Since the Nexus 4 is unlocked and will work on at&t or T-Mobile is it possible to force the phone to roam on T-Mobile with an att Sim? The at&t coverage is spotty where I live and I would love to test the T-Mobile hspa+ and signal strength before possibly switching.

you wouldn't have access to Tmobile's HSPA+ speed if you roam. I know I don't get att's HSPA+ network when I roam from Tmobile to At&T. If you want to try it out, you have to go to a Tmobile store and ask for the phone.

as title says, I got the unlock code from t-mo for the G1, if I roam under at&t would I be able to get on their 3g network? this edge stuff sucks.
I don't think so. T-Mobile and AT&T own different spectrums of 3G, with AT$T's being a little faster. I don't think they are compatible.
No it is impossible two different types of bands.
It is possible to get onto Tmo's 3G network while roaming. I know because last month I had to pay extra on my AT&T bill for forgetting to turn off data roaming.
I have an X1 here in the US and I have T-Mobile as my provider, T-Mobile's 3G network does not work with this phone so I am stuck on edge. Is there anyway to change my phone to think it is roaming and to hop onto AT&T's network?
Unfortunately there is not. I believe that T-Mobile in general will not roam on AT&T in most if not all markets. Though they may have some agreement, it's not something that is always 'enabled.'
You can switch to AT&T however and use their "medianet" package which is just $15/mo for unlimited data. You will have better 3G coverage than on T-Mobile, and in my experience better GSM/EDGE coverage too.
Do you think if I were to write the FTC and the FCC about carriers not fully allowing phones onto their netwrok I would get anywhere?
Does the Note work with any networks 4g? AT&T or T-Mobile maybe?
Does it work with T-Mobile's 3g at least? If so, any idea what is up and download speeds are?

and T-Mobile's 2g Edge network, not 3g or 4g.
And it should work on any other GSM Carrier in the US, just check the frequencies for 3g internet(if its the same as ATT, and if it is, it's most likely a subsidy of ATT anyway)

wow, im glad i asked. looks like i'll have to move to at&t then. No way could I use this phone on just 2g
Alright guys I am switching from Verizon to a prepaid GSM ... I have been with Verizon for a long time and Im wanting to get the N4. Im needing to know what is the best prepaid GSM carrier out there. Where I live ATT has the better coverage over Tmo. So with that said, leaning toward an ATT network branded carrier. Such as straight talk...will I be getting HSPA+ with straight talk or just 3G?

Great! thanks for the reply, so it looks like I'll be getting all the stuff that the big carriers offer (ATT) but be paying less..
Just be aware that without LTE, you will only be getting 21Mbps on AT&T. Tmobile provides 42Mbps where coverage allows. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm a current Verizon customer who will also be switching.
Speaking of HSPA+ im on the website of Straight Talk and it has the option to choose an unlocked sim that runs off 850 and 1900....or i can buy the ATT or Tmo exclusive....Which one should i pick? Im wanting 3G and 4G (hspa+) if possible. And i have been searching online to see what the frequency is for HSPA+ no luck...
They only offer two (well 4 since each comes in two sizes) SIMs.
The T-Mobile version which will work on any unlocked phone or T-Mobile phone and run off T-Mobile Towers; or
AT&T which will work on any unlocked phone or AT&T phone and run on AT&T towers.
If you choice the unlocked device option it will pick the AT&T or T-Mobile SIM based solely on which offers better coverage in your zip code.
I picked AT&T since despite there HSPA+ having half the theoretical throughput of T-Mobile, T-Mobile's availability of HSPA+ in my area is very poor.
The phone determines the frequency that it can run on, not the SIM card, so running an unlocked AT&T phone with a T-Mobile SIM (and vice-versa) can lead you to not get all speeds available on the network. Since the Nexus 4 is compatible with all frequencies your choice is down to who offers the best coverage/speed in your area.

Thank you so much for the reply you given me the answer I was looking for. It seems as though what sim card i want to purchase is the ATT one. Cause ATT in my area is much better than TMO. And if i pick the ATT i will get the 3G and 4G (HSPA+) thanks again.
I just bought an AT&T LG G2 plan on unlocking it for Tmobile/metropcs (they merged in my area) Will I be able to get full connections to everything once I unlock the phone for Tmobile network? I'd hate to realize I wont get any data or get very slow data after spending so much money.
Since MetroPCS uses Tmobiles system in my area but also still use their systems can I choose if I want to use a metropcs or a tmobile sim card? Or are they both on GSM towers and so there would be no difference? 4G for MetroPCS is available in my area but so is Tmobile HSPA+ which is better?

not sure what you're saying. 4G is 2100. but other than that if i leave 4G area i wont have any reception at all?
4G uses different bandwidths. Not all carries use the same... Still the same old "GSM/CDMA" scenario, just a bit more relaxed.
