successfully but when attempting to use the touchscreen no response. (also name is different NextWindow Multi-Touch Device)
so I rolled back and attemped to update manually without the extracted packages (using Windows Default ID's it has) I see one that states NextWindow and it seems to have the same information as the packages. I get the same errors.
So natrually now I see it seems to be the NextWindow Drivers are what is causing the problem. In doing research (reports on multiple forums) it appears that many all-in-one or overlaid monitor is having the same issue with the NextWindow Drivers. Now that being said I have seen what appears to be HP Touchsmart 610's running Windows 8 on youtube (developers build as the are older vids) and doubt that MS would have removed the drivers if they were working.
So the Bounty for me will start at $40 Dollars starting at the time of this post. Every 24 hours that this post remains unsolved I will dock $1 dollars from the total bounty (basically im looking for a quick solution not one after drivers have been redone by the NextWindow already.) If you can solve this its a quick $40 for just basically searching around and seeing something I couldnt figure out. This also may help ALOT of people that have All-in-ones as these drivers are made for multiple PC's with touchscreen devices (8 manufactuers total such as Sony, Lenovo, HP, ect.)
Good Luck (and I prefer to pay via Paypal to make things easy.)
Try locate the driver inside the System32 file on a Windows 7 computer then copy it to the Windows 8 computer, hit Update Driver and point it at the driver you just copied. Basically this is manually installing the driver without the .exe installer HP provided you (and gives the OS error). Almost all Windows 7 drivers work on Windows 8, just the package you use does not.
Right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager > Your Device > Right click it > Properties > Driver > Driver Details.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately that was a no go. Unless im not reading the driver names correctly I have copied them from on drive to the other and attempted to update it that way. Same results.
These were the drivers I copied and moved from System32
drivers\mshidkmdf.sys
drivers\NWTransLibV.sys
drivers\NWVoltron.sys
WdfCoInstaller01009.dll
Thanks for the input though.

Hi I did not figure this out but i'm having the same problem, I found this solution on the microsoft website questions and answers. Pleasr let us know if this works for you. Thanks. I had tried that but the install would not start because it didn't see the OS as valid.
BUT I did get it to work by doing a restore to factory settings (Windows 7) and rerunning the Windows 8 install directly from http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/download and selecting to KEEP the installed apps and user files. On my failed Win8 install attempt I used a Windows 8 ISO file and selected to NOT keep any apps or user files.
Not sure which if the 2 changes made the difference but the touch screen works now in Win 8.
Ok, I tried this out and it does work. I have a hp 520-1031 and now my touch screen works with windows 8
So only way around from what I see is to install windows 7 first then run windows 8 as an update. Though this isn't the solution I was hoping for (as now I have to install windows 7 on a partition first then rerun the install for windows 8) I do thank you for your efforts and the bounty is yours Tragicwayz
you can PM me your information and by the end of next week your payment of $27 will be in your box (this is calculated from the time of your first post of the solution from the time I started the thread)
Thanks again
You are welcome, I have tried many solutions as well but could not get the touch screen working. I hope this helps others with their touchscreen.
I have a TS 7320 and the touchscreen driver for Windows 8 didn't work either. Next I installed Win7 x64 to get it running before upgrading to Win8.
Unfortunately, my device won't install the drivers from de HP website, nor from NextWindow. I looked at the INF file and there is a difference in the device id. My PC shows a 'REV_0008&MI_02' addition to the VENID and DEVID. Altering the INF file manually makes the install work, but the driver fails with error 10 (won't start)…
Any suggestions where to get a working driver for Windows 7 x64?
(I wiped the disk to install Win8, so no recovery disk/partition from HP )
moved to general

Why offer a bounty if you are not going to pay it.
So the solution is to upgrade from Win 7?
sounds more like a work around to me.
If it were me id mod the drivers, within the INF file for the drivers you downloaded it will state which OS versions are excepted. all you have to do is make Win 8s version an excepted version, then point the INF to the win 7 driver its self, usually the driver folder may contain drivers for several versions of windows if it doesn't the its just a case of adding win 8s version number to it.
Modifing the inf file and re-sign it.
Maybe you should follow the steps that I did to install Windows 7 display driver, but do it for the multi-touch driver. Since I can't provide a link, do a web seach for "running-angry-birds-on-the-build-samsung-tablet-with-windows-8-consumer-preview"

Trying to get the multitouch working. Downloaded these drivers from nextwindow http://www.nextwindow.com/nextwindow_support/windriver.html
The driver had no effect on the multitouch, so it's still single touch...
Does someone have a clue how to get multitouch working?
Solution !
Here's what you need to do to get Multitouch working on a HP Touchsmart 520 under Windows 8:
1.) download Intel Graphics Beta driver from downloadcenter.intel.com
2.) install the latest Voltron driver from HP driver base.
This isn't very stable unfortunately (screen freezes from time2time).
But it's the requested solution (4 the time being).
Cheers
No solution !

Cheers

Crap ! I have to correct myself. Due to the bugginess I reinstalled Win8. Now the Touchscreen driver won't install any more, no matter what display driver I use.
WTF ?
I am in need of the proper drivers for the HTC Shift. Everywhere that I have looked, the pages have been taken down. If anyone out there has the correct drivers, please help me out here. I know that there are more people than just me looking for these drivers, it would help a lot. Thanks!
I found a website with HTC Shift drivers. All of the titles are the same. However, I'm not too sure if they are correct or not. I'll give you a link. - http://www.softwarepatch32.net/flshift.htm
Any idea if these do anything?
I found another site with the same type of Drivers. 3 more than the other site though. - http://www.driverplatform.com/file_shift-x9500.html
Nope
Just a bunch of spammy links to install a program called DriverRobot. It did help with some things. However with the Wifi Driver it did not.
I just picked up a HTC Shift X9500 for the kids to play around on (instead of messing with my laptop )
Anyway, Vista sucks obviously, so I want to install Windows XP on this thing. I got windows installed ok. Installed all the drivers. However, here is the issue I'm having. If I DO NOT install the Video drivers, the WiFi adapter works & connects. I install the video drivers & the desktop looks nice, but then the Wifi doesn't work. Just shows as "Unknown Device" in the Device MGR. I can go back into the Device MGR & uninstall the video drivers & restart the system. Then BANG...the wifi is operational again. So, I'm not sure if I got a bad wifi driver or incorrect video drivers. Does ANYONE have all the drivers for this device (Using XP that is..)
It seems to run A LOT faster using XP over Vista. I know the device is old & very outdated, but it would be cool for the kids if I can get it working. There are instructions on this forum to install XP step by step but the links are dead & I can't follow the process. Anyone help??

no driver worked......i try clean install of windows 7 and use my driver cd but,,there is no sound
So you formatted again and did another install of Windows 7, and it still doesn't show up? Is it onboard audio? Check the BIOS to ensure it's enabled.
Google brings up a lot of results, have you tried looking at them? What does Device Manager show?
If it still doesn't work, the sound card/motherboard if onboard might be dead.
I can't count on two hands how many people, including myself had this upgrade problem. Always audio or video.
Firstly, I'd check to see on the notebook/pc manufacturer website if they have Windows 10 drivers for your model. That's the best place to start.
Some older drivers are getting automatically updated through Windows Update. It seems Microsoft has encouraged some key driver updates. E.g. Intel integrated graphics.
Lastly, uninstall the driver, reboot your computer, now, install the driver again under compatibility mode for the version of Windows you have.
For audio, compatibility mode worked. Get this. My notebook came with Windows 7. The Windows 7 driver works (after about 20 attempts) but the Windows 8 driver doesn't. My understanding is that Windows 8 drivers are a bit more compatible with 10 than 7. But the 7 driver actually worked better.
Let us know how you get on.
