How to mount sd-ext? - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How do we use sd-ext?
Can someone please help?
I found this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1184767
Any changes from what it says?
Can we use the 'Partition SD card' option from recovery to format to ext4?
If we can't, then what is that option used for?
Can anyone give me a link or write up a guide that explains how sd-ext should work?

1) bacukp data
2) bootmenu--> tools -->file system--> format data end cache in ext4
3)Restore data backup

[Q] A Q about ext4

Hi,
I'm in need of some info. The newer nightlies support ext4. After what I have understood the transfer isn't automatically done so one needs to take a backup of the things I wanna save from the sd card and then enter recovery mode and manually format the sdcard. Is that right?
I would also like to know how big files ext4 supports and if it's possible to mount an ext4 formatted sdcard in a pc?
Cheers

The convertion to ext4 only effects the internal /data partition. The SD is not touched and also shouldn't be touched. Android, for now, cannot handle a SD not formated as FAT32. Windows also cannot read these partitions by default, only with the help of extra tools like Ext2FSD.
To convert your internal /data partition, choose advanced backup in CWM Recovery and select "data", when the backup is finished, exit the recovery via "go back" until you see the bootmenu.
- Select Tools
- Select File System Tools
- Select Format Data and Cache in ext4 !!!The internal /data partition will be erased!!!
- Go back to Stable Recovery
- Restore your "data" backup via advanced restore
- Aaaand done!

Did you read the first posts in TWRP thread?
There clearly say that changing Data partition type it wipes internal storage too. If you didn't do backup of internal storage I don't think you can restore it now.

[G950F] No /data partition in TWRP after flashing oreo update

Hi,
ive just followed the flashable oreo TWRP thread in here to test out Oreo.
My device is S8 G950F
link -> https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...1-10-flashable-oreo-twrp-dump-beta-2-t3703083
After that TWRP didnt recognized my data partition anymore...:crying::crying:
So i installed latest TWRP in Odin again (had 3.1.1 before 3.2.0.0 after) - didnt helped.
Ive done a full restore with odin after i downloaded the firmware via samfirm, this is the exact firmware number ive used:
G950FOXM1AQJ5_CL12401979_QB15459675_REV00_user_low_ship
Still no success
I also tried flashing supersu (2.82) and dm-verifity (v.6.0).
Any ideas?
Is it just the partition table in twrp that needs to be updated or some stupid thing i forgot?
Regards

Ok yeah it'll format whole internal storage.
You need to change the partition type of /data to f2fs and then change it back to ext4. Then two recognize /data again

It's not format.
Go to wipe, advanced wipe, repair or change partitions ,select data, select change partition type, select f2fs slide to continue.
Then do the same with data and change back to ext4.

cache f2fs works on most tpwr but im not able to convert data to f2fs
always error 1
any working f2fs tpwr link?
iwant both data and cache to f2fs
i think is a problem with mkfs.f2fs.. simply if one is able to fix is really appreciate
Here your are, this is what I'm using:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/development/twrp-multirom-vanilla-mod-t3571543
yes, this twrp works but first you must do a backup, copy the backup to your pc or otg drive, convert the data partition to f2fs and after that tick use -rm instead format in options and restore your data backup.

Need help to convert data to f2fs file system.

Hi,
I'm trying convert Data and Cache partition from ext4 to f2fs.
I backup data and restore by TWRP after format data as f2fs.
But when I reboot it get bootloop after show homescreen.
I try other ROM/Kernel support f2fs and format data again but still got bootloop.
Does anyone know this problem?
Thanks
